IPods Open Doors

I have looked before asking, so I feel safe posting this brainteaser.
I have had my IPod for over a year and a half without any problems up until a few weeks ago. I forgot my charger at home and used my friends Apple to fill my battery. The problem was his comp automatically formated my IPod over to mac settings. No problem I thought to myself and went home to restore it to factory settings. When I finished restoring I went to reload all my music back onto the IPod. This is where the problems begin.
I'm using an older model IPod, 15gb with the 4 buttons and the scroll btw. When the IPod reaches the 1.24 mark an error message pops up saying "The drive is not ready for use, its door may be open. Please check drive \device\harddisk2\DR4 and make sure that a dirk is inserted and that the drive door is closed" and I have 3 options which are Cancel, Try Again and Continue. They all result in ITunes freezing up until I unplug my IPod.
I have tried the "5 R's" many times with no luck. I have also tried it on another friends PC with no luck. I was sure this was a hardware issue until I spoke to apple customer service, where the helpful man gave me a hint saying that it wasnt hardwear issue and that I could do something else. As we all know though you have to pay 60 dollars to find out what that something is.
So thats the problem any help would really be liked. Wierd issue that I havent been able to figure out so please ladies and gents what are your thoughts?

Yes, my warrenty is also up. So clearly I am not the only other person having these problem. Could you elaborate on the details of what is happening with your IPod? Maybe it'll be able to find a connection between the two.

    Hi @serta1 ,
I see by your post that you keep getting a error for a jam in the cartridge area. I would like to help you resolve this issue.
I would do a hard reset to see if that will resolve the issue.
Leave the printer on and unplug the power cable from the printer and wall outlet for 60 seconds.
Then reconnect the power cable to the printer and wall outlet rather than a surge protector.
This ensures the printer is receiving full power and may help this situation.
I would double check to make sure a tiny piece of paper isn't stuck inside the toner area. Remove the toner and use a flashlight. Just to rule that out.
Please check your private messages for additional steps to try.

  • Can not see videos with open door

    Hello
Im using open door as one of my browser , before i was able to open videos but now i couldnt , i want to know that i have to download another app or how can open videos with open door
    thanks

No idea what open door is.
I know it isn't an Apple product, so your best bet is to find the developer's website and get help from them.

  • My ipod opens apps but the apps closes by themselves

My ipod touch doesn't have the apps open by a good time , when i open one it closes by itself and my ipod doesnt have a month since i bought it so please help me resolving my problem i can't even browse things in safari

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
If the Restore doesn't help, call Apple.  Your device is only a month old and you shouldn't have to jump through hoops.

  • Usb laser printing, HD's with integral hubs, and open doors to network?

Bought a N capable base station and an airport express this week as I have multiple minis and a macbook and wish to put my itunes onto a central drive and use wireless printing.
Spent an “interesting” evening last night setting up, and I seem to have worked out how to use itunes via aliases etc.
But – when I try to print, the dialogue box comes up, the laser printer (Samsung 2550) starts up, but fails to print.
My set up is as follows – Iomega 320gb mini HD (powered) plugged into the USB on the base station and then the laser and my inkjet plugged into the USB sockets on the HD (its one of those which has an integral USB and FW hub built in).
Now, as it was very late in the evening, I didn’t do any more trouble shooting, but am intrigued as to why the printer would not print. The log says that the print job has been completed, but nothing comes out. I disconnected the printers from the hd hub and then disconnected the HD. I then plugged the printer directly into the base station, but it still doesn’t work.
Annoyingly enough, the printer worked fine the previous night when I was using it with the usb on the airport express alone (hadn’t bought the base station at this point).
The computer(s) “see” the laser printer without difficulty, so I see no reason why it should not print using the base station.
One thing which occurs to me is to plug a powered USB hub into the base station, and then separately plug the HD and the Laser into sockets on this hub, rather than using the integral hub of the HD. Again, I cant see why this should be necessary but I’ll give it a try.
    Any thoughts re this?
    One Last Thing…
The main reason for buying the kit is to cover a “weak spot” in the house for wifi. Hence the idea was to connect my modem/router via Ethernet to the base station, and then use the airport express as a WDS to effectively re-broadcast the signal and hopefully provide maximum signal strength throughout the house.
My question is – having used the airport utility to do this, am I right in presuming that the airport express then becomes effectively “invisible” and hence when I use my mini in the weak spot to log onto a network via airport, I should only see the SSID of my main base station (although in reality I will be accessing it via the airport express). I think this must be right because when I added the airport express the signal strength in the weak area of the house went to the max.
My base station uses WAP protection but I don’t appear to have any protection set up on the airport express (which I realise is a router in its own right). Do I need to add protection to the airport express to prevent access to my overall network? In otherwords, is an unprotected airport express acting as a WDS, effectively an open back door to the network? Would a neighbour etc be able to pick up my network SSID being broadcast by the airport express and log onto that without the WAP password?
Finally what is the difference between the airport express being a remote or a relay station. I would have thought that to act as a network extender, it should be set to relay, but the default appears to be remote. The Apple help sections don’t appear to distinguish between functionality, merely state the options.
    Any help/advice gratefully accepted
    Airport extreme, mac minis

