Rather than post your problem here where we are all users post them to http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipodtouch.html.
Apple is not listening here but they will get the input at that URL.

  • AOL on ipod touch question

My daughter just got an ipod touch and would like to be able to access her aol mail. However, her mother is the primary account on AOL. Is there a way to set up mail using her screen name to access her mail from her mother's primary account?

For anyone who cares, I figured it out. To set up any AOL mail:
    imap.aol.com (incoming mail server)
    smtp.aol.com (outgoing mail server)

  • How do I fix my iPod touch's problem with hotmail outgoing mail server?

I have just received a new replacement iPod touch 8Gb.
On my old model I used the house wifi network to connect to HOTMAIL in the mail app it would set the account up immediately and work perfectly.
This time, when I tried to set the account up I had a long delay while it verified account details. Then after opting to set up account without using SSL an account was generated with an error message to say I may not be able to send or receive mail.
Incoming mail is OK, outgoing is not working.
The error message told me that I needed to configure my outgoing mail server.
My default outgoing server is set to smtp.live.com and works on port 587.
I have an additional server set to 'on', which is also smtp.live.com working on port 465, which was set up when I tried to alter the port number on the default server. Still no outgoing mail.
    Any suggestions?

Followed your instructions and again, account verification failed using SSL.
I chose to create without SSL and got the following message:
'The SMTP server 'smtp.live.com' is not responding'. I accepted the details,
the email Inbox populated, and everything looks normal.
    Same error is occuring:
'Connection to outgoing server 'smtp.live.com' failed. Additional outgoing mail servers can be configured in settings>mail, contacts and calendars'
    The settings are as follows:
    Incoming mail server
    Host Name: pop3.live.com
    username: is correct
    password: is correct
    Outgoing SMTP:
    Primary server
    host name: smtp.live.com
    username: is correct
password: is correct (has been re-entered just in case)
    Use SSL: OFF
    Authentication: password
    server port 587
I have duplicate SMTP servers listed under 'Other SMTP servers' with exactly the same details as above so it seems as if the iPod is retaining some settings even after I delete account.
Also, I wonder if there is anything I need to get the network administrator to do, because he did ask for the Wi-Fi address of my previous iPod touch could it just be a case of allowing it as a specific device on our network?

Try another wifi network. If it still doesn't work, try #2 and #3 in link below. If neither work, you most likely have a hardware issue.

how erase the AOL account from my ipod touch??? alway i update apps appear on the screen different a email of mine and i cant erase

Thank you both for your answers.
@danacarolina7: the problem with doing that, is that as soon as you plug your iPod up to your computer, the deleted songs are automatically re-added to your iPod from iTunes.  It appears that there's no permanent way to delete songs from your iPod, using your iPod.

  • Parental Controls/iPod Touch Messaging & AOL

Parental Controls/iPod Touch Messaging: has anyone tried using AOL's parental control's since Apple has none?  The AOL email accounts I've set up are limited by me to a few trustworthy addresses.  Will this filter also work for iPod Messaging?  Thanks.

If you wish to comment to Apple with suggestions on how they could improve the parental controls, you can do so via their feedback pages:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback
You can, of course, prevent the setting up of an email account if you wish via the Restrictions currently on the iPod. You can then disable Safari and get one of the other browsers that allow site filtering such as MobiCIP. But kids can still get access to lots of stuff you don't want them to see.

  • I cannot send emails from my btconnect email address on my ipod touch but I can receive them?

I cannto send emails from my btconnect email account on my ipod touch but I can receive them?!

For IPod Touch, using WiFi, the answer is:
BTConnect SMTP server doesn't accept password authentication.
So, outgoing server just needs to be setup as follows:
    Host Name: smtp.btconnect.com
    User Name:
    Password:
    Use SSL: Off
    Authentication:
    Server Port: 25
Leave username, password & authentication blank.

  • Slow loading email on my iPod Touch 3rd gen

Email (from both AOL and Gmail) used to load pretty snappily on my iPod Touch. Lately it takes forever to check to see if I have mail. The OS is updated to whatever the "max" is for this particular vs. of iTouch. I've turned off notifications for just every app but Calendar, thinking the notifications might be causing the battery to work extra hard, but this hasn't helped. It seems the problem is often worse with Gmail, where I rarely delete anything from my inbox. Could that be contributing to the problem? Or is my iPod just old and tired? Any suggestions?
    Thanks!
    Andy

Thanks Clyde. I did as you suggested. Now my mail loads quickly sometimes, other times it still seems to take forever. Maybe I'm just getting impatient thee days, but I don't remember it ever taking long enough for me to have to set the device down and then check back a couple of times to see if it was done uploading mail. Could it simply be that so many more people are using the same bandwidth these days? Seems a little far-fetched to me, but who knows?

  • I can't set up my email account on my ipod touch.  It keeps saying that I have to use a valid email address for this account

I can't set up my email on my ipod touch.  It keeps saying I have to use a valid email address for this account.  Help!

