Ipod nano didnt completely restore

i really need help! see, i restored my nano, but i have a feeling it didn't completely restore, because i tried to connect it back up to itunes after restoring it. but itunes didn't recognize the ipod. so i re-read the restoring process and it turns out that i probably didn't even finish restoring it! i only completed stage 1 of the restoring process, and i most likely skipped stage 2. so i'm wondering if any one has some advice for me??? what should i do if my ipod is only half-restored, as i fear, and it won't even show up on itunes?
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!! I NEED YOUR ADVICE!

Click on control panel/admin tools/computer management/disk management/right click on the iPod to re-assign the drive letter.
Choose something lower down the alphabet, say 'M' or something similar.
The iPod can be confused by any other storage devices assigned a similar drive letter even though they may not connected at the same time.
Then try the restore again.

  • Connecting ipod nano after you "restore" your computer

I had to do a restoration on my computer after I was hit with some virus. Unfortunately I forgot to externally save my music files. Therefore, after the restoration on my computer was complete, all my music files were erased. My questions is this…..If I were to now connect my ipod nano to my computer, would it erased all the files I have on my ipod nano since they were erased on the computer during the restoration? What are my options? Any and all help is appreciated.

If your iPod is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use our iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
The transfer of content from sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
TouchCopy Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync.

  • Nano cannot complete restore...just stuck in perpetual " do not disconnect"

    Hi there,
I have tried to perform a complete restore on my Nano 4G because it stoped charging in my car. It charges fine with the usb cable so I thought a complete restore would return things back to normal. Wrong! After the restore states it is complete, I just get the never ending "do not disconnect". I left it over night, just to be sure. Even though I had a incling that it really shouldn't take that long and sure enough still in "do not disconnect" mode. What should i do? I would really like it to charge in my car again. Please help...

Reset the iPod. (hold down the menu and center button). If that doesn't work, try a restore with the iPod updater.

  • IPod nano won't restore

I recently borrowed a 1st generation nano from a friend when my 30GB video iPod spazzed out. He's on a PC and I'm on a Mac but he told me to feel free to restore it and update it, whatever, because he doesn't use it much anymore. When I first plugged it in to my Mac, it told me to erase and sync, which I tried to do, but it gave me an error. So, I tried to restore it. It downloaded the new iPod software and as soon as if finished downloading, it gave me another error (-48) saying there was a problem with my network. I'm assuming it means my interenet network, right? Well, I've been on three different networks since then, and I get the same message every time. I've seached every where and I have no idea what to do. Help?

    Hi!
Thank you for replying – I did what you suggested but unfortunately it didn’t work After several restarts I managed to get the software to pick up the iPod Nano and I selected ‘restore’ but a few moments after the progress bar appears it suddenly says “can’t mount ipod” and exits. Within My Computer the iPod appears as a ‘Removable Disk’ but I cannot access the drive or format it – though within Hardware Devices’ Windows recognises it as an iPod.
Is there any way I can flash the drive with another piece of software so that the contents are deleted, then try to restore the iPod from scratch as it doesn’t seem to be able to read the drive contents properly?
    Thanks again

  • My iPod nano never completely turns off.....

I will wait until a song ends or I will push pause and then hold down the play button. It turns off. But I will leave it like that for 3 days and I will click play and it will turn right back on like I just turned it off. What I am trying to say is that it is like it is always on standby and it never shows the Apple Logo when turned back on. Is there a setting to this? My brother's iPod nano (1st Gen) and my sister's iPod video 60GB always turns completely off after 12 hours. So after 12 hours on their iPods you click play and the Apple sign shows and then turns on. But mine never does that. Can anyone understand what I am trying to say? Any help?
    Thanks!

"But I will leave it like that for 3 days and I will click play and it will turn right back on like I just turned it off."
Mine is the same. See this about "hibernation".
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60945
Although it says after a period of inactivity of 14 hours or more, when you turn it on again you should see the Apple logo, mine almost always resumes from where it left off unless it's not been used for a long time.
The power is still conserved so I wouldn't worry about it.

  • I had my Ipod nano 7Gen factory restored. Nano touch is working smooth without any song init but after i have any of the songs shifted from itune touch buttons get messed up. They don't work. Help me in over coming this issue

I had my Ipod nano 7th Gen factory restored. Nano touch works smooth without any song in-it but after i have any of the songs shifted from itunes, touch buttons get messed up. They don't work. Help me in over coming this issue.

    Hello Rohantm,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with your iPod nano (7th generation) touch screen.  I recommend the following steps for the issue you described (you can skip the steps you have already tried):
Touch screen does not accept input
Clean the screen with a microfiber polishing cloth.
Do not wear gloves while using the touchscreen. Do not use the touchscreen with wet hands or immediately after applying hand lotion. Moisture affects touchscreen behavior in the same manner as it affects a trackpad.
If you have a protective plastic sheet or film on the touchscreen, try removing it, because it may be preventing the touchscreen from working properly.
The current application may be unresponsive; try resetting iPod by pressing and holding the Sleep/Wake button and the Home buttons simultaneously for a least six seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
Sync with iTunes and restore the iPod.
    Issue not resolved
If the issue is still not resolved, please read this information on servicing your iPod.

