  • IPod Updater Fails Windows Logo test

    Just bought an iPod.
While attempting to install iPod Updater 2006-06-28, I receive a message indicating that the software does not pass the Windows Logo test. Initially, I had the software installed anyway which, in turn, rendered my computer significantly dysfunctional in a number ways. After doing a system restore, I did not have the Updater software installed which, of course, means that my iPod cannot be accessed through iTunes.
Any ideas on what I need to do to solve this?

with that one, it might be a good idea to check on the possibilities from this document:

  • IPod Update Failed - Touch is now frozen - Help!

I opened a brand new 8GB iPod Touch today and it seemed to work fine. Then it seemed like apps that I bought and downloaded were not working correctly. Every time I clicked on an app it would go right back to the home screen. So I decided to update the iPod software. iTunes downloaded the update fine and then it went through the installation process on the iPod. At the end it said that the iPod just had to restart and it would be finished. However it never restarted. Now whenever I try to turn it on all I see on the screen of the iPod is an image of the little white USB connector and an arrow pointing to the iTunes logo (CD with a blue note). I have tried holding down the power button and completely turning it off and back on again but that doesn't help. My computer doesn't recognize the iPod so I can't do anything in iTunes. Help! What can I do? How can I get the iPod to finish the update of the iPod software?
    Corey

Well, I was able to get the iPod working again by rebooting the PC and then connecting. I don't know why - but that fixed it. The computer could see the iPod again and it finished the update. However I still have the problem where the iPod can not run any of the apps that I downloaded and installed today. When I click on them it opens the app for like 1 second and then immediately goes back to the home screen. I notice a ton of other people here with the same problem. Help Apple!

  • TS1538 help! my ipod update failed now is stuck in recovery

if anybody could help id really appreciate it. i've tried all the steps on apple help but nothing is working. its stuck on the recovery screen and isnt showing in itunes, its driving me crazy! wish i hadnt bothered with the update now

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Second sync of iPod 5G fails, Right Click Sync or Apply

When I first plug my iPod 5G into my Mac Pro, it automatically updates, like it should. When I right click on the iPod in iTunes and click "Sync," however, iTunes says updating iPod, but the iPod itself does nothing. Eventially I get a message in the top window in iTunes: "iPod update failed. Disconnect and reconnect, then try again."
The same issue happens if I also make any changes to the iPod preferences in iTunes and click Apply.
This issue started last week under iTunes 6, and continues under iTunes 7.
I tried a full reset of the iPod, trash of all iPod and iTunes prefs, Premission Fix, and the issue continues.
All latest firmware and system updates.
    Any thoughts??
    Thanks, Scott K.

    Tweekme-
I get the same error with my 30G video iPod. It will update normally when first plugged in but if I make any changes and click "apply" then the link times out and I get "The settings could not be saved because the iPod can not be found."
The iPod icon is in my device list and I can browse it's contents.
I am flying out this afternoon and have desperately been trying to add some videos to watch since last night! I will try to restore the iPod and re-load the most recent software. (I already ran the 1.2 upgragde)

  • Tried to update ipod Touch 4th Generation, Update Failed, iPod won't work

So less than twenty minutes ago I tried to update my iPod touch, knowing it had been asking this for a few days. The update failed, as as of now my iPod Touch is stuck on the picture of the iPod cable with an arrow pointing at the iTunes symbol. I've tried holding the two buttons to force it to shut off, it does- when I turn it on I get the apple logo so I know it turned on, only to get it again. When plugged into my computer, it is not recognized by anything. Going to Computer it doesn't see it as plugged in, and on iTunes nothing comes up with connected objects. This happened to me once in the past and I had to go to the Apple Store to have it fixed... can anyone tell me what to do so I don't have to go to them, or am I gonna have to take some time and drive over to have them take a look at it? Also, when removing my iPod from the computer, i get the sound that you get when you remove something from your computer, meaning it knows it's plugged in, just not reading it for some reason.
Thank you very much to anyone that can help!
If this is posted in the wrong area, this is my first loggin- sorry if I screwed up, mind telling me if I did?

iPod Touch 4G 32GB. I had same problem when I tried updating iOS; iTunes says restoring iPod, but after a while gives error 1603. I tried all suggestions from support: recovery mode, other USB ports, disconnect all other devices, uninstall and reinstall apple s/w and drivers, disable all other services using msconfig, confirm USB are 2.0, re-download updated software, reboot computer, name it! I finally installed iTunes on old Dell Inspiron P4 running XP, plugged iPod in it and device got recovered immediately! Put it back in Win7 computer and performed backup restore. Everything is back as it was. I have no idea what prevents s/w update on main computer. I realized I never get "waiting for iPod" message during attempt to restore, while I do on old Dell. I wonder what triggers this message.

  • I have just tried to update my ipod touch and the update failed but it has locked my ipod.  All I get is a picture of the itunes logo and the usb lead

I have just tried to update my ipod touch and the update failed but it has locked my ipod.  All I get is a picture of the itunes logo and the usb lead.  I am unable to get the ipod to move and I don't know what to do.  I think I should be recompenced by Apple if I have to pay to get it fixed!

