IPod shuffle does not recognized by iTunes after restore

Hello
I have a iPod shuffle (4th gen) and a windows laptop.
After restoring my iPod shuffle (as directed by iTunes), iTunes does not recognized my iPod anymore.
The data in the iPod has been deleted (ie return to the factory settings), but iTunes does not proceed to prompt me to name my iPod and set up sync options etc, it simply does nothing and does not recognize my iPod.
I went on My Computer, and reformatted the iPod shuffle again. As a result of the reformatting, iTunes recognizes my iPod but it requires me to restore my iPod back to factory settings again. It became a cycle of either recognizing the iPod but asking me to restore it; or does not recognize my iPod after restoration.
Please kindly assist me with this situation as it is rather frustrating.
iTunes is in the latest version as I have attempted the trouble shooting support on the webpage.
Many thanks.

Hi priscillayeung,
If you are having issues with your iPod being recognized by your Windows computer but not by iTunes (or being recognized but requiring a restore, which then causes it to not be recognized again), you may find the troubleshooting steps outlined in the following article helpful:

  • IPod Touch 5 not recognized by iTunes after Win 8 install

The heading pretty much says it all.   Can anyone help?   Ever since Windows 8 Pro install I have not been able to connect my iPod Touch 5th gen to iTunes.
I never had this problem with windows 7.
    - I connect my iPodTouch by cable to the USB
    - The computer recognizes the iPod TOuch
    - I can access the iPod Touch from My Computer
    - iTunes does not recognize it.  It doesn't pull it up as a device. All other iTunes servies work fine.
    I have...
    1. The most up to date version of iTunes.
    2. Restarted my computer multiple times.
    3. Powered down, reset, my iPod Touch multiple times.
    4. I have downloaded all computer updates recommend from my manufacturer (Asus) for Windows 8 Pro compatability

If you  have iTunes 11 turn on the Sidebar. Go to iTunes>View and click on Show Sidebar. You can also do a Crtl+S to show the sidebar and Control+B to show the Menu bar
    Then see:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
I would try the following first
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7

  • IPOD shuffle does not show in itunes

New IPOD shuffle nver showed up in itunes
    Installed itunes again, no way

Did this work before on this computer, and it is not working now for some reason?  Or is this the first time you are using it with this computer?
Make sure the plug on the USB docking cable is completely inserted into the headphones jack, as shown in this document

If that's not the problem, watch the shuffle's light as you connect it to USB.  Does it come ON?  If it does, what does it do?

  • Brand new iPod Shuffle is not recognized by iTunes and Win XP Laptop

I have iPod nano and iTunes 7. Just got a brand new iPod Shuffle (2nd Gen). Neither iTunes nor my laptom recognize the iPod Shuffle - it is not even getting charged. I tried all the tips from the offical support, but nothing works.
Should I just throw it away and get a new one or is there a way to make it work?

Why would you throw it away if it is in warranty? Why not exchange it?

  • 2nd Gen iPod shuffle is not recognized by iTunes or computer

I read the other posts about people's 2nd Gen Ipod shuffles not being rcognized by iTunes or their computer, but none of them seemed to fit.
I have had my iPod shuffle for less than a week. Last time I had my iPod connected to iTunes in the "Settings" section I clicked "Do not automatically open iTunes and synch with iPod" or something along those lines. I assumed this meant iTunes wouldn't always open when I plugged it in to charge it.
However, now when I plug it into my computer, iTunes does not recognize it and I get a message from my computer that there is a "USB Device Not Recognized" and the error message reads: "One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned and Windows does not recognize it." It shows up as an "Unrecognized Device". I have tried plugging it into a different USB port, and I have also downloaded the "Ipod Reset Utility" to try to reset it to it's factory settings, in case that would allow it to synch up with iTunes again. This does not work. Does anyone know why this is happening, or how I can get iTunes to recognize my iPod again? Thank you!

Brand new ipod shuffle (2nd gen). When I plug it into the USB port, a "Disk Insertion" prompt warning appears with the message "The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer." The two options in the prompt window are 'Eject' or 'Ignore.'
Having read other message boards, I decided to plug it into a PC computer and re-formatted it with FAT 32 filing system, but the exact same thing still happens. My MacBook give me the same message when I plug the shuffle to the computer. iTunes does not recognize it that anything is plugged in either.
    Any suggestions?

  • Ipod shuffle does not connect to itunes anymore

    Hi
I am having trouble getting my Ipod Shuffle 4th Generation to show as a device in Itunes. I think this has been the case since I undertook recent upgrades. I have followed the trouble shooting assistant and have had no luck. Suggestions appreciated.

    That's for iOS devices...

  • IPod Touch is not recognized in iTunes after Snow Leopard install

Another post says that the solution is to install iPhone/iPod Touch SDK update under Software Update. I did this and am still having no luck. I have a 1st Gen iPod Touch and when I connect it to my MacBook, it doesn't show the syncing screen on my iPod, nor does it register under devices on my iTunes. Any ideas on how to fix this problem? When I installed Snow Leopard I did a clean install and restored my computer from Time Machine. So, a problem may be that it doesn't think my iPod is registered under this computer. Is there anyway I can check and see if that is the problem?

