Ipod shuffle 2 nd gen itunes 9 ipod not recognised (windows 7 64 bit OS)

Hi
I see that others are having issue. My problem is that I have windows 7 ultimate installed (64 bit) along with itunes 9 (64 version) . When i plug in my ipod shuffle 2nd gen 1gb I get the following message " the software required for communicating with ipod and mobile phones is not installed properly. Do you want Itunes to repair this for you?'
Say yes reboot - same error message .Connect ipod not recognised.
Have reinstalled itunes 9
Have also uninstalled itunes and reinstalled
gone to portable devices under device manager to update drivers still issues
Is anyone getting the same error message and is there a solution
really frustrating !!!

I'm having the same kind of problem and haved tried pretty much everything my self. We have two computers. One with Vista and the other with XP pro. We have three iPods.
80g video, Touch first generation and touch second generation. Everything works fine with the first two, but windows cannot find the driver for the 2nd generation touch. Altough all drivers seem to be installed. The problem started with the Vista computer. I've uninstalled and re-installed everything and nothing works. Took everything on the XP computer, and the 2nd generation touch is still not recognized.
Of course I-tunes is up to date and all drivers as well.

Mine is not recognized by PC-Windows, nor Itunes, and not by the "Mass Storage Device" removal Icon.  I've done all the diagnostic tests, Uninstalled Itunes then reinstalling, etc.etc to no avail. Yet never had a problem with old generation Ipod, (died of old age) and Gloria's Ipod after two plus years is going strong with never an issue.  I belive Apple is having significant problems with the 3/8 inch shorter newest Ipod generation.  If your Ipod is still under warranty you need to call Apple support.

  • Ipod Shuffle - 2 Gen, 1 GB - not sync all songs and blank autoplay menu

    Hi,
I have two issues with my ipod shuffle, 2 Gen, 1 GB.
When I attach it to my computer a blank autoplay menu pops up. Nothing can be selected and I just click cancel and it goes away but it comes up every time I connect. I've tried going into the properties of it in my computer and setting the default action to do nothing but it still comes up. I've also disabled disk use within the settings of it in iTunes but it still happens.
Second when I try to autofill from a playlist, it shows all the songs ready to be synced but after doing about 11, it stops and says it's completed when it clearly hasn't. If I press sync again it does a few more then same result. It just won't fill the ipod up. I've double checked there's room on there and I have set zero space for disk use so the entire 1 GB is used for music but it still won't do a complete fill in one go.
Anyone got any ideas? Using latest version of ipod software 1.0.4 and latest version of iTunes 10.1.0.54

My iPod Shuffle 2nd Gen (latest firmware + iTunes) is
almost only playing purchased .m4p songs. Only very
few (1-2 out of 200) of .m4a are playing on the
    shuffle.
The songs are getting transfered properly and when
the shuffle is connected I can play the
songs/.m4a-files stored on the shuffle through Real
Player (The folder structure is accessible through
the FileExplorer while the upload process is
    running).
If I only upload not playable .m4a songs the shuffle
    blinks "no music uploaded".
Looks like a firmware problem of the Shuffle since I
can't see any pattern which .m4a songs are played and
    which not.
Can anyone share this experience? Any solution?
WHAT does iTunes' Get Info "Summary" say about the songs that don't play?

  • IPod shuffle 2nd gen. Dock not being picked up!

    Hi guys,
Bit of info to start. I have a 2nd gen iPod shuffle. Im using Windows XP. About a month ago I was charging my shuffle, when I pulled the shuffle of the dock the pin pulled up as well. After a few calls I was told by some apple repair place that because of where the pin had separated I wasn’t covered under the warranty and I had to buy a new one. I was annoyed but fine ok I went and bought a new dock. It was working fine but now when I plug it in nothing…
The first time it happened the computer came up with unrecognized device in USB port and wouldn’t take it. I was on my way out so shut down. When I came back to it again fired up the PC I plugged in the dock and nothing. It wont pick it up it doesn’t show in iTunes either and its not charging.
It’s a new dock so I don’t think it’s that. I’ve tried other USB ports that I know work and nothing. I’ve done the 5 r’s on the apple websites and I’ve updated iTunes to the newest version. Widows is updated as well. Not sure if it’s related but when I was opening iTunes with the older version it was asking me to update so I accepted clicked to install one item accepted the license and it just took me back to the screen asking me to install again in the end I downloaded the update from the apple site. Also when I had iTunes on if I tried to open a game the computer screen went blank. I could hear the music playing through iTunes but it slowed right down and 9 times out 10 I had to shut down the PC (not checked if that still happens now I’ve updated).
Think that covers everything. I’ve updated and run anti virus checks. Im not overly tech savvy just so you know. Any help would be great.
    Cheers

    Almost same problem.
Using ipod shuffle, previously I have charged it on the same laptop, and have added songs using itunes.
    Now,
Yesterday I was listening the songs, suddenly it stopped, so obvious deduction, not charged.
when I connect my dock to laptop and place my ipod on it.
ipod blinks for 3-4 times in orange light, its not getting detected. by the same laptop. Once I received Error recognizing USB device, some sort of error related to unrecognized usb something.
Please help, I can't live without songs.

