IPodService module crash when iTunes 10 is in installation process

OS: Win XP pro with service pack 3 32bit
iPodService module crash when iTunes 10 is in installation process. System says that they can't run module. iTunes is run but work incorrect (for example I can't postpone my purchases from the phone to iTunes). I think that the problem of incompatibility of iPodService module with Servise Pack 3.

I am having the same problem. I am running Windows XP SP3. I got the same message about not being able to start the iPodService. It offered me the chance to ignore the problem so I did. Big mistake. iTunes seemed to work ok until I tried to upgrade to OS 4.1 on my iPhone. Apparently the service was needed for that because the ugrade failed and my iPhone is completely hosed. I can't use it at all.
I uninstalled iTunes 10 and tried to find iTunes 9.2.1 on the Apple site but can not find it anywhere. I can only find the Mac version. I found the Windows version of 9.1.1 iTunes. So I downloaded and installed it.
When I started iTunes 9.1.1 it complained that the library file was created with a later version of iTunes (makes sense because I had version 10 installed). So I deleted all the itl files. This blew away my library of course which ***** but I figured I could recreate it.
So when I hooked my iPhone up, I tried to do a restore on it so I could get my iPhone going again. No luck. I got a message saying that it rquires at least iTunes 9.2.1.
So now I am COMPLETELY SCREWED. My iPhone is dead in the water. My iTunes library is gone. And I see no way forward.
iTunes 9.1.1 won't work for restoring my dead iPhone
iTunes 9.2.1 for windows cannot be found anywhere on the apple site as far as I an tell. (would love to be proven wrong on this!)
iTunes 10 won't install on my machine.
I looked at the system event messages in windows XP. In the application events I see:
Faulting application ipodservice.exe, version 10.0.0.68, faulting module ntdll.dll, version 5.1.2600.5755, fault address 0x0001b21a.
and
Product: iTunes -- Error 1920. Service 'iPod Service' (iPod Service) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services.
In the System events I see:
The iPod Service service failed to start due to the following error:
The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.
In the security events I see no errors or warnings, just info messages. None seem to be related to the iPhone or iTunes.
I disabled my Symantec Firewall and Antivirus. Did not seem to help the iTunes install. I'm gonna try again just to make sure

  • IPodService Module Crash on iTunes startup

Since upgrading to iTunes 10 iTunes does not auto open when i connect my 3GS iphone. as soon as I manually start the program a pop up appears stating that iPodService Module (32-bit) has encountered a problem and needs to close.
Luckily the sync to the phone will actually continue though.
    Error Signature info as below
    AppName: ipodservice.exe
    AppVer: 10.0.0.68
    ModName: ntdll.dll
    ModVer: 5.1.2600.5755
    Offset: 0001b21a

    Too bad I didn't see PapaPie's message.
I had upgraded to iTunes 10 a couple of weeks back and had gotten the iPodService module crash each time on restarting iTunes (or connecting my iphone). However my iphone continued to sync inspite of the crash.
So when 4.1 became available, I decided to do the upgrade. And ended up with a bricked phone.
On seeing PapaPie's message I went to the Apple Store and they restored the phone (to 4.1) using an existing computer but that wiped out all data.
However, I was able to connect it to iTunes 10 on my laptop again and do a restore to recover everything. And my iPhone is 4.1.
So - main problem (iphone bricked) was solved.
But I am still getting the iPodService crash each time I start iTunes 10 or connect my iphone.
I am running a Lenovo T400 with XP Pro SP3 and I did get an iPodService install error during the iTunes 10 install. I have tried with my Firewall and AV disabled (both Symantec) and reinstalling iTunes but there's still a problem.
In my services.msc (Run->services.msc) console, I still can't start ipodservice. Eventviewer shows a problem.

  • IPodService Module crashing

Since today I've had a problem with my iTunes, were everytime I connect my iPod (Photo) to the computer, an error box pops up saying there's something wrong wtih the iPodService Module, and just crashes.
    Error signature -
    szAppName : iPodService.exe szAppVer : 7.2.0.35

    C:\DOCUME~1\Shaun\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERf9d8.dir00\appcompat.txt
The problem ONLY happens when my iPod is connected either before starting iTunes, or after having started it.
Any help to get my iTunes uploading to the iPod again is greatly appreciated.