    Hi Annie,
Make sure when you are setting up your e-mail account that you enter in your entire e-mail address.  If you have a Yahoo (includes any e-mail account associated with Yahoo), G-mail, or Aol after entering in your password it should automatically set up.  Any other e-mail address you will have to manually set the account up.

  • Erase All Content and Settings on my iPod Touch

I'm trying to delete an old email address from my iPod Touch. It doesn't show up in Contacts and it has been deleted from my AOL, Yahoo, and gmail Contacts lists both in my iPod and on the laptop I use to synch the iPod. When I open my iPod and click to compose email it doesn't show up in the possible matches pop up while I'm typing the address. However, if I'm writing an email from an open app it does. I think I entered it manually one time rather than from my contacts list and it's stored in my iPod somewhere but I can't find it to delete it. A friend has suggested clicking on the Erase All Content and Settings but I'm not sure if I can re-synch with iTunes to restore apps and music and, if I can, I'm not sure if it will come back when I restore the apps.
I'm asking if that may be a possible solution to my problem and if I do that will I be able to restore content, including any purchased apps by re-synching with iTunes? I'm concerned with losing something I can't replace. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Ok, thanks for the response. I just have two more questions:
    1) In my iTunes when I connect the iPod to my laptop I and click on My iPod, under Apps I get a listing of all my optional apps with boxes to be checked if I want them installed down the left side of the page, with the exception of the standard apps that are included with the iPod, like Photos, for instance, which cannot be removed through iTunes. Am I correct in assuming that these standard apps will automatically be restored when I re-synch?
    2) What about photos I have taken with my iPod? Will I lose those? Is there a way to send them in bulk to my laptop first before erasing everything so that I won't lose the photos I've taken? When I go to the Photos folder in iTunes I can't tell which pictures are there and which are only in the iPod.

  • IPod Touch 4 will not send mail (Comcast POP account)

I'm having an issue sending mail (Comcast) in a new iPod Touch. I sync'd it with iTunes and the mail settings are configured exactly as my iPhone (which works sending & receiving). The iPod will receive mail but will not send. It's also able to get online through our wireless network at home.
The only thing I can think of is that it required me to update iTunes to 10.1 (from 10) before it would even be recognized in iTunes. I haven't sync'd my iPhone to the updated iTunes and really am afraid to, if that's what's causing the issue.
    Here is the message:
    "Canot send Mail"
The connection to the outgoing server "smtp.comcast.net" failed. Additional outgoing mail servers can be configured in settings...."
I can't understand why the iPod's mail settings would be configured any different than the other 4 macs and 1 iPhone in our household.
    Any ideas?

Thanks for your help. After further trouble shooting I found that the iPod was conflicting with other outgoing mail servers that were listed as "Other SMTP Servers" in the mail settings. I deleted them and kept only the one that is used for this one email account.
"Authentication" continues to change from "password" to "MD5 Challenge-Response" on it's own. I don't know what that is, so I'll need to check into it to make sure it isn't an issue.

  • Cannot set up mail on iPod Touch using Mac's AirPort WI-FI.

This is FYI. My problem has been fixed so this might help someone. I could not set up my mail account on my new iPod Touch using my home Mac's AirPort WI-FI. I do not have a separate wireless router. I am running Tiger OSX 10.4.11 with an iMac. Safari and You Tube, etc. on the Touch was working fine. I kept getting "cannot connect using SSL" and "POP server...is not responding." I found out, by myself, that if I turned off my firewall on the Mac, my email account set up and I could receive and send emails. I also found out if I set up the account on another WI-FI, it would work. I don't like to turn off the firewall, so I won't check my email on my Touch using my Mac's WI-FI.

    A bit more info...
    The error message says -
    Cannot Send Mail
The connection to the outgoing server "smpt.me.com" failed.
    My server setting is smpt.me.com
    SSL is turned on.
    Port 587
    Sever is turned on
All the settings below the server on/off switch are greyed out so i cannot edit them myself.
The ipod touch is brand new yesterday and up to date with the latest software.

  • Can't send mail from my new ipod touch

Got a brandnew ipod touch 32gig and everything works fine except the sending of emails. I always get the error message "the connection to the outgoing server smtp.xxxx.ch failed". I have no problems to send emails from my computer with the identical settings. In the settings section of the ipod touch/accounts/outgoing mail server/advanced/outgoing settings/server port, there is a port selected with the number "587". I did not know that I need to have a port selected when there is no authentication necessary. I tried different port numbers but nothing changed. Any ideas?
    Thanks for help in advance.

So long as you are connected to WiFi and the email is configured correctly you can both view and send with the iPod Touch.
@OP: Do you have that email account setup on your computer? If you connect your iPod Touch and look in iTunes. Click on the name of your iPod under Devices. You should now be at the summary page. Click on over to the Info tab. Choose Sync Mail accounts. Chose the application you use and then put a check next to your account. Of course, thats all assuming you have this email setup on your computer already.
Have a look at this article.

