Ipod freezes when playing song after auto-shutdown

If I pause a song, and then the Ipod auto shuts down, I can load the song back up and I press play and it looks like it's supposed to play but the song never starts. The Ipod hasn't actually crashed b/c I can scroll through all menus and songs, but if you play a song in this situation it just won't start. I have to reset the Ipod and then it's fine, but this is annoying!!! Please advise!!!
Thanks-

Try restoring your iPod... You can also solve the problem by making sure your iPod software is up to date

  • MY IPOD SKIPS WHEN PLAYING SONGS

MY IPOD SKIPS WHEN PLAYING SONGS AND THE SOUND GOES IN AND OUT. PLEASE HELP!!!!!

Is the Battery level is low?
The harddisk might be dying, run the disk diagnostic, the procedure is
    http://www.methodshop.com/gadgets/ipodsupport/diagnosticmode/index.shtml
if it is too technical for you, but it does gives you the condition of your harddisk.
What's happening is that some songs are on bad cluster, which need to be moved or reallocate to good cluster.
To fix it in Windows simply run
    chkdsk drive: /R /F
where drive: is the iPod drive ID. D: or E:
in Mac run Diskutilty -> FirstAid -> repair.
    Good luck!

  • Ipod freezes when playing video through dock

Okay, this is a challenging one. I will be surprised if someone can help me figure this one out, but I will be very grateful!!
Picked up a brand new 60gb 5th generation video ipod the other day. 1.1 update already installed. Everything worked great. Was able to play videos through the AV dock, no problem, and was able to hook it up to the JBL stereo for the ipod, no problem.
Here is where it gets interesting. I took an avi video from my digital camera, and used Quicktime Pro to convert it into a .mov Apple Quicktime movie. I am using Windows XP. I then imported that .mov movie into itunes. Then I right clicked on the file and told itunes to convert it into the ipod format. I then hooked the ipod up to the computer, and the video was transferred to the ipod with no problems.
Then I was able to play the video with no problem on the ipod screen (not hooked up to the AV dock). Then I inserted the ipod into the AV dock that is hooked up to my tv. I played videos this way without a problem, before I loaded this new home made video. When I played the new video, I answered Yes to Tv Out, and right after that point my ipod froze up. No video played at all. Then I had to reset my ipod.
I tried this again several times, with the same result. This was now happening with regular videos that I downloaded from itunes. Also now, when I hooked the ipod up to the JBL stereo, and just tried to play a song, the ipod would freeze up. However, songs and videos play fine when the ipod is not hooked up to a dock.
It seems to me like my home made video somehow corrupted the software drivers for the port on the ipod.
Then to fix the problem, I finally had to do the dreaded RESTORE. I could not update the ipod, because I was already at version 1.1. I tried rolling back to an earlier version, but the updater told me that the update was not compatible with my ipod.
The RESTORE did fix the problem. The ipod was completely back to normal. I could hook it up to the JBL and the AV dock with no problems. Until...yes, I tried playing the home made video again. I just wanted to see if it was a fluke. Same problem came back....arrghhh!
He is another weird observation. I can start the video playing on the ipod, without it hooked up to the dock, and answer Yes to tv out. The video starts playing, then I can insert the ipod into the dock, while it is still playing, and the video plays fine on the tv, through the dock! Until the video finishes. Once the video finishes, the ipod freezes up again.
I wonder if this is a hardware problem, and I should just return my ipod. It seems like a software problem to me. I think if it is my home made video that is corrupting my ipod, I think itunes should be smart enough to not copy something to my ipod that is going to corrupt it.
Ha..ha...wow, sorry that was very long-winded. Anyone have any suggestions?
Dell Dimension 2.8ghz P4   Windows XP   2.25GB of RAM

All I can suggest is to re-encode the video as m4v with QT Pro, there might've been a problem in encoding. Also, try sending this same video (setting TV Out to Yes) with the iPod not plugged into the dock and with an Apple RCA cable, if you have one, hooked up to a TV. If that works, the dock connector might be damaged (unlikely) but it's possible. So once you've re-encoded, see if the dock situation works then. Good luck.

  • IPod freezes when playing from a docking station...Any ideas about a fix?

I have had my current iPod for a couple of years now, and until recently it has worked flawlessly. Over the past couple of months a problem has develoed when I play my iPod from a docking station. When I play the iPod from it's cradle (connected to my HK Soundsticks) or from my JBL Speaker Base, the iPod plays fine for the first few songs. After a few songs, the iPod stops in the middle of song and skips to the next song, then skips three of four times without playing at all and utltimately locks up completely. The problem seems to arise when I am simultaneously playing and charging.
    Any ideas?
    I am using a 40mb, clickwheel, iPod.

  • IPod freezes when played thru 3.5mm jack

When my iPod played on any device through the 3.5mm jack, from portable units to my car system, the iPod plays 1 to 3 songs, then freezes, even when fully charged. It then has to be unplugged, let sit for a while, and then the cycle can start over again. I have not tried it with a unit that works through the power plug (in the bottom) at this point.
The unit is a 30g, series 3 or 4 (not sure), and only has about 12g on it.