I’ve noticed others having this problem but have not seen and easy fix. One guy went and cleaned up his registry. I don’t think I should have to do that.
If you Device Manager is currently still blank, and the Symantec fix did not work for you, then that may be your best option for getting the iPod syncing again.
For the manual registry-editing technique, see the following Microsoft document:
Device Manager and Network Connections may be blank after you install Windows XP Service Pack 3
(If you can get your Device Manager displaying properly, the iPod Service Module crash should also go away.)

  • IPodService Module Crashes

Please, can anyone help me with this issue? It happened yesterday but I am not able to determine what it's really about. I'm using Windows XP and I have an 30GB 5G iPod.
First of all, iPod is recognized by my computer. You can see the iPod in My Computer and you can access files on it. When I start iTunes to manage the music on my iPod, a window suddenly comes in saying "iPodService Module has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
More details about the error: szAppName: iPodService.exe szAppVer: 7.0.2.16 szModName: iPodService.exe szModVer: 7.0.2.16 offset:00026332.
Did anyone experience such a problem? Can anyone help me? I've already reinstalled iTunes few times and formatted the iPod. It is completely useless if I can't copy my music and videos onto it.
Is there a way to contact Apple Support via e-mail and send them the error's MiniDump information?

"iPodService Module has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
let's get a crash log, and send it to the Apple engineers for a look.
Typically, you'll need to configure Dr. Watson on your PC in order to generate crash logs. Windows start menu -> Run. Type in "cmd". Hit return. At the prompt in the command line window that comes up, type in
    drwtsn32 -i
    And hit return.
This will create crash logs in Documents And Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Dr Watson\. There'll usually be a file in here called "drwtsn32.log"
prior to collecting the iPod Service Module crash log, delete any existing crash logs in there. (we want to make sure we send the correct crash log.)
Generate the crash, collect the crash log, and and send it as an attachment to this email address.
in the email to Roy, be sure to include the following information:
    - A link to the thread on Apple Discussions where the issue is being discussed
    - The username you are using in the thread
    - The version of iTunes you are using or trying to use
    - the version of Windows you are using (mention service packs)
    - A concise description of the issue you are seeing
    - The exact text of the error message you are seeing

  • Blue Screen Crash when iTunes version 9.2 accesses iTunes store

I have posted on a previous issue regardng blue screen crash when upgrading to iTunes v9.2 but have done a few other things to try to locate the problem.
Firstly, as this is a shared computer I used a colleagues login details to login into their desktop. Then opened iTunes from there. It opened perfectly normally and found and played music stored on the computer. However, as I had noticed that iTunes was crashing when I was logged in as it was trying to access the iTunes store I then tried to accesss the iTunes store from within iTunes on my colleagues desktop. Hey presto, blue screen crash with the following error:
    * STOP: 0x0000007E (0x0000005, 0xBF271800, 0xA811350c, 0xA8113208)
    * ati3duag.dll - Address BF271800 base at BF16B000, Datestamp 46eb3954
I then restarted my computer, unplugged it from the network and started iTunes in my desktop. It started normally with no problems. I even synchronised my iPhone without any problems to my music and Outlook (Calendar & Contacts).
I removed my iPhone, then tried to access the iTunes music store and guess what it went half way through the process and gave the Blue Screen error again.
Just for completeness sake I did the same thing using my colleagues desktop iTunes access and iTunes did the same thing again (without synching my phone obviously) and when trying to access the store it gets half way through, hangs and then it crashes.
    Any ideas???

    ati3duag.dll
You're having trouble with the drivers for your ATI Radeon video card or display adapter, lord.
If you've got a name brand PC and the video card or display adaptor came installed with the PC, head to the drivers and downloads page for your particular model of PC at the PC manufacturers website and try updating your video driver or display adaptor driver.
If the PC is custom/home-built, or you've added the Radeon to the system yourself, head to the AMD support website (AMD now owns ATI) and look for updated drivers for your particular model of video card or display adaptor.
If you're already up to date on your drivers, or updating didn't help with the BSOD, try heading into your Device manager and reinstalling your video drivers or Display adaptor drivers.
Do any of those measures give you any relief?

