IPod Video not recognized by iTunes

hello,
I just got my iPod Video 60G. I currently have USB 1.1 as part of my computer. When I plug it in to any of those ports, iPod works fine. However, I decided to get a PCI USB 2.0 card so I can improve the performance of the iPod. When I plug the iPod in those USB ports, the iPod does not get picked up in iTunes. As well, it only shows as a Generic Drive in MyComputer, as opposed to the name that was assigned to the iPod like it does when I plug it into the USB 1.1 ports.
I'm not sure if this is an iPod issue or a USB port issue. I tried plugging other devices into these USB drives and they work fine.
I don't want to start removing and resetting things before I know what the problem is.
Please help...
Thanks.
  Windows XP

Try reinstalling the iPod software and then connect your iPod in the USB2. Maybe the software picks up what connection you have and currently only will recognize the USB1.

Trond

  • IPod video not recognized by iTunes after bad disconnect

I recently disconnected my iPod without ejecting it first, (disk mode is enabled), and I had done it a few times before without a problem, so I figured why not. But this time it didn't work out. All of my music, videos etc are seemingly erased from the iPod, and only one thing remains - the few notes files (song lyrics) that I had on it. The iPod is no longer recognized in iTunes.. but I suppose windows recognizes it, except it seems to treat it just as a mass storage device or something. I ran the diagnostics test here:

I can't restore it because it doesn't show up in iTunes, and I've tried all the support suggestions on the main page. Anyone have any idea what the problem is?

Ok, since my last post I messed around a bit more. I found that dragging the F drive that the iPod was in from windows explorer to iTunes that iTunes recognized it, but said it was corrupted. So I tried to restore it, but I got error 1418. So I reset my computer, tried restoring again, and it worked. I thought I had it figured out but iTunes says its still corrupted. I figure this is something I'm certainly going to have to send to apple to have fixed?

  • My ipod is not recognized by itunes. Menus missing in itunes.

After I updated my ipod and my itunes, now the ipod is not recognized in itunes.  I went through all the recommended steps; starting and stopping various programs on my control panel, turning ipod on and off, checking cables - everything short of standing on my head.  In the process of all that,  I realized that the menu/task bar on the upper left side of the itunes page was gone. It wasn't there when I started this odyssey and it still isn't there..  I uninstalled and installed itunes again. I have Windows 8. Still no menu and still not recognizing the ipod. My ipod is 32gb touch screen.  Probably 3 years old or so. Was working fine before the updates......
    Thanks!!!

    Hi All,
I tried to download the update and iTunes doesn't work at all! It won't even open. I have tried all of the steps above but still no joy.
Any help would be much appreciated as I have been on this for one week already.
Close to my wits end and moving back to a Sony and trying Android for the very first time.
    Thanks in advance.

    - Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.

    Hello,
The cord might be the case, but first, try these suggestions:
Try putting your iPod into disk mode, then try connecting it to your computer again...
<a href="How to put your iPod into disk mode</a>
Do you have a wall charger? If so, then try connecting your iPod to that, and does it charge, or not?

  • IPod generation not recognized in iTunes

My iPod isn't recognized as being fifth generation when I plug it in. The summary page of the iPod in iTunes has a n/a under the categories of serial number and software version. This deletes all the video from my ipod when I eject it as well as not allowing me to get to my music (even though my music is still on there). It simply displays "All" when I try to go to my music then there is nothing when I click that.
In order to get my computer to recognize my ipod I have to keep unplugging it and plugging it back in and it takes forever to recognize it.
Also, when I have tried to fix the problem by restoring it, when it puts the music back on it comes up with "the disk cannot be read from or written to" I have no idea what to do. Please help.
