IPod preferences in iTunes incomplete

This is a repost of a problem I've been having.
When I connect the iPod to my G4 at home (see details below) the preferences only show "Music" and "Podcasts". To the right of that submenu, it shows my iPod version as "6.0". From my iTunes at home I can't upload video or photos. However, when I connect to my G5 at work (OSX 10.3.9, iLife '05, iTunes 6.0.1, Quicktime 7.0.3) the "Video", "Photo", "Contacts" and "Calender" update menus all appear. To the right of those submenus the iPod version is displayed as "1.1", which is correct according to the "About" menu on my iPod.
Things I have tried to rectify the situation:
-deleting iTunes and reinstalling
-verifying and repairing disk permissions
-downloading the latest iPod update 2006-1-10
Given that both computers are running OSX 10.3.9, I'm pretty certain it's not an OS issue. The software on my home computer, aside from the OS, is more up to date than my work computer, so why is my iPod use maximized at work and not at home?
Please help. Thanks.

  • Any way to reset the iPod preferences in iTunes?

For a while now I've had a problem where my iPod Shuffle is recognized as a Shuffle by the Finder, but not by the iPod updater or iTunes. They both seemed to think that the Shuffle was actually a normal iPod. Contacts and calendars would try to sync and even if I only let a couple songs get transferred, I can't hear them with the Shuffle anyway.
This problem had gone away for a couple weeks. My computer was restarted and all of a sudden iTunes was recognizing my Shuffle as a gasp Shuffle. Unfortunately, today it went back to thinking it was some other kind of iPod. So I did a software update (iTunes 6.0.3 to 6.0.4 and a security update) and allowed the computer to restart. Still having the same darn problem. In iTunes the Shuffle isn't recognized as a Shuffle but is recognized as a normal iPod.
When it shows up on the desktop, however, it has the Shuffle icon.
My Powerbook running the same OS and software versions works fine - but all my music is on my desktop. Please someone tell me how to get iTunes to work properly!

You could try if deleting the iPod prefs. helps.
Move 'com.apple.iPod.plist' (in ~/Users/YourUsername/Library/Preferences) to the trash.
Run iTunes. iTunes will create a new iPod prefs. file.
If this doesn't work, you might have to restore the iPod:

    Hope this helps.

  • Ipod shuffle with itunes no playlist

After upgrading to latest iTunes 12.0.1.26 I can no longer sync any music or playlists to my ipod shuffle. I have 37Gb of music available, but when I select my device and then settings/music, it shows no playlists or tracks to sync? I hate this new iTunes, why do they keep changing it? I'm tired of forever changing formats and settings... so pi**ed off with it!!!

Read a thread about changing the iPod Preferences from disk use. Plugged it into my old Win7 64bit machine which had no problem yesterday and today it is doing the same thing as my new machine. So I can't view the iPod Preferences in iTunes. I probably shouldn't have updated my iTunes. There seems to be an issue with the latest version because all was fine with the old software.

  • IPod Shuffle with iTunes on Win8 64 bit. Doesn't work for me.

Running Win 8 64bit. iTunes initially recognizes my iPod shuffle but then it disappears. Properties say driver is up-to-date. Details say Windows is removing the device. Restarted with connected and same problem. Downloaded iTunes today - 1/5/13. Any ideas?

  • Where's the "Display album artwork on your iPod" preference?

Everything seems to work fine with iTunes 9.0.1 and my iPod Classic 80G, except that it doesn't seem possible to remove album artwork from the iPod. I just read the article "[Viewing album artwork on iPod|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2317?viewlocale=en_US]" and I know that I just have to deselect the "Display album artwork on your iPod" preference in iTunes. The problem is that, after selecting my iPod under the Devices section in the iTunes Source pane, I can't find any such preference in the Music tab. I can see two radio buttons ("Entire music library" and "Selected playlists, artits, and genres") and one checkbox ("Include music videos"), but no "Display album artwork on your iPod" checkbox.
    Any idea?