  • Statechart module: crashes when I want to save state

I am using the LV Statechart Module (version 8.6.0). LabVIEW crashes when I want to save a state (by clicking "OK" on the state dialog). The crash does only occur if I have some member VIs of a quite large class hierarchy in the state. It does not occur if I for example just wire through the simple error cluster that is part of my state data cluster.
Does anyone have an idea how I could avoid this problem?
The LabVIEW failure log file is attached.
Thanks in advance for any hint.

Looking at this quickly, I do not know the core root cause, but I am guessing that you could work around it by putting your guard or action code into a subVI and using that subVI instead of placing the code directly in the guard/action. Something appears to be going wrong as we try to commit the guard/action VI you created for the state - I am guessing there is a bug in this process as it encounters some of the class stuff you are using, and using a subVI to wrap it will avoid this.
Any chance you can provide the files needed to reproduce this (either here or privately if you prefer). The stack tells me a little bit but we'll have a much better chance of resolving this fully in a future release if we can reproduce it here.
    Thanks,
    Nick

  • Itunes crashes when iTunes Match runs its Step 3 (not before) - any ideas why and how to fix it?

Every time iTunes runs the iTunes Match, when iTunes MAtch gets to Step 3 - iTunes stops working - ie crashes. Any idea why and how to fix it? The songs are still uploaded to iCloud etc... but it crashe iTunes every single time

I cannot explain the failure, but I can tell you that I have a string of approx. 24 emails with Apple and a combined 10hrs of talk time with Apple customer reps that tried helping me precisely for the issue that iTunes Match would crash at Step 3 without fail. Apple even logged my Console and I was talking to an engineer that literally wrote part of the code for iTunes Match (that was the fourth and last level of customer care I was escalated to). The poor man almost quite his job, and I just about demanded a refund for my $25, since iTunes Match simply wasn't working.
Then I studied at a friend's place, and I noticed that all of a sudden, while iTunes was running in the background, half my library was already uploaded and things were progressing smoothly. It turns out that it had something to do with my modem specifically, as I had already hooked up my computer straight to the modem, taking the router (TimeCapsule) out of the equation. Nothing worked. Firewalls were turned off, no AntiVirus existed, and Apple engineers tried everything possible, incl. remote access on my computer, to get this to work. Nothing worked as long as I was connected to a Motorola Surboard.
At every other network, wether at Starbucks, my university, or at friends places, however, iTunes Match worked flawlessly.
After some research online, it turnes out that a handful of people with Motorola Surrboard Xtreme cable modems had similar issues. Eversince, I simply use my neighbors wifi should I need to upload songs, and I have no issues. Oddly enough, matching (not uploading) works just fine with my Motorola.
Don't ask me how or why, I am interested in computers and work with them a lot, but I am no engineer. I can tell you that simple scientific method pinpointed to the modem, and I haven't had issues since then.

I turned to AppleCare because it was less than 90 days since I ugraded Mac OS X 10.3 -> 10.5. Final solution was to re-install Mac OS X 10.5 erasing the hard drive totally! That helped, but there is a lot of work trying to re-build my computer (programs and files) as it was before this issue.

  • Solution found for Vista 64 Blue Screen Crash when  Itunes Sharing on.

After days of trial and error, I found the problem with my Windows based machine crashing (Blue Screen, IRQL error) when ATV would access ITunes through sharing. FYI, The blue screen error looked like a TCP/IP error.
The problem was with the AntiVirus software. I had to completly remove CA Security suite from my system. After removal, no problem to see library and share music, movies and pictures. Not sure what the conflict is, but apparently Itunes home sharing and Antivirus / Security software do not like each other.

  • PC crashes when itunes is installed and I connect my iphone

I am running Windows XP Home and just reformatted my hard drive in an effort to figure out why my pc would crash every time I hooked up my iphone 4S via USB. The pc screen would go black immediately and then the pc would reboot.
I have service pack 3 and all my windows updates are up to date. All my drivers are also up to date. I have not installed a printer, web cam, or other imaging device. I could now plug my iphone in via USB and windows xp recognized it as an image device and opened a folder with all of my iphone photos inside it.
However, as soon as I installed the latest version of itunes and tried to conect my iphone to synch, my pc crashed as it had before, with the black screen and reboot. As long as itunes is installed it does this every time.
I uninstalled itunes and my pc went back to recognizing the iphone as an image device and opens a folder with all of my iphone photos inside it.
Any thoughts on what's happening here?  I am stumped and don't know what else to try.  Thanks!  :-)

