IPod Touch no longer works with car stereo after 4.0 update

I updated my iPod to 4.0 a couple of days ago, and my Hyundai Santa Fe's built-in iPod interface no longer recognizes my iPod's music - it just says "empty iPod" or something of that nature. Is anyone else having this problem?? What should I do?

Add me to the list. Brand blankety-new ipod touch that after 4.0.2 wouldn't work with the Subaru-factory-installed ipod connector in my '08 STI. The shut-it-off-and-restart-in-the-car method at least made it able to play music again but still no recharging.
To add insult to injury I did the have-an-Apple-GENIUS call me thing. The first thing was that they called me....for about 1/4 of a second. The phone blipped for less than a ring and then I got an email saying, "Oh, we TRIED to reach you and you weren't there. Why don't you call us?". So I called and was immediately put on hold. When one of the geniuses finally picked up, I described the issue with great patience and his insightful answer was, "let me put you on hold while I talk to my supervisor." So I sat on hold for five minutes until...they just hung up...no answer, no, "gee we think you're SOL"....just "click". Thanks a boatload Mr. Jobs.

  • IPod Touch no longer working with car Head Unit since update

Hi there, I have a problem with using my iPod Touch with my car's head unit.
I've been using my iPod Touch with the Alpine IDA X001 Head unit fitted in my car for the last 3 months without any problems, however I installed the latest software update for the Touch (v4.0) and now the head unit connects and then says no USB device. At first I thought it was the cable as the cable supplied with the head unit is pretty fragile, so I've replaced it with a new one but it still doesn't work.
I've tested with my iPod Nano and it works perfectly so its not a problem with the head unit or lead (I plugged the Touch in and it didn't work, plugged the Nano in and worked perfectly and then plugged the Touch in and didn't work).
Can anyone help or is it gonna be a case of Restoring the iPod Touch back to factory settings ????

I was also having this problem with my Kenwood car stereo. I went into the store and they did a complete restore. I didn't think it worked but the next time I plugged it into my usb to connect with my car stereo it worked. So you might try doing a restore.

  • Ipod touch no longer working in car?

    Hi there,
Both my ipod touch and nano are no longer working in the car. We have a USB port etc and have not had any issues until now. We just plugged it in, pressed CD/AUX and that was it. Now it just says "Unsupported" on the screen. Any ideas?

That's likely it but I don't understand what that means.
    It means that either:
    (a) Your stereo never did fully comply with Apple's communication protocol. The only reason it worked before was because Apple previously did not use something in the defined protocol until now. Now that they are, your stereo no longer communicates with the iPod. Apple is still complying with their protocol, but your stereo can no longer capitalize in a prior limitation in the iPod OS.
    OR
    (b) Apple either did not define the protocol completely (or accurately), or they muffed the code that would ensure compliance to their own defined protocol.

Will it ever work again? Any way around this. Seems kinda dumb to update something and then suddenly it no longer works with the stuff I have (ie a car!!)
You can see if there is a firmware update for your stereo, or you can wait and hope for a change in the iPod OS someday that will restore functionality. You might also be able to step down a revision in your iPod OS.
In any case, you can report your problem here:

  • All of a sudden, my 4th gen iPod Touch no longer works with my Apple TV, has Apple "upgraded" something to kill off this older unit? (IOS 6.1.2)

All of a sudden, my iPod Touch (4th gen, IOS 6.1.6) no longer works with Airplay on my Apple TV.  It was working and still works as a 'remote' but not with Airplay which seems to indicate I've been abandoned by the message that pops up on the screen saying in essence "too bad you don't have IOS 7.1".

  • Ipod touch no longer working with isimple device?

I have a 4th gen Ipod touch that was working just fine with my isimple device in my vehicle until I believe I updated the ipod to the latest firmware. I now recieve a message saying device is not compatible with Ipod, Is there anyway I can rollback to the previous version which I believe was 6.1.2? Thanks!!

Downgrading the iOS is not supported by Apple.
    Sometimes this works:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
Go to the devices support site and see if they have anything. Maybe a firmware update is available. Otherwise you will have to wait for a firmware or iOS update.

  • IPod no longer works with car stereo since upgraded MBA & iTunes

My iPod classic has worked just fine connected to my car stereo since i bought it last june. I just bought a new Macbook Air (OS 10.7.3) & installed ITUNES 10.6.1. After I synched my ipod for the first time its recognised by the car but i get a "can't read data" message. I re-formatted my ipod but its exactly the same. Do you think its the upgrade- or the cable? Has anyone else found a bug with this version of Itunes or the OS? I have my doubts a cable would make the difference, and my old ipod nano that i haven't synched for a while works fine.

