Ipod randomly pauses for 3 or 4 seconds...

I have a 160gig Classic and it's been wonderful. Until the last update. Now it's started pausing or "cutting out" for 3 or 4 seconds randomly during songs. When I rewind the song and play the same spot, it plays fine, so it's not the songs (they all played fine before the update). It also doesn't happen during the same songs. I can play the same song (start it over) after it pauses, and it will play just fine. I'm about to pull my hair out. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
CJ

Had the same problem with my 160Gb. It only started to happen after upgrading the firmware to the latest. So I downgraded it and the problem went away. Being bored one say I was looking through my fsck logs and discovered that every-time the ipod was plugged in it had had some minor hard disk errors which fsck fixed. So I took it back to the apple store explained the problem and got a new one. This has had no problem with the new firmware, nor any strange errors in the fsck log. I think the problem with the freezing is something to do with the hard-disk, and the latest firmware somehow brings that out.

  • Ipod randomly pauses then resumes (seems to skip like a cd player)

I brought my 30gig ipod about 2 months ago on only recently has this problem been happening. It seems to pause for about half a second then resumes automatically, simalar to what happened to the old cd player walkmans when you shook them. My friend recently had a similar problem with his ipod mini and they said it was his hard drive but his ipod would stop playing for about 20 secs and then resume or just stop playing completely. Please help, Josh

    See if the following helps
    For Mac computer
    1. Open the disk utility, hope your iPod appears there (left hand side), highlight it
    2. Go to Tab “Partition”, click either “Delete” or “Partition”, if fails, skip this step and go to 3
    3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
    4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
    5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
    6. Open the iPod Updater and click “Restore”

  • Ipod Randomly Pausing Songs

    hi all,
Just before i went on holiday i bought the isound 2.1 sound dock system, and also updated my ipod touch to 1.1.5 update
Since then, my ipod randomly pauses songs, regardless of the screen being on / off, the lock feature being on / off, using the dock speakers, 3.5 jack speakers, or earphones
im really hoping its down to a firmware issue but i have no idea.
    Any suggestions?

The iPod will pause if you pull the earbud jack out - this is a feature. Unfortunately sometimes a set of earbuds will have a jack this is just a bit loose and this will fool the iPod into pausing. Try using a different pair of buds. If the problem continues with a different set of earbuds, give Apple a call.

  • IPod randomly pauses

Just got a 30gb iPod video about a week ago, and it's started just randomly pausing while playing songs. Any ideas? And no, I'm not accidently pressing pause!

I got the same thing on a road trip this weekend. It mostly happened just after starting a song and it would often pause twice. I got that look from my wife like "You paid $400 for this?".

  • IPod keeps pausing for no reason

My iPod keeps pausing during a song for no apparent reason. is this related to my earphones? They are plugged in. Perhaps the headphone jack?

this is one of two problems:
    1) your headphones are causing the ipods headphone jack to think that the headphones are out, therefore pausing.
2)there is a defective part in your ipod's headphone jack.
i would try using somebody elses earphones for a while to see if it is your earphones that are causing the problem.

  • Ipod Classic pauses then restarts after two seconds

I have Ipod Clasic 160 - recently it has started pausing then restarting within a second or two. It is mainly (but not exclusively) happening on lossless tracks. I have seen this has come before on teh forum - but not a definitive fix. I've tried the 5 Rs. Any ideas?

    Bump.

  • IPod randomly pausing

When I'm listening to music sometimes my iPod just pauses. It can happen a lot one after another, or it can be ages between pauses. My iPod is locked when this happens.
    Any ideas?

I have the very same issue, and have tried erasing, reformatting, restoring and I've tried the 5 'R's but to no avail.
I am really frustrated by this problem, so I have complained to Apple using the iPod feedback page: http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipod.html and I urge others who are experiencing the same issue to do the same.

  • Application pauses for up to 4 seconds at random places in processing loop.

We developed a VI that reads data from an image capture card and processes it in a loop. The processing is accomplished at near real-time approaching the 30 fps rate. Periodically, however, the entire system will hang for nearly 4 seconds. This appears to include all Windows activity. The activity monitor shows processor activity peaking (~100&) and attributes the activity to the LabVIEW process (although the monitor ceases to update during the pause). The pause occurs at random points of execution.
Multiple windows (instances of "Image Display") are updated in the loop. When these are bypassed in favor of a floating window, the severity of the problem diminishes significantly, but occurs occasionally (every couple minutes vs every 15 seconds or so).
I was inclined to blame Windows bookkeeping, but as mentioned above, the activity monitor points to LabVIEW. The problem occurs on multiple platforms (laptops) but is most pronounced on the newer dual-core system.

"I just reassigned the VI's execution priority to "normal" and the problem seems to have subsided. The priority was previously set to "above normal" ..."
That will expalin it if LV was doing a lot of number crunching of large data sets etc. Loops with "zero waits" will help.
LV use a concept called "Cooperative multi-Tasking" and harnesses the OS's services to provided that concept. The "Cooperative" part talks to the idea of porcesses making an efforts not to use all of the CPU without allowing other process to access the same. "Zero Waits" (zero constant wired to a wait ms) is one way that we can let LV know that tight number crunching loops can be interupted to handle other processes. The OS is involved because OS's like Windows will blindly assume that a thread that it schedules will willing give up the CPU after a while. If you don't have Zero-waits or you have heavy number crunching, the thread never releases the CPU. When you set the process to be above normal, LV and the OS did exactly what you said to do.
What exactly are you doing when LV uses all of the CPU?