Is your computer a laptop computer or a desktop?
Look at the underside if it is a laptop and you should find the make/model. Look at the back if it is a desktop.
Even more basic, is it a Mac (Apple computer) or a PC?
To find the OS if it is a PC, do a restart when it reboots it should say WindowsXP or Windows Vista, or Windows 7. If it is a Mac click on the Apple in the top left hand corner then click on About this Mac. A window will open and you should find the OS version number, like 10.4.11 or 10.5.8.

  • Itunes 11.2 on win64bit crashes when Itunes Match starts sync

    Dear all,
this problem is driven me crazy.
All started when I decided to upgrade my Itunes from 11.1 to 11.2 (on Win7 64-bit).
After installation and reboot, when I launch Itunes after around 10 seconds it crashes.
I've tried to follow instrunctions described in all similar topics (completely uninstall itunes, rename iTunesPrefs.xml, etc) but nothing helped.
If I disable Itunes Match  it doesn't crash anymore, but in this way Itunes become completely useless since I cannot access to my music library.
As far as I understand the problem is related to Itunes Match, but I have no idea on how to fix it.
Does anybody had the same problem?
Any help or suggestion would be really appreciated.
    Thank you in advance!

My iTunes 11.1 is now working (Sony Vaio running Windows 8 64bit).  I fixed it by following these instructions:

    Good luck.

I have iTunes 9 and whenever I open iTunes, my computer freezes. This does not always happens when I first open iTunes - sometimes it happens after I have it open for a while.
    Can anyone help me out?

FYI : I have downloaded and am using the 64-bit of iTunes.

  • IE8 crashes when iTunes is installed

    Hi
I have tried to download iTunes several times recently, and each time it installs OK, but when I tried to load up IE8, this doesn't work and gets a exception window. Each time, I have done a system restore, and it then IE8 works fine.
Has anyone had this problem and how was it fixed.
    Thanks for your help
    Fraser

    Sounds like a plug-in error with IE8.
Have you tried going into your Start -> Programs -> Accessories and looking for the shortcut link that opens IE8 with no add-ins?
The only thing that iTunes would include is QuickTime, but I've never experienced this peronally... Additionally, the QuickTime add-in has to be enabled to work in IE8, unless you authroized it in the past through your other version. I would evaluate your plug-ins enabled and think about disabling the ones you don't use and then see if you can start it via your normal icon.
Additionally if your IE8 doesn't start in this mode, then I would think there is a different error and non-related to iTunes, but just coincdental that they are acting up at the same time.

  • Kernel crash when iTunes is open

On my work Quad - whenever iTunes is running for more than a couple minutes the computer kernel crashes. I've trashed all relating files (I think) to iTunes, (app, library, prefs). Repaired permissions, reinstalled from download & factory disk. Same thing. Please help. Thank you.

Thanks for this, I just wrote a reply on the other thread too. I'm very grateful for that.
In my case there was no grey screen, just the sudden freeze (no beachball, nothing) -- the computer is working fine one moment and then instantly moves to a state where the mouse pointer doesn't move, keyboard doesn't do anthing, flashing cursor in the clock stops, and the only thing to resolve this is the power button. I don't know the technical term for this -- somebody told me 'hard crash' might be the term.
I'm wondering how to avoid this happening. It actually happens MORE frequently than the ominous grey screen saying 'You need to restart'. It's more common on the laptop than on the G5, though.
    Thanks again.

    Hi jleznek5871!
There is an article that deals with uninstalling iTunes in a Windows environment, and I have quoted from it here:
    1. Remove iTunes and related components from the Control Panel
Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order and then restart your computer:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
Important: Uninstalling these components in a different order, or only uninstalling some of these components may have unintended affects.
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
As you can see, iTunes and all related components must be uninstalled in a particular order for continued success with using iTunes. You should uninstall and reinstall again if this order was not successfully followed in your last uninstallation.
If you are still experiencing this issue after uninstalling according to the instructions above, you will want to see the following article for more troubleshooting steps:
