Ipod Recognised by Windows XP but not iTunes

Why oh why does nobody have the brains to offer a decent solution to this.
I have read the same Sh*t again and again.
It is not helpling. Reset, reformat etc, drive letters, reinstalling e.t.c.
Same Problem Here!!!
This is rubbish,
We are all going round in circles like fish in a barrel.
The same solutions are getting muted again and again.
Being directed to the same set of lame attempts to solve the problem of our Ipods not beeing seen in iTunes.
My Ipod Nano has just been newly formated and tested on a computer with a fresh and raw un-networked version of Windows XP with the original disk that came with my iPod.
It can clearly bee seen by any XP computer I connect it to.
I can copy files on to it, remove files off of it.
Windows is displaying the correct amount of free space and it is drive I: on all computers I have tested it with Three computers: One laptop XP SP1, One Desktop XP SP2.2, One Desktop XP raw new install no SP.
I have used Ipod updater 2005-9-23 and 2006-6-29 and iTunes 5 and 6 on all computers and still no luck.
Oh why oh why soooo much bullsh**, I just wana listen to some music. Sob Sob........

  • IPod is recognized in Windows XP but not iTunes

I just had my iPod mini replaced. When i connected it to my computer, it said "New Hardware Found" and recognized the iPod as an iPod. However, when I went into iTunes, it wasn't there, and the iPod Software Updater is up-to-date and says, "no ipod connected."
Apple just replaced my last ipod for the same reason. This one is new and the same thing is happening.
Did this happen to anyone else? If so, how did you fix it?
    Thanks!

    Did you try these?

  • 7th Gen iPod Classic was unplugged during sync, now it pops up in Windows Explorer, but not iTunes. How can I fix this?

    Okay.
I have a Windows 7 x32 OS, and an 80gb Silver 7th Gen iPod Classic.
So, I bought an iPod used off of eBay and I recently decided that 80gb was a bit too much, so I was going to resell it on eBay and buy a smaller iPod.
While I was restoring it to set it back to factory settings, my computer shut off due to a power problem.
Now when I plug it in, I get a message from windows saying "You need to format the disk in drive :M before you can use it. Do you want to format it?"
It shows up in windows explorer as a Removable Disk, and it isn't being detected by iTunes. I plug it in the iPod says "Connected. Eject before disconnecting." with a symbol that it makes when it is syncing.
I've tried putting it in disk mode, and it still will not detect it.
Can somebody help me? I really don't want to be stuck with a broken iPod.
If anyone needs or wants any more information before they can advise, please feel free to tell me what you need to know and I will post it!
Thanks, and have a blessed day.

  • Third-generation iPod appears in "My Computer" but not iTunes

I am sure this problem has been brought up many times before, but my iPod is not showing up in my iTunes but does appear in my My Computer folder. I have tried the troubleshooting options available on the Apple support page and have done other web searches for some help but nothing to avail. Can anyone help me?

    hi haptic!
I had it all working fine until I formatted my pc. Now windows recognizes it but not iTunes or the updater, and I don't get any error message.
just checking. have you investigated these possibilities yet?

otherwise, try steadily working through this document (apologies if you've seen this one already, but there are things in this one that you didn't explicitly mention having tried.)

  • IPod connects to new PC, but not iTunes

I bought a new laptop (WIndows XP) a few days ago, but when I tried to connect my iPod it doesn't appear in the iTunes 'Sources' list. It appears in the 'My Computer' folder, and when I connect it to the computer iTunes opens!
I've had my iPod for over a year, and I know it works with my old PC, and am completely stumped on what to do.... please help!

I have exactly the same problem as Liam, except that it didn't suddenly start working. I bought my iPod a month ago and it was working fine until my computer crashed and i had to re-install itunes + ipod software. they work fine but iTunes can't connect to iPod, I can see it in my computer, so windows recognises it. i have tried all the suggested solutions to the problem on the trouble shooting guide but none have worked. I use an USB but not 2.0...Please help!!

