IPod Touch not charging in any external power sources?

About a year and a half ago, I had an issue with syncing/charging my iPod touch (2nd gen I think? There's no camera on it) in my computer (Dell Studio 1700 PC). It charged everywhere else, the wall, my alarm clock dock...
I was told to update my device drivers and that resolved the problem. I was able to charge/sync in my computer again. But since I updated the drivers, it stopped charging in the wall/dock. There was no software upgrade during this time, although there has been in the months following.
Any way I can get it to charge everywhere again? I've seen suggestions that newer models don't fit old connections, but none of my accessories were incompatible at the time of purchase.

I upgraded my software to what iTunes said was the most recent version in an attempt to troubleshoot as well, but there was no change.

  • Trying to restore ipod, demanding I attach to the external power source.

I have been given a 2nd hand 20gb ipod photo, 4g. It would not sync to my itunes, instead it would get about 30 songs in and cancel itself. I have tried to restore the ipod to the original factory settings using itunes and it is now demanding that I plug it into the external power source to complete the restore. I have only a variety of speaker systems, all of which serve to charge other ipods (Nano, Shuffle etc) but these are not being recognised by the ipod, the display of which remains showing a picture of a plug and socket. Can anyone offer some advice as to what to do?

Your iPod is not an iPod Classic and when updating or restoring some iPods via a usb connection, it needs to be plugged into power via the charger to complete the process, and this is why you see this icon displayed.
It's also why older iPods that required this step were supplied with a power adaptor as standard.
You may be able to complete the process via a car charger, or via a powered firewire port on the computer (with the required 6 pin cable of course) if you have access to either of those. Or maybe visit an Apple store if one is nearby.
    Or you can try this.
    No power adaptor? Try this.
Other than that, your iPod cannot be used until you complete this process.

It will put your iPod into recovery mode and should make it visible to Itunes.
Then you can restore it again and hopefully for the last time.

  • Why is my 4th generation ipod touch not charge? I plug it into the computer and the wall and with 2 different usb cables and its not charging. When its plugged in it shows the icon for charging but the battery never increases and it dies once i disconnect

I have a 4th generation Ipod Touch. It has been working for months when yesterday the battery started acting werid. I was driving and it was connected with the usb charger cable to my car stereo when all the sudden my music stopped and the stereo could not recognize my ipod at all. When I got back home, I tried to charge it so it wouldnt die but even while on the charger in the wall the battery continued to die. I charged it over night (the first time I have ever charged it over night) desperately to have battery for a 4 o clock plane flight so I would have entertianment. The ipod died over night while on the charger. When I unplugged it from the usb charging cable I noticed that the icon telling me the ipod needed to be charged came up. So I plugged it back in. The charging thunder bolt symbol popped up next to the very small red strip on the left side of the battery indicating that the ipod had no charge to turn its self on. I tried plugging it in on the computer, the wall ac charger and a stereo system made just for the ipod that also pluggs into the wall. I have used 2 different cables, the result being the same that the ipod held no charge, and it wouldnt charge at all while on the charger, and it would imediately die once i take it off the charger.
I have not idea what has happened ....
    Please help
    THanks!

    - While charging try resetting the iPod:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Next try restoring the iPod via iTunes.  First from backup and if still problem restore to factory defaults/new iPod.
    - However, I really think that the iPod has a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.  If defective Apple should give you a refurbished iPod.

  • 1st generation ipod touch not charging/syncing to my Mac.

My ipod touch 1st generation is not syncing or charging to my mac.  In fact I have 2 - of the same ipods and both suddenly quit syncing/charging.  Although I have used the same docking port on my mac for months ... I tried a different port and still nothing.  The ipod lights up with the apple screen and then goes to the home screen - but nothing happens after that.   ITunes shows no devices as well.  The ipod just eventually goes to sleep.
Thanks in advance for your help.

  • IPod Touch not charging in dock

I have a Sony dock but my iPod won't charge in the dock
Running iOS 5 ,iPod 4, the dock model # is CMT-BX20i
    Thanks in advance  Logan0916

Ive dug around in both my ipod slot and the docking slot and got a tiny bit of dust out of there but that didn't make any difference. I then tried it back on the dock in my tv which worked fine, and then tried it on a friends ipod dock, where it also worked.
Also, earlier, it worked for about 10 minutes before displaying the message about my ipod not working on this accessory. Is it more likely to be a problem with the ipod dock? And that i should try and get a replacement dock?

  • Ipod Touch not picking up any wifi signal

I have a 4th generation Ipod, and it was working perfectly fine yesterday!
I got wifi signal all the way up to my second story room without any problems, and its been like that for years!
But as of yesterday afternoon, its not connecting to any networks, and I have to literally sit on top of the modem to get 2 bars of connection at least!
It does this to any other place I go with wifi too. This problem just occured out of no where.
I reset my modem. . Nothing.
I reset my ipod network settings. .  Nothing.
I even restored my ipod. .  NOTHING!
What the heck do I do now?
Please any help and advice would be appreciated

  • Ipod Touch not playing on any speakers!

If anyone can help me with this, it would be greatly appreciated. I have a 16GB ipod touch from 2008. It has been working great until yesterday, when I brought it into work, put it on the iluv dock and it visually looked like it was playing, but no music was coming out. Naturally, I thought something was wrong with the speakers. So, the next day, I brought in the one I use at home, which is a handheld Memorex dock/speaker system and it will play intermittently at best. I have blown on the ipod, the speakers, to see if that would maybe clean it out somehow but it hasn't helped. If anyone has had any experience with this or could suggest any ways that I might be able to fix it, I would really appreciate it. Thanks so much!

  • My ipod touch not charging. what should i do ?

ive tried charging my ipod touch for the last few days but for some reason wont. what should i do ?

A reset may help. Push and hold the Sleep/On/Off button and Home button at the same time for approximately 10-15 seconds. Ignore the slide to turn off indicator and release buttons when the Apple logo reappears.

Backing up an iOS device will copy some data to a backup file within iTunes, but this excludes all media.  You can also transfer iTunes Store purchases from the iDevice to iTunes but, without using a third-party tool, nothing else.  As long as you do not sync the iPod with your new library, the media that's on it will remain ... for as long as it keeps functioning, is not lost, stolen, eaten by the dog, ...
You may also have an option to recover your previous library from your old laptop; as long as its hard drive isn't fried, a computer repair store or technician may be able to extract the drive, mount it in an external enclosure, and copy your data to another PC.  Whatever you choose, there is no real alternative to having all your media on your computer, managed by iTunes, and regularly backed up to another device/location.
