IPod Touch 3G unresponsive when not charging

When i plug my ipod touch 3g into my computer or my charger, i can use the touch screen, home buttons, volume controls, and launch apps fine. When i unplug it, all of the buttons and the touch screen become unresponsive. If i touch on an app while it is unplugged and then plug it in, the app will open as soon as it is plugged in. If i hit the lock button then plug it in, the ipod will lock then instantly unlock.
Ive tried restoring several times, started as new ipod, restored from backup, reset all settings, deleted all data, the whole shabang. I got the ipod today and it was doing this out of the box. Firmware is 3.1.1

Yes, the battery charges when it is plugged in and i tried letting it completely charge, go dead, then charge again and it still doesnt work.
I mainly posted it here because i really dont want to have to return it. I ordered it from the apple store online and the closest retail store is almost 200miles away . But its not lookin like i have much of a choice.

  • My iPod touch 5th gen is not charging. I have tried different cords and plugs too. When I press the power button it just has the charging symbol with a red line in it but it isn't charging at all. Won't connect to iTunes either.

I tried recover mode twice and it did nothing. The 15 day warranty is already up and I'm just wondering if I need to replace the battery at all? Also, before it stopped charging, it would turn off for no reason and the only way to turn it back on was to plug it into a charger and then it would turn right back on and have the same amount of battery that it had when it turned off... Is it the battery I need to replace??

  • My ipod touch 5th gen will not charge when connected to pc. works when plugged into wall

I just got my 5th gen ipod today, and when i plug it into my pc (and my roommate's) they make the sound as if something is connected, but my ipod does not charge. When I plug it into my wall charger, it works fine. I've tried multiple cables, and multiple PCs, but it makes no difference. The weirdest thing though, is when I restart my computer, when it is about to close windows, it starts charging for a few seconds, then turns back off. This is so confusing. Any ideas?

Sounds like the computer's USB ports do not provide enough current to charge the iPod when the screen is on. I would connect a partially discharged iPod to the computer for a couple of hours and see it it is charged.

  • My computer will not recognize my ipod touch 4g and will not charge it.

A short while ago, my computer simply stopped recognizing my iPod touch 32gb 4g. When I plug it in to any USB port, nothing happens. Same if I try to plug my iPod into an adapter. I have tried everything both apple and the previous discussions have covered. I've uninstalled everything pertaining to apple or iTunes and reinstalled it. I've tried going into revoery mode, I've even tried running an independant driver without iTunes. The funny thing is, if I go into settings-general-reset-erase content and settings, the iPod will charge, but it won't reset. I figured that out by accident trying to wipe my iPod to reset it. Any ideas? Please help, I'd rather not have to spend another $300 for another iPod. Another note, my iTunes will find the iPod over WiFi. I don't know if that helps any.

  • IPod Touch 4th gen will not charge, or sync to iTunes

Hello, I have a 2 year old iPod 4th gen 32 gb.  About a week ago a realized that when a charged it the charging screen did not appear.  I made no big deal about it since it still charged, but then I tried to connect it to my cpu to see if anything changed, nothing did (it also cannot connect to iTunes to my cpu but can connect to the app just fine).  So I went on with it but recently it stopped charging all together.  I'd power it down at night and turn it on in the morning and didn't charge at all past 20% So I powered it down and this image came up.Yes, I have seen this image before but when I plugged it in and got the  charging screen after it died.  But now it cannot get past this screen I left it plugged in all day and it doesn't do anything else.  I can reset it after 10 minutes to wake it up but it dies again almost right away now normally i would just toss this away, since how old it is but I'm getting an iPhone soon and I want to be able to transfer everything over, to the iPhone but it keeps dying before i can do anything.  And I would like to fix it so I could sell it for some cash.
