Is anybody out there using iMovie/iDvd to create Dvds from a digital camera

In a post yesterday I already described the problems I have with iLife.
But problems can be solved. My question is : Is anybody using iLife
to burn a dvd from the tape of a digi cam with titel and chapter markers
or is that not possible. No long descriptions necessary.

Yes. I'm stringing video clips from my digital camera together, with titles, to make into a chaptered DVD.
It's not going well. iDVD08 doesn't recognize the titles I put in in iMovie08. iMovie08 won't allow me to place chapter markers (that I've found--if there's a way, please correct me!), and won't allow me to export short movies any higher than Mobile resolution, even though it's made from the same clips as the 2 hour that did export at Large resolution. Are you having these problems as well? Where is your other post (I'm new to the forum)?

If your camera has SD cards you can buy and use the camera connection kit and transfer the photos from the card to your iPad. If it doesn't have SD cards you can still use the CKK, but with a USB cable. Doing it the USB way does have issues and mixed successes because some drivers don't play well with the iPad

Anybody out there using arch for an HTPC?

I'm planning to make an HTPC box this summer, and I'm planning to run MythTV on it.
Has anybody done this with arch, or would I be better of with a different distro?

You can use the ABS system to make an older package . All you have to do is edit the PKGBUILD file and where $pkgver is and put the older version number. As long as the $pkgurl still has the older version it should work.
Sometimes you can get lucky and that will work. But then sometimes there are other build options and different .install files. Just try it out and see.

Anybody out there using minicom v2.4?

If so, I could sure use some help on compiling and installing! The usual "sudo -s" then "cd /usr/local/minicom-2.4/" followed by "./configure" then "make" then "make install" just aren't doing it for me. And yes, I have SnoCat's Developer Tools installed. Not clear to me how to check for any dependencies on other packages that minicom might have, though. Prefer to NOT use macports plus macports' minicom is still at v2.3 anyways. If interested in seeing the log output that I get, copy and paste

Probably don't have to use Minicom. I have a 4-port serial RS-232 PCI-e card in my Mac Pro. When I upgraded the Mac Pro from Leo to SnoCat, I cloned the Leo drive, then reformatted and clean installed SnoCat and imported apps and users from the clone. The drivers that I had, and the Minicom 2.3 courtesy macports, did not come back over. Prior to experimenting further with the serial card, I had subsequently done a periodic clone backup of the SnoCat drive, so a lot of the old unixy stuff was lost. Thought I'd try a more recent version of Minicom than that offered by macports. But wouldn't compile. screen would probably work, after I read up on the man pages like how to kill it so it doesn't hang around backgrounded as a resource-using orphaned process. So long as I could launch up to four instances, each to a different serial port, with different baud rates, and could upload, download, or capture screen's traffic, I don't know why that wouldn't meet my needs. Guess I have a homework assignment. I'll let you know how my forays into screen turn out, if I find that the old Leo-compatible drivers still play nice in SnoCat.

Anybody out there use Synergy?

I've been using Synergy for a while to share 1 keyboard and mouse across 3 systems (MAC, Ubuntu, & Windows) and love it. One of the original challenges I had in setting it up was it would only share the mouse & not the keyboard. Seemed to be a common challenge when using the MAC as the server and apparently was release dependent (1.4.*)
I had to re-install snow leopard recently and am trying to put Synergy back together. My recollection was I got around this problem originally by back-leveling Synergy on the MAC to 1.3.6. However that is the configuration I am currently running and it is not working.
Kinda off-topic but I'm looking for ideas. Anyone? Help?

OKAY Folks got it going again.
I believe the required config is:
- If MAC OS X 10.6 is server - run synergy server at 1.3.6.
- Also got to Sys Pref's - Universal Access - enable assistive devices. (this is what I forgot to do I think)
- reboot server.

I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 w/ synergy 1.4.2 client &
Windows w/ synergy client 1.4.2.

Can anybody out there help shed some light on why no audio output using varispeed tempo only?
I am using Logic Pro 9 and finding no problems using the tempo and pitch option but when I just want to vari the tempo only I loose all output.
This includes no audio meter activity on channells.

Another worthwhile time/pitch related product is from Prosoniq. The version of Nuendo (not the latest) the University uses ships with the MPEX algorithm, which is related to to their flagship product.

You could be right that the response to clicking on help is a symptom of an entirely separate issue, but nevertheless the secure link to itunes is definitely failed, and I am unable to log into Itunes on either PC.
I also noticed that even if I click on the link to create a whole new Apple ID, I cannot do that either, presumably because the secure link is not working.
After I noticed that there were weird things happening this morning, I did change my Apple ID password in the hope that this might resolve it, but it seemed to make it worse. Now, all of my apple devices keep constantly prompting me for the apple ID password, and randomly either accepting it, or telling me it is wrong. I know the password is correct because I can log onto the apple Manage My Apple ID screens in a web browser with it.
I was starting to think that this is an ISP issue (BT Broadband), but I have not seen anyone else posting with the same issue. Does Apple use a different security protocol to everyone else? I'm asking because all other secure services seem to be working fine, but anything related to apple that requires a secure connection or authentication is having issues.
I have also seen reference to making sure that Itunes is listed as an allowed program in Windows Firewall. I cannot seem to do this because it says that my Windows firewall is being managed by McCafee. I have checked the settings in McCafee, and it appears to me that Itunes, Bonjour, and many other apple programs have been granted "Full" access. As said before in any case I have tried temporarily disabling the firewall and even this did not solve the problem.