Your post solved the same problem for me. Thank you so much! And thanks to JaketheSnake for starting this thread. iTunes used to start up automatically whenever I connected my iPod Touch, but a couple of months ago it quit doing that. I didn't think much of it as I just clicked on iTunes in the dock and opened it and went on my merry way. I just figured something in the last iTunes update changed it's behavior. But lately I noticed that my iPod Touch would be in the source list while it was syncing and then it would sometimes just disappear. I was too lazy to start a thread, I guess, because I just thought someone would tell me to "restore" my iPT and I had gotten used to my little "work arounds". But now it's fixed, thanks to both of you.

  • Ipod shuffle, 4th, not recognized by itunes.

When I connect ipod to computer, a troubleshoot/fix error window pops up. Also states it could be missing a file. I checked my device, and it says it is okay. I have another ipod that I tried, and itunes won't list that under devices either. I can't tell you how many hours I have spent working on this. Help.

Tried that as well as updated everything else I could think of and still no ipod under devices. Also purchased software and cleaned up registry as well as any other errors on computer

  • IPod touch will NOT mount in iTunes after restore on a different mac

My touch was stuck in recovery mode and my ibook just wouldn't finish restoring it...always ended with an error and the cycle just kept going.
I took it to my girlfriend's house and restored it on her macbook (running tiger as well). It works fine, but now I want to sync it with my mac and get the january software update, so i plug it into my ibook and it's simply not showing up in itunes. it begins to charge just fine, but it won't mount to sync.
    I have tried:
    Re-installing itunes
re-installing the apple mobile device package.
    Re-booting the mac
    re-booting the ipod
    using a different USB cable
    using a different USB port
none of it has helped. it just continues to charge, but not be recognized. any help would be appreciated.

Do you have Leopard? I have the Ipod touch 8gb with the software update i just upgrade to leopard yesterday and plug in my ipod it charged but that was it. So i found here several people reinstalled Itunes due to Apple installer that was like uninstalled during leopard so i reinstalled Itunes and it works perfect now Hope it does the same for you.

  • TS1363 1st generation iPod shuffle does not show up in iTunes (windows 7)?

1st generation iPod shuffle does not show up in iTunes on my Windows 7 PC (but shows up in my computer).  Tried all the Apple trouble-shooting steps (some several times).  It used to work with Windows 7 on this PC.  Are there other steps I can try?

I'm not sure what "all" means, unless you state them, so if you have not done so already, you should use this procedure to reset the iPod shuffle
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1655
Then, shut down your computer (power off) and start it up, with iPod shuffle NOT connected.  Run iTunes.  Then, try connecting the iPod shuffle again.
Since this is a first gen iPod shuffle that IS recognized by the computer (so it's probably not a bad USB connector), you can also try using the iPod Reset Utility
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1238
This is for the first and second gen iPod shuffle only, and does a lower level reset than using a normal Restore in iTunes.

  • IPod is not recognized in ITunes after upgrade to 7.3.1

Please help. I upgraded ITunes to the 7.3.1 version and now my IPod is not recognized in my ITunes. The USB port is working since my IPod recharged when I plugged it into the computer. I uninstalled & then reinstalled ITunes, but, my IPod is still not recognized by ITunes or my computer. I cannot find it listed in "my computer" files.
Any suggestions as to what happened? Thanks.

  • I recently upgraded to iTunes 11.1.5 and now my iPod Nano is not recognized in iTunes. I also upgraded my iPhone 5s to iOS 7.1. i Tunes on my computer does recognize my iPhone. What is the problem with my iPod Nano not being recognized?

I recently upgraded to iTunes 11.1.5 and now my iPod Nano is not recognized in iTunes. I also upgraded my iPhone 5s to iOS 7.1. i Tunes on my computer does recognize my iPhone. What is the problem with my iPod Nano not being recognized?

I would think, Twins1995, that if we are having the problem, others are as well. Hopefully, Apple will shortly issue a follow-up software release to fix the problem. Or is that just wishful thinking on my part.
It would be helpful, if there were some kind of work-around in the interim, so we can use our devices. Pretty frustrating when you consider that all of the hardware and software is produced by Apple.

  • IPod Touch not recognized by iTunes after a Reset?

My iPod Touch is not recognized by iTunes.  This has nothing to do with the new OS update.  2 months ago I was having lots of problems and decided to use the reset since it was not showing up on iTunes to do the Restore.  Since then I was able to get all of my apps back but cannot get anything off the computer like my songs.  When I plug it in anywhere the battery life screen does not come one (dark) and the little sound it makes (silent) is absent as well.  Any ideas anyone?

Your USB 2.0 cable might be broken. You might need to buy another. Heres some links:

The one from amazon is around $12 cheaper. But if you want the new Apple Cable, here it is.

  • IPOD touch not recognized by itunes after reinstalling OS because of crash

My IPOD Touch isn't recognized by ITUNES after the OS got reinstalled. I hook it up and ITunes doesn't respond, it's like it isn't even connected.
I've restarted both devices (nothing), I've tried both USB ports (they're fine), nothing. Any suggestions?

You might need to remove and reinstall the Apple Mobile Device Service. Check out this article:
