Ipod nano displays apple icon and doesn't work

I bought this nano as a gift (I already have an identical one). There were no problems syncing the content and registering the device, but once it is disconnected from the system, if you navigate to a song on the device and hit "[play", the screen goes black and will only display an apple icon.
I returned the first one thinking it's a hardware issue, but the replacement is doing the exact same thing, leading me to believ it is a setting or software issue. I got the replacement in a completely different Best Buy too, just to try and get one from a different batch. Any ideas what's going on?

Make sure you are using the latest version of iTunes and the Ipod's firmware is up to date.
Make sure the "screen lock" is not set to on. Make sure the hold button at the top of iPod Nano is in the "off" position.

My Mac book pro all of a sudden doesn't have the airplay icon and doesn't work with my Apple TV . Why  ?

The Airplay icon will not display if the OS is unable to locate any Airplay devices.
I would check that both devices are connected to the same network and maybe even power cycle the network devices - eg router etc
Maybe even try to connect both devices to another network like an iPhone personal Hotspot and see if that helps to isolate the problem

  • Nano displays Apple icon on selection of playlists

My Nano displays the Apple icon for a few seconds when I select playlists and then returns to the previous menu. In iTunes the playlist contents are visible, but I can't reach them through the ipod menu. I can traverse all other menu options. Anyone have experience with this?
    Thank you.

Tom - Yes, mostly or only podcasts in fact. And I was mistaken re the menu order. I choose "Music" and then the apple icon appears for a few secs and then I'm back to the main menu. I think I see where you were going with this and just added a new item to an existing playlist... and now I can get to all my playlists and artists.
    Why?
Thanks so much for your help.

  • My ipad is now only showing a black screen with the apple icon and doesn't appear to be charging despite being on the AC adapter all day

My ipad had an icon on it after being on the charger all night that indicated it needed to be plugged into itunes.  I did this, and then it said it was going to do a restore, I confirmed I was ok and then left it on the computer all day and now the best I can do is get the apple icon on a blank screen.  It occassionally changes to show that it has no battery and then goes back to the apple icon.  How can I restore it?  Any other ideas?

    (A) Charge your battery
(B)Try and force iPad into Recovery Mode:
    1. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off, release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
    2. Connect USB cable to computer, leave the other end alone
    3. Press and hold the Home button down and connect the docking end of cable to iPad
    4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect To iTune" screen
    5. Release the Home button
    6. Open iTune
    7. You should see "iTunes has detected an iPad in recovery mode"
    8. Use iTune to restore iPad
Note: You need to be patient and repeat the above many times to recover your iPad

  • 80g video ipod just displays apple logo and makes loud clicking noises

I've had my ipod 80g for a little over two years, with few incidents, and it's about 50 g full. When I most recently connected it to my computer, it started making these loud whirring and clicking noises and the apple logo is all that shows. I know the ipods can't be expected to last more than a few years (or so I'm told) so my question is what to do. Should I take it into the apple store and have the hard drive totally wiped of all my music, should I try some alternative fix (this strange business card opening the ipod technique, for instance?), or is there something else I should try? Is an ipod in this stage even salvagable? Thanks!

i had the same problem. i saw a great video on how to fix it and it worked for me.
the guy who posted it also offers free advice. check it out. good luck.

  • Ipod Nano Error 1417 Tried and won;t work

I've tried looking through the restart method, the disconnect and reconnect method, and nothing works. My Ipod Nano is Ver. 1.0, and the update process does not pop up with a dialogue box, all it does is 'updating' but it's really doing nothing, help?

