Ipod touch--can't get online at home via router

Just bought an ipod touch and want to use wi-fi to access internet at home.  I am able to log onto the home network, but there isn't an actual internet connection.
I am running XP, have a Lynksis WRK54G wireless router and have no idea how to configure it to allow the ipod access.  The IP address on the ipod shows: 169.xxx.xxx.xx.  Someone told me it is going to the default address, but I don't know how to fix this.
If any of you could help--in the simplest possible terms--that would be great!

Are any other devices able to access the internet through the wifi? And if it actually does say xxx for the IP, something is wrong. Generally Linksys routers assign IP addresses of 192.168.1.100 through 192.168.1.199 by default.

    No.
    - If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone. If the iPod has been restored it will never show up.
    iCloud: Find My iPhone
    - You can also wipe/erase the iPod and have the iPod play a sound via iCloud.
    - If not shown, then you will have to use the old fashioned way, like if you lost a wallet or purse.
    - Change the passwords for all accounts used on the iPod and report to police
    - There is no way to prevent someone from restoring the iPod (it erases it) using it unless you had iOS 7 on the device. With iOS 7, one has to enter the Apple ID and password to restore the device.

Place the iPod in recoverymode and restore it via iTunes on your comoputer.  For recovery mode see:

You could have easily found this by search this forum since the question gets asked/answered at least a dozen times a day.  I just answered it four times in the last 1/2 hour.

  • Previous iPod Touch worked fine, new iPod Touch can't get an IP Address

I had a version 1.1.4 iPod Touch for several days and it worked quite well. I was able to automatically connect to wireless connections at work, at home and at my parents house without meddling with any wireless settings and by just using DHCP.
The other day I exchanged the iPod Touch for a different one, due to a defect in the case manufacturing, and with this iPod Touch, I haven't been able to connect to any of the previously mentioned wireless networks. I noticed that I wasn't able to get an IP address at all at my parents house, but I figured it was because I hadn't upgraded to 1.1.4, and was still at 1.1.3. I upgraded to 1.1.4 though this morning and at the work network, I'm having the same issue. I can easily connect to the wifi networks, but if I look at the DHCP settings, it's all blank. I can't get an IP address.
I looked around the forum here and found a great deal of people who for some reason couldn't connect to their particular wireless setup. This problem however is different in that I could easily connect to many wireless setups, but now that I've seemingly just switched to a different iPod Touch, I can't connect to the same ones at all.
It seems weird to me that the issue could just be that I got a different iPod, and I really think there must be some other reason, but I can't think of one. From all outward appearances they're the exact same. Same networks, same version.
What else could be the issue?

If your new Touch can't get on any network, then does it have a MAC address assigned to it? Go to Settings/General/About and scroll to the bottom to see if you have a "Wi-Fi Address", which is the MAC address assigned to your particular unit.
    See this article for reference:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306067
If you're able to get on some networks but not others (where you had no problem before) then perhaps there is a subtle difference in the new unit's performance. You can try restoring it to see if that helps, but that means erasing everything and starting over.

  • New iPod Touch, Can't get iTunes to work, extra headaches

    Hello,
This is my first day in the Apple world: I caved and thought it would be good to get a new mp3/video player after my last one died. I ended up getting a 4th Gen Black iPod Touch - not sure if the color matters, but why not?
Anyway, my second problem (first being the weird packaging, of tape through plastic then stuck on) started with iTunes: the thing just would NOT download. Every time I tried, the website kept saying "There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program required for this install to completecould not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor." That's just great: I can't get any music or video ONTO my iTouch without iTunes...right?
After browsing around I found an older version of iTunes that seemed to work. Yay! But not really. Nobody ever mentioned that .flac and .avi files can't be imported into iTunes at all...so I had to go hunting online for third party converters. This took care of THAT problem...
However, now that conversion is up, the older version of iTunes won't pick up my iPod Touch and Sync it. There is actually a "Sync iPod" button under "File" tab, but it's grayed out and I can't use it.
Not entirely sure if this is why, but according to a few people, when a new iTunes comes out, the older one stops functioning as fully as it originally did, forcing people to upgrade their iTunes in order to make it work like normal.
I tried to find a third party program to pick up my iPod Touch so I could upload files, but no luck. I feel like an idiot for not knowing how to turn source code into a program, and the binary installers I did find were user-hostile (ie. Right clicking to bring up a menu actually plays the movie and there's no stop button, you have to end task from the task manager). Windows Explorer only shows one folder in my iPod Touch, which is empty and four letters long, which gives no clue as to what it is.
So here's my big question: now that I finally am fully ready to upload my files to my iPod Touch, I can't. Why?
Is it my version of iTunes? Why can't I download iTunes' newest version? Why does updating from the older version yield the same result (though I'm sure both installers are the same)? Is there another way to get all my media onto my device?
Thanks in advance...talk about a four hour headache...