If standalone works fine, then, most likely the 30 pin connect may have some dirt or lint, prevent data transfer.
You can try to blow it clean, if you have a can of compressed air or gas.
Alternatively you can connect it to the car stereo and do the RESET, while connnected.as follows
Toggle the Hold switch, make sure you dont see the red mark when you do the  next step
Reset the iPod -> Press Menu and Center button simultaneously for about 10 secs or till the Apple Logo comes ON
    Then release the buttons
    Select your preferred language.
Here is the Apple support Article on the 5Rs

The Reset sequence may send a signal to the Car stereo to do the right thing

  • New ipod touch will not charge with car stereo anymore

I recently got an iPod Touch and when I plug it in to my car stereo it says that "charging is not supported with this accessory". I'm assuming it has something to do with the fact that the new IPT do not charge with firewire.
I'm having the same problem with a USB 2.0 extension cord I bought. this one I don't understand because it is supposed to be USB and not firewire. I've tried plugging that in to the wall with a usb wall charger but I get the same thing, so it's not an issue of there not being enough power.
As far as my car is concerned, the cable has a regular ipod connection. I look up firewire to USB converters but they all have a female firewire (small odd shaped holes) connection, so I couldn't plug my cable in to it. Does anyone have any idea on what I could do to fix this situation so that my ipod will charge while it is plugged in?

You have identified a problem that has been around since the iPod touch came out (also effects the latest generation nanos). Go to your local big box store and by yourself a new charger that is compatible with the touch.

  • IPod Touch no longer working with Nike  after 4.3.2 update.

I updated to 4.3.2 about a week ago and immediately afterwards my itouch was not able to pick up the Nike+ sensor when initiating a run (during the "walk around to start the sensor" part).  I even went out and dropped 20 bucks on a new sensor at Best Buy because my initial thought was the battery died since I've been using it for about 2 years.  When I went to pair the new sensor I was surprised to see the itouch finding "multiple sensors" and still pickign up on my old one, so I had to go to a seperate room to pair the new one.  I thought all was right in the world, but the next morning again it would not find the signal to start the workout.
I also did a factory reset, but still nothing.
What's going on? Is anyone else having this problem or is it just me?

I was also having this problem with my Kenwood car stereo. I went into the store and they did a complete restore. I didn't think it worked but the next time I plugged it into my usb to connect with my car stereo it worked. So you might try doing a restore.

  • IPod touch won't work with car's USB port after sw update

I've been using my iPod with my 2011 Honda CR-V's USB port to play my music through the car's audio system without issue since I bought the car.  This stopped working after the latest iPod software update a few days ago--the msg on the audio screen says it's now "unsupported". Is there anything I can do to fix this without a full restore? Why did it change?  Thanks for any help.

    Hey there,
Glad to hear we're getting closer. Looks like you're connected to the network, just not able to utilize it's internet connection.
Let's check your iPod's IP addres. Tap Settings > Wi Fi and look for your network. To the right, there's a blue circle with a white arrow in it. Tap that circle. If the IP address starts out with 169.x.x.x, it is a self-assigned IP address. Since it came from the iPod, and not the router, it can't be used.
I would recommend resetting your iPod's network settings:
Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings
When the iPod restarts, reconnect it to your network and try Safari again.
If it still isn't working, try powercycling your router and resetting those settings at the same time.
    1. Turn off the router
    2. Reset the network settings again, as indicated above
    3. Turn the router back on
    4. Reconnect the iPod to the network
If it still isn't working, let's check your iPod's software version.
    Settings > General > About
If you've upgraded to 2.0, the latest version is 2.0.2. If you haven't upgraded, the latest version is 1.1.5. If you're not at either of those numbers, connect the iPod to your computer and use iTunes to check for software updates for the iPod.
Regarding the router settings, I'm not familiar with your router manufacturer. I'd check their website for instructions on that. I think at this point you wouldn't really need to change any settings, but just check for firmware updates.

  • Bluetooth will not work with car stereo after IOS6

I upgraded to ios6 and lost a number of Bluetooth  functions with Alpine car stereo  1. Can no longer control playback from head unit. 2. Track info no longer displayed on head unit. 3.  When head unit finds iPhone it no longer begins to play automatically.

