IPod Mini Skips Through Music

I am having a problem with my iPod mini. When I try to play any of the music loaded on it, it simply skips through each song without playing any of it. Any suggestions?
J

I tried that, and it didn't work. In addition, it will not allow me download music from my PC. Both features were working but are not now for some reason.

  • Ipod mini skips over downloaded itunes songs only

after downloading songs from itunes, the ipod mini skips over the songs after playing them 3 or 4 times

Make sure you have the newest version of iTunes and iPod Updater, and do a restore with the Updater and resync the songs via iTunes.
Generally skipping purchased songs are related to out of date software and updating and restoring or reputting them back on seems to help.

  • Ipod mini skipping songs....very upset

my ipod mini is skipping songs. the songs it is skipping are songs from cd's. i have tried restting it and restoring it. i am getting very upset with the whole ipod deal and am ready to throw it out the window. this is not the first problem i've had.

I have tried everything...and my mini still won't play purchased music after 2-3 days.
I have tried to restore to factory settings. I have tried to restore in disc mode. I have de-authorized, and re-authorized itunes. I have rebuilt the itunes library. Nothing seems to work. I'm no ipod specialist, but I think there has to be a software problem that's causing this, not the ipod itself.
I have called tech support and spoken with them, and explained what I am experiencing and what all I have tried and their answer is that I have tried everything and that I should take it to a store and have them run a diagnosis on the unit. I did just that, the guys at the store erased the unit and reinstalled the software. I took it home synched it to my itunes and still 3 days later nothing...
I am guessing that apple cruises through these boards...I would like to challenge them to offer an explaination/solution to this problem. I know that I am not the only one experiencing this. I'm completely frustrated and trying to keep my cool here but I am really loosing patient with this product. So here is my plea...HELP!

  • Help me! ipod mini skipping songs!

i bought songs with the itunes music store and now when i try to play them on my ipod mini it just skips them! has this happened to anyone else???? or can anyone help me???? HELP!!! or is there an email address for itunes that i can email to ask them???? i've had my ipod for a little over a year (or thereabouts) and really dont want to have to replace it already!

    Hello Anna,
Have you any tracks purchased from the iTunes Music Store? Did you authorise the new computer: About iTunes Music Store Authorisation and Deauthorisation you could also have a look here: Troubleshooting songs that skip on iPod
One last thing, when your iPod is connected to iTunes and you try to play it through the computer do you get Grey text when you look at the content and lock symbol at the bottom of the screen? This would mean that your iPod is set to "automatically update songs and playlists". . If you want to access your iPod directly, play it through your iTunes, connect it to a second computer etc. you just need to change the update method to "Manually manage songs and Playlists" in the iPod preferences. • ITunes plays songs but iPod mini skips whole songs

I have an iPod mini with the latest version (1.4) as well as the latest version of iTunes for Windows. I have imported songs into iTunes and they play fine, they also seem to upload to my iPod just fine. But when I go to play these certain songs on my iPod it skips right over them. It shows the song and acts like its about to play but just as it should start playing it skips to the next song. Anyone heard of this?

Hi Josh and welcome to Apple Discussions.
First, make sure you've played at least some of the purchased song in iTunes to authorize it.
If you've played them in iTunes and the still skip, try this. De-authorize the computer in iTunes/Advanced menu, then to re-authorize it. You re-authorize it by playing one of the songs purchased from the iTunes Music Store in iTunes. It should ask you for your Apple ID and password, then the computer will be authorized again. Sync you iPod with iTunes, and those songs should play again.
Another common cause of this is not having the latest version of iTunes. If you don't have the latest, you can get it from here.

  • Ipod Mini skips  -  I've tried everthing

I have an ipod mini. I had the system board replaced in December because the unit wouldn't power up. AFTER the system board replacement, it began skipping, blipping, freezing and whatnot. It seems to work better when hooked up to the computer, but on headphones - it just *****. I have taken it back to Best Buy (where we bought it last July) four times. Their service center sends it back after updating the software and insists there are no other problems. They refuse to believe there is a real problem and have told me to take it up with their corporate office! Unbelieveable! I AM FED UP! Good luck to anyone here getting a refund on their eff'd up ipods.....
If anyone here has any advice, please share it! I're tried updating itunes, updating the ipod software, completeing the 5 "R's", changing the bit rate, redownloading music, etc.