are you still at an itunes version 7.0.0.70, Chang?
to check, go "help > about itunes" and wait for the version number to scroll up from the bottom of the screen.
if you've still got a 7.0.0.70, first try an upgrade to 7.0.1.8:
    iTunes 7.0.1.8 Installer
if you still get the 1417 when using 7.0.1.8, let's get your iPod Updater logs to the Apple engineers for a look.
    Open this folder:
    C:\Documents and Setings\yourusername\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPod Updater Logs
(You may need to show hidden files in order to see the Application Data folder. Open up My Computer, and in the Tools menu, choose "Folder Options..." Then go to the View tab, and then in the "Advanced settings", select "Show hidden files and folders.")
Send the files inside the iPod Updater logs folder as attachments to this email address.
In the email to Roy, be sure to include the following information:
    - A link to the thread on Apple Discussions where the issue is being discussed
    - The username you are using in the thread
    - The version of iTunes you are using or trying to use
    - A concise description of the issue you are seeing
    - The exact text of the error message you are seeing

  • TS1382 my ipod nano's (4th generation) keyboard doesn't work! but all other things do, SOMEONE CAN HELP ME PLEASE?

my nano 4gen 8gb has a problem, it's keyboard doesn't work!! I have to shake it because of that and my hand is tired of that u.u does someone know how to fix it??

Did you do a restart or a reset?
Do a reset (Hold Sleep/Wake and Home buttons about 10 secs or more till Apple logo appears)
If that didn't help, you have to write to/wait for the developer to update the software.

  • "iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode" restore and doesn't work

I'm trying to put my music on my new iPod and keep getting this error message "iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode. You must restore the iPod before it canb work with iTunes". I click "restor to factory settings" and then the same error message comes up when it's complete. iTunes does recognize my iPod, it just doesn't seem to realize that I've already done what it's telling me to do. Going around and circles and can't get my music on...:( Help, please?
    Thanks!

  • After a power outage, iPod now displays Apple Logo and wont turn off

I had my iPod connected to my PC (not on iTunes or Syncing), and when the power went out I unplugged my iPod from the PC and it now displays the apple logo without backlight, then with backlight. I tried resetting, but it only repeats the pattern.

I'm sorry to hear about your ipod. you could try restoring it.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
will walk you through the 5 rs including restoring your ipod.
I hope you still have all your music on the computer. restoring the ipod deletes every thing off the ipod.

  • IPod Nano shuts down randomly and doesn't restart unless connected

This happened to me two days ago. I was working on a pool listening to a podcast, with the iPod in my pocket. I was wearing black pants and it was very hot, so I'm not sure if it's simply an issue of overheating, but what happened was while I was listening to the podcast the iPod completely shut down. I took it out of my pocket and tried to reset it holding the menu and center buttons, but the iPod wouldn't respond to this. The iPod was completely charged the night before so I'm sure this isn't an issue. I took it home and hooked it up to my computer and it worked fine. But today, it did the same thing, listening to the same podcast (TalkRadar) and wouldn't respond to the menu and center buttons again, but it responded to plugging it in to the computer. Something else happened, too, the iPod would turn on and off randomly even while connected to the computer and I would have to unplug the iPod and re-plug it back in. Does anybody have an idea of what the problem is? I want to know whether or not I should send it in for repair.

If resetting or restoring the ipod does not work, take it to an Apple Store. Let the staff examine it. If you have Apple Care, call them.

  • IPod Nano 5g, the video camera doesn't work.

Everytime i click on the camera the screen goes black and the ipod freezes.
What can i do to fix this problem???

Try a hard reset first.  To do this, press and hold both the Select (Center ) and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.  If still no luck, connect the Nano to your iTunes library and click the Restore button from underneath the Nano's Summary tab.
Otherwise, the issue is likely hardware related, meaning you'll need to have your iPod serviced.

  • My older iPhone which is the 3G or 3S and it's showing an Itune Icon, and doesn't Work. What's wrong with the iPhone 3GS and how to fix it? It was working fine a few days ago

Starting to wonder if the iPhone's been hacked into. The Iphone was working perfectly fine just a short time ago...only 48 hours ago. I never saw a screen on the front of the front of the phone which showed an iTunes Icon at the top of the screen and a cord going down to the bottom of the screen before. I cannot use the phone, get online to get to the internet, take photos of anything.
The phone was working perfectly the day it started working very very strangely and I was able to use the phone, see the time of day, take photos, get online, etc.
How do you fix the phone? I am not going to "restore" the phone & get ALL my info, photos & everything deleted!
Think we need to change the phone number because we also got a strange phone call from a phone number we never saw before!
Need some help. as I'm sure people CAN hack into smartphones.

