IPod Nano Output to Projector: Video Quality

Hey guys,
I'm looking to buy a few iPod Nano's to use when we play video montages to our clients via LCD projector. Before I buy a bunch of these, I'd like to know what the output video quality will be. These are simple slideshow's created on iMovie and currently, we burn a dvd and simply connect the video out from the dvd player to the projector.
I'd like to simplify this by putting the video on a Nano, then connecting it to our LCD projector. Will I get similar results as with the DVD?
Thanks!

The audio/optical out port will accept the tonslink miniplug for digital out only. You can also use the port for 1/8 " headphones without the miniplug. The video out is on the otherside, its the DVI port. The macbookpro comes with a DVI to VGA adapter. You should hook up your projector to the DVI or the VGA. If you projector does not have DVI or VGA you can adapt from VGA to RCA.

  • Ipod nano won't display video through xtremeMac tango

I have an extremeMac tango which I use to play videos off of my 5th gen ipod video (or classic) 60gb. We recently got a brand new ipod nano 5th gen with video 16gb and it will not play the recorded videos through the tango. Any suggestions?

Call the manufacturer to find out if the iPod Nano 5th generation is compatible with their product.

  • Ipod nano output power

where can I find the output power of my ipod nano 2nd generation? I've googled it but no luck... The apple site has lots of specifications about the iPods but no output power for the nanos (old or new)

I don't believe Apple makes that information available, but it is safe to say the output power is very low, probably around 30 to 100 mW at most. Just as important, the output is almost certainly optimized for headphones like Apple's own earbuds, so you won't get much power for loads much greater than 32 ohms nominal impedance.
Also, FWIW Apple hasn't been noted for providing a particularly high quality headphone amplifier signal path in older iPods but it may be paying more attention to this in newer designs. At one point, only the Shuffle featured a direct coupled output, which produced noticeably better bass response (cleaner, tighter sound, not just more bass), but now seems to be moving away from the inferior capacitively coupled output on at least some other models.

  • Ipod Nano does not play videos on my TV

I have a 4th gen. 16 gb Ipod Nano and I have synced some videos & movies to it.
The movies & videos are in H.264 encoding & I use the video cable that attaches to the bottom jack of the Ipod.
The settings are proper(tv out is turned on)... the Ipod plays the movie on the tv only for about two minutes after which it switches the playback to its own screen.
I have considered the charging issue so have tried to play with/without charging it at the same time.... the problem persists...
Any suggestions as to how I could play videos on my TV using my Ipod !?!

  • Docked iPod only outputs sound during video to TV

I have a 5G iPod in an Apple dock, connected to my TV using a Monster audio cable and an S-Video cable. For some reason, it only outputs sound during videos or a photo slide show - not at all for music only playback. I'm baffled! Any idea why? It's a Panasonic plasma, and I've tried three different inputs. None work for music, but video is fine.

The iPhone 4, unlike iPod, doesn't ask you to set for PAL or NTSC.  In fact, in the SETTINGS/Video menu it only asks if you want to "Start Playing From Beginning", "Closed Captioning" and "Home Sharing".  I was surprised it had no settings like the iPod at all.

  • IPod Nano Won't Sync Videos

Hey Everybody! My iPod Nano That I just barely got cannot sync any videos that i have downloaded to it. I have tried the following video formats but they will not work at all
    MPEG-4
    AVI
    MOV
and MP4 but i think its the same as MPEG-4

Do you get an error message or does it just do nothing?
Have you tried right clicking on the videos in iTunes and picking the menu item to Convert Selection for iPod (or however it is worded)? That can usually take an almost right video and make it all the way right for iPod use.
iPods are a bit fussier about what they can play so a video that can play in iTunes may not be right for the iPod. So that conversion often does the trick.

  • IPod nano won't sync video files

I have an iPod nano that plays video, and I have recently learned to transfer videos from my computer onto the device. The videos show up in iTunes and are in the correct format, but when I hook up my iPod to sync, it acts as if they aren't there. Is there something I'm doing wrong? Please help.

I didn't realize that when you hook up your iPod, there's a tab that says "movies" and an option saying "Sync movies." Whoops.

  • IPod Nano 4th generation Camera Video Question

I have an iPod nano 4th gen. and i would like to import camera videos from it to my mac. In order to do this i need to re-sync it to this computer. So the problem is, if i re-sync the iPod to another computer, will it erase the camera videos from my iPod? Because it says "erase and sync" whenever i connect it. Please help, thanks!

Are you sure you don't actually have a 5G Nano? The 5G Nano was the only model in the Nano lineup that ever had a camera.  If that is the case, see this article for instructions on how to copy these videos to your Mac via the Finder.

  • Transfering my music in ipod nano to the new Video Ipod

Does anyone know how to Transfer music from one ipod to another?

"Does anyone know how to Transfer music from one ipod to another?"
You can't. At least, not directly. If the music is no longer in your iTunes, you'll need to move it from iPod to the library and from there to the new iPod.
If you are using iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
For all other non purchased music (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.
    See: iPod Disk Use.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it can be messy.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music and playlists etc from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.
There is also CopyPod. This does preserve ratings/playcounts etc if those are important to you but this program is not free. It also supports video transfer.

  • Can I download a free exercise video to my computer (not from Itunes)and then  to my ipod nano, and then show it on my tv, and if so how?

Can I download a free exercie video (not from Itunes) to my computer, then to my ipod nano, and then show it on my tv?

If you have a compatible video file, you can add it to your iTunes library by dragging it to the iTunes window, or by using the command
iTunes menu bar -> File -> Add to Library...
If the video is in a format that iTunes can play, it should be imported and appear as a new item in the iTunes Movies library.
It may not be playable on the nano directly, because of its format.  For example, if it's "HD," the resolution is too high for a nano's screen.  If it plays in iTunes, but not on the nano, you can use the command to covert it. Select the item in a list and then
iTunes menu bar -> File -> Create New Version -> Create iPod or iPhone Version
That version should play on an iPod nano.  NOTE:  Some videos downloaded from the iTunes Store cannot be converted to a lower resolution format, because they have DRM (copy protection).

  • Locking video function of ipod nano 5g

    Hi there,
is it possible, to disable the video function of the ipod 5g?
Or lock the Main Menu, so that no one has access without the proper password, like with the maximum loudness?

I *ask, because i want to buy one for my children, but i do not want them to take any movies.*
    Anyone else, please?

Your only recourse is to purchase an iPod without video features. There is no way to just lock any one feature on the iPod Nano 5th gen with video cam *yet.*
