IPod Touch and iTunes: The Crash of '08

iTunes crashes when I try to sync my iPod Touch. Suggestions? Thanks.

It might mean that it is currently syncing. You can wait for it for a few seconds or could be a minute or 2.

  • Difference between free space reported by my iPod Touch and iTunes

Why is so different the free space reported by my iPod Touch and iTunes?, which of both devices is reporting the correct free space?
also, I restored my iPod two days ago because "other" space was too big (almost a gig),
three days later, is over 500Mb, why is this happening?, thanks.
On the pic you can see the difference between the free space reported by my iPod (403 MB) and iTunes (0.29Gb)

I took the pic when I finished syncing, so that shouldn't be an issue, no matter how many times I sync, free space is never equal (iPod always reports more space).
I'm running iOS 5.0.1 and I restored three days ago because iTunes said I was out of space to sync (and my iPod reported over 100Mb free).
As you can see from the pic, I only have 9 apps, I mainly use this iPod for music. I'm using the AAC option to fit more songs.
I really like this iPod, but as a music player. I had a first generation iPod Touch and "other" space never was an issue, I still have warranty, but I don't know if I should take this iPod to the store because of this, because it seems to be a software issue.
Just deleted my emails from the iPod and gained 10 Mb, I don't know what else can I do.

    Colton,
You'll need to connect your iPod to your iTunes library in Recovery Mode and restore it using the instructions in this Apple support document.

  • When I select my iPod touch in iTunes the buttons are inactive when I try to sort by name, artist etc.  Also about half of the links under 'file' etc are not active.

When I select my iPod touch in iTunes the buttons are inactive when I try to sort by name, artist etc.  Also about half of the links under 'file' etc are not active.

Further to my question, when I plug in and select my iPad 2 I don't have the same problem.  I have restored the settings on my iPod Touch and updated both iTunes and iPod Touch software and restarted my iPod touch.  Nothing has made any difference.

  • Henry dropped the Ipod touch and cracked the screen.  How can I get this fixed.

    Hi,
Henry dropped his Ipod touch and cracked the screen and put in a passcode and now has forgotten his passcode.  Need to know how I can get the screen fixed and or if it is covered on the 1 year warranty?  How can I unlock the Ipod without the passcode?
Any info would be greatly helpful!

Take to an Apple retailer. Such damage is not covered by your warranty.
A Complete Guide to Recover Your iDevice if You Forget Your Passcode
If you cannot remember the passcode, you will need to restore your device using the computer with which you last synced it. This allows you to reset your passcode and resync the data from the device (or restore from a backup). If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present. Refer to Updating and restoring iPhone, iPad and iPod touch software.
Try restoring the iOS device if backing up and erasing all content and settings doesn't resolve the issue. Using iTunes to restore iOS devices is part of standard isolation troubleshooting. Restoring your device will delete all data and content, including songs, videos, contacts, photos, and calendar information, and will restore all settings to their factory condition.
Before restoring your iOS device, Apple recommends that you either sync with iTunes to transfer any purchases you have made, or back up new data (data acquired after your last sync). If you have movie rentals on the device, see iTunes Store movie rental usage rights in the United States before restoring.
Follow these steps to restore your device:
Verify that you are using the latest version of iTunes before attempting to update.
Connect your device to your computer.
Select your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch when it appears in iTunes under Devices.
    Select the Summary tab.
    Select the Restore option.
When prompted to back up your settings before restoring, select the Back Up option (see in the image below). If you have just backed up the device, it is not necessary to create another.
Select the Restore option when iTunes prompts you (as long as you've backed up, you should not have to worry about restoring your iOS device).
When the restore process has completed, the device restarts and displays the Apple logo while starting up:
After a restore, the iOS device displays the "Connect to iTunes" screen. For updating to iOS 5 or later, follow the steps in the iOS Setup Assistant. For earlier versions of iOS, keep your device connected until the "Connect to iTunes" screen goes away or you see "iPhone is activated."
The final step is to restore your device from a previous backup.
If you can not restore your device then you will need to go to recovery mode.
Placing your device into recovery mode:
Follow these steps to place your iOS device into recovery mode. If your iOS device is already in recovery mode, you can proceed immediately to step 6.
Disconnect the USB cable from the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off, release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on. Note: If you see the screen pictured below, let the device charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some charge, and then start with step 2 again.
Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears you can release the Home button:
If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the following "recovery mode" alert:
Use iTunes to restore the device.
If you don't see the "Connect to iTunes" screen, try these steps again. If you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen but the device does not appear in iTunes, see this article and its related links.
    Additional Information:
Note: When using recovery mode, you can only restore the device. All user content on the device will be erased, but if you had previously synced with iTunes on this computer, you can restore from a previous backup. See this article for more information.