  • Music plays at startup and at random times for 10 to 20 seconds at a time, how do I stop this?

When using Firefox music will start playing at random times, it only last 10 to 20 seconds then it quits. Then at random it will start playing while browsing or when at rest. this is very annoying and I need to figure how to turn this option off.

Only when i go to a different browser (like IE) after i clear it , then all that shows up is the pages i visited in IE , that is what bugs me , why is IE browsing history sowing up in Firefox ??
Basically , i can clear the history in Firefox , and then for a example , go to Craigslist , using IE7 (launching it from a complete different Icon , in other words at that time i never open Firefox) , then after closing out , or even leaving open as it does not seem to matter , i go into Firefox , and hit History , and there is every place i visited in IE7 , on my History in Firefox

  • Minor collection pauses for longer time (40 seconds to 3 minutes) - web app

We are facing a strange issue with our Application, it is running under jboss-4.0.2 with jdk1.5.0_07
It becomes unresponsive after 1/2 an hour load test and comes back to normal within 2 to 3 minutes. The following is a sample of the GC information when it says it takes around 48 seconds in minor collection. It also says JVM Process has not received any CPU time for 49 seconds. Extending timeouts. We have jvm settings like -Xms256m -Xmx2g .All other are default settings.
Is it due to lesser default young generation space (is it 64m max?) ?

I missed 1 thing , in the gc trace
    jvm 1 | [GC [DefNew: 22386K->1496K(23872K), 0.0121308 secs] 229932K->209042K(

it says 48.7297245 secs for collection of total heap, does it mean major collection was also run here?
If not then what can cause such a long pause during minor collection?
    Another point is
    Times: user=0.02 sys=0.00, real=48.73 secs
here user and sys time are very negligible while real time is so huge..what does this mean?
    Thanks & Regards,

  • HELP! iPod Shuffle Pauses for no reason!

Ive had my iPod shuffle around 6 months and around a week ago it randomly started pausing frequently half way through songs without my command. It just suddenly has outbursts of pausing and keeps pausing and as soon as I press play it pauses again until finally i give up and switch it off.
Ive tried updating it and charging it fully but no luck.
Anyone know whats wrong? Is the battery dying?
    Please Help.
    iPod Shuffle

It might be a dirty headphone socket. The iPod shuffle will enter pause if it detects that the headphone plug has been removed and I suspect that if the contacts becomes defective or dirty it could cause symptoms like you describe.
I'd try a series of rapid insertions and removals of the headphone plug to see if that might clean the switch or contacts. Also, I'm pretty certain that earlier versions of the shuffle firmware didn't have this headphone auto pause feature so if you could find a copy of the old firmware that might fix your problem.

  • Video iPod randomly pauses by itself

    Hey all
So this is a very frustrating problem...basically, by 30 GB video iPod pauses while playing randomly when I'm walking with it in my pocket and even when I have it connected to speakers. I already tried everything possible from my end and even sent it in to Apple, but upon return it still has the same issues. Any ideas people ?

  • IPod Randomly pauses music.

    Hey guys,
Some 2 years ago i bought an iPod nano 2nd generation, and it has always worked fine for me, until it recently started jumping to pause. At first it would occur once in every 15 minutes, but it has gotten worse, and now it sometimes instantly pauses when i press the play button. It is not because the hold button isn't working properly, because it does it when i just hold it in my hand, not touching anything. Has anyone got a suggestion why it does this, and how i can fix it?
    Thanks in advance,
    Frank

sorry about posting this as a reply to your question but I can't figure out how to post my own. I got an orange ipod nano (4th generation) this past christmas. I tried to turn on my ipod today and it simply showed a gray screen and whenever I try to reset it it goes back to the gray screen and beeps twice. I also tried restoring it but it did the same thing. I was wondering if anyone knew anything about this problem or how to fix it.

  • Staggering or pausing for less than a second

Every time I restart Firefox after 15-30m, it starts staggering or freezing every 3 seconds for a half second or so. For example, when I'm bringing down the drag down bar it pauses every 3 seconds or the same thing when I'm highlighting passages. It also affects videos and typing. I've tried reinstalling Firefox completely but the problem came back shortly. The other applications on my laptop aren't having this issue.

Hi j032, I'm not sure what changed. Some users have reported that Firefox 24 used a lot more memory when a lot of tabs were open (e.g., over 100). If you starting having this issue in Firefox 24, maybe it is related to overall memory usage?

  • 30GB Ipod Randomly Pauses

    Hi
I Recently got the 5th gen 30gb video ipod. Absolutely love it. I am running windows XP and all of the software installed, and all of the music and videos downloaded with no problems. However since day one it has randomaly paused during whatever song is playing and during any video playback. It has gone for hours with no problems and then it will start pausing. It will do it a few times and then work with no problems for 'X' amount of time. It happens when the hold button is switched as well. There is no obvious pattern or reason for it to pause. Has anybody else had this problem, and is there anything that can be done to fix it without sending it back? Any info is greatly appriciated. Cheers

If you're using 3rd party headphones, this problem will appear. But I got a small trick to bypass this system. Just press play and than plug your headphones in. If you remove the headphones the iPod won't stop playing