Good question but I have to say that I don't know: Never used them. I hate the earbuds so I use headphones from a RIO unit. They worked OK about 4 months ago but I haven't tried them since the problems started. I will do that as soon as the pod gets fully charged.
I also noticed that the battery doesn't seem to be holding a charge as long as it used to. It discharges to almost 50% within minutes of being turned on. I wonder if this has anything to do with the overall problem.

  • Please help - Ipod freezes when playing any video

    Hi
I only got my ipod video a day ago and it wont play any video files. Everytime i go to play a video it freezes and just shows a black screen. I have tried downloading a music video from the itunes store and this wont work either. When i first got it i did play one video, im not sure if this was before i updated the firmware though?
I cannot figure out how to reset the firmware if this is what i need to do?
I would really appreciate some advice.
    Thanks in advance.

I just got my iPod like two months ago and it wouldn't play any video podcast until I downloaded the new iTunes software. Now it plays some video podcasts but not all. I tried to watch some new podcasts I had downloaded from iTunes and it would play some of it then just freeze and make these wierd sounds. I tried again and it totally froze where I couldn't do anything, not even turn it off. It stayed that way until the battery was completely drained then it turned itself off later that night. The next morning I charged it up and it worked fine but I still can't watch those podcasts. Please help, cause this thing is pretty much brand new and for the amount of money I spent on it I don't want it to start giving me problems after only two months.

  • IPod freezes when transferring songs.

    Hi,
My iPod was working perfectly fine before the latest iPod update. Then when I updated my iPod I started having a lot of the same problems as everyone else; the computer not recognizing that the iPod's connected.
Anyways, I managed to somewhat fix the problem by restoring my iPod using the iPod update previous to the latest one. After doing that, I can now connect my iPod to my computer with no problems.
However, as you all know, restoring your iPod erases everything on it. So now I have to put all my music back on. This is where I have problems.
I have tried both the manual and automatic methods of transferring my songs from iTunes to my iPod and no success with either way. What happens is that as soon as I get to anywhere from the 100th to the 150th song in my iTunes library it gets stuck. For example it will say "Updating songs on Dijita's iPod. Copying 107 of 1000: Song Title" and it will stay there and not get any further. Any attempt to stop the process or shutting down iTunes freezes up the system.
If anyone can help me get my music back on my iPod, that would be fantastic.

I was having a very similar problem with my 3rd Gen, 15GB iPod. The iPod would crash and lock up iTunes and I had to just unplug the 'Pod to free up the system.
It turns out it was the FireWire hub I was using that was somehow causing the problem (the hub was also the cause of my iSight not working correctly with Delicious Library but that is another story). If you are using a hub, and you can take it out of the mix I'm guessing your iPod will work correctly.

  • ITunes 11.0.2.26 Freezes when playing songs

    Using Win 7 64 bit SP1.
What I have noticed is, that if left on its own, iTunes 11.0.2.26 seems fine, but once other programs are opened and used... in my case memory/processor intense things like Powerpoint and doing Internet Searches ESPECIALLY for graphics (using Chrome OR IE 10), songs first start to "stutter" and finally iTunes freezes/crashes.
Entering Task Manager I can successfully stop the application/processes/services, but the program obviously does not clear memory, in that it will not restart without rebooting.
I did not have this problem with earlier iterations of iTunes although I did notice some "stuttering" beginning with ver 10.
Any help/suggestions for a solution will be appreciated....I am a technical writer working in Powerpoint for online courses/presentations and music playing is a necessary part of my creative process. I'm about ready to chuck everything "Apple" and try to figure out how to play MY music (bought and paid for) in another fashion.

    First I would try this
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7
Next remove the Apple software using the instruction above and install a previous version. You can Google to find the previous versions

  • 5th gen iPod freezes when play iTunes video, then sad icon, then normal

I tried to watch some Tv shows I downloaded from iTunes and sometimes it would play. Then the next time I select the video it freezes to a black screen. Sometimes I can press "menu" and return it the the main screen. But if I select the video again, it freezes completely on the black screen. I do a "reset" and then I get the sad face icon. I plug it into the computer and it says it is corrupted. If I leave it alone plugged into the computer, it tries to start itself about every 15 mins and the sad face icon appears. If I wait awhile more, it will restart itself, connect to iTunes, and be back to normal. As long as I don't play a video. I don't see any posts with a similar issue. Anyone have a clue?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Right click the video in iTunes and go to convert selection for iPod. Does it convert again (through iTunes)?
If so, update the iPod and see if it works.
    If not, try these...

  • 5G iPod Freezes When Playing Videos

Starting about a month ago, my iPod began to freeze randomly in any video I played. The video would slow down to an eventual stop and a static/scratching sound would occur. This usually ended up in restarting my iPod. The video would continue if I fast forwarded to about 3 minutes later in the movie. Eventually the freezing happened again and again in random places. All the music works fine.
I have formatted and defragmented my iPod many times but to no avail. The same videos still froze but in different places. Is it time for a new iPod or new hard drive? Thanks, Steven.