  • 101 Problems with my iPod Touch and iTunes...Almost

It really feels like I have 101 problems with my iPod touch and iTunes.
For some time now my iPod Touch have been using alot of batterypower and the battery is often discharged very fast. It discharges alot faster now than when I brought the Touch.
Also when I plug the iPod Touch to my computer it doesn't charge, it does the oposite of that, it's disharges and it does that ALOT faster than normal
There is also a problem regarding connecting the iPod Touch to iTunes. It doesn't connect to iTunes directly after I have plugged it in. It feels really random and it lives it own life it seems like.
If I accomplish to connect ut to iTunes it doesn't sync every single time. The computer / iPod Touch hangs and nothing happens. Soemtimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, like I said before - It feels really random!
Now to a BBIIGG problem. A week ago my girlfriend changed my password on my iPod Touch. When she typed the password into the login screen, it failed, she had forgotten the password / she thought that she picked that password when she changed it. Anywho, I didn't panic becuase I knew that I could lock it up by iTunes.
But, iTunes gives me a error while trying to restore the iPod Touch saying that there is no update avaiable and after that nothing happens. I tried to do the Sleep / Power + Home trick to set the iPod Touch into a recovery mode but iTunes gave me a unknown error.
I tried to update iTunes from my version to the new 8.0 version but when I do so it gives me a error saying that iTunes.msi can not be found and it can't uninstall the previous version :S
So, now I have a unusable iPod Touch, I can't do nothing with it.
    Like I said, It's really feels like I have 101 problems ;D.
Lucky I have my old iPod so I can listen to Music :P

my waterbottle leaked on my ipod touch and now the headphones dnot work what do i do ?

Take it to a Genius at your nearest Apple store.  They can evaluate the device and see what's wrong with it.
Remember that water/liquid damage is not covered under the warranty, so you will most likely have to pay for a replacement

If you jailbreak your ipod touch and crack the screen will the warrenty still work? Also, would the warrenty fix the screen? Would it cost money? Its a 5th gen.

Once you jail break Apple won't help with the machine. I'm not even sure if they'll honor an 'out of warranty' replacement.
Accidental damage, which is what a broken screen is, starts at $149 US

  • 3rd Gen 32GB iPod Touch Caushes iTunes to crash when connected.

I just bougth a brand new iPod touch 32GB model Number A1318
I connected it to my iMac with OS X 10.6.1 and iTunes 9.0
It detects the new iPod touch and activate it.
But itunes crashes, so I can not sinc with it.
    How do I fix this?
I tried reinstalling iTunes and iPod support from the Snow Leopard DVD, with no luck.

    Hi,
I just want to get in on this one as well because I have the exact same problem. (ipod touch 3rd gen -recently purchased- itunes 9.01 crashes)
When I go to sync my ipod, iphoto will open by default. I am able to see my ipod in the iphoto device list, but I cannot access it - I can only eject it. What is more, itunes will always crash at the same time. I am unable to reopen it.
The only workaround I have right now is that if I delete all the content/settings on my ipod, I am able to re-sync it with itunes. The next time I want to sync it however, I will have to repeat the reset (not ideal!).
If anyone has any help I would appreciate it.

  • HT1386 I updated my daughters iPod Touch and now the music states is it now stored on iCloud and can be accessed on WiFi or cellular.  There is no music stored on the iPod and she listens to it outside of the home without WiFi.  I will not let me sync.

I updated my daughter iPod touch.   Now the music states that it is on iCloud and can be accessed using WiFi or cellular.   I need to move the music back on the iPod so that she can listen to it without WiFi.   I tried to Restore backup but still does not work.   I tried to sync, still does not work.

Is the music in your iTunes library?
    Why can't you sync?
You said "Now the music states that it is on iCloud and can be accessed using WiFi or cellular."
    where does it state that?
Just redownload them from iCloud to the computer and the iPod by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

  • IPod Touch and iTunes Will Not Work Together.

I just received a new iPod Touch 32GB yesterday and have had nothing but troubles trying to get it to play nicely with iTunes. The Touch is currently version 1.1.5/4B1 (I believe updated to this sometime yesterday).
I am running iTunes v. 7.7.1 (11). When I connect the Touch to my iMac with iTunes running (even though I have it checked, just plugging the Touch in does not open iTunes) nothing happens for a long time and then I get a spinning beach ball which I have let go on for more than 20 minutes at one time.
The Touch and iTunes work fine independently. The last two times after force quitting iTunes, I have received the following error: iTunes could not connect to the iPhone (??) "" because an unknown error occurred (OxE8000035).
Does anyone know what this error is, & how do I resolve these issues?
    <Edited by Moderator>

    At least atm -
I have re-installed iTunes after restarting the iMac and then restarted again, the Touch connected and showed right away after that and I am happily, currently syncing.
If it goes bottoms up again, I'll be back!