  • Ipod Shuffle 2nd Gen Recognized but not Charging on new Computer

I have a 2nd generation ipod shuffle that has worked on previous computers. I have recently switched computers, uploaded itunes, transferred music, and imported playlists. I am able to connect my ipod shuffle to my new computer, recognize it, and add/switch/sync music. BUT after syncing, it doesn't charge anymore: the light goes from blinking orange to no light at all. When I plug it back into my old computer (or another computer), it charges (and works in general) without a problem.
I've tried resetting my ipod, using a different USB port, restarting my computer, uninstalling and reinstalling itunes, and even restoring my ipod completely. It still doesn't charge... any ideas???

Since it works on your old computer, the shuffle seems to be fine.  If you are using the same USB docking cable with both computer, the docking cable seems to be fine.
The shuffle seems to connect and sync properly on your new computer, so I don't think it's a software-related problem with your computer.
The only remaining cause is the USB port on the computer.  It's possible it is not providing sufficient power to charge the shuffle's battery.  If this is a laptop, maybe there is a power-saving feature that reduces power to a USB port when a connected storage device is no longer mounted.  A shuffle is a USB storage device, and iTunes unmounts the shuffle's disk after it completes syncing.  I would look for a setting in your computer's Control Panels that may be related to such a feature.
Also, you can try setting the shuffle to Enable disk use.  This setting (a checkbox) is on the shuffle's Settings screen in iTunes.  When disk use is enabled, iTunes keeps the shuffle's disk mounted (the shuffle's light continues to blink orange after syncing is done), to give Windows access to the shuffle's disk.  If my "theory" is connect, the USB port should then continue to have full power and the shuffle's battery should charge.
NOTE:  With disk use enabled, you need to eject the shuffle in iTunes before physically disconnecting.  After ejecting (clicking the small button to the right of the shuffle's name), you should see the shuffle's light become a solid color (green if fully charged), which means you can safely disconnect it.

  • HT1351 I'hve got ipod shuffle 3rd gen & i am not able to sync dat to my laptop it says, " The required file can not be found"

I have tried " Authorize this computer", " Sign in to istore"
    none of these is hapening..
    plaese help me out.

I have the exact same problem with my 1GB Nano. I've looked all over the internet at forums and such for the answer. Lots of the same problem, no solution. What's extremely strange is that I added 5 photos earlier after fiddling with it for about 30 minutes. When I took those photos out of the specified folder on my PC to add 3 new ones, Itunes wouldn't add the new photos. The new photos actually take up less space than the old ones did. I've messed with deleting the photo cache on both the Ipod and my PC specified folder with no luck. It still says there's not enough room on my Ipod, when in fact there is 70MB of free unused space according to both the Ipod and Itunes. So far none of the synching sites were any help. Once in a blue moon, I change some setting somewhere, update, eject the Ipod, and the photos appear on the Ipod. I plug it back in and Itunes agrees that the photos have transferred. I just don't understand it.

