Ipod producing stereo sound in one headphone

so today i semi dropped my ipod and then i had no sound from headphones, then i hit it and the sound came back in one ear and not the other.....is my ipod messed? or just crap headphones? any ideas on it?

I kinda dropped my ipod as well and no sound came from any headphones or my car tape deck adaptor. So then I decided to do a software update and then it worked…but out of only one ear. Don't now what else to do except bring it in where I got it, its still under warranty.

Had you brought the same pair of headphones to the Apple Store with you and they worked there?  If you hadn't, the wire or plug on those headphones may have failed.  Try a different pair if you can and see if those work.
    Hope this helps

  • HT201401 Only hearing sound from one headphone?

I only receive sound through one headphone, but have tried different headphones and the same problem exists. Any ideas on fixing the problem?

    (Found this by another user)
"You simply need a replacement headphone jack. The problem is one of the contacts in your headphone jack (the metal that touches the plug on your headphones) got bent/damaged/etc. Replacing the headphone jack should do the trick.
You can probably get it sent somewhere for servicing as well. You also have various options of trading it in or selling it, etc.

  • Ipod doesn't produce stereo sound from iphone built-in speakers?

I've had my iphone for some time now, but just noticed that when playing music from the ipod built-in to the iphone, the music is only coming from one speaker (the one on the bottom left).
Is that normal? I would assume both speakers would be used?
I checked the settings and couldn't find a setting for "stereo sound" and did a forum search and couldn't find an answer.

fair enough i didn't think i had posted it in the right forum, so i posted it in the ipod/audio one as well....
    anyway, thanks for the answer.

  • Ipod to stereo sound loss

I've been searching a bit for this, but has anyone noticed some serious sound loss when connecting ipod to stereo or television and trying to play music? I've used it for TV and I didn't notice any major loss, but for music (using the standard headphone jack to white and red plug), it *****! If I turn the stereo up full ball it still lacks any punch (on a cd it would deafen me at this level). I want to buy a car stereo with an aux imput, but don't want to if it's not going to be loud. The ipod is new, so just want to know if this is normal?

I have used all of my 4 iPods as the main source for music connected to my living room stereo for years throug a docking station. (Not through the headphone output.)For my stereo i think the "latin" equalizer setting is closest to CD sound, but that varies. The sound is very close to CD sound and I do not lack any punch. I am using the same set up in the car and no problems there either. With the latest docing station the volume on the iPod has to be on full, but it automatically goes to full volume when docking.
By the way, I am using it with to stereos, One Denon and one Bose.
    Regards,
    Trond

  • My Ipod touch no sound coming through headphones ...only slight crackling of the song in left ear bud ...Ive tried other head phones it was working fine yesterday

my Ipod touch isnt playing the music through my headphones... only a slight crackling noise with faint music comes trough the left earbud ...Ive tried other headphones still not working ...It was fine yesterday it wasnt dropped nor did it get wet.it also doesnt have any sound coming out of the internal speaker when the headphones are removed.can it be fixed?

To rule out a software problem try the following:
    - A reset. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory defaults/new iPod
If you still have the problem then it is likely that the headphone jack is defective.

Make sure your tracks are mono. Then try again and let us know. Or if you are sure you need a stereo track, make sure there are information both on the left and right channel. Also check your pan settings.

  • Sound works from one headphone only

    Dear all,
I can hear sound from one headphone only.
I can confirm I have tried with three different headsets including the one provided by Sony.
I can also confirm the problem happens with all applications (Spotify, Walkman, SoundCloud) including the provided sounds and ringtones.
Also, the phone has not come in contact with water yet and it hasn't been dropped either (it's two weeks old).
Last time it worked, was last night when I connected it to my home stereo using a normal stereo minijack. It has stopped working since then.
I have restarted it a number of times and the problem persists.
    Can you please advise?
    Many thanks in advance

  • Disabling Stereo Sound

    Hi,
I am partially deaf in one ear and so listening to music with stereo sound through headphones can ruin it, is there any way to disable stereo sound to the headphones jack?
    Thanks.

Nevermind I did more digging and found it, follow the path:
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Accessibility, and then click Audio.
Select the “Play stereo audio as mono” checkbox.
    Hope this helps someone else.

  • TS1425 My iPod Classic was working fine all day.  Came home and uploaded to voice memos via iTunes, now there is no sound coming from my iPod.  I've used both headphones and a docking station.  The songs don't even begin, they just skip to the next one.

Hi, and welcome to Apple Discussions.
Have you tried resetting the PMU?
I'm not optimistic that this will help any more than the procedures you've already tried, but it won't hurt to try.
Do you still have your OS 9 installation? If so, try booting into OS 9 and see if the problems with the audio are happening there, too. If so, you can bet it's a hardware problem.
How big is your hard drive and how much space remains available on it? If you don't have your OS 9 installation in order to check out whether it's a hardware problem and you have enough available hard drive space, you may want to try an Archive and Install of the OS in order to make sure it isn't an OS X system-wide problem. If that doesn't do it, you could back up your hard drive and restore your software.
All of this may just be spinning your wheels, but it's all stuff you can try before shelling out a lot of money for repairs.

  • IPOD Classic 30GB Sound in only one ear-Not a headphone issue! Help...

    Hi,
I have the classic IPOD and have had it for 13 months. Go figure, warrantee is now up. Anyhow, the sound in one ear just stopped working. I thought it was the headphones but it's not. I can not find any settings in the menu for the balance on it.
    Any have this happen?
    Tara

Disregard the other 2 users. One sounds like an idiot and the other told you its unfixable when, it is in fact, fixable.
You simply need a replacement headphone jack. The problem is one of the contacts in your headphone jack (the metal that touches the plug on your headphones) got bent/damaged/etc. Replacing the headphone jack should do the trick.
If you want a DIY project, these jacks are about $15-25 including shipping on eBay. Heres an example of what you need (note this is not my auction):

You can probably get it sent somewhere for servicing as well. You also have various options of trading it in or selling it, etc.
Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
EDIT: By the way, your iPod is a 5th Generation iPod (a.k.a. iPod with video)

  • IPod not putting out sound on right headphone

As of yesterday, my iPod is not producing any sound through the right headphone. I've tried my headphones on other devices and they work, and also tried other headphones on my ipod and the right headphone still has no sound.
It seems like a problem with the connection because when I jiggle the headphone jack, I get brief bursts of soun (it seems like if I physically hold the headphone jack towards the back of the ipod, it helps).
Anyone else encounter this or have a suggestion?

  • My ipod video wont play sound through the headphone jack or the bottom connector

Hello everyone. I have an iPod Video 60GB (supports video output through the headphone jack). Which I believe was the last one before the iPod "classic".
Anyways awhile back it stopped outputting sound through the headphone jack, I assumed I had damaged the jack itself as commonly happens but it stopped outputting sound through the dock connector to my ipod speaker dock and my cars ipod connector. The clicker wont make any noise either.
When I tried to search for an answer to this problem years ago I couldnt find anything and knowing it would be out of warrenty I put it aside and forgot about it. Having searched again recently it seems as if this could be the audio processor or some component on the board coming loose? Has anyone outlined this problem with pictures and steps to repair it?
I *may* take it in and pay the $30 but I would much prefer to fix it myself. Thank you for any help with this.

Update: The model # is MA147LL. Not sure why my edit didnt take effect.
