Ipod not being detected by windows. please help!!!

I have an iPod 30 gb. Serial No- 8L647801V9K
Its about two years old.
All of a sudden one fine day, it stopped showing up on my the computer. Neither does itunes detect it nor does internet explorer. A bubble shows up saying the usb device attached has malfunctioned. It doesnt even charge.
I tried resetting it(centre + Menu)
then i thought my usb cable was bad.
i bought another one and the same problem continues.
i even tried the diagnostic option in itunes to detect ipod.
the ipods completely dysfunctional when connected via either of my two cables.
the 'do not disconnect sign' doesnt come and neither does the battery charging one.
there's nothing wrong with my computer or my usb because i tried my ipod with two other computers as well.
But funny enough, the ipod charges with the adaptor.
im totally stumped
i hope i manage to get this issue sorted out.
i feel lost without being able to update my ipod or sync my playlists.
please help me
thanks

So then it is a Classic model and not a 5th generation model?

I have the same problem wiht my 5g 60GB unit, the USB driver reinstall method from the iPod support page does not work, I tried most solutions you find online, 5R's, restarting the PC, cheching the drivers, etc. the last 2 solution I'll try before getting a new mainboard (just to save all the Backup data I have on its disk) to see if it works are:
1.- Connecting it to a Mac, to let it mount, disconnect it safely and test again in a PC. (It worked before with several USB memory drives that weren't recognized after being unplugged from a PC without the proper procedure)
2.- Try with a FireWire cable.
I've been struggling with this for about 2 weeks and those are the only two choices left, during the week I'll check with a friend's Mac (how I miss Mine!) and will keep you posted.
    See ya

  • Ipod not being detected by Windows

Hey! I've asked this question before, but no one has given me anything yet. Not being selfish or anything. But when I put in my ipod my computer tells me:
One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it.
For that, Itunes doesn't detect it either. Can't put songs on when that happens and it leads to an very distressed kid. Can someone help me and others who have this problem?

but then I'll have to get all the song from CD's again.
If they are all in your iTunes library and you sync your iPod, when you get a new iPod, you just need to sync it to the library. If you've been manually managing your iPod's content, and the songs are not stored on your computer, well, you were taking a chance that the iPod would break or get lost.

  • IPod Not Being Seen By Windows, Need Help ASAP...!

I just bought my iPod last year, when to charge it, as well as get some stuff of the HDD, but Windows pops up with an error message saying it's not working. It was working fine a few days ago. Now, for all intents and purposes it seems dead, and there is important stuff I need on the HDD...what can I do?!
    Message was edited by: mlauzon76

I cannot do any of that, the iPod doesn't turn on, and Windows gives an error saying the USB device is not working...so I cannot get anything off my disk. Who at Apple, do I send my iPod to, it'll be a year old for me this coming July?!

  • Ipod not being detected on my dell latitude620

I just got a dell latitude 620 laptop
My ipod is being detected as a "device"
My ipod will charge, but itunes does not recognize it.
I've uninstalled itunes and reinstalled it twice.
And tried about 90% of what apple support suggests
There is nothing wrong with the laptop...that im aware of.
    Please help

When you uninstalled iTunes, did you uninstall *everything*? Take a look at http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1925 , and make sure you completely uninstall iTunes, including the drivers, before you reinstall. If that doesn't work, you might try going back to the last version of iTunes you knew was working -- at least, that will eliminate the question of whether it is iTunes or the iPod. Lastly, sometimes rebooting either the computer and/or the iPod (remember the 5Rs) can sometimes solve the issue.

  • Iphone 4s not being detected by windows 8 laptop and itunes

    Hey all,
My iphone 4s is stuck in recovery mode and my laptop is not detecting the iphone when i plug it in. I plug in my other iphone and ipods fine but this iphone 4s is not being detected so i know it is not the cables. I have uninstalled all of the apple apps and drivers from my computer including itunes and re-installed them again and still nothing. When i turn on the iphone it shows a blue itunes logo with a cable indicating for me to connect it to my laptop, but it turns off after 30 seconds which doesn't allow it to restore thus a notification shows up on itunes saying that the iphone could not be found.
I downloaded the latest version of ios, but could not install it since the iphone is not responding. so right now it is basically a paper weight.
Is there anything i can do?
    thanks all....

    Hello Bethany2
Try creating a different user for your computer and open iTunes to see if shows up in that newly created user. The article below will home a few more troubleshooting steps, some of which you have already tried.

  • 360 wireless received not being detected by Windows 7 64bit

Greetings, I bought this controller a couple of years ago and it's worked fine with Win7 until now. Now the receiver isn't being detected by 2 different computers. This makes it sound like the receiver has failed, but because it's not really and active
device how often do they really fail? There doesn't appear to be anyway to force Windows to detect something, the "find new device" wizard never finds it's and never even returns from looking. Any advice is appreciated.