The logo is saying connect it to your computer with iTunes installed on the computer.  I assume when yo do this that the iPod is not seen in iTunes. to make iTunes appear try:
    - Resetting the iPod:
Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Place the iPod in recovery mode.  See:
iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to update or restore
    - Place the iPod in DFU mode:
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
If the iPod appears in iTunes restore the iPOd.  If not I would make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • Update failed Ipod Touch locked on USB Connetion screen

32 GB iPod touch failed to update to lates software. All I get on the iPod screen is the iTunes logo with the USB cord.  Tried to reset by holding down "Home" button and Power button.  Screen starts with apple logo for 4 seconds, flashes white, then goes back to apple logo.  When released comes backup with iTunes logo and USB cord on screen again.
    Any Suggestions?

So you tried recovery mode using the exact instructions in the Apple support document above?
How about connecting the device to iTunes in DFU mode?

"iTunes could not contact the iPod software update server because you are not connected to the Internet."
That is very funny because without the internt iTunes wouldn't even be able to get the information that an update is available....
So the diagnosis doesnt help anything either but I am posting it, maybe somebody has a idea:

  • 2.1 update failed, now Ipod won't work

So I foolishly paid the 10 bucks to download the new 2.1 update for my ipod touch, and at the end I got an error saying the update failed. So, I have tried to restore, and it gets through the whole process, then gets stuck on "veryfing ipod software...". I'm pretty sure something is wrong because the ipod turns off. Now I can't use my ipod at all. What can I do if I can't get it to restore? THe nearest Apple store is an 8 hour drive?

Are you trying to upgrade to 2.0 in your new user account as well? If not, try that, so iTunes downloads a new copy of that software installer, just in case the one downloaded on your normal user account is somehow damaged or unusable.
If the Apple store isn't convenient, you can call Apple or go online to set up mail in service. They basically send you a box to send your iPod back to them, and then send a replacement out.

  • HELP! Firmware update failed, need to extract data from unreadable iPod

Please HELP! I have important data on my iPod that I need to preserve. Here's what I did:
    * downloaded newest iPod software and used the iPod Updater. It assured me the the "Update" process does not touch songs/data on my iPod
    * clicked the Update button. The update failed, citing error writting data to disk.
    * now my iPod will not boot up (folder icon), on top of that it will not mount even in Disk Mode (claims it's unformatted).
    * iPod Updater now offers only the Restore option
I absolutelly NEED to get the data of my iPod if I am to restore it. The data should still be on the disk (even if the firmware is damadged), it's just a matter of gaining access to it.
    Any chances?
    iPod video Windows XP

    Good luck.
Sounds like a problem I had with a camera card - and I lost the pictures, and I have yet to restore the camera card - it's still dead, won't even format.
Take it someplace where they specialize in data recovery - for high fees....

  • IOS5.0.1 for iPod Touch 4 update failed

    Hello,
I urgently need your assistance on this issue.
I tried to Download and Update to iOS5.0.1 in my laptop.  Since the update will take approximately 5 hours, I left my laptop with my itouch connected to it for a couple of hours.  When I got back, I received an error message (which I can't remember exactly) telling me thatthe update failed.  I think it failed on the part wherein the update is being installed in my itouch since the screen is showing the Apple sign with the status bar on it.  Now, even if I try ti continue the update, iTunes is not recognizing the itouch nor can I turn off my itouch.
I did a back up of my itouch before I downloaded it.
Please help. Any help or advise will be greatly appreciated.
    Vanessa

Hahahahaha!  Got my own answer to my question.
1: Plug your iPod into your computer.
2: Hold the "HOLD" and the "MENU" button until the iPod goes black and shows the Apple logo again then release the buttons.
    3: Wait about 5-15 minutes.
4: Your computer will make a "CHIME" sound and then the iPod will show the locked screen with the battery logo
Let me know if this helps.
    COOL!

  • IPod Mini failed with iPod Updater 2005-06-26 & iTunes 4.9

Has anyone experienced iPod mini first generation failing completely (running low on batteries) after installing the iPod Updater 2005-06-26 & iTunes 4.9?
My iPod mini showed "Low battery sign please recharge" after being fully charged shortly after I installed the latest updater and iTunes 4.9. My iPod mini would show low battery status after playing 5 minutes or less. After several attempts to reinstall the latest update and iTunes software, I resolved the issue by reverting back to the original iPod Updater 2004-04-28 and iTunes 4.5. Now my iPod functions as before with the expected battery life.

Yeah, I didn't download it for that reason. I like my itunes the way they are. My iPod didn't work with the other one. So, I restored it. I don't plan to change my iTunes until i know for sure the new one is fool proof.

Not with your current user id.
Far too much uneccesary information in your post, which only confuses things, a vast amount!
    Let's start with iTunes.
Have you updated iTunes to 11.1.5, because the previous version did appear to have an issue about seeing iPods?
With iTunes 11.1.5 installed, look in Edit/Preferences/Devices, (or use the ALT key, followed by the E key and then the F key) and make sure that the box named Prevent iPods, iPhones and iPads from syncing automatically does not have a tick in the box.
Once you have doen those two things, check to see if the iPod is seen by iTunes.

By the way, what does IOS mean? (I thought IO stood for operating system, but am flummoxed by the S on the end.
    Really?
OS stands for Operating System. (In computer speak, IO means Input/Output.)
iOS originally stood for iPhone Operating System, but it now refers to the iPod Touch and iPhone. The iPod Classic, which you have listed in your profile as your iPod, does not use iOS.
I assume that you have been listening to the Podcast in your iTunes on the computer as you cannot transfer it to your iPod. It's what I'd do.

    Try:
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Next connect to iTunes and update via iTunes. Others have had the same problem.