  • Problems with new ipod touch gen3

    Hi,
I just got a new ipod touch and i have problems connecting it with my WRT54GX ver 2 wirelles router. It shows that is connected but when i check the IP it has the default 169.254.202.45  one which means that the AP did not assign an IP. I tried with static IP and although in the log it shows outgoing communication from that IP the ipod does not connect to the internet.
A PC and a blackberry are working fine with this AP and the ipod has worked fine in my house (RUKOUS AP) and in two cofeeshops.
Anyone else having a similar problem?
    Thanks
    John

thanks for the suggestion but it did not work.
The iPod came up asking for the password (WEP key) and i entered it. It showed connected with the router but Safari does not work and when i check the DHCP entries in see the following
    IP: 169.254.202.45
    Sub: 255.255.0.0
This means that the connection was made but the router DHCP server did not assign an IP address to the iPod.
This exact problem i have encoutered so far in my office, a cofeeshop and a car dealership. In all cases the wirelles was based on an older linksys router and except in the case of my office the other two were unsecured networks.
I believe it has something to do with the firmware on those linksys routers causing a problem specificaly to iPods and i would guess iPhones too since they have the same OS.
I'm open to any suggestions but i've tried all the ones posted in this and other forums so far with no luck.
When i assign a static IP, the iPod again connects, the router log indicates outgoing traffic from that IP but there is no incomming traffic.

  • Syncing hosted exchange calendar to iPod Touch over USB won't update-

Wanted to post some helpful advice for anyone that may experience this issue.
If you use a hosted exchange service, and are stuck syncing your calendars and contacts to an ipod touch or iphone over USB, realize that iTunes will only sync the default calendars and contacts over USB, not shared folders. Itunes will give you the option to designate which calendar syncs, but the names in iTunes won't match what is named in outlook.
Have a difficult client who suffers from a mixture of tech hoarding, non-linear thinking, unwillingness to change behavior, tech anxiety, and ego. So there has been a lot of money and time spent to get him tools that help organize his life, and allow me to schedule things for him. I have him on a hosted exchange account so that I can have access to his most up to date appointments and contacts when he travels internationally (He won't leave AOL because he can save emails directly as Word files). His Palm treo (which was only being used as a PDA) was beginning to fail, so I recommended an iPod touch as a temporary, low-cost PDA alternative. He travels internationally in 6-8 month chunks, since it didn't make sense to commit to a superphone. He did it under condition that it would sync over USB, since he is in areas without wifi very often. I checked it on my iphone (since I'm synced to his exchange account), and it worked. So I gave the go ahead.
After some issues with changing out his computers while in Europe, he contacts me with issues that his calendar and contact options were not updating to the most recent information in outlook after syncing with USB. After a support call, I was told to restore the phone, so that everything was erased and would be reloaded with outlook info. After we did that, my client informed me that contacts were updating, but the calendar was missing, except for two events that I had accidently added to it from my iPhone. I called support, who took the issue to tier 2, and was outright told not to talk to me and referred me to my hosted exchange company. I mentioned that they would be unable to help me with why iTunes wasn't updating a calendar in Outlook. He apologized but said that Tier 2 wouldn't take the call, and because it was exchange they wouldn't help. This was with my client on the line in a skype conference, who became maddeningly upset, as he would need to find another PDA while in Europe. Since, my client has sworn off Apple, which I was beginning to lean him towards, due to it's robust OS and backup capabilities, as well as simplicity.
But that's neither here nor there. I noticed that the two events that I had accidently added were on the default outlook calendar, named (oddly enough) "Calendar". Due to issues with me when I setup exchange when we first got it, I had to tell him to use a shared calendar called "Calendar-New" so that him and I could view and edit his appointments from different machines. I was connected to my clients computer over VNC, so I saw that under the info tab in iTunes, where I had checked "Sync with outlook" that there was a second option to sync only certain calendars, and three were listed, ""Calendar", "Calendar-", and "Calendar-1". I asked the tier 1 rep to check to see what these meant, I may be able to redirect iTunes to the right calendar. He was unwilling to, as Tier 2 had yelled at him.
With that, we hung up, and, once I confirmed that his changes to Calendar could be seen on my end, and changes I made could be seen on his end, and that these events showed up on the ipod after he synced it, I realized that iTunes defaults to the default calendar in outlook. Yay!. I went ahead and dragged and dropped all of the events from Calendar-New to Calendar, and now the problem is fixed.
I really wish someone at apple support would have been willing to at least walk through this with me, or at least looked into how the sync works, Ashley in tier 2, shame on you for hanging up on my tier 1 rep! You lost a customer who buys a brand new computer every year. Reminds me of this story

    Hello Snagglebits2
I am an Solutions Engineer for a hosted exchange provider, and that is some good information.
I have not tested this out, but i will. I do remember when i had my ipod touch, that it would sync perfectly over WiFi, but i do not know if i ever tested this by USB.
You should also make sure your customer is on a hosted exchange service that uses Akami.