Windows 7 is an Operating System.  It is not a diagnostic tool and it has no capability to compensate for defective hardware!
You need to contact your service provider or the manufacturer for diagnostic assistance with your defective hardware.  All hardware fails at some point.  Some may be fully functional for years while others will fail within a very short period time.
The is now way to forecast when a piece of hardware will fail.

  • Ipod not being recognized by windows computer

I have a video Ipod and a older nonclick wheel type Ipod. Neither one will connect to my computer. Although last week they connected without any problem. Also my wife's Ipod mini connects correctly. I've uninstalled Itunes and reinstalled it. I reinstalled the drivers for the 'Mass storage usb device' in the device manager. I've reset my Ipods. What should I do next?

Have you had a chance to look at these troubleshooting pages? They may be of some help:

My original pacjkaging only had the one disc with itunes and ipd sw (no specfic Windows sw)... And even if this sw is on the disc.. it wont connect to my laptop as its formatted for a mac!! Im going on holiday in two days.... PLS HELP ME.

I have the same problem! My iPod worked for about 2 hours and then, it froze and turned off and now all I get is a sad iPod icon. I have done everything and it will not reset/restor/go into disk mode or anything. I have downloaded all new software and my PC won't recognize anything.

  • IPod not being "recognized" by Windows XP

So I just got my 30GB iPod Video and I installed all the software and stuff. I hooked the USB cable up, but each time windows says "USB Device not Recognized". I looked at the message and it says something about a driver not being installed for the device. If anyone could help me I would love it!!! I've done EVERYTHING!!!

I hope this will help. I had installed my 5th Gen. 30 Gig iPod on my computer which originally only had 1.1 USB ports on it at that time, and it did sync and work, but I wanted to be able to sync faster. So, I had a 2.0 USB card installed. This card would not recognize my iPod at all. I reinstalled iTunes and iPod software thinking that would help, but nothing helped the 2.0 card simply would not work with the iPod.
So, I went to the iPod search site and did a search to find approved 2.0 usb cards. That yeilded several pages of approved USB cards. I took this list to my computer guru, they ordered me one of the approved cards, took out the first "generic usb 2.0" card they had installed and put in the new on. Guess what, it immediately worked when I plugged in my iPod!!! It copied 59.2 minutes worth of music to the iPod in less than 10 seconds! I am amazed how much faster it is.
I say all of this to say that your computer's USB card may not be compatible with your iPod. If not, change out the card with one that is. I hope you will have the same success I had. What a difference it makes! Good luck.

  • New Zen Touch not being detected by Windows

I just bought a 20 gig Zen Touch off ebay, and tried to get it to run.
The firmware on the Zen tells me it's version 2..0, which is the PlaysForSure version. So, I downloaded the driver specific to PlaysForSure, and tried to run it. It looked like it installed just fine, but when I plug in the player, it just recognizes it (at the start) as Creative Zen Touch, and opens up the Found New Hardware wizard. So, I don't think it recognizes my Zen.
This, of course, leads to all the programs not being able to recognize my Zen, either, and to me not being able to reload the firmware (just in case), or anything of the sort. Not really sure how to proceed, and I've been scanning the help files, which have been no help. The knowledge database seems to suggest that Windows XP will just load the proper drivers, which, of course, it doesn't.
How do I proceed? I thought this would be the answer, but it presumes that Windows will detect the device as an MTP, and somehow just find the right driver, which it doesn't.
I'm at a bit of a loss as to where I go from here. The drivers aren't installing, and the closest I can get is my Device Manager showing the Creative Zen with a big yellow question mark next to it, because the drivers aren't installed properly.
    Help?

Try downloading and installing the latest drivers, Creative Zen and Jukebox Driver Upgrade version .30.03.
Also try running a disk cleanup from rescue mode.

  • IPod not being detected by iTunes..

Alright, so lately been iTunes decides to not copy some video files converted with Videora, but didn't really care till I had this video really wanted to watch. So, I check Apple Support>Do5 5Rs, which when I get upto Restore,it does nothing but copy less video files after, and 105 podcasts out of 255! GR8, how useful! Give it another try, and now it fails, and after that I cannot detect the iPod at all!!!!!!!
I did Diagnostics and it does find iPod, the program detects it but it fails a sync test, interestingly enough it doesn't show it as a device!!!!
Also, I reinstalled, cleared Registry, did the Windows Installer Clean thingie, deleted Temp, did Disk Mode, nothing. When connected, just says on iPod, connected, eject b4 disconnecting!
    So, what to do?

Alright, fixed by going to My Computer> selecting the iPod and doing Disk Check, and automatically fix errors, the first one.
But prob now is it still won't sync all the videos, why?!!!
