Ipod icon in source list

Can I keep the ipod icon in the itunes source list - so that I can click on it and see details of my ipod library etc? when the ipod isn't connected to my computer? I could do this with my ipod shuffle, but with my nano it disappears when I disconnect.

The list of songs iTunes displays when you click on an iPod shuffle in the source list are those songs iTunes has decided to transfer to the shuffle; you can tell the shuffle's actual contents by ignoring any entries which have a gray dot. This display will be updated when the iPod shuffle is connected to that copy of iTunes, but iTunes won't update it if songs on the shuffle are erased in other ways, such as by restoring it on another computer. The list is drawn from the iTunes records and not from the iPod shuffle's contents.

  • No IPod Nano icon in Source List

Is there a way to get the IPod Nano icon to reappear in the Source List? I'm not sure that it ever was there. I guess it's possible that I may have deleted it. I'm using version 7 of itunes. Thanks!

  • IPod Shows in Source List But I Have no iPod Preference Tab (xPost)

I've got a new iPod nano (3rd Gen, 4GB) that is showing up in my source list (and I've successfully synced music, photos and contacts to it). However, I have no iPod preference tab. Anyone have any ideas?
I couldn't sync my calendar and Apple's FAQ on the subject indicated that I need to change something in the iPod preference tab . . . which would be cool if I had one!

Yes, I have a summary tab for the iPod device . . . what is missing is the iPod tab that is supposed to be under Edit/Preferences. The FAQ I was working with to solve the calendar problem that referenced the tab is: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302269

Chris - thank you so much for trying to help. Your suggestion is actually what I tried the first time. And my calendar doesn't sync or syncs blank (since I've never tried to sync a calendar, I am not sure which). Troubleshooting that is what led me to the other FAQ on syncing a calendar.
I saw a few threads that discussed that it seemed to be a problem with the new iPod software . . . and that the problem may lie with recurring appointments. If thats truly the case, then I'll probably have to quit trying. At least a third of my appointments are recurring ones!

  • Cannot subscribe to podcasts; no podcast icon under source list

Hi, all. I scanned the first couple of pages of threads under this forum and didn't read any threads that helped me. I downloaded my first couple of podcasts ever last week, going directly through npr.org. I wanted to try subscribing through the itunes store, but I can't click on subscribe (I tried several different podcasts). When I double click on the podcast at the bottom, it won't play. I read a bit in the help section on itunes, and I thought it said I should look for a podcast icon under my source list. I don't have such an icon. I just clicked on itunes store and then clicked on podcasts. I double-checked and I do have the most recent itunes. Also, I have wireless internet and I'm always connected to it when my laptop is on.
    Any advice appreciated; thank you!

I'm not sure I totally understand what your problem is, but a couple of things to note...
    1. To get Podcasts to show in your Source list, go to iTunes Preferences, General and put a check next to Podcasts.
    2. Did you download the podcasts from the iTunes Store or from NPR's Web site? Podcasts downloaded from sources other iTunes will usually go into your Music library along with all your music tracks.
Does that help at all? Not sure what you mean when you say: "When I double click on the podcast at the bottom, it won't play." What window are you in? The bottom of what? Please explain further.

  • WHY NO AUDIOBOOK ICON IN SOURCE LIST ???  HELP!

  • Unknown Icon in Source List

There is an unknown icon in the source list in iTunes. The icon is like the music store icon but is blue and says "moron3's MP3 Rocket Tunes". This was never there before and no one else uses iTunes on this computer or even listens to music on this computer. I don’t like this icon being there and I want it gone now. I need help so could some one give me some?

Turn your Shared Music off in iTunes. It is probably picking up someone else's playlist in iTunes who is on the same network as you are. This is common when using wireless networks.

  • Black screen when I look at ipod shuffle in source list

I finally got my computer to recognize my ipod shuffle and got the message, "This ipod shuffle is linked to another itunes music library. Do you want to change the link to this itunes music library and replace all existing songs and playlists on this ipod with those from this library?"
I said yes because I accidentally erased my other library, and it showed me the preferences tab and the content tab. Then I clicked on my library and clicked back, to find this:
    http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c18/BYUIBeauty/blackscreen.jpg
a black screen, with no tabs or anything. Has this happened to anyone else? How do I fix this? I'll be calling applecenter tomorrow, but please if you know how to fix this, I'd greatly appreciate the help.
    Thanks.

okay, I realized the reason for my black ipod shuffle screen was because when I tried to put songs on my shuffle, this error message showed up:
    http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c18/BYUIBeauty/WhenItrytoupdatemyshuffle.jpg
I finally got to the screen where I could click on preferences and restore my shuffle, and I've been trying unsuccessfully to do so over and over again. It freezes up nearly every time I try to do it, taking longer than the average 2-3 minutes to finish. I got it to finish once, then got the error message I think everyone else has been getting, the 1418.
Maybe this means I need to switch back to CD's. bummer.