Photo viewing and Music playback is fine, only Video playback is the problem.

  • Ipod Freezez When Playing Videos

    HI
I have a 5th generation Ipod. everything was fine until one day it started freezing every time i tried to watch a video but i kept trying and then one day it froze and didnt wanna turn back on, I had to restore it like 15 times until it would turn back on again and now it still freezez everytime i wanna watch a video. I tried deleting the videos and putting them back on the ipod but that didnt help. PLEEEEEEEASE someone help me!!!!!!!! i'm going insane!!

The old iPod updater software is how you will fix all of this. Unfortunately, because iTunes 7 thinks that it's better and more up to date, it will prevent you from opening the old version of the software if you still have it on your machine.
So first of all, uninstall iTunes 7.0. (You do not have to remove your library information, just the software.) Restart the computer.
If you still have the old iPod updater, try it and see if it runs. If it does, read on. If not, skip to the next paragraph. So, if it does run, simply hit Restore and you can go back to a previous version of the firmware. I believe that Apple discontinued the firmware page since releasing iTunes 7. Look around some search engines like Google if you really want the latest firmware.
Take out the installation CD that came with your iPod. Run it and it should install the old iPod updater along with iTunes 6.x. iTunes 6.x cannot run since iTunes 7 changed your libary's formatting, but that will not be a problem. Run the Restore process in the old updater and it should be alright for you to start loading your stuff on again without problems.
Since iTunes 7 reformatted your libary listing, iTunes 6 will no longer work. However, you can still use it by reinstalling iTunes 7. Just make sure you do the following.
TO KEEP THE SAME THING FROM HAPPENING AGAIN
iTunes 7 is actually alright. It's the updater part of it that will screw up your iPod.
    - iTunes 7 will tell you that a new iPod software version is available when you open it.
    - Check the "Never Ask Again" box and click Don't Install.
    - When you sync your iPod to your computer, NEVER touch the Version section when you're changing your iPod's settings. Everything else is alright to work with.
    - Everything will work fine as long as you never update the iPod's software via iTunes, at least until the programmers can fix this issue in a later release or patch.

  • Possible explination of why 5g iPods freeze when playing certain podcasts?

From what I know many of you as with myself are having certain problems playing podcasts on your 5.0/5.5g ipod after updating to firmware 1.2 and iTunes 7.x, I have also read many complaints that this problem mainly exists with CNETS Buzz Out Loud (BOL) podcast. My explanation of this is that some podcasts especially longer podcats (i.e. BOL ) are encoded in a low bit-rate format, and the latest iPod firmware (1.2) has a lot of trouble playing these these low bit-rate podcasts. For now my only answer is to wait until apple acknowledges this problem and releases a new firmware update, which will hopefully come sooner than later. Also I have heard that in some cases turning of the EQ will allow some podcasts to play without crashing the iPod.
Well any way good luck to all of you experiencing problems and hopefully apple will resolve them soon!
    Regards--- Justin

I am having the same problem since the upgrade. I don't have a problem with every podcast. I listen to one particular podcast and about 90% of the episodes work. I hope Apple jumps on this problem quickly because it is very frustrating. Please Apple, don't point fingers and accept responsibility for this mistake of yours.

  • Windows 8.1 freezes when playing silverlight after windows updates

    Hi
Silverlight has been working fine for years. Yesterday 36 windows updates were installed (and took more than half an hour to complete).
Following the update if I go to a page in internet explorer with a sliverlight movie the whole operating system freezes and I have to reboot. This is not just Netflix (which still works fine in Chrome). It also happened with a test movie on a MS Silverlight
    site.
I used your fixit wizard to no avail. I also manually uninstalled Silverlight and reinstalled it and cleared all caches, also without success.
I also noticed (you would after having to reboot 7 times) that rebooting takes an awfully long time just to get to the log in screen now, with over 30 seconds looking at a black screen prior to the first blues screen. I seem to remember MS heralding this
    as a quick boot OS
    Kind regards
    Jonathan
    jc

    Following on:
ran sfc,ex /scannow and it checked the system file but did not stop the pc from freezing
I uninstalled Internet Explorer 11 and reinstalled it and tried Silverlight again and the pc froze again.
I think the only sensible solution is to uninstall Internet Explorer 11 and start using chrome from now on.
Wish I could do that with the OS too.
Thanks for all your help guys.

  • My iPod keeps 'freezing' mid play, even after re-booting.

My iPod keeps 'freezing' mid play, even after re-booting.

Do you have a 6G Nano?  If so, this is usually a sign that your headphones are not plugged all the way in.  Make sure you cannot see any silver still showing from the headphone's plug.  It may require a little extra force to get the headphones to become fully inserted.  You should hear a sort of clicking noise indicating that they have been fully seated.
Also check the headphone port from a damage or debris.
