IPod only playing music through one earphone

My ipod (5th gen) is only playing music through one earphone! Its definitely not the earphones because they work perfectly fine in my iphone. What could the problem be?

first off try a different set of headphones, just because they work in x doesn't mean they will work in y. Second try cleaning it- blowing in it, compressed air, more than likely there's a piece of lint or dirt stuck in there. reset, update or restore the ipod. at your own risk you could check to see that all internal connections are seated properly as these zif connectors can come loose. if nothing you probably need a new audio jack

  • Airport Express only plays music through one stereo speaker.

I have my stereo system connected to an airport express through a monster cable. It only ever plays through one speaker. If I connect my iPod to the stereo through the same monster cable connection it plays through both speakers. Does anyone have any idea why music only plays through one speaker when I play it wirelessly through airport express? Thanks.

    HOW TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM
(if your airport is out of warranty, you don't want to pay for a repair, and you don't mind how it looks)
After reading many forums about this, it seems that the problem is a simple design one - the connector in the headphone jack input is a bit badly thought out; it bends out of connection easily, and there is nothing to spring it back into place. So, after a bit of usage and plugging/unplugging jacks in, it bends far enough to stop the connection.
It can be (sort of) easily fixed...
What you need is a small screwdriver and a hammer.
Pries the casing open (this will partly destroy it forever) by hammering in the screwdriver into the gap in the casing. Do this gradually at various points all around it until it start to come apart.
You will then be able to open in (partially)
If you look inside there is a connector that needs to be disconnected so that the two halves can come apart. disconnect this.
Next, unscrew all the screws you can see (using a 00 philips head screwdriver) These screws both hold the circuitry to the case and a metal dividing plate over the headphone/printer/ethernet jacks.
Pull the metal cover off (the cover that covers the components)
You will then see a circuit board that contains the headphone jack, carefully remove this (It is connected by a removable connector.)
You now have the headphone input and it's circuitry in your hand.
You will notice that the H-P input has a small metal case around it. Carefully prise this off.
Now you see a yellow sticker and underneath this - THE OFFENDING ITEM (BAD CONNECTOR)
Peel the sticker off carefully (you need to put it back on afterwards)
Push the connector into the H-P Input - make sure you bend it and it pokes out in the H-P hole so it will make a nice connection.
Put it all back together again.
Wrap it in duck tape or selotape (as the case is now a bit broken)
That's it - that's all you have to do!
    Music in both channels!!
Did this with mine and it works perfectly now - just be careful with the circuit boards when taking apart.

  • I only hear music through one earphone

Excuse me of the bad English.
When I try to listen to music on my Nokia Lumia 520 only 1 earphone makes sound. My question is why does this happen and what can I do to fix it?

    depends on the issue.
    1. make sure that yo have the headset completely plugged in.
if that doesnt fix it, then i would go back to where you purchased the device and see if you can exchange the headset as it may be defective.

  • IPod Classic 80GB will only play music through the right earphone

    Hi everybody
a few days ago my ipod stopped playing music through both earphones and will now only play through the right one. it isn't the headphones because i brought a new set and used another set that i know work through both earphones but neither will work through both earphones on my ipod. This problem is really annoying me. I tried resetting it but nothing. I didn't do anything to it, i just didn't use it for a few days. and i really want to avoid restoring it to factory settings because it is almost full and only a handful of my songs are on my computer. any solutions?

Yeah I now know that after finding it in another thread. Thanks anyway. I live in Australia so I just gotta find someone who will repair it because I don't wanna risk ruining it by trying to do it myself. I asked an electronics place that replaces the batteries but they wouldn't do it. So if I can't find anybody to fix it, I'll probably buy a new one (cos I need one anyway) and try to fix the old one. The problem with finding someone to fix it is that I live in a country town and about 2-3 hours from Sydney and we don't have much here.

  • My ipod fourth generation only play music through headphones cant play on it's internal speaker

my ipod fourth generation only play music through headphones cant play on it's internal speaker

    - Insert/remove the headphne plug a dozen times or so. Clean out/blow out the headphone jact.
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - A reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
If you still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order. You likey have a bad headphone jack.

  • My Lightning to 30-Pin Connector will only play music through my iPod dock, and will not charge my iPod touch 5th gen.

My Lightning to 30-Pin Connector will only play music through my iPod dock from my iPod, and will not charge my iPod touch 5th gen. Help me please.

Have you tried resetting the dock by removing it from power?  What about resetting the iPod Touch? To do this, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.

  • My daughters ipod only plays out of one side on her headphones.  Is there a problem with the ipod?

My daughters ipod only plays out of one side on her headphones.  I've tried other headphones.  Is there a problem with her ipod?