    I then plugged the printer
directly into the base station, but it still doesn’t
    work.
You need to get this to work first. Otherwise forget it to work with a Hub. Turn the printer on FIRST. Then turn on the base station.
One thing which occurs to me is to plug a powered USB
hub into the base station, and then separately plug
the HD and the Laser into sockets on this hub, rather
than using the integral hub of the HD. Again, I cant
see why this should be necessary but I’ll give it a
    try.
Direct connection and powered USB Hub are the only supported configurations by Apple. I've had no problem with attaching up to 7 separate devices on a $20 powered hub. Having a "integrated hub" like you describe may theoretically work, but it is not the same thing as a separate hub.
My question is – having used the airport utility to
do this, am I right in presuming that the airport
express then becomes effectively “invisible” and
hence when I use my mini in the weak spot to log onto
a network via airport, I should only see the SSID of
my main base station (although in reality I will be
accessing it via the airport express).
If you use WDS or "extend" the network, all base stations will still broadcast the SSID.
My base station uses WAP protection
You must mean WEP or WPA. There is no WAP protection.
    but I don’t
appear to have any protection set up on the airport
express (which I realize is a router in its own
right). Do I need to add protection to the airport
express to prevent access to my overall network? In
other words, is an unprotected airport express acting
as a WDS, effectively an open back door to the
network? Would a neighbor etc be able to pick up my
network SSID being broadcast by the airport express
and log onto that without the WAP password?
Yes, even if you turn SSID broadcast off, the SSID is broadcasted during the transactions and it will be easily detected using iStumbler. An yes you are letting a nice open back door for your neighbors.

  • Ipod opens new window

When I connect my iPod, Windows opens a new window that looks like an external device (USB Drive for instance). It never did this before. iPod is NOT set for disk use. Any ideas/solutions to get rid of this annoyance?

    hmmmm.
check to see if there's a Windows AutoPlay setting engaged on one of the file types on the ipod. enable disk use. then right-click on the ipod in "My Computer" and select "properties". go to the autoplay tab. make sure for each of those entries in the pull-down menu that you've got "always prompt" selected. once you've got that okay, disable disk use again. try another connect.
does that get rid of this?

  • Ipod opening in F drive

I have a classic ipod. Recently I used it in China. However, when I plug it into a computer now, it opens in F drive, but not the more convenient E drive. How can I switch it back?

Your instructions helped, but the underlining problem is still there. I thought opening it in another drive would solve it.
When I plug my ipod into any computer, I have to open Word to get to my files. Previously, a window would open and I would click directly (as pone can with any drive), but now the route is indirect, and I can never get a window showing all my files. At least not directly.

    For wifi problem:
Does the iOS device connect to other networks? If yes that tend to indicate a problem with your network.
Does the iOS device see the network?
    Any error messages?
    Do other devices now connect?
Did the iOS device connect before?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on your router

  • "This drive is not ready for use; it's door may be open ..."

    Hi.
I recently updated to itunes 7, and then had an issue with a corrupt file on the i-pod (which resulted in chkdsk hanging itself at 27%, always). So I restored the i-pod and that took care of that - chkdsk now says it's fine.
However - it is also empty. My machine and i-tunes recognize it fine upon start-up; however, a short while into a full synch to get my library back on the i-pod, I invariably get the following error message:
"The drive is not ready for use; it's door may be open. Please check drive \Device\Harddisk\DR 3 and make sure that a disk is inserted and that the drive door is closed." The message comes with the options "cancel, ignore and continue", yet the latter two don't make a difference, and even if I choose cancel, itunes keeps trying until it eventually crashes.
This always happens after itunes has synchronized about 1.13 GB (out of 18.55 available).
As far as I can tell, both my system and the iPod are up to date (itunes and windows update say so, anyway). E: is unequivocally and exclusively allocated to the i-pod; changing the settings from "optimize for quick removal" to "optimize for performance" has made no discernible difference.
Any ideas would be very much appreciated.
    Thanks.
    DELL Inspiron 4150   Windows XP

    Hullo ...
let me follow up on this again. I've followed your advice, de-installed spybot, no change. I looked through the windows support help base, nothing. While trying out different things, I started getting a "delayed write failed" message, and I did some things they suggested (including adjusting the registry - me, adjusting the registry!)and it went away, and now all I get is the "open door" message again.
That is: everything works absolutely fine, I plug in the i-pod (latest version i-tunes and i-pod is up to date), it's recognized instantly by the explorer as well as i-tunes. I've run all scans you can possibly run on it, and it is fine (no corrupt files, nothing). I've restored it twice through i-tunes, twice through the explorer. I've changed the drive letter.
It starts the synch fine (it's still almost empty after the last restore), but at some point, I get the error message. Interestingly enough, *up to* that point, it'll synch fine - I can disconnect it and play on it whatever's been synched thus far. I can also modify my i-tunes settings and preferences, all of which i-tunes will recognize and adhere to. It is just unwilling to put more than 1GB of stuff onto my 20GB i-pod.
Something I've noticed is that it is sometimes indicating apparently faulty charges in the beginning (though that is quickly corrected once the synch starts), as in, it'll recognize a certain amount of audio files, but also claim a random amount of "other" files, which should not be there (apart from the 30MB or so of genuine i-pod software).
Anyhow. I haven't seen any solutions to this on the forums or in the apple help files, but people appear to be having this problem still. Any ideas or input would be very much appreciated ...
    Thanks.
