IPod Nano error message

Error message: The registry settings used by the iTunes drivers for importing and burning CD's and DVD's are missing. This can happen as a result of installing other CD burning software (NOTE: I HAVE NOT INSTALLED ANY OTHER CD BURNING SOFTWARE). Please reinstall iTunes.
I need specific instructions re: how to reinstall iTunes.
Dell Dimension 8300   Windows XP

with that one, let's first try a "reboot and repair".
Reboot the PC (very important), and then do a repair install of iTunes. in your Add/Remove Programs Control Panel, select iTunes, click "Change" and then click "Repair".
if no joy with the reboot and repair, check for a device filter conflict in your Registry. see:

  • IPod Nano Error Message (-48)

I've just got my NEW iPod Nano (Red 4GB) out of the box and when I connected it to iTunes I keep getting the Error Message "Unable to update iPod Bob Error Message (-48)."
Despite the (-48) Error Message the iPod does seemingly update Songs/Photos etc.
I have got a 60GB Video iPod and a new Black iPod Nano (8GB) and have no problems with either of them.
Does anyone know what Error (-48) is????
    Thank you in advance!
    Bob

I have just got back from the Regent Street Apple Store - the trip took 5 hours (I live way outside of London) and cost £35 in fares (thanks Apple!)
I met with a guy from the iPod Genius Bar - and there is indeed a "problem" with Error (-48) which Apple are fully aware of. I took my iPod Nano (4GB Red) which DOES have this problem and my iPod Nano (8GB Black) which does not PLUS my iBook so the guys at Apple could see for themselves the problem I am having.
It seems they are aware of the problem - but could offer NO solution at this time and Apple are definaitely working it! They took data dumps of my iTunes / Mac Configuration etc. and details of both Black and Red iPods (serial numbers etc.)
They were very helpful - and advised me to keep the Red 4GB and sit tight until the Update/Patch to solve the problem is available from Apple.
I was one of MANY turning up at the Genius Bar that day with the SAME problem!
So - there are no quick / sure solutions to this one - I guess we have to wait for Apple to release the fix.

  • IPod Nano: Error Message "The USB device has malfunctioned and Windows does not recognise it"

Hi everyone, I just received 2 brand new iPod Nanos for my kids for Christmas, thought I'd be smart and sync them both now before wrapping them so I don't have to be messing around with them on the day. One synced without a problem, then using the same cable, same computer, same USB port, the 2nd one came up with "The USB device has malfunctioned and Windows does not recognise it" I've tried restarting my computer, unplugging and reinserting the USB. Is there anthing else I can try before returning it? Thanking you for any help.

I have solved my problem, I ended up ringing Apple and got an awesome lady who told me to reset it by pressing the sleep button and menu button together for about 10 seconds and once it actually turned on for the first time the computer then recognised it, so it's all good, :-) Thank you lovely lady!

  • TS3218 iPod nano: Error message saying that iPod 'could not be identified properly'

If I remove itunes and reinstall it will I lose all of my purchased downloads

I spend several hours removing and reinstalling iTunes, resetting my iPod etc.  This worked for me.
    1- Open Control Panel
    2- Go to Add/Remove Programs
    3- Remove Apple Software Updates
    4- Remove Apple Mobile Devices
    5- Remove iTunes
    6 - Re-install iTunes
I found that a few days earlier there was an update on Apple Software Updates and Apple Mobile Device which may have caused some sort of conflict.  After I re-installed iTunes all of the above programs were re-installed, my music was there and everything worked fine.

    Hi Bander Bunny!
I have a couple of articles that should be able to help you troubleshoot this issue a little further. You may want to try uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes first. This has to be done in a specific manner, and this article can help you do that:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1923
Another option is that you may want to try syncing your iPod nano manually. Here's is an article that pertains to manually managing the content of your iPod nano:

It's also possible that this issue resides with your iPod nano. Here is a website that will help you troubleshoot the iPod nano:

  • Every time I plug in my ipod an error message 42404

Every time I plug in my ipod an error message 42404. I have un and re installed itunes over 5 time and I have re set the factory setting on my ipod so now I dont have any music on it at all. Help please.

    Hello Rach 27,
Thank you for providing the details of the issue you are experiencing when trying to sync your iPod nano.  I recommend following the link in step 2 below for Error 42404:
    "Error 42023" through "Error 42408"
These alerts might occur when trying to authorize iTunes or during launch when iTunes checks for authorization information.
Install the latest iTunes from apple.com/itunes/download/
    Remove the SC Info folder.
If that does not resolve the issue, see iTunes: "Error 42408" or "Error 42404" after upgrading to iTunes 9.0.3.

  • Ipod Nano Error 1417 Tried and won;t work

I've tried looking through the restart method, the disconnect and reconnect method, and nothing works. My Ipod Nano is Ver. 1.0, and the update process does not pop up with a dialogue box, all it does is 'updating' but it's really doing nothing, help?

are you still at an itunes version 7.0.0.70, Chang?
to check, go "help > about itunes" and wait for the version number to scroll up from the bottom of the screen.
if you've still got a 7.0.0.70, first try an upgrade to 7.0.1.8:
    iTunes 7.0.1.8 Installer
if you still get the 1417 when using 7.0.1.8, let's get your iPod Updater logs to the Apple engineers for a look.
    Open this folder:
    C:\Documents and Setings\yourusername\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPod Updater Logs
(You may need to show hidden files in order to see the Application Data folder. Open up My Computer, and in the Tools menu, choose "Folder Options..." Then go to the View tab, and then in the "Advanced settings", select "Show hidden files and folders.")
Send the files inside the iPod Updater logs folder as attachments to this email address.
In the email to Roy, be sure to include the following information:
    - A link to the thread on Apple Discussions where the issue is being discussed
    - The username you are using in the thread
    - The version of iTunes you are using or trying to use
    - A concise description of the issue you are seeing
    - The exact text of the error message you are seeing

  • Nano error message - "Disk cannot be read from or written to"

I've tried automatic & manual updating of my nano w/o success. IWhen I first connected to iTunes I was asked if I wanted iTunes to select songs for my Nano. I clicked "yes" and got a load of random songs from my iTunes library. Now, whenever I try to follow the instructions to delete songs or change the playlist, I get an error message "The iPod...cannot be updated. The disk could not be read to or written from". How can I get rid of the songs and get a new playlist on it? Following the instructions re manual or automatic updating gets that error message!

Thanks also. I'll have to look at the link you posted to see what the ipod updater is (technophobe), and will try the other poster's tip about the scanner. Thanks again.
    > You need to restore the ipod with the ipod updater.
That's the only way to resolve this error.

  • Nano error message when trying to Sync

I have a new 2 G Nano, and tried to Sync to my Itunes library.
I downloaded the latest version of Itunes and restarted my computer before plugging it in for the first time. Im running Windows XP Pro. An error message comes up.
"Unable to sync. Required Disc not found."
So now I have a few hundred $ of music and audio books in my Itunes library that I cant sync to my Ipod. Not happy. And of course I cant get a refund from Itunes..
Any ideas what I can do?
    Thanks

Check to see if there is a drive/network conflict. With the exception of your iPod (plugged into a rear port on your computer), keyboard and mouse, disconnect ALL other USB devices including phones, cameras, printers, scanners, external hard drives, flash memory drivers, blenders, lights, etc. Also disconnect from any networks.
    Now read this article: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93499
and change the drive letter of your iPod to something much higher, like M or P or Z. Also