First make sure the headphones are plugged in all the way in (it takes a bit of force to get the solid click sound) and sound balance is set in the middle. Second, test the headphones on another device to see if they operate correctly and test the iPod with the original Apple earphones that came with the iPod to see if it works correctly. Lastly, if you are using third-party headphones, make sure that their plug is iPod compatible.

  • Why is my ipod not playing music through a docking station?

Why is my ipod touch not playing music through a docking station?

Did it work before with this iPod?
Did you do something to the iPod since it last worked?
Does the manufacture way it will work with your model iPod and its iOS?

  • Captured video only plays audio through one speaker

I captured video from a mini dv and when I play the clip in FCP the audio only plays out of one speaker and it only shows on one audio meter in FCP. I captured this video with a DSR-20 and it displayed NS Audio on the screen. Both meters were playing on the deck and in FCP while previewing and also through my headphones. Does anyone know what I need to do this to correct this?

First I'd verify how the audio was captured. Did you have it set for Ch 1 + Ch 2, or Stereo, or Ch 1 [only], or Ch 2 [only] or as a mono mix?
Next, verify that you actually had two channels of audio on the tape, not just one channel.
Assuming that there are two channels on the tape, load the captured clip into the Viewer and see if there is an audio waveform on both channels. If there is, check to see if both channels are panned the same - if they are, pan one left and one right or both to center.
If there were no waveforms on one of the channels, try capturing a short segment of the same tape using another Firewire cable.

  • Ipod touch 4 will only play music through Bluetooth device.

My daughter's iPod Touch 4 iOS 6.1.5 will not play music or video through onboard speaker or headphones.  Music and videos will not even run unless Bluetooth is enabled and the device is connected to the Bluetooth speaker.  I have tried blowing out the headphone jack and different sets of headphones.
Will restoring the iOS help solve this?

As I said in a reply to your other post, it will help if you have a software problem. Not if it is a hardware problem.

  • 5th Generation iPod only plays out of one speaker

So I have an 5th generation iPod and have never had ANY problems with it apart from the usual freezing and a few odd corrupt songs. I've had this iPod for five years now and for the longest time I thought that my iPod dock was broken because whenever I put my iPod on, it only came out of the left speaker so in specific songs you could only hear half of the people singing.
I recently bought a new dock but have come to the realization that it is no in fact the dock but my iPod.
I have checked multiple other discussions and no one has had this exact problem because through the headphone jack and with any headphones or connections from the jack it plays perfectly through both the Left and the Right.
I think it's something to do with the bottom outlet that connects to the dock because if I move it at a certain angle, it works. However, it's very inconvenient because the angle doesn't stay and eventually the iPod shifts and the right speaker cuts out again.
I've had this iPod for 5 years and it works PERFECTLY just not on a dock ! Please help so I don't have to go buy a new one. Thanks.

  • My headphones only play songs through one headphone :( Please help me!

One day I tried to play a song through my ipod but the song only played through one headphone. I thought that they were broken but when I checked on my brother they worked perfectly fine. So it must be my ipod. I have tried restoring it (twice) and I have checked all of my songs and they are all Sterio and the headphone port is connected all the way so could someone please tell me what to do next, thanks!

Someone please help I've been trying for ages now...I need to use my ipod i've gone cold turkey not using it!

  • Ipod classic only plays music through the left earphone. Has anyone had this before and is there anyway to fix this?

I imagine there is a problem with the headphone socket. Will i have to send my i-pod to apple to sort or will it almost be cheaper to just replace it?

I had a quick search for prices last night. As I recall the site that caught my eye was the e-bay store for this company but I was looking at their page for Nano & 5th gen. They're quoting £29.99 for the 6th gen. service, probably more because it is harder to get into. As I understand it you book the service, send it in via insured post, they fix and send it back. You can shop around, that looks like a reasonable deal.
    Good luck.

  • I have a 2nd or 3rd generation iPod touch. Recently, it doesn't recognize headphones and will only play music through it's speakers. I've tried cleaning the area where you plug in the headphones but this has not helped. What should I do?

My ipod touch (2nd or 3rd generation) won't recognize headphones anymore! I have'nt gotten it wet or dropped it. I've tried cleaning out the plug where you plug the headphones in. I've had no luck. Is this fixable or is it time to trash this iPod?

    - Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so. There is a little switch in the headphone jack that disconnects the speaker when the headphone jack is inserted.
Try the following to rule out a software problem
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a bad headphone jack.
Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
If not under warranty Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for this price. They do not fix yours.
    Apple - iPod Repair price
A third-party place like the following will replace the jack for less. Google for more.
iPhone Repair, Service & Parts: iPod Touch, iPad, MacBook Pro Screens
    Replace the jack yourself
    iPod Touch Repair – iFixit
It i likely not worth getting it fixed if a bad headphone jack