  • Ipod works on Windows 2000 but not on XP

I have an empty Ipod click wheel unit . My Itunes library (about 1200 songs) is safely stored on cd's. I have Windows 2000 in the office and Windows XP at home. If I take the cd's and the Ipod to the office, I can get it to run perfectly. I restore the cd's to Itunes and upload them to my Ipod with no problems at all. When I bring the unit home, and plug it into my XP home system, it seems to have great difficulity recognizint the Ipod at all. The Ipod image pops on and off the my computer screen. If I fiddle with the Ipod for a while, just randomly selecting menu items, sometimes I can get it stabilized, at which point I get a message that it is sync ed to another computer. I try to resync it - sometimes it stays up and sometimes it drops out. If it stays on line, the Ipod sync window appears on the screen, and I get an immediate message "upload complete" from my empty Itunes library. I then load a cd to put something in the library to actually sync with, and it loads perhaps 10 or 15 items then I get a message "The Ipod - Patricia's Ipod can not be updated - The required file can not be found" It stops and nothing else will happen. I have tried different plugs, changing drive letter assignments, reloading firmware, complete restore, 5R's, everything I could find, but still I have no luck. My husband has a new Ipod video which operates perfectly with the same XP computer. So, why does it work perfectly with Windows 2000 and not at all with Windows XP?

Check your firewire connection and/or Windows firewire driver. This is done in Device Manager.

  • Ipod will connect to PC but not itunes

Hey, I'm having a problem with my fifth generation ipod(30gb). When I plug it in to put music on it, a message comes up and says,"The software required for communicating with the iPod is not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes to install the iPod's software." I have installed itunes 3 times and it has never helped with the problem. I also thought thought of updating my ipod or restoring it but im not able to because an "iPo service error" comes up when I start the updater. Please help.

  • IPod shows up in Finder but not itunes - Have already tried suggestions

    I have a 30gb ipod video & am using a Macbook
I wanted to get files off my ipod that werent in my itunes so I downloaded yamipod. This worked for a bit then stopped working so I deleted the program.
Now when i plug my ipod into my computer it shows up in finder and says 'do not disconnect' on screen but doesn't appear in itunes. I reset the ipod, re-downloaded itunes but no luck. I would have restored it but you can't do this if it won't show up in itunes (which makes no sense!)
So I plugged my ipod into my flatmates PC (using the same usb cable) and it showed up in their itunes just fine. Then it said that there was an update for my ipod, so i downloaded it. And it said there were faults or something on my ipod & it would fix them, so i clicked ok.
After these things it said my ipod would restart and should reappear in itunes. It restarted but now will not show up in their itunes.
Now when I plug my ipod into my mac again itunes jumps to the front of screen, as if it knows there is something there, but it just wont show up.
I have looked through all sorts of discussions & can't find the answer. Please help.

I'm having exactly the same problem with my 60GB 5G iPod Video. This happened "spontaneously" in that I did nothing I know of to affect my iPod's connection to my iTunes library. My iPhone still syncs fine with the same cable.

  • Yet Another Faulty iPod Classic - Connects to "computer" but not iTunes

In Oct 2009, I purchased 160GB Classic and is now out of warranty so unable to replace, and i am not too keen on buying another one (NZD $470 RRP).
It had been working as per normal until Dec 2010 when I tried to sync the iPod on newly updated iTunes (10.1) then it started to freeze during sync and now, it doesn't sync any longer. It is howing as "connected" on the iPod and in "My Computer", but doesn't show up in iTunes at all.
iTunes also freezes (doesn't work whatsoever) while my iPod is plugged in to my computer. I have tried everything that the "Apple" help sites suggest (the 5 "R's", formatting, disk mode etc) you name it, but to no avail.
Trying to fix this problem is becoming frustrating and time consuming. My wifes iPhone 4 works perfectly so I know it's not the computer or iTunes itself. As I (had) trust in Apple products, I would expect this to last for more than 15 months.
I have no idea how this all came to be, and would just like it to work as normal again. What a way for Apple to earn its' "money"...
PLEASE, if ANYONE can help here, it would be very much appreciated.