Since when has the left hand known what the right hand is doing in any organiszation.
Can you give a reference supporting your statement ?
From Apple? No. Plenty of threads in here though, both builds of iTunes 9 released for Mac & PC have been missing this feature and people have given feedback. This is either a policy change and it will remain that way or it was accidentally omitted during the redesign in which case it may reappear in a future build. Either way the control isn't magically missing from just your copy, it's the same for all of us.

  • "Itunes cannot read the contents of ipod. Go to the summary tab in Ipod preferences and click Restore to restore this ipod to factory settings." What is this?

I have been getting this error message since about the end of June when I updated to the latest version of iTunes. It's pretty annoying. Let me lay out how this has been happening for the past month, the best I can. I have a 32GB 4th gen iPod Touch
I load content up to my iPod. Music, Apps, Videos, pictures, etc.
My iPod works well for a little while, days sometimes a week is the longest I went without seeing this message.
I connect iPod back to my laptop through the standard pack in Apple USB connector.
I get the "Itunes cannot read the contents of ipod. Go to the summary tab in Ipod preferences and click Restore to restore this ipod to factory settings." message. When I go to the preferences tab, I click restore and iTunes gets stuck trying to restore my iPod. Then I have to uplug my iPod. And Shutdown/Restart my PC reconnect my iPod, and go through the restore process again.
I have been doing this for as I said, a month. It's getting pretty grueling to keep havomh putting cotent on my iPod after these restores.
    I've tried everything.
I've stopped autosync, it still happens.
I tried to reinstall iTunes(be it I didn't full uninstall before trying to install again and got the option to fix corrupted files and such
I've deleted all old back up, and it still happens
Today is the fist time I'm fully uninstalling iTunes, and then reinstalling to see if this works.
But do you guys have any otehr solutions for this? As I said, this didn't start happening until I installed the lastest version of iTunes 10.6.3

    - Have you tried another cable?
    - Another USB port?
    - When you have the problem, connect it to another computer to help determine if you have an iPod or computer problem.
    - Try just restoring the iPod to factory settings/new iPod. Do not restore from backup. If you still have the problem with this and all computer that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Ipod preference pane missing in itunes 7.1?

I just upgraded iTunes to 7.1.1 and want my iPod icon to remain visible, even when it's not connected to my computer. But now, under preferences, there is no tab for iPod, to change this setting. Anyone know where it went?
      Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Unfortunately, this isn't possible. The iPod icon will only display in the source list when an iPod is plugged in. Also, the new iPod page (what you first see when you plug in an iPod, or select one that is plugged in) has all the options that used to be in the iPod preferences tab.

  • Itunes won't let me change my ipod preferences :(

For some reason I can no longer update my ipod because an error message appears saying that all my playlists no longer exist. However: I can clearly see my playlists in my itunes... I tried adjusting my ipod preferences so that it updates all checked playlists and then i checked all my playlists. The problem is that once I do that, I get an error message saying that "my ipod's preferences were not saved because 'it' could not be found"... What can I do?

  • Itunes cannot read contents of the ipod.  go to summary tab in ipod preferences and click restore to restore to factory settings

I plugged in my ipod to install the latest version of itunes on my computer and I got this message:  "itunes cannot read contents of the ipod.  go to summary tab in ipod preferences and click restore to restore to factory settings".  I can't get rid of it and now have zero songs on my ipod but all of my songs are in my library.  Help, please.

Sorry, my mistake, the nano has a flash-based drive so most of that post won't apply, although you might see if the DFU restore section works.

  • Calendar tab does not appear in iTunes iPod preferences

The calendar and contacts tab does not appear when I go to preferences in iTunes with my iPod is attached. I am running 10.3.9. I have rebuilt permissions and trashed prefs. Are the tabs a 10.4 feature? They seemed to be a part of iTunes 5 so I suspect they should be there. I have read about using iSync on the posts but would prefer it happen automatically when I plug my new iPod in. Thanks for any help you can give me.

