IPod mini battery shows empty even after it charged for hours, but works?

i'm new to this, i borrowed someone's iPod mini and when battery ran out i put it to charge to my new macbook, charged for a few hours, lightning bolt showed all the while even if sometimes the indicator showed full and other times it showed that it was charging. now that i've disconnected it, it shows empty but it still works, can anyone help?
I read here http://www.vsa.cape.com/~danh/ipod.htm that this could happen, that the battery indicator could start showing full after 20 minutes... should i start panicking or not?

  • My iPhone4 won't turn on even after being charged for 1 hour and when I plug it into my computer nothing happens

My iPhone4 won't turn on even after being charged for 1 hour and when I plug it into my computer nothing happens. PLEASE HELP

I have a similar (if not the exact same) problem! Here are some more details if they are helpful.
My iPhone 4 died earlier today and will not turn back on. It seemed that the battery died while it was not in use. I attempted to charge it on one charging cord in multiple wall outlets and none worked. Assuming it was a malfunction in the cord, I took my phone home to try charging it there.
Again, I attempted charging it in multiple outlets with a different cord than previously used. None of these seemed to work, though they would flash the Connect to Power screen for a brief moment before returning to a black screen. I assumed that my phone was simply so depleted of battery that it needed a long charge.
I charged it for 30+ minutes without any success, then attempted to charge it through my MacBook instead of through a wall outlet. iTunes did not even recognize that my phone plugged in (and still hasn't). I've attempted charging it for an extended period of time (1+ hour) with no luck. Sometimes when I press the Power button it will flash the Connect to Power screen once more before returning to black.
The Apple logo never appears, nor does any apparent progress on charging. I have attempted holding down the Power and Home buttons simultaneously for 10 - 30 second increments. Still no luck. There is no reason anything should be happening with this phone that I can identify.
I have no warranty and just recently replaced my previous phone which had had similar problems before completely crashing. This is a phone new to me that was previously used but in almost new conditions and factory reset by Apple prior to my purchase.
Does this mean that my phone battery is dead?
Is there anything else I can do??

  • 2007 MacBook Battery exploded on plugin after no charge for 3 months

I have a 2007 MacBook Pro. I plugged it in to charge it for the first time in 3 months and the battery straight-up exploded after 20 minutes. I was told by a miscellaneous apple store employee that "batteries do that". What? Should I have expected an explosion? It warped the outside and everything. It always ran hot and when I took it to the genius bar was told that batteries "run hot". What? Now I feel like I am being given the run around.
Obviously, all warrenties are expired, but after exploring the communities it looks like there are inconsistancies with how this is being handled. Might I have some guidance?
I am a long-time Apple user and I have never heard of this issue before now.

    Might I have some guidance?

Hi, I put my macbook pro (early 2011) for charge yesterday for about 3 hours the macbook was charging but the battery stayed on 3%, after the three hours of charging i took the charger out and the battery remained on 3%, this was very unusual and never happened before, i then left it on charge the whole night thinking this time it would definately be charged fully however when i woke up and went on the macbook the battery was still on 3%, can someone explain why this is happening, it was working fine couple days ago and now it suddenly doesnt.
    Many thanks,

  • My iPhone 4 won't turn on after being charged for hours?!?

My iphone 4 is 3 years old and it has completely died. I left in to charge for 5 hours and it still wouldn't turn on! The sign comes up on the screen to say it's charging but it's not.

Aand if what razmee209 gave you does not help, then make an appointment at the Genius Bar of the nearest Apple Store to have the hardware checked. Could be the battery is failing.

  • Battery level 0% even after full charging

Hi, from last 3 days, whenever I am charging my phone, initially it shows 100% charged but after some time the battery sign turns from white to red and shows 0%. Surprisingly it still run for an entire day with internet ON but confusing about the exact amount of charged level. Please help.

and Eventually the problem got resolved. My initial observation is that the BlackBerry Charger has gone bad. If I use the BB charger the battery has little problems. If I use SS and MS chargers then I don't have any issues. Overall, this phone is really good and this battery problem is the only issue I faced in last 7 months which got rectified without any technical service.

  • Brand new iPod Nano 4gb. Not responding after being charged for a while.

Hi guys. I got a replacement for my Nano today. It is brand new. The guy at the Apple Centre said to fully charge it before use, then fully discharge it. I've had the iPod plugged in for a fair while now, and it doesn't seem to be getting charged.
The problem could lie with the usb cord, it's not in the best condition, but I don't have access to another cord at the moment.
    Any suggestions?

How did you do the reset?  Have you tried plugging it into a different USB port on the Mac?  It could be a faulty lightning connector as some others have reported having.