  • How to Play Overdrive Media Books on an iPod Shuffle 4th Gen

    Hi,
Many libraries use Overdrive Media to manage audio books in various formats.  Once you have downloaded the book to the Overdrive Media Console on your computer, you can then choose to transfer it to a device (such as an iPod or other mp3 player).  When transferring WMA files with an iPod shuffle 4th Gen (I'm not sure about other gens) this creates a number of files with bizzare titles.  When you go to the book section on the iPod it will play the first section and then it will just continually loop and you never go on to the next section.  After working with this for a while I've figured out how to make this work.  This is not what I consider a satisfactory solution but more of a work-around.  I hope that Apple will produce a fix that will remedy this situation as a lot of people download audio books from the library.
    1.  When you transfer WMA audiobook content to your iPod, Overdrive Media does it via iTunes.  I believe it usese iTunes to perform a file conversion.  Once the conversion is complete, it transfers the converted file to your shuffle.  If you watch this occur, you will notice that while it is converting the file, it assigns it a strange number like 10347.  As each part of the book is transferred, write down its number.  You have to catch it during the conversion as once the part is converted it reverts to its title (something like "Where the Red Fern Grows Part 01").  But that title is never transferred to the iPod.  It retains the strange number.
    2.  You will notice that as each file is converted, the number goes up.  So as you write them down, they will look like 10347, 11671, 12003, 12865... etc.  I have no idea what these numbers mean but they become your section titles on the audio when the Voiceover button is pressed.  One other thing, sometimes the numbers restart like so:  18567, 19325, 345, 907... Again, not sure why but you must keep the order they were converted and transferred as this is the order in which you'll want to play them back.
    3.  Now you will have a list of numbers indicating the different parts of the book.  Turn on your iPod and use the Skip Forward button to until you hear the book start.  Listen to the fist section until you hear it start to repeat.  There will be no pause or anything so sometimes it is hard to pick up where the part ended.  Once the part has ended, hold the Voiceover button and listen to the strange number.  Next press the Skip Back button and listen to the other strange numbers which will be in order, last-to-first.  When you get to the number indicating the next part, press the Play button and you will now be on the next part.
NOTE: if you press the play button on the wrong part (strange number), it will shuffle that part to the end of the playlist.  But if you have the part numbers written down in order this won't be a problem.  Also, if you hit the forward skip or backwards skip while playing a part, it will skip to some place in that part.  You can get back to your original spot by skipping again a few times more in the same direction.
    EXAMPLE:
Let's say you are transferring a 4 part book to the iPod.  During this transfer you note the strange numbers during conversion like so:
    Part 1 = 11278
    Part 2 = 11942
    Part 3 = 12512
    Part 4 = 13398
Now your book is on the Shuffle.  Turn on the Shuffle and listen for the start of the book.  If it is playing something else like music or a podcast, press the Skip Forward button until you hear the audiobook begin.  This is usually accompanied by music and has the title of the book, etc.  At this point you can press and hold the Voiceover button and you will hear "11278" pronounced.  Release the Voiceover button and let this part of the book play to the end.
You will then at some point hear that part of the book start over.  Press and hold the Voiceover button and start using the Skip Back button.  You will hear in this order: "11278, 13398, 12512, 11942".  When you hear "11942" press the Play button and Part 2 of the book will begin.  Continue this process for each part until you reach the end of the book.
I've listened to several books using this method and it has worked fine.  It is sort of fiddly and you have to do some things that I think iTunes or the Shuffle should do but until Apple does something about this, it is the only way that it will work that I've been able to find.

It sounds like the Windows Media security update in Para x, below, may not have been done and your music setting may have been on Repeat.  As a review, here is a list of steps that may help clear the problems up.
Many libraries worldwide now use Overdrive Media Console, which comes in Mac an Windows versions http://www.overdrive.com/Software/omc .  Some find the mobile device transfer process confusing.  To load or delete a WMA or MP3 (Macs can only download MP3 books) audiobook onto an Apple mobile device see the "How to Transfer to a Portable Device" video in the guides at Step 7, then do the following.
    1. For Windows versions, you must first do a security update of Windows Media Player (even though you won't be using it) using Internet Explorer at http://drmlicense.one.microsoft.com/indivsite .
    2.  Open iTunes, plug the mobile device into the computer USB port and open the Overdrive Media Console.
    3. Highlight the mobile device in the left hand menu of iTunes and insure the "Manually manage music and videos" box is checked in the Summary Tab. If the mobile device storage is full, transfering will delete that portion of music necessary for the ebook.
    4. Highlight the book you want to transfer in the Overdrive Media Console and click the Transfer Button.   A window opens permitting you to click the boxes for parts of the book you wish to transfer.
    5. After the book has been transfered, when you click the disclosure triangle (arrow) to the left of the iPod, iPhone, or iPad in the Device section of the left hand menu of iTunes, MP3 books will show up under the Music subsection and WMA books will show up in the Books subsection.  Once the mobile device is disconnected from iTunes, MP3 books will show up in the Songs list of the mobile device and WMA books will show up in the Books list.
    6. To remove a book from a mobile device plug the device into the USB port and open iTunes. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of your iPod, iPhone, or iPad in the Device section of the left hand menu of iTunes so that you can see the device’s subcontents. For an MP3 book select the Music subsection, right click on the book and choose Delete.  For a WMA book, select the Book subsection, right click on the book and choose Delete.
    7. The Overdrive Media Console Guided Tour (videos) is at http://www.overdrive.com/Solutions/Libraries/tour/MenuWelcome.html .  The "Portable Devices" and "How to Transfer to a Portable Device" videos are there.
    8. To find a nearby library for ebooks search http://search.overdrive.com .  You can download the software, search for books and see tutorials without an account at the website of any library that uses Overdrive, however, you need a library card to download books.  At this library site, for example, the software and guided tour are at the bottom of the left hand menu.

  • My ipod Shuffle Gen 2 is not recognised by itunes AND computer...!!