  • Ipod Nano won't restore to sync

My brand new Ipod Nano won't sync with my Itunes.  The Itunes software tells me to restore my Nano, The screen it tells me to restore using isn't on my Nano, but I restore to factory settings, and it still won't work.  Gives me a message in Itunes"The iPod "iPod" cannot be restored because it contains files that are in use by another application."  What???  I just plugged it into the computer after opening it in the box from the store?

Make sure the Enable disk use option is NOT ticked from under the iPod's Summary tab in iTunes. If you do have to remove this tick mark, be sure to hit the Apply button in the lower left hand corner of the window in iTunes to update the changes to your device. Then try restoring it again.

  • Ipod Nano problem - always restoring itself

Can anyone please help me? I bought my ipod just under a year ago (2nd Nov) but Apple says its out of warranty.
1st gen ipod nano 4gb, windows XP Pro, itunes (v7.0.1.8) and ipod (v1.3)
When i connect it to iTunes, and transfer music to it, if switches itself off and says 'file cannot be found' or something like that. then when it reconnects to itunes, it has just lost all the music i transfered to it! This has happened about 6 times in the last few weeks.
I have tried all of the following:
    reinstall itunes
    new usb lead
    restore ipod
    update ipod and itunes
    reboot PC
    reboot ipod
    cry lots lol
I am going to be so gutted if my ipod is broken, and I cant work out what else to do.
Please someone help me - also if i have receipt for purchase of ipod, will apple believe it is still in warranty?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
What kind of noise are you getting? If the sounds were a clicking kind of sound:
When clicking and selecting something while on your iPod, it is natural that it sometimes makes some clicking sounds, as it is accessing the hard drive, so it can play a song, for example.
If the clicking sounds seem to be especially rythemic, that isn't good.
The first thing to do is reset your iPod.
Also, see this link; the Five R's may be worth a try:
    The Five R's
If you could describe the noise for us, that would be good.
    I hope this helps.

  • IPod Nano locked on restore screen...

My iPod Nano appeared to be dead but I finally reset it after a couple of weeks by holding the center and menu button down while having it plugged into the wall... Now I cannot get off the screen that says I must restore in all of the different languages... Is there any way humanly possible to get it off that screen so I can get my music?

    I figured it out.

  • HT1339 Ipod Nano stuck in restore cycle

I have 2 Ipod Nanos (Gen 2 and Gen 4) that were working fine until the Itunes 11 updates. Now when I connect them to the up to Itunes it states that they need to be restored. I try to restore but it just cycles back into restore mode and just stays in the loop.  I can take them to a Itunes version that I have not updated (version 10.4) and they restore fine and sync well. Unfortunatly I have to reload the operating system on the machine I have the old version on.
My question is 2 fold- 1- Is there a fix for these older IPODs that will allow them to work with the newer version od ITUNES? and 2- if not, how can I get an older version of Itunes?
Thanks for any help you can give.

  • Ipod nano will not restore on windows or mac

On my ipod I tried to restore it on my mac and that keeps going back and saying that it is corrupted and to try to restore it. I called apple and its out of warranty. They suggested that I try to restore it on windows. That did the same thing by telling me that it must be restore. I put it in disk mode, restarted it and tried to restore it on windows and mac and that did not work. Can anyone help with this problem?

    Now it gets even weirder.
I tried plugging the iPod into a third computer (PC) which belongs to someone else. The computer restores, syncs and loads all of his songs onto her iPod perfectly fine.
The only thing that makes sense is that there's somethng about one or more of her songs that's causing this problem. Is there anyway for me to find out which songs are doing this?

  • IPod nano 4G completely dead? Already?

    Hi,
yesterday I did some running with my new iPod Nano 4G -which a bought a couple of months ago- and the Nike+ sensor. Suddenly, the iPod fell accidentaly on the road and didn't do anything anymore since then! I'm a bit surprised, as this is the first time this iPod fell (I dropped my old iPod 3G countless times in the past and it never stopped working). Isn't there any procedure I can follow to get it working again? My PC doesn't detect the iPod neither anymore..
    Thanks in advance..

Okay, finally managed to get it working. Kinda.
Basically, what happens is that I'm able to do play one song. As soon as the iPod goes idle (i.e. locks, holding the 'play' button to try and go into standby, etc.) it freezes up and nothing else is possible.
If I want to do anything again, I have to reset it with the menu and centre buttons. But then it becomes a case of rinse and repeat the above.

  • Ipod nano screen completely messed up

I've noticed recently that my Ipod nano screen has become totaly messed up, i can only see the top half of it,where it says Music, Photos, etc. and even that is all deteriorated, whilst the bottom almost look's like a barcode. Although i can still listen to music, volume is inacessible.
Could some one please help me on this, i just got this recently by winning it from a local radio station and I dearly love it, help would be appreciated.
PS: this is not something physicly on the screen or the result of a scratched screen, it's the actual inside, where the song information etc. is viewed.

You might want to try this link:

According to the Tech Specs (http://www.apple.com/ipodnano/specs.html) Windows 98 isn't supported - could that be the answer?