  • Photos tab is not selectable in the source list iPod nano

    Dear all,
Could you please help me out? I want to import photos on my iPod nano (3rd generation). I want to do this by dragging a folder to the iPod in the sources list in iTunes, but I do not succeed.
The 'photos' tab does not appear when I collapse the 'iPod' in the source list in iTunes. What is wrong?
Thank you for your answer (in advance.)

*I want to do this by dragging a folder to the iPod in the sources list in iTunes, but I do not succeed.*
You can't add photos the same way as you add music, you have to choose the folder in the photos tab.
The 'photos' tab does not appear when I collapse the 'iPod' in the source list in iTunes. What is wrong?
The photos tab isn't in the source list, it's one of the preference tabs that appear in the main window when you click on the iPod icon in the source list.
Here's a simple "How To" on downloading photos from a folder on your hard disk to an iPod:
1 Create a folder on your hard drive to hold the photos you want on your iPod. Call it iPod Photos for example
2 Drag the photos you want from your usual picture folder into the folder you just created
2 Open iTunes, select your iPod in the iTunes Source list.
3 Click the Photos tab and select “Synch photos from.”
4 Choose “Choose Folder” from the pop-up menu and select the iPod photos folder you created.
On a small device like the 2GB Nano I would tend to leave the "Include Full Resolution photos" box unchecked as these will take up a lot of space on the iPod and are only useful if you want to copy photos from one computer to another. iTunes will add "optimised", small TV quality versions of the photos to the iPod for you to view.
iTunes will add "optimised", small TV quality versions of the photos to the iPod for you to view. if you want to include full size photos so you can move them from one computer to another check the "Include Full Resolution photos" box. When you want to change the photos on the iPod you simply add or remove the photos you want from your iPod Photos folder and sync the iPod.

  • Disconnected iPod remains in iTunes sourc list

This happens with both my 4G nano and my 40GB 4G iPods. Sometimes, removing the iPod after sync leaves the iPod in the source list. Doesn't seem to hurt anything, just a bit odd.
    Ideas?

    Anthony,
Only shuffles have this "feature"...since regular iPods can sync against any number of selected playlists, one really doesn't need this capability as it less powerful than what is provided.

  • Keeping iPod in Source list

    Hey all
I know there is an option to keep your iPod in the source list even when it is not actually connected to your Mac. However I'll be buggered if I can find it or remember where it is. Can anyone point me in the right direction because I have looked everywhere I can think of and can't find it! D'oh
    Thanks in advance...

Unfortunately the "Keep This iPod in the Source List" function for the iPod shuffle that was in previous versions of iTunes isn't included in iTunes 7.
You can check out a workaround at this link which may help out for now: Create ready-to-sync playlists for Shuffles in iTunes 7

  • How can I make my Shuffle stay in the Source list with Version 7??

No longer in the IPOD options that I can see????

    Blackstar,
Unfortunately, for reasons unknown, the Keep this iPod in the source list option does not exist in iTunes 7.
So the first thing you will probably want to do is let Apple know your feelings on the matter by submitting the form on this support page .
Done that? Okay then, so now you'll probably want to make the best of the situation by figuring out if there's any kind of workaround to deal with the matter.
The best I can come up with is suggest that you create a playlist dedicated to your iPod shuffle which, for discussion's sake, we can call the Shuffle Playlist.
Once you have created that playlist, when you connect your shuffle to your computer you can drag the Shuffle Playlist into your shuffle.
After disconnecting the shuffle you can get to work on modifying the Shuffle Playlist for your next update.
Note that you will have to manually clear the iPod shuffle's contents before putting a new Shuffle Playlist on it.

  • Ipod icon not in 'source' list

HELP! On accedent...(I didn't think I needed to read the manual because by brother was showing me how to work it) I disconected the iPod when it said 'do not disconnect' just a couple of times. Is that a big deal? Only once has the little ipod icon appeared in the 'source' list. It isn't appearing now. It won't download or upload (or whatever) my other songs that I just put into my library. I tried 'authorizing' and 'deauthorizing'. It worked once, but it won't work now. Apparently, a bunch of people are having trouble with iTunes 5.0. Apple are you out there? What do I do? ANYBODY...PLEASE HELP!!!

Never mind I sort of fixed that. I REregistered my ipod, and now it recognizes my ipod. But it won't let me load on the songs I bought from the music store, only the songs from my cd's. I tried to deauthorize my computer, but I don't think that did anything. That may be because I don't have the main desktop, I have my own seperate desktop. If you know what to do...please tell me!!

  • Keeping Ipod Icon in iTunes source list when Ipod is disconnected

My shuffle icon used to stay in the iTunes source list even when it was disconnected, which was really nice to make changes and then connect the ipod to update all at once, but it has disappeared. I have done some searching and can't find the answer. Any help would be great, thanks!
