Ipod nano 6th not recognised by win 8

iPod nano 6th not recognises by PC running win 8?

Found this in another thread and it worked for me...
Try this:
Windows 8.1, 64bit
It appears that the 64bit install messed up the device drivers for the Apple mobilie devices connecting as USB.
I tried many things, I may have missed a step below.  But the following is what I believe was the fix - since it worked on a 2nd PC.
Make sure you are using an administrator account.  Any of them on your machine will do for the following
a) Get Windows to restart the drivers:
    - disconnect your USB device and close ITunes
    - connect your USB device
    - if ITunes loads, close it.
b) File explorer:
Open File explorer and browse to
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers
In that folder there should be a set of files named "usbaapl64...."
right click on the one ending in "INF"
Select Install.  It's very quick.
remove the USB device
c) Restart the computer.
When you login again, load ITunes before you attach your USB device.

  • Ipod nano is not recognised on my mac

I have a Mac and an ipod and a nano and have previously sync both -no problem. Now the nano is not recognised by the mac. it show 'do not disconnect' and charges ok but doesn't appear on the source list so i can't restore or sync. I've tried resetting, restarting and downloading latest version of itunes...nothing working

Just had the same problem. Solved it by doing a reset - Turn on the iPod, toggle the hold switch on and off, then press and hold the menu & select buttons simultaneously until the Apple icon appears. (I had to let go after 10+ seconds and press the select button again to make the logo appear.) I hit select once more to clear the logo and get to the main menu, then plugged it in to my computer. Everything's running well again, and the reset did not in any way affect the music files already stored in my iPod.

  • Help - my iPod Nano is not recognised by windows

Hi I have recently bought a new ipod nano (8gb Aluminium case) and it is not recognised by windows. I have run through all of the trouble shooting tips (reseting ipod, reinstalling itunes, getting latest windows updates, even deleting my temp files). I have also tried all USB ports and tested them with a memory stick to make sure that they are working.
I can hear the standard windows sonic (ding-dong) when I plug in the ipod, but there is no indication of it in my computer or itunes.
    Can anyone help me here?

Have you tried putting your iPod into disk mode, then connect it to your computer?

  • IPod nano is not recognised by iTunes

My iPod nano 7th Gen is not being recognised by itunes.  It is connecting to my Mac Book Pro and is charging fine.  My iPad connects fine so am at a bit of a loss.
The icon next to the iTunes store does not appear so there are no on screen instructions for me to follow to registar or sync it.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Sorry I do not have an answer but I am getting exactly the same problem.
I have 3 iPods and am running the latest version of iTunes. 8.0.1.11
2 of them connect without a problem (80Gb Classic and 1Gb shuffle) however I have just got a brand new 8Gb (4th Gen) nano and this will not appear in iTunes.
Problem: Autoplay runs every time with the nano and occasionally I get messages from iTunes that the iPod needs to be formatted for windows or is corrupt and needs restoring. I do this and the iPod restores but then does not appear in the iTunes window after restore.
Windows XP seems to think it is a USB disk and runs Autoplay everytime I connect.
I have tried changing the assigned drive letter in case of conflict andalso disabling autoplay but nothing has helped. I have sent the nano back to apple and it has been returned saying everything is fine.
It should not be this difficult!

At last, Vauxhall have come up with the solution. It seems that the fact the original advertising literature not mentioning the 4G was an error as they are all compatible. Apparently to make the system work it is essential to have the engine running before you make the USB connection. If you do not have the engine running the system becomes confused and therefore shuts down completely, which is what happened to me. If this happens then the only way of rectifying it is to return the car to the dealership and have the system completely re-configured. Obviously I mentioned the fact that this was not explained when I collected the car and they admitted that this should be made clearer for future customers

I am having the same problem and I have tried everything i've read in these discussions. I have the current itunes and ipod software, i've reset it numerous times, put it into disk mode and even tried that usbstor driver thing with no success. I cannot restore it either because updater does not even recognize its connected. Is there another way to restore it or are their any other procedures I don't know about? I have another nano that connects/updates perfectly fine so I don't think its my computer...I also tried it on two computers and every USB port on each. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

  • My ipod nano is not recognised anymore by itunes or windows since Itunes 8!

I've never had any problems before, but since i have downloaded the itunes 8 version my ipod is invisible:
    - in itunes
    - in windows explorer
I 've tried on several computers and it's the same problems, althouth the ipod works perfectly on its own.
The only problem is now that i cannot synchronise it at all!
I've tried to unistall itunes8 and went back to version 7 but the ipod is still not visible...
Please help, I 've already tried all the suggestions from the Apple Support but nothing worked for me.

