IPod touch 3rd Gen. will not show up iTunes or My Computer

I have reinstalled iTunes, I have tried recovory mode, I have the latest model, I've tried using other USB ports, I've done just about anything I can. I have had this iPod for like 3 years and have never had an issue. Now all the sudden it will not connect to the computer or show up in itunes. It does charge in a wall charger though. How do i fix this?

Hi
I have posted just recently with a similar problem [although I suspect you are using Windows rather than OSX by your reference to device manager].
In my post I asked if iTunes 10 supports the 2nd gen nano as I am starting to suspect that it doesn't. Have you recently upgraded to 10?

  • My ipod touch 3rd gen will not update to 4.3. It says it is the current version

when i try to update my ipod touch 3rd gen to 4.3 on itunes it says "your ipod is up to date" and "this is the currnet version".  But when i try to buy certain apps it says "you must have version 4.3 to download this app" what do i do? i have 4.2 and i have even clicked the "check for update" button and waited for the automatic update check but it always says its the current version even though its not! please help me!

You appear to have a second generation iPod touch, not a third, and those can't be updated past 4.2.1. Apple sold 8GB second generation models at the same time as the third generation ones.

My iPod touch, fourth gen, wont charge or be recognized by my computer. This computer has worked with my iPod before and the wall charger also works. But when i plugged it into the wall charger it didn't work. I tried a different cable and tried my computer as well. Although, when i turned it off and then plugged it in while in its off state, it turned on, but didn't show that it was charging by showing the little lightening bolt. Please help, i do not have a phone and this is what i used to contact my close family and friends.

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

    - Try here:
iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - When you restore does the appear that the iPod successfully goes through all the stages of restore?
If yes, try placing the iPod in Recovery mode and then restore.

  • My Ipod Touch 3rd Gen will not update

I have a 3rd Gen Ipod Touch, and it states on the website that this supported to update to iOS 4.3
However, when I try to update, I get the same error message.
"This version of the Ipod software (4.2.1) is the current version"
anyone have any idea what might be causing this?
I have the latest version of Itunes, I have tried 2 different cables, also I have restored my Ipod back to factory settings,
There is nothing else that I can think of doing, as there is no update anywhere for me to manually download, and it's getting rather annoying to say the least.
    Thanks

Look on the back of your iPod Touch itself for any of these numbers.
    iPod Touch 1st generation - A1213
    iPod Touch 2nd generation - A1288
    iPod Touch 3rd generation - A1318
    iPod Touch 4th generation - A1367
Also see this Apple document on the 3rd generation iPod Touch

You probably have the 2nd generation iPod Touch which is an 8GB model.
The 2nd generation 8GB iPod Touch was last offered in August of 2010.. I bought one in August of 2010 and the following month Apple came out with the 4th generation. There never was a 3rd generation 8GB iPod Touch.

  • IPod touch 2nd gen will not open in iTunes. Ideas?

I upgrading the latest version of iTunes and I went to sync my iPod touch 2nd gen to get my latest podcasts and it would not sync or even recognize in iTunes. My PC recognizes the drive. But iTunes is a no go. I suspected it was just the latest version of iTunes so I downgraded back to the previous version and got the same results. I've switched USB ports, cables and have restarted numerous times. I even uninstalled the device from the device manager but nothing is working. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  • IPod Touch 3rd Gen will not sync or charge

    Hello all,
I'm using a 3rd gen ipod touch, but when I attempt to charge or sync this device the ipod refuses to respond. I've upgraded itunes to the latest version, and I've also ensured I'm using a working USB 2.0 port. When the iPod is detected, I can go to device manager I see that the device is plugged in. Despite all of this, the ipod doesn't appear in itunes and is never charged.
    What gives?

I've gotten the iPod to sync after restoring it and not changing ANY of the music sync settings.  I didn't even click "sync music", I just have it on manual and clicked autofill.
After it synced all of the music successfully, I tried to sync a playlist (my recently added), and it's gone bonkers again, it won't sync the playlist's music, or any new music now.

I earlier tred to start to sync my iPod. But, I didn't complete the start of the process & I don't believed that the Ipod was identified by the iTunes site. Since then, my iPod will not come on. I have tried to charge it up via a mains charge.  Neither top or bottom will start.
I know that there is no oproblem with my itunes site, as another iPod has been sync'd later, with no problems.
    Any help any one.

I recently purchased my iPod touch with no issues.