It's in recovery mode. It's tryijng to tell you to plug it into iTunes and restore it.

I hate to tell you this, but ALL your "info, photos & everything" are already gone.
    You don't have a choice.

  • HT201210 my ipad 1 gets stuck with the apple logo and doesn t work any more. any suggestions how to fix it please? when trying to restore through itunes i keep getting error 1603

I can't restore and make my ipad work. every time i start restoring it it gets stuck and error message (1603) pops on the screen.

    Thanks

    Check USB connections
If there’s an issue with the USB port, cable, dock, or hub, or if the device becomes disconnected during restore, try troubleshooting the USB connection, then troubleshooting your security software.
    Common errors: 13, 14, 1600-1629, 1643-1650, 2000-2009, 4000, 4005, 4013, 4014, 4016, “invalid response”, and being prompted to restore again after a restore completes.
To narrow down the issue, you can also change up your hardware:
    Use another USB cable.
Plug your cable into a different USB port on your computer.
Try a different dock connector (or no dock).
Add (or remove) a USB hub between your device and computer.
Connect your computer directly to your Internet source, with no routers, hubs, or switches.

  • Ipod runs out of battery and doesn't work?

Okay... so I'm leaving for a camp in 2 days for 3 weeks and my iTouch isn't working. It recently ran out of battery. So at a friends house, I charged it into a wall. It now only shows a USB cable/charger pointing at the iTunes label/logo. I am far away from my house (up north) so I obviously can't use my iTunes. What should I do? It's frozen and I can't get to my music, or anything. So I would be bumming if I was at camp for 3 weeks without any music.

When you say, "Forced restart", do you mean holding the Home and Lock button together?  If not, try that.  If so, then sorry, I can't think of anything else.  You might need a trip to an Apple Store/Reseller, or call AppleCare (if you have it).

  • My ipod is displying apple logo and wont start up, hard reset leaves it the same, disc mode works but iTunes doesnt "see" it even if the computer does.

"My ipod is displaying apple logo and wont start up, hard reset leaves it the same, disc mode works but iTunes doesn't "see" it even if the computer does."
It worked two days ago fine, for two years, until I installed this newest iTunes update, then for one day it kept on freezing and going to apple logo screen mode, then today it only goes to that screen and wont start up at all.
I've tried the hold down two buttons hard reset, that doesn't help. I've tried disc mode... but iTunes doesn't "see" it even if the computer does.
This is a pristine ipod, never exposed to adverse conditions, never dropped, never wet, and it worked perfectly two days ago.
Can I factory reset it somehow? (considering itunes can't "see" it)
[Ipod classic 160gb less than two years old.]

Looks like I might have found the solution on a youtube comment:
    R.O:
"Plug into you laptop first, whichever set up you use that has iTunes, i know it won't read it, don't even open iTunes as of yet. Do the typical reboot "Menu +Center button at the same time" and hold it, DONT LET IT GO like we were told, when the apple pops up.. KEEP HOLDING IT it will make a new ding sound I've never heard before. and since its hooked to you laptop already an error message pops up and says apple will need to download something to repair your iPod. I when u see that that when i let reboot buttons go. hit ok on the laptop something downloads for like 20 seconds then the iTunes icon hops around when you open it it has a screen with an iPod classic on it and says "Software version blah blah, iTunes will check for an update on such n such date" AND FINALLY there's a "Restore" button. click that and you will be back to square one with your iPod. Renaming , adding all the music on it, but it will work again, finally. "
I had to do it twice, because my mac froze the first time, but its recognized it now and is downloading the software as we speak...
Now I've clicked the restore button and it's restoring... I'll post again if its a success, otherwise assume failure.