    Hope this helps
    1. Open the disk utility, hope your iPod appears there (left hand side), highlight it
    2. Go to Tab “Partition”, click either “Delete” or “Partition”, if fails, skip this step and go to 3
    3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
    4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
    5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
    6. Open the iPod Updater and click “Restore”
If none of these steps address the issue, your iPod may need to be repaired. Consider setting up a mail-in repair for your iPod http://depot.info.apple.com/ipod/
Or visit your local Apple Retail Store http://www.apple.com/retail/
In case your iPod is no longer covered by the warranty and you want to find a second repairing company, you can try iPodResQ at your own risk http://www.ipodresq.com/index.php

  • IPod mini went through wash and displays folder with exclamation point HELP

My friend has an ipod mini and i guess it went through the wash and now it will turn on but it displays the folder and exclamation point. I tried resetting it with menu and select but it goes right back to the folder after reset. I have already read apples document so please don't post it. My question is do you think it is the logic board or hard drive that needs to be replaced? It seems if it were the logic board then it wouldn't turn on at all. I'm just trying to figure out if it's worth fixing or not. Is there any way i can tell for sure which component is bad? Thanks

  • IPod mini to transfer music

My son got a 5th gen iPod nano and wants to copy only his music from his iPod mini into iTunes on his PC, then from his PC into his new nano. He deleted his music from his PC to avoid duplication of files on transfer, but now he found that he can't copy his music from his mini into iTunes on his computer. Is there any way to get just his music library off his iPod mini into his iTunes on his PC, and then transferred to his nano? The only thing that I can find online is using the mini as a mass storage device and copying my entire music library off my computer which includes many songs that he does not want, or burn a backup CD of my entire music library and then load it onto his PC, again with many songs that he does not want. Is there any way to burn a CD directly off his mini or nano if a direct transfer from mini to PC can't be done? His iTunes version is version 7.

I suggest that your download and install a 3rd party software e.g. YamiPod on the PC, use it to copy the songs from iPod Mini to iTunes then Nano

  • Apple ipod mini scrolling through songs

I recently set up a mini on my itunes for my daughter with her own playlist as described in the site. I had to transfer her songs over to my computer and some of them she got off of the store had to be authorized. BUT...Now her mini scrolls through all of her songs uncontrolled when you try to play them. What is causing this??
    Help!! Thanks

This has happened to me also, and I'm just as clueless! At random times all or just some songs in a playlist/artist/album will suddenly scroll rather than play for now reason. I had it happen within the very same day - one hour it works fine and the next it's scrolling and I haven't done anything to it.
The only good thing is it seems to fix itself after I connect the it to the computer and it updates itself. But still, it's very irritating, almost as much as how Apple Techs don't seem to want to talk about it. I'm guessing they rushed this thing out to market and haven't a clue either as to why it happens.
And I've had other unexplained quirks both with the iPod and with iTunes. I got my mini as a gift, but given how "iPod Tech Support" is a new oxymoron, I doubt if I'll ever buy another one when this craps out.

  • Having difficulty using iPod mini to move music to new computer

I followed the article titled "How to use your iPod to move your music to a new computer" and I am really stuck. I deleted all the music from my iPod (it's all still on iTunes on my old computer" but the music will not transfer to my iPod so that I can transfer it to the new computer. And, the iPod is not being recognized by the new computer.
Additionally, I cannot restore my iPod - there is some sort of error. Not sure what to do from here.

  • Ipod mini skips songs

I have a 4g mini that started rapidly skipping song as soon as itunes updated to v6. I hoped v7 would fix it but not luck. I've tried restoring and it works for a little while but after about a week it starts again. It usually happens with purchased music only.

