IPod Touch, update 2.0 and Pismo Mac

I have been searching for answers, tried many potential remedies, and nothing has done the trick--here is where I am at--
I have an 8gb iPod touch--it would not work at all with my 400mhz Pismo through USB 1.1 (got the 0xE8000001 error message). So, I put the IPT into recovery mode and re-installed the software on it (1.5.1). It showed up in iTunes after that and let me transfer music and such.
Then, I went ahead and purchased the 2.0 update--it downloaded fine, went through the install, but then as the IPT restarted to finish the install process, iTunes gave me the 0xE8000001 error again.
I then connected the IPT to my iMac 500mhz computer on a USB 1.1 port with a powered 2.0 hub. I put the IPT into recovery mode and installed 2.0 anew. It was recognized by my iMac and works great, albeit a bit slow.
I then purchased a USB 2.0 PCI card for my Pismo. Either directly connected to the card, or via a powered 2.0 hub, I get the 0xE8000001 error. My question is, how can I get my Pismo to recognize my IPT? I am running 10.4.11 and have all the updates that Software Update offers--

As I see it, there are three things different between the iMac (where it works) and the Pismo.
1. The hardware is different - Nothing you can do about that.
2. The user account is different - As a test, create a new admin user in System Preferences Accounts pane. Log out and log in to the new user account. See if it works under the new user. First, try the iPod using the built-in USB ports, where you say it worked before.
3. The system installation is different - You can try installing a fresh installation of Mac OS X on an external FireWire drive and booting from it. After updating the installation to 10.4.11 and the latest Apple apps, try the iPod using the built-in USB ports, where you say it worked before. This will also give you a fresh installation of the latest iTunes to try it with, in case your current iTunes installation has some unknown problem.
As an alternative to (3), you can start up the iMac in FireWire Target Disk Mode.
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1661
Connect it to the Pismo using a FireWire cable, and the iMac's hard drive should appear as an external drive. Using System Preferences +Startup Disk+ pane, set the startup disk to be the iMac's hard drive. Restart. See if it works with the iPod when using the same system installation that works on the iMac.

  • Syncing ipod touch to one pc and one mac?

I have an ipod touch (3rd gen, version 4.0) that has on it right now almost 600 apps and a ton of songs and video I purchased from iTunes from my ipod. I always sync my touch to my PC (XP) at home. But now my PC has died and I don't know when I'll be able to get a new one or get the old one fixed. Meanwhile would it be possible to sync to my Mac at work (OS X version 10.4.11)? Will I lose my apps and/or purchased music? I'm not too concerned with my calendar, contacts, pictures or music from CDs, mostly just the apps and music purchased through my ipod. If it's possible to do this, could someone please tell me exactly how I should do it?
I apologize if this has already been asked, but I can't find any answers.

basically, an iPod Touch can sync with only one library @ a time. if you sync it to another library, the content would be wiped.
however, if you configure the Touch to +manually manage music and videos+, you can connect it to any iTunes library.
to prevent a sync when plugging in the iPod, hold down the option and the command ( on a PC that would be the shift and ctrl ) keys when plugging in the iPod - keep pressing the keys until the iPod is listed under the devices list in iTunes.
next, go to the summary tab and enable the option to +manually manage+
now you can put content on the device (and vice versa) by drag & drop.

  • New iPod Touch update deletes everything

When installing new iPod Touch update, all songs and photos were deleted. Restore from back up you say? I tried, and iTunes said it was backing everything up before it installed the update but when it didn't, This isn't really a question, but Apple needs to fix this for future updates.

The backup that iTunes makes does not include music, and other items like synced photos that are synced to the iPod.  If these items are not on the computer/iTunes library on the computer on which the update was performed, the items will not be on the iPod after the update.  The following lists what is included in the backup.