Hi my ipod shuffle 2nd gen is not being recognised by my computer. I have installed the new itunes and it does not recognise it either.
However it does a little flash thing with the lights when i ccnnect it, but then they turn off. I know that this means it needs restoring. But how can i restore it if the computer doesnt recognise it??
    thanks!

I'm also having the same problem with my 2nd gen iPod Shuffle. iTunes on my Mac does not recognize it and will not sync with it. Occasionally, iTunes will recognize it but then when I try to sync it, iTunes then does not recognize it.
Interestingly, when I hook this Shuffle up to iTunes on my Windows machine, it does recognize it and will sync up.
What might be the problem here and how can it be corrected? If anyone has any thoughts/solutions, please let us know.
    Thanks...

    Hi All,
I have HP Laptop with .... Windows 8.1 / 4gb RAM / Intel i3 / 64-bit, i am trying to connect my Ipod shuffle  (2nd gen) to laptop but its failed in Itunes (i got updated one) as well as in Windows..
at the same time, the same ipod i can connect and use at windows XP computer.
is anyone there to help me out.
    Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately, I use a Mac; I'm not a day-to-day Windows user...  When you connect your USB flash drive, it should appear as a device in a Windows view, like the one you provided as a screenshot.  When you connect your shuffle, if things are working normally, the shuffle should similarly appears as a device.  Whether it is recognized as an iPod or not, it should appear as a device.  If it does not, that means the USB (3.0) port (on your laptop) does not see that you have connected the shuffle.  If it does (appear in Windows), that's good news.  You may be able to trouble-shoot and fix the problem, using this document
iPod: Appears in Windows but not in iTunes - Apple Support
I suggested trying a self-powered USB 2.0 hub (if you have one), because the hub should be recognized as a device by Windows.  In the screenshot, it looks like there are two hubs already connected ("Generic USB Hub"), unless that is something internal that is identified as a "hub."  If a hub is older and works with the shuffle, then your laptop may be able to connect to the shuffle through the hub.
Here are two other things you can try.
    (1) You said the shuffle still works with your older PC.  Connect it to iTunes on that computer, and go to the shuffle's Settings screen (select shuffle in iTunes).  There is a checkbox for Enable disk use.  Check that box and Apply.  With this setting enabled, the shuffle acts like a USB flash drive (to Windows).  Maybe that will let Windows see it, and then iTunes will also see it (as an iPod).  NOTE:  When disk use is enabled, you need to Eject the iPod in iTunes before physically disconnecting it, because the iPod's disk is continuously mounted by the system.
    (2) If the above does not help, connect it to iTunes on the older PC, and do a Restore on the shuffle.  This will erase the iPod, reinstall its software, and set it to default settings.
Restoring iPod to factory settings - Apple Support
It's a long shot, but maybe there is some kind of odd data corruption on the shuffle's storage that is causing the laptop to not see it (even though the old PC can see it fine).  After doing the Restore on the older PC, connect it to the laptop.

  • IPod Shuffle 2nd gen not recognized by iTunes anymore

I have had this ipod shuffle 2nd gen for almost a year. I am unable to recharge it. iTunes does not see it anymore. What do I do?

Does it show in Apple System Profiler's USB tree? Have you tried connecting it (through its dock) to another computer?

  • IPod Shuffle (2nd gen) and iTunes 8.1.1.10 not synching...

My iPod Shuffle 2nd Gen seems to be unable to sync with iTunes 8.1.1.10 -- in a way. It is recognized in iTunes (shows up in sidebar, correctly labeled; I can view its content) and it will charge and autofill. However, it will not sync with iTunes and communicate playcounts or show me in any way that the autofill is occurring or has occurred.
I have used the "Restore" function and it did not correct the problem. Additionally, when I try to File>Sync iPod, the option is unavailable (not a clickable button/option). I really would like to be able to sync my playcounts again...
    Thank you!

Are you using iTunes for Windows to sync your 1G and 2G iPods? Reading through the forums, I've only seen this issue come up on Windows machines.
As I stated in my message above, the new release 8.2.0.23 has not resolved the issue. I've actually reloaded my computer completely at this point and the issue still exists. I've confirmed that the problem is not the iPod, as I was able to successfully erase and sync using a Windows XP machine and iTunes 7.4 then move music on to the iPod. When I went back to my primary machine, I did an erase and sync, but was unable to move any music on to the iPod. The iPod Shuffle 2nd Gen will show up in iTunes, but if you try to drag songs to the iPod, autofill or apply a change of setting, iTunes will state that it is "Syncing iPod. Do not disconnect." It will stay in this mode for 2-3 minutes and iTunes will be unresponsive during this time. Once iTunes starts responding again, nothing has been copied to the iPod and none of the settings changes have been saved on the iPod.
Please note that my 60GB iPod Video syncs without issue (and no, I'm not trying to sync both at the same time).