I purchased 4 x iPod Classic 160gb units between July 2008 and March 2009 (and a 120gb Classic with which we have not had a problem). One unit worked for one day and had to be returned and was replaced with a new unit. The other three all failed within the 12 month warranty period and were replaced by Apple. Of the four replacements, three have now failed about 15 months after they were replaced. Of course the units are outside warranty (in particular due to Apple only offering the greater of 3 months warranty or the remainder of the original warranty). The units haven’t been subjected to any forceful knocks and as demonstrated by the lack of physical marks on the units.
To have 7 out of 8 units fail in this timeframe is in my opinion indicative of a fundamental flaw in the build quality or design of the units. After putting my case to Apple Australia I finally received a reply confirming that the units were out of warranty and nothing could/would be done - but they did offer a "thank you gift" of a credit of up to $125 at the Apple Store if I spent at least $425.
I replied that this wasn’t satisfactory but took up the credit whilst it was offered to at least get some discount off a new 160gb Classic (more reliable I am led to believe!). I am now out of pocket over $770 with replacement three units and still have one remaining unit that could die at any time.
Apple is no longer replying to my emails. If anyone with similar experiences would like to join together to put pressure on Apple to make good, or pursue other actions via consumer affairs, please reply on this forum.

  • My iPod classic is recognised by the computer but not iTunes

iTunes does recognise it when I disconnect it though, as then a message appears saying it cannot be synced as the required file cannot be found. Working my way through the troubleshooting steps but no joy so far. I'm beginning to suspect that there is a problem with the iPod itself as I get the same message on different computers and using different cables. Any helpful ideas would be gratefully received!

  • IPod nano (5th gen.) being recognized by computer (Windows XP) but not iTunes. Please Help.

    Hello everyone,
When I plug in my iPod nano 5th generation, my computer is recognizing it, but iTunes is not. I just recently bought it off of a friend and it was working perfectly. Today is the first time that it wouldn't connect to iTunes. I have tried using different USB ports and that didn't work. I plugged in my sister's iPod Touch and it worked fine. I don't want to have to try to uninstall/reinstall iTunes for fear of loosing some of the information on there. I have also read several things that say that that doesn't work, so I don't see any reason to take a pointless risk. If there is anything that I can do to get it to work? I would try another computer, but my home computer is the only one that I have. I really need to get it to work ASAP. PLEASE HELP!!

If you check other error problems linked to this issue (example errors 1437 and 1439), you will note that these recognition issues have been prevalent for a lot of iPods (not only nanos and suffles) since iTunes version 7.5 went away. Seems like Apple doesn't have a clue, and doesn't want to have a clue. Many people all over the world have come up with things that have worked for them, but none of those fixes are working for me any more. Maybe this is just Apple's way of forcing people to buy their brand computers. It stinks. I am at a total loss as to what to do to get my Nano recognized at all in iTunes, and my Shuffles to sync. Obviously we are all venting our frustrations on an Apple hosted discussion board. Equally obvious is that no one at Apple is reading this stuff, further displaying that Apple simply does NOT CARE.
If I ever in the next couple of years or so (see, I am not very optimistic) get an HONEST answer out of Apple, or a workable solution elsewhere around the internet, I'll do a follow-up post here. But, I am not very hopeful. I think my iPods have just become expensive chunks of junk, because I am NOT going to buy an Apple computer just for them.

  • IPod Touch is being detected by Windows Vista but not iTunes

After updating iTunes to 9.0.1 my iPod Touch is being detected as a camera by my Windows Vista computer, but iTunes is unable to detect my iPod.

I have the same issue here. Please help...

  • Same thing as others...Nano is recognized by Windows..but not Itunes

Clean install of windows (just replaced harddrive, mobo, ram, vidcard, powersupply etc). Installed itunes after everything else was done...and low and behold..it somehow remembered my podcasts (i'm assuming from my music library)...but itunes won't see my nano, nor will the ipod updater. I've spent the past 2 days going over the web and trying every fix (the 5r's, formatting the ipod, resetting the ipod, new usb ports, etc
Windows does see the device so I know USB is working and the cord is fine, This ipod is barely a month old (father's day gift), i can't even restore the nano since ipod updater won't see it (have the 6-28 one). I also tried resetting the nano..then hold select and play while the apple logo was up..but nothing happened.
    Help please!

Ok...I did that to the Ipod, updated and restored. Then I removed itunes. Rebooted. changed all my drives (have 3) except for my main windows drive...rebooted again.
Then as soon as it came up and I plugged my ipod in...itunes went through the initial setup info for my ipod. Problem solved.
By changing drive names it forced Itunes to not rely on any old info sitting in the registry.
Kinda sloppy I know..but it worked.
