My son's ipod touch 3 screen shows a USB cable image and ask to connect to the itune. Itune does not connect with the message shows: this device is locked and can not be connected to the itune before you unlock it" I have no idea how to turn on this device and how to connect this to the itune, any help is highly appreciated.
Try to get it to recognize it by using DFU Mode. Then restore.

My iPad has not been dropped or damaged at all. The screen is grey fuzzy and has coloured lines down the middle. iPad 3 also.

I tried to update my 4s to the latest ios6. itunes came back and said there was an unexpected error. the screen on the phone is hung showing a usb cable and an arrow pointing to the itunes icon. itunes does not see the phone as being plugged into my computer. Connect the device to iTunes, confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode, put it into Recovery Mode.
Restore and wait for the error.
When prompted, click OK.
Close and reopen iTunes while the device remains connected.
The device should now be recognized in Recovery Mode again.
Try to restore again.
If the steps above do not resolve the issue, try restoring using a known-good USB cable, computer, and network connection.

The screen indicates that your device is in recovery mode. It has to be restored by connecting it to a computer with itunes. Restore to factory settings.
This happens sometimes. Hopefully you have a backup.