I've used the Reset Network Settings feature in my iPod Touch after every failed attempt to connect to my wireless network. I've also reset the wireless access point and router after making changes to them.
It appears that my Touch is finding the wireless network, accepting the security password/key, and connecting to the wireless access point and router (I get a full signal on the strength indicator). However, the Touch appears to be acquiring the IP Address automatically, right? Thus, it gets the IP Address starting with "169". If I can manually set up the TCP/IP settings, I believe I can get it to connect. Is there a way to set up the TCP/IP settings manually?

  • Brand New Ipod Touch-Can't Get Music under "music"

This is my very first Apple product EVER!
Got a brand new Ipod touch generation 4.  Downloaded two albums on Itunes, then synced it with my Ipod touch.
When I go to use my Ipod, I got to the "music" icon, but i have NO music.
I go to the "more" option and 9 out of 10 times, I'm only given THREE options there "Compliations, Composers, Genre".  Only once or twice in the last 72 hours, have I had an additional option of "shared".  When i do have the "shared" option, I can see the music that I've downloaded.  I click on it as if to play it, and it sort of seems like it's playing it, but I hear NOTHING.
Please help me, I'm so frustrated!

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync all music and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • My movie got deleted because I updated my iPod Touch & can't get it back. Help.

Yesterday I decided to update my 4 generation iPod Touch, before I updated it I synced all my stuff I had in my iPod that I haven't synced yet onto my iTunes library, but my movie didn't get synced and I didn't know that so I updated it anyways. After I updated it, I wanted to get all my music, TV shows, podcasts, the movie I mentioned & apps back. Then I realized I didn't sync my movie into my iTunes library and I don't know how to get it back. I went to the iTunes store on my iPod & I saw this section called "Purchased" so I thought all the stuff I have bought in the iTunes store would be there, but it only appeared the TV shows & music I've bought, not the movie. I need some help please :l

You can contact iTunes and explain what happens and then may allow aa redownload.  Unlike for apps and music (some countires only)  a redownload is not guaranteed.

  • IPod Touch: Can't Get Wireless To Work

I have a new iPod Touch. I have a Linksys WAP54G (Wireless Access Point) hooked to a Linksys BEFSR41 (Cable/DSL Router) fed by an Alcatel DSL modem using an AT&T DSL 6.0 connection. My wireless network is security enabled with a 10-digit wireles network key. My iPod Touch recognizes the newtork, accepts the network key, and confirms a signal from the access point. But, the iPod Touch will not connect to anything (Safari, YouTube, Google, etc.). When I look at the IP Address in the iPod Touch, it starts with "169".
What do I need to do to get my iPod Touch to work with my wireless network? Thanks. Help is appreciated.

I've used the Reset Network Settings feature in my iPod Touch after every failed attempt to connect to my wireless network. I've also reset the wireless access point and router after making changes to them.

  • IPod touch can't get my mail

Wi-Fi works on my iPod Touch but I can no longer get my mail.  Any idea what may have happened?

Sometimes is can be something turned off in settings, so maybe you should check the mail section in settings. Also, I have had it where in the weirdest places in settings something is affecting it. You should check and make sure the address is working also. Hope this helps

  • Cracked screen on ipod touch can't get in to it. did a back up with it and tried to put it on new ipod touch 5 and now it keeps talking and won't let me in or turn off.  how can i restore to nothing

Cracked ipod touch screen and it won't let me in or turn off.  Tried to back it up and put on new ipod touch 5 and now it's not working and doing the same thing. I tried to restore to orginal  but it won't let me any suggestions?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

When the above says to restore via iTunes, restore to factory settings/new iPod, not from backup

  • If someone stole your ipod touch can u get a replacement if it hasnt been found

hi someone stole my ipod and im wondering if apple would give me a replacement ... if i dont find my old one ... its a white one ... ive had it since christmas .....  and if i do get a replacement can i get my old belongings back from my stolen one ?

Apple does not replace stolen items, (is there a company that does replace their stolen products?) you would have to purchase a replacement. It may be covered under homeowners insurance but the deductible would probably not make it worth pursuing.

  • If i had a stolen ipod touch can i get a new one with my warranty

if i had a warranty from walmart and my ipod was stolen can i get a new one

Unfortunately most warranties do NOT cover theft.
However, take this as a lesson. Next time make sure to set-up Find My iPhone through iCloud.com. I had my iPod stolen once and I was able to track it back and find it easily with that program!
    Cheers!