Did you meet any other call delay when you using Lync?
As the issue happen for Lync desktop client, it can be performance issue. Please check if there is any error message from FE Server when the issue happen.
Also please check if you have updated Lync Server to the latest version, if not, update it and then test again.

Yes it is. It's 3 seconds and in the .m4r format. I used it since I first bought my phone.
One thing I've noticed, not that this has anything to do with it but... I named my phone xxx since I've had it, now when I hook it up to iTunes it shows up as xxx (2). Any idea what this is about?

I don't actually qualify for your first condition since my employer is an Oracle Partner. That said, I don't take OCS exams in order to gain gold stars for my employer.
OCS exams are the least technically-oriented of the certification types. They are aimed at salespeople and integrators that need to be able to talk about Oracle products and sound reasonably well-informed in doing so. The exams I've taken have all been much more focused towards the fact that a given feature exists and the functionality it has than with implementing said feature in the real world. That is not to say that the information you have to learn to pass OCS exams is not valuable. It's good to know what the capabilities of Oracle products are. I have been asked by my current and former employers about the advisability of incorporating feature 'X' into our solutions. Preparing for OCS-level exams can give you insight into how (or if) given capabilities of Oracle products can help (or not) in a given situation.
That said, OCP and OCE certifications are much more valuable when you actually want to learn how to make use of the various Oracle technologies.

I installed the 10g data access drivers but they do not appear in SSMS. What do I need to do to be able to use the 10g drivers in my packages (Legacy DTS)?

Thanks for the reply. Let us try the Crop way with keyframing described in another way.....
1. Are you OK with creating the 4 lines of text in the opened Titler and closing the Titler to have the created title on the Timeline?
(This is 4 lines created by typing continuously the 4 lines rather than creating 4 separate lines of text.)
2. After the Titler is closed, you want to apply the Crop effect to the Timeline title (open fx Effects Tab, go to Transform/Crop, and drag the thumbnail for
Crop into the Timeline title).
3. Now we are going to edit the Crop effect that was just applied. For that, click on the title on the Timeline to selected/highlighted, and go to
Applied Effects Tab/Applied Effects Palette/Crop Panel expanded.
At this point, you should see
Your next objective is to move the Bottom slider in the Crop Panel expanded to establish what you see on screen across
the duration of the title. We need to use the technique of keyframing to do that. If we did not and just set the Crop's
Bottom slider to hide the last three lines, we would just see the first line across the video duration and never see
the last three line. It would look like
Are you OK so far with what needs to be done. If so, I will go through keyframing of the Crop effect.
Keyframing
Refer back to the first screenshot
1. Use the -+ slider above the Timeline to expand the Timeline to get a better look at its content (the title).
Right click the title to which the Crop effect has been applied. Select Show Clip Keyframes/Crop and Bottom.
Now every time you create a keyframe (to reveal another line) where you have placed the Timeline Indicator, you will see a white dot on the orange band that
runs through the title clip
2. In the Crop Panel expanded, focus on the "Bottom" slider. Move that "Bottom" slider to the right, hiding the last 3 lines of text.
Have the Timeline Indicator at the start of the Timeline.
Click on the Toggle Animation icon in the Crop Panel expanded area as point out in post 8 screenshot.
3. Move the Timeline Indicator to the right to an envisioned 25% mark along the clip, move the "Bottom" slider to the left to reveal
the second line of text. You will see a white dot (keyframe) automatically placed on the Timeline orange band at that 25% point.
4. Move the Timeline Indicator to the right to an envisioned 50% mark along the clip, move the "Bottom" slider to the left to reveal
the third line of text. You will see a white dot (keyframe) automatically placed at that Timeline 50% point.
5. Move the Timeline Indicator to the right to an envisioned 75% mark along the clip, move the "Bottom" slide to the left to reveal
the fourth line of text. You will see a white dot (keyframe) automatically placed at that Timeline 75% point.
After you press the Render button above the Timeline, what does that look like when played back in the Edit area monitor?
These keyframes are adjustable.
Please review and consider and then let me know if you are OK with this version. If not, please let me know where I need
to clarify or re-write.

Alex,
did you just upgrade from an Aperture 3.2.x version to Aperture 3.3.1? This error message usually occures after the upgrade to 3.3.1, when Aperture cannont convert the library format to 3.3. format.
I'd try to repair the Aperture Library (Mediathek), before upgrading it. Hold down the option-command key combination (⌥⌘) while double-clicking Aperture. This will bring the "Aperture Library First Aid Tools" panel forward. Select "Rebuild Database" and see, if it will resolve the the problem.