  • My ipod touch battery shows up empty after being charged

Hi, I have had my Ipod touch generation four for a few months and I have noticed in the past week that the battery doesnt show up charged after being fully charged it just displays empty. When I go into an app or a game the battery shows up green and fully charged. So far I have done a full restore and it didnt change the battery at all. The only thing that I had changed in the past week was I downloaded an album onto my computer then put it into my ipod and downloaded a game. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks

    Have you tried a reset?

I did the restore and it cleared and reset the iPod but after it finished the same error came up. I tried this 3 times. Also it no longer shows up as a drine in My Computer.
if it's relentlessly doing that to you, it's plausible that the message is being caused by a Windows drive letter confusion. (that's consistent with the disappearance for My Computer, too.)
see the following article for troubleshooting information on that possibility:

  • VIP Mailbox Empty even after Notifications show up

    Hello there guys
The mail app has been acting up on me lately. The craziest thing that is happening to me however, is that the VIP mailbox is completely empty even after I have received mail notifications (they also appear on my NC).
I have tried rebuilding the mailbox twice with no success, and I am baffled because I have the exact same VIP mailboxes set up on my phone (that's the magic of iCloud) and it displays properly there.
    Thank you beforehand

    Hi,
In the Messages Menu > Preferences > General section.
Tick the box on the line about "When I Quit, Set my Status to Off Line"
This will stop the IMAgent support app form "listening" to the AIM. Jabber or even Yahoo servers for 'new' messages.
In Messages beta it also seemed to work for the iMessages account but it no longer seems to do this.
It is this "feature" to Listen to the servers that makes this bit the correct function
Whether I am logged into accounts on Messages or not, whether the app is even open or not, I get a loud *ding* and a banner pop-up when someone sends me an IM, text or iMessage.
For the iMessages account you should untick the "Enable this Account" box to be sure.
If SMS Text Forwarding is Enabled then set the iPhone to Do Not Disturb so it too is isolated from the server and then an pairing or Sync to the iPhone number should also be excluded.

Thanks for your answer, but i knew it was a battery problem. How come after a year and a few months, the battery is broken? I heard there might be some probs with the 1 st generation Ipod mini battery. Is that true and will Apple replace it free? even if i'm not on the waranty anymore?

  • My iPod keeps 'freezing' mid play, even after re-booting.

My iPod keeps 'freezing' mid play, even after re-booting.

Do you have a 6G Nano?  If so, this is usually a sign that your headphones are not plugged all the way in.  Make sure you cannot see any silver still showing from the headphone's plug.  It may require a little extra force to get the headphones to become fully inserted.  You should hear a sort of clicking noise indicating that they have been fully seated.
Also check the headphone port from a damage or debris.

  • My ipod mini is showing Three of the icons and wont work.

My ipod mini is showing Three of the icons and wont work. Its showing the uncharged icon when plugged into my computer but when i plug it in to the wall, the apple comes and then swithes to the sad ipod icon. Before it goes back to the apple it shows the icon for the battery with an exclamation piont for like 1/2 a second. It repeats. The ipod has been telling me attempting to copy failed. could not be read from or written to for like 6 months but i just press sync again and it works. today it did that but then another box came up that said could not be read from or written to file or directory has been corrupted. then i restored it and it wouldnt let me press only sync checked items. so i had to drag songs to the ipod to get them on it and i was listening to it and a song stoped at six seconds and i ptressed skip and it didnt change for like 20 min so i reset it and now its doing this. does it need serviced? is it worth it or should i get a new one?

The first thing is to check for corrpt files. So go to my computer and open the iPod drive and post a screen cap of the files. Do a couple of different ones...like one of the main drive page and then one of iPod_Control and one of the iPod_Control Music folder.
Here is what my "dirty" drive looked like:
The circled files (with the exception of # 12) are the ones that I ended up deleting.
and here are the fixed drives
In order to show some of the files, you have to go to the top of the page, press "tools", "folder options", "view" and then "show hidden files and folders".
When you go to the music folder and delete excess files, you don't need to worry about loosing your music because it's all safe on iTunes.
You could also try changing the letter drive, details here: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93499

  • IPod mini not showing up in iTunes

I've hooked up my iPod mini with two different USB ports and iTunes still won't show my mini and update it. It's driving me nuts. It shows up in My Computer but it is not appearing in iTunes.
edit: Oh and the iPod is charging just fine like it normally does.

I have the same issue. When I first connect my mini, it shows like do not disconnect message like usual, but then it pops back to the main menu after about ten seconds.
It shows up in my computer for as long as the do not disconnect message is displayed, but never in iTunes.
It was working fine about five days ago, and nothing has changed as far as I know.
I have tried restoring it and restarting my computer.