Quote from the page below "If you are using Mac OS 10.3.9 or earlier, you cannot use iTunes to sync contacts and calendars to iPod"

  • My ipod works in itunes but does not appear in "my computer" after I changed the properties

My ipod works in itunes but does not appear in "my computer" after I changed the properties.
First off, I'm using Windows XP (and Mac SnowLeopard) Here's how it started. For some reason my ipod started showing up as a camera when I plugged it in. It works fine in itunes, though. But when I tried to access it from "my computer" it only
showed me the one and only picture I had on my ipod. I deleted that picture hoping it would no longer show up as a camera. When it still did I right-clicked on it in "my computer" and selected "properties". Under "autoplay" I
chose for it to 'not show up' or 'take no action' or some such deal when I plugged it in. I thought that would stop it from popping up the window that asks whether i want to 'open camera wizard' or 'open camera scanning' or 'open folder to view files' or 'take
no action' , etc. But now it won't show up in "my computer" at all. I also have a Mac with SnowLeopard. When I plugged my ipod into it my ipod doesn't show up in "finder" either! So basically my problem is not a mechanical one with hardware
or software; yht ipod still works fine in itunes. I just need to undo the change I made. I've searched all around my preferences, utilities, options, etc. It shows up on my "Device Manager" but not on "Disk Management".
Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi,
To show up in Windows Explorer, you can try placing the iPod into
    disk mode.
    Moreover, i recommend you to
    restore ipod to factory settings.
If this issue still persists, locate to device manager, uninstall and reinstall USB Mass Storage Device driver.

  • Managing 2 iPods with 1 iTunes - How???

    Dear readers
    I own 2 iPods:
    -a 2G 20GB
    -a 5G 30GB
I now have more than 20GB of music in iTunes.
My question is: what is the easiest way to manage these 2 ipods using the same iTunes and music library, particularly as one iPod cannot now hold all of the music.
I used to just auto update with everything in the library for both pods, but now, connecting the 20GB gives me an error message that the library is too large.
Will iTunes remember different preferences for 2 different iPods, so I can auto update everything on one and only selected playlists on the other?
    Any suggestions much appreciated.

Yep, that is the exact setup I have going on here
with my 4G 20GB iPod and recently purchased 5G 30GB
iPod. As my iTunes library has also passed the 20GB
mark I simply set in the preference for iTunes to
auto update only contacts, calendars, and select
playlists of my favorite songs on the 4G; while
updating everything (including photos and videos) on
the 5G. So far I've run into no problems, and after
connecting and disconnecting both iPods multiple
times, iTunes remembers my selected preferences
    perfectly.
Best of luck and happy holidays!!!
    Mervyn
    Many thanks, Mervyn.
Yes, I think this is the way for me to go. I just wasn't sure about iTunes remembering 2 different sets of preferences. If it can, then that's me sorted - update everything on the 30GB and only selected playlists on the 20GB.
    Cheers.

  • How can i put songs from my ipod into my itunes library?

I want to sort out all mu music on my ipod and start fresh, but i want to keep all my music. Is there a way of putting music from my ipod into my iTunes library? I understand that if there is music on my ipod then i mustve put it on there from the library but i dont think i did! It's just not there! all i need to do is transfer it from my ipod to my itunes library Pls help. Ta.

iTunes includes an option to transfer iTunes content that was purchased/downloaded from the iTunes store from an iPod, iPad, or iPhone, but this is for iTunes content that was purchased/downloaded from the iTunes store only.
With your iPod connected, at the iTunes menu bar go to File and select Transfer Purchases From - the name of your iPod.
If you had Sync Music selected under the Music tab for your iPod sync preferences with iTunes, after downloading a song from the iTunes store direct with your iPod, the song would be copied to your iTunes library automatically the first time you sync your iPod with iTunes after doing so.
Manually managing music and videos is manual all the way.