  • Ipod Nano 4g not recognised by car stereo system

I have recently purchased a new design Vauxhall Astra. One of the extras available was a USB connection which stated on the original advertising leaflet that it was fully Ipod compatible. Upon getting the car home I was eager to try out my Ipod Nano 4th generation. Initially nothing happened when I plugged it in via the USB socket. I then thought to switch on the auxiliary button, this responded with the message "no auxiliary connected". I then thought maybe I should switch on the Ipod. That was when the real trouble started, everything went dead. That was when I decided I had better check the car handbook. It was only then that I discovered the list of compatible Ipods and guess what every one was listed except for the 4g. I disconnected the Ipod, which although initially only showed the Apple logo, I was able to make it work normally. As for the car stereo system everything works fine except for the auxiliary switch, this still remains dead. The car is going back to the dealership on Wednesday for them to try to find out what is wrong, in the meantime is there anyone out there that can shed any light on this problem.

At last, Vauxhall have come up with the solution. It seems that the fact the original advertising literature not mentioning the 4G was an error as they are all compatible. Apparently to make the system work it is essential to have the engine running before you make the USB connection. • IPod Nano Is Not Recognised on Computer

Hello. My iPod has been working fine for a good while, but then it stopped being able to connect to my computer. It can charge on the mains, but the iPod screen does not change to 'please do not disconnect' while it is plugged in and the iPod does not show up in Windows or iTunes. I did upgrade Windows (from XP to Vista) and it worked for a few days, then failed in exactly the same manner. I have tried:
    * 5 Rs
    * Other Computers
    * All of my computer's USB ports
    * Screaming
But none seem to work. Apparently a lot of users have this exact same problem, will Apple speak? This is obviously a fairly common problem, affecting a wide range of hardware both on the iPod and PC side, so one would expect they would have a fix or workaround listed somewhere...
I am willing to do all manner of strange things to my iPod if it will work again, I can post more detailed technical specifications on my computer, etc. *What can I do?*

Hi! I was about to put a hammer through my ipod for similar reason. I could see my ipod in windows but only as a drive. So after many attempts of the 5 R's i did the following and it now works.
Removed all itunes, quicktime, apple and ipod components from computer including in temp files and cookies.
    Reinstalled Ipod/itunes original disk.
Set Ipod to Disk Mode (hold down HOLDMenuSelect until apple appears, then release MENU+SELECT and Press SELECT+PLAY Don't release hold button, until tick appears.)
I updated Itunes to new version. I then plugged the ipod in disk mode in and it updated to the newer version and all good.
This took 5 long days of trying all solutions. Goodluck

  • Why is my ipod nano 7 not recognised in windows 8.1?

My ipod nano isn't recognized in itumes since I upgraded tot windows 8.1.
    Help!

    1. Update iTunes to the latest version. Plug in your iPod. If iTunes still can't recognize it, then in iTunes in the top left corner click help> run diagnostics. On the box that comes up, check the last two things. Click next and it should identify your iPod.
    2. Click on your windows start menu. Type in "services". Click on it and when it pops up, on the bottom of it click on "standard". Now Scroll down to find "Apple Mobile Device" Right click it when you see it and click on "Start". When it has started, close iTunes and replug in your iPod and it should show up.
    3. Check the USB cable
    4. Verify that Apple Mobile Device Support is installed
    5. Restart the Apple Mobile Device Service and verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed.
    6. If you just want to add some photos, songs and movies from computer to your devices, you can use an iTunes alternative to do the job.
    7. Check for third-party software conflicts.

  • My 6th Gen iPod nano is not recognised in iTunes, but is in windows.

Up until this morning my ipod was working fine with iTunes. I updates iTunes this morning and then a message came up stating that iTunes knew there was a device but it couldnt access it or something along those lines. It said if this problem continued I should reinstall iTunes. I evenutally reinstalled iTunes, I also restarted my iPod and stopped and starting the services. I tried to delete the Temp file in Local, but it wouldn't let me. I have tried restarting my laptop, plugging the USB into a different port. Nothing seems to be working.
Any suggestions on how to get it working again?

  • Docking station not controlling iPod Nano 6th gen.

I have an iPod Nano 6th generation. When this is connected to my Teac iTB400 docking tower, not all of the remote functions will work.
Pause / Play and Stop are OK but the Up / Down / Left / Right buttons don't function.
What is the cure for this problem?
    Regards

    Hey, thanks for the reply.
Just about tearing the hair out as nothing seems to work. Followed the apple suggested steps, uninstalled itunes - pc recognises nano as a drive, reformatted drive using defaults, reinstalled itunes plugged in nano - it fires up itunes and looks like it is syncing but does not appear in the toolbar.
Then I used msconfig to restart with all but apple software - this time plugged in nano on different usb port, itunes recognised nano for as long as it took to name the ipod in the first screen then it froze.
Brand new nano - feel like taking a hammer to it - or the pc.
Gonna try another pc today, will keep posting.
    Anybody else had any luck?
    Cheers.