I presume you mean to say that the iPad is not being recognised in iTunes! If so,
Firstly, make sure that your device is not hidden (left hand pane). If it just reads device then toggle between SHOW and HIDE.
Secondly, try all the other ports on your computer, even a number of times.
Thirdly, make sure your lead /connections are not faulty.
Fourthly, if you have another computer try plugging your device into it without taking any action, give it a moment, remove it and try it back in your other computer again.
Failing all that, see here - http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538 for Windows and http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1591 for Macs
And failing all that put the device into Recovery mode. See here and note the paragraph 'If you restore from a different computer.... ' down near the bottom of the page -

    Does the iPod work OK?
Does it charge when connect to the computer?
Does it appear in My Computer?
Look at the dock connector on the iPod. Compare with the iPod that does work/connect.
I suspect you have a 2G iPod. Those can only go to iOS 4.2.1

  • Battery on brand new iPod touch drains when synced to a mac and now it won't charge. If you're thinking of buying a new iPod touch, don't bother. The batteries don't work.

The battery on my son's brand new 64G iPod touch drained while it was synced yo the mac. Now it says 100% charged when it's connected to a charger, but drops to zero as soon as it's disconnected. It would appear that, either the battery is faulty or the battery indicator is faulty. iPod batteries are not supposed to drain while syncing. And rechargeable batteries are supposed to recharge after they have drained. Maybe I'm missing something simple here, does anyone know what it is?

    Hi msclaude,
Welcome to the Support Communities!  I'm not sure from your post what steps you have tried, but it sounds like you may need to use recovery mode to address the issue with your unresponsive iPod touch.

If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
You can put your iOS device into recovery mode, then restore it using iTunes.
    Use recovery mode
You might need to use recovery mode to restore your device in these cases:
iTunes doesn't recognize your device or says it's in recovery mode.
You see the Apple logo onscreen for several minutes with no progress bar.
You see the Connect to iTunes screen.
Learn what to do if you see the progress bar onscreen for several minutes.
To put your device into recovery mode, follow these steps:
Turn off your device and leave it off.
Plug in your device's USB cable to a computer with iTunes.
Hold down the Home button on your device as you connect the USB cable. Keep holding down the Home button until you see the Connect to iTunes screen.
When you see this screen, release the Home button. If you don't see this screen, try steps 1 through 3 again.
When your device is connected, iTunes will open. You'll see a message saying that iTunes has detected an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch in recovery mode.
Use iTunes to restore your device. Restoring in recovery mode will erase your device. If you previously synced with iTunes or iCloud, you might be able to restore from your backup.Get more help
Learn what to do if you don't see your device in iTunes for OS X, or in iTunes for Windows.
If you put your device into recovery mode by mistake, restart it. Or you can wait 15 minutes and your device will exit recovery mode by itself.
I hope this information helps ....

how can i get this ipod reset.  She now has an iphone so this is going to be used by someone else in the family and should be simple to do but itunes just keeps booting it out even though it recognises that it was previously connected to our itunes account as all of the children were on my account

That has nothing to do with an update server. Do the following:
Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

  • I just updated my ipod touch to ios 6 and it is still telling me to update to ios 4.3. Help, I can't download any APS

I just updated my ipod touch to ios 6 and it is still telling me I need to update to ios 4.3
    Help?

I've spent most of the last two days trying to restore from back-ups and set up as new and neither worked. iTunes stopped recognizing it AS an iPod at one point so I tried reinstalling iTunes to make sure it was all up to date but it's still doing the same thing. Freezes or disconnects during sync or throws up an error message and 95% of the music that "has" synced is greyed out and not playable. I'm assuming the update has a bug cos these forums are full of problems people are having since the update, I had no issues with anything before this upgrade was installed.

My iphone 3gs wont update. itunes and ipod touch update no problem, my GF has exact same phone and hers updated also...any advice?

If I was in your shoes, I would choose to restore the iPhone with iTunes and then choose to NOT restore a previous backup.  I'd then go on to set up the phone as though it were totally new, and choose the stuff to load onto it.
The reason I'd go through that trouble.. even though it meant losing a lot of settings and having to set stuff up again .. is because I wasn't sure I could trust the backup that it's restoring from.
If you have trouble again after doing the fresh reload -- especially if it's soon after you do it -- you may have a hardware issue with the phone, such as faulty flash memory or a processor chip that's failing. If that's the case, you'll want to consider your repair/replacement options at that point.