If this is an after market car radio, you can go to the manufacures website, and they should have an update available for your head unit.  Some manufactures dont have it available and you may need to replace and update your head unit.  If this is factory installed, go to your local dealership, and they can do the update for you.

  • Using With car stereo after 3.0 update

    Hi,
i have my iPhone connected to my Pioneer car stereo through USB, i can view the iPod song list playlists etc on the phone aswell as using the stereo. The song/artist/album titles used to have about a second delay before they displayed the on the car stereo screen but since the 3.0 update this has been taking up to 5 seconds which is really really annoying.
    Anyone any ideas why?

  • IPhone 5 not working with car USB after iOS8.2 update

    Hi,
After upgrading my iPhone 5 (32GB, 8.9GB free, model MD299PP/A) to iOS 8.2 (12D508), it doesn't work as usual when connecting to my car's USB port. Before upgrade, I can still see the track names or podcast info in my car stereo display, and can use the navigation controls to select songs. Now, my car stereo display says "iPod NO MUSIC" or "iPod ERROR READING", and can't use the nav controls, although the sound is still coming out of the car speakers.
The above error is seen on my Toyota Corolla Altis 1.6G, so I tried it in my Ford Fiesta 1.5 Sports. Same problem, the dashboard says that "ERROR READING FILE".
I then connected my iPad Air (iOS 8.1.3), and it works well with both cars.

    Howdy emoy81,
It sounds like you upated your iOS device to 8.2 and now you are unable to listen to your iPhone through your car due to this error message. I would recommend usin these troubleshooting steps from the following article:
Get help using your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with your car stereo
    Troubleshooting tips
    Try these troubleshooting tips.
    Beginning playback and controlling music
Some car stereos might require that playback be started or controlled from either the device or the stereo. Ensure that your car stereo is set to the proper input for your device. If it is and you cannot hear sound from your car speakers, try switching to your radio and then back to the proper input.
When using adapters to connect to your car stereo, you might notice variations in audio quality. When possible, use a shorter connection to the car stereo or try a different cable or adapter.Disconnect and restart
If you are experiencing difficulties with the connection between your stereo and device, disconnect the device, and then power cycle the stereo and your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad. When the Home screen reappears, reconnect your device. If you cannot power cycle the stereo, turn the car off and then back on to allow the stereo to power off.Isolate the issue
Try to reproduce the issue with an identical or similar accessory, if one is available, or test with a second device.
For example, if you hear static coming from the left audio channel, try connecting a different device or try connecting to a different stereo or accessory that connects over the same interface (30-pin or Lightning connector, Bluetooth, or headphone jack).Restore iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
If you have isolated an issue to the device, restore iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to its factory condition. You should rarely need to use this step with an accessory issue. If the issue affects only a third-party accessory, contact the accessory manufacturer before restoring your iOS device.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Take care,

  • IPhone 3G does not work with car integration after 2.2 update

I just upgraded my iPhone 3G with the new 2.2 software update and now it doesn't work with my car integration. Very frustrating... I have a 2009 Honda Civic that has a USB interface. Before the update I was able to charge and play music through the USB interface. In addition, I could also control the music through the stereo. After the update, it says not compatible and it doesn't even charge the phone anymore. Doesn't anyone have the same problem or know how to fix it? Street view is cool but i will definitely revert back to 2.1 if I can't fix this...

I am having the same problem here After updating to 2.2 the iPhone has stopped working in the car. The stereo just simply refuses to see it. The car in question is a brand new 2009 VW Polo Match, which I know is not as fault as tried it with a iPod nano and worked fine.
Is reinstalling the firmware only solution to this? Do we know the cause yet?

  • IPod Touch 5th gen no longer working with Mini stereo...

I have an 'entertainment pack' in my Mini that allows me to connect my iPod Touch 5th gen to the car stereo (via USB & aux in cables) to both listen to it and scroll through my music through the stereo interface. I have had a few problems before with it not connecting but these usually resolved themselves within a day or so and I think were more to do with my lightning to 30 pin adapter than my actual iPod. However, since I installed the latest ios7 update a couple of days ago I cannot get it to work at all and keep getting a message saying 'this accessory is not supported' when I plug the iPod into my car. Any suggestions on how I can resolve this?

Try another adopter, a genuine Apple one
    Next:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
      - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
Sometimes an iOS update breaks compatibility and you will have to wait for an update to either the car system or to the iPod