I just started having this problem too after I updated from version 4 of itunes to version 7 b/c it forced me to in order to purchase an album on the itunes store. I was able to play the entire album for a couple of weeks but now it starts to skip all the songs and even when I try to select it, it will not play (this occurs with other itunes purchased songs as well). Were you able to fix the issue? When I plug my ipod into the computer it says the software is up to date. I tried resetting it twice but it's still skipping. Help, anyone??

  • IPod Mini skips while running

I understand the problem: the hard drive can get jostled while I'm running, and the cache can only hold a certain number of songs. How do I convert songs that are currently at 128 bit rate to a smaller bit rate, like 56? This would allow the Mini to hold more songs in cache and lead to less skipping.

    Chris...
    About MP3 custom import options
The import options in the Importing pane of iTunes preferences give you increased control over the quality of your imported audio files and the amount of disk space the songs use. If you choose MP3 encoding, you can also set the following custom import options by choosing Custom from the Setting pop-up menu:
Stereo Bit Rate: The higher the Mono or Stereo kilobits per second (kbps), the higher the audio quality and the larger the file size. The most common bit rate for stereo MP3 files is 128 kbps. Lower bit rates are more appropriate for sound files containing voice recordings (as opposed to music).
Variable Bit Rate Encoding (VBR): This setting varies the number of bits used to store the music depending on the complexity of the music. This can help keep file size to a minimum.
Sample Rate: Sample rate is the number of times per second that the music waveforms are captured digitally. The higher the sample rate, the higher the quality and the larger the file size. Be sure to choose a sample rate that is no higher than the rate used to originally store the music, or you'll waste space. CD quality, for example, is 44.100 kHz, so choosing a higher rate when you're encoding from a CD is unnecessary. In general, the best choice is Auto, which uses the same rate as the original music.
Channels: Mono files are about half the size of stereo files. Mono is appropriate if you don't have stereo speakers or if your audio files are monaural. If you'll be listening to your MP3 files using your stereo system, choose Stereo or Auto. Auto converts tracks that are already monaural into mono MP3 files, and stereo files into stereo MP3 files.
Stereo Mode: In Normal mode, your MP3 files contain one track for the right stereo channel and one track for the left. In many cases, the two channels contain related information. In Joint Stereo mode, one channel carries the information that's identical on both channels, and the other channel carries the unique information. At bit rates of 128 kbps and below, this can improve the sound quality of your converted audio.
Smart Encoding Adjustments: If you choose this option, iTunes analyzes your encoding settings and music source and changes your settings as needed to maximize the quality of your encoded files.
Filter Frequencies Below 10 Hz: Filtering inaudible frequencies results in smaller, more efficient files without any perceived loss in audio quality.

  • Ipod Mini skipping tracks randomly

Help, my Ipod's gone all weird on me - had it for approx 8 months without a pick of bother, however yesterday its refusing to play certain songs - songs which have played without a hitch before, and automatically jumps or skips to the next listed track. The songs play fine on my PC and were all downloaded from itunes.
    Compaq   Windows XP

You need to play at least a part of songs purchased from the iTMS to authorize them. They won't copy to your iPod until you do this.
How to transfer Purchased Music from iTunes to your iPod
    iTMS Song and Computer Authorization
If you've played & authorized them in iTunes and they still skip, try this. De-authorize the computer in iTunes/Advanced menu, then re-authorize it. You re-authorize it by playing one of the songs purchased from the iTunes Music Store within iTunes. It should ask you for your Apple ID and password, and then the computer will be authorized again. Sync your iPod with iTunes, and those songs should play on the iPod once again.
Another common cause of this is not having the latest version of iTunes.
If you are using the latest version of iTunes (6.0.2), then you need to make sure your iPod software is up to date also. Get the iPod Updater software, install it, run it and update your iPod.
When you have done this, authorize your music in iTunes by playing a few seconds of it within iTunes, re-sync your iPod, and it should transfer by whatever synching method you choose.
