Is Flash Builder 4.7 being maintained anymore?

I posted this question in the Adobe Air Development forum. (Is Flash Builder 4.7 being maintained anymore?)
One user responded that he heard Chris Campbell of Adobe report that he believed that they will fix major bugs but we should not expect actual progress on the tool itself because Adobe feels that the community creates better tools on their own.
Does anyone on this forum have further intelligence on the future of Flash Builder? I am trying to decide if it is time to jump ship to another IDE.
Thanks kindly!

  • Flash Builder 4.7 won't debug air app on Android devices  anymore

    Hi there,
    A strange thing happened today to my Flash Builer 4.7 installation on OS 10.8.5 : it suddenly refused installing and debugging AIR apps.
    At -the famous- 57% of compilation completion I can see the "installing app on device" message, but nothing happens then, and the one minute connection to app timeout is finally triggered.
    I had a look at other threads dealing with this problem here http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1154269 and here http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/02/12/new-android-4-2-2-feature-usb-debug-whitelist-prev ents-adb-savvy-thieves-from-stealing-your-data-in-some-situations/ and I downloaded the latets Android SDK and replaced a bunch of files into the /Applications/Adobe Flash Builder 4.6/sdks/4.6.0/lib/android/bin folder but nothing worked.
    The fun side of the issue is that yesterday it worked, and this morning it did not worked anymore, but I swear I did not ugraded Android on my phone nor I upgraded AIR SDK in FLash Builder or OS X. The Android phone is the same as usual, a Nexus 4 with Android 4.3, that I upgraded 1 month ago.
    I can't debug my Android app anymore, this drives me crazy, and I spent the day trying to find a solution.
    Do you guys had a similar problem ?

    My mistake...
    There was a typo into the XML application descriptor, that prevented the app to install properly on the device.
    Precisely, it wasn't a typo but raher a malformed <intent-filter> node. I launched adb tool from the console with adb install MyApp.apk command, and I saw this : Failure [INSTALL_PARSE_FAILED_MANIFEST_MALFORMED] in the terminal. From here it was easy to find the culprit.
    What would be cool is to have this feature inside the Flash Builder's Console panel.

  • Flex4.5 SDK under Flash builder Burito doesnt dispatch Enter key event in Text Area anymore

    Flex 4.5 under Flash builder Burito doesnt dispatch 'Enter' key event in Text Area anymore, in prev version 4.1 it was working properly, this stopped working after migration to Burito + Flex SDK 4.5?
    What that suppose to be?

    Hi
    That's true that Flex4.5 SDK under Flash builder Burito doesn't listen Enter key in Text Area for KeyUp or KeyDown event.
    Here I found a work around you can use.
    Add an eventlistener to the component in actionscript and set the useCapture=true next to eventlistener function. Now you can listen enter key for KeyUp or KeyDown Event
    Hope this helps

  • Flash Builder - Design View - can't resize/move objects anymore.

      So, I've downloaded the 60 day trial of Flash Builder 4.  I've been working with it for about 2 days and everything has been going fine.  However, for some unknown reason, my design view panel just suddenly stopped working properly.  I see the components (and the gray outlines of my containers) I'm working with, but when I try to click on them, I do not get that blue resizing outline with the handles.  I see the properties panel change when I click different components, but I get no outline.  So, I can no longer resize in this view.  I also can't move components/containers around.  I can only click on them and watch the properties panel change.  I do not believe I've hit any sort of option in the menus.  I closed the application and started it up again with the same result.  I even rebooted my machine and tried again.  As of right now, this problem seems to be permanent.  Any ideas?  Thanks for your time.

    I would recommend you post on the Flash Builder forum: http://forums.adobe.com/community/flash_builder

  • Flash builder 4.7 air 3.6 new adt compiler

    Hi. Ive been having serious issues when i tried to "Export release build" using air 3.4 and/or air 3.5 on Flash builder 4.7. Goit a lot of nonsense java.lan.nullpinter exceptions and similar errrors.
    When i tried to debug or run, even on device generating the ipa, everything ok. But when i tried to export the project, and it tried to re-compile it, always got absurd java errors.
    Ive tried everything: downgrade the java virtual machine, reinstalling flash builder, air, even windows!!! Nothing worked. Even recovering previous stages of the project where I originally could export it (its even published on the appstore!). No use. The app that was working no problem, now when trying to export returns a lot of javanull pointers or similar crap.
    BUT, when trying to generate the ipa through via command lines  on the ms dos console it works!! So... its obvious the problem was on the adl+java duo.
    Thing is, I updated to the just released AIR 3.6 (not the beta, the release version). It uses .exes(on windows, which is the system im using)  instead of java, so it showed promise.
    I overlayed the air version on the flash builder following this instructions:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/4797974
    Well, not exaclty, because then flash builder throws a lot of errors and dosent show me the package explorer for instance.
    I made a copy of the AIR folder, but not deleted the content, just copied the new air version files over and substitute the replicas, but kept the originals where no new file substituted them (dont know if im explaining it ok, sorry for my english).
    It worked... except for the damn "Export release build" option. It keeps trying to debug it using java instead of using the new adt. And I cant find how to change that.
    The adt on the other hand is being used ok, as i can check it when I try to run or debug the project targetting a device. Before I could check the command used and now Im not, so Im pretty sure its using the new .exe instead of the java version. But now I dont know how to generate the ipa targetting the app store, for instance via command line using the new adt nor can i do it exporting the project from the flash builder IDE.
    SO...
    is there anyone having similar problems?
    How can I correctly overlay air 3.6 over Flash Builder 4.7 and force it to use the new air adt and adl?
    Anyone tried?
    Thanks in advance folks!!!

    Thanks everyone for your collaboration.
    Hey Nabren, What do you mean by "as well"?
    Just to make it clear. I already followed the instructions here:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-builder/kb/overlay-air-sdk-flash-builder. html
    to overlay the air sdk. And the folder you are pointing me is the ONLY ONE the instructions tell me to replace. BUT when you say "as well" I understand something else have to be done.
    Ill explain the whole process Ive followed and the consequences:
    As I said I replaced the content on the AIRSDK placed in the fodler C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Flash Builder 4.7 (64 Bit)\eclipse\plugins\com.adobe.flash.compiler_4.7.0.349722 (or similar), for the content of the new SDK.
    The result is that flash builder throws me a lot of errors and is unable  to show even the package explorer, for instance or create a mobile project, so I went back to the original AIR folder. No problem there.
    When I was using flash builder 4.6 I overlayed the sdks in this way: made a copy of the last flex SDK (which already had the air sdk inside), and copied the content of the  latest AIR SDK over the current sdk, replacing only new files, keeping those not includded on the air sdk. That way I could keep several flex+air sdks, and could select wich sdk to use for each library/project. Now this doesnt work anymor on flahs builder 4.7.
    So I tried this:
    I made a copy of the AIR sdk under C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Flash Builder 4.7 (64 Bit)\eclipse\plugins\com.adobe.flash.compiler_4.7.0.349722 and copied over the new sdk ont he folder overwritting new files,keeping those not included on the new sdk... and this works! Everythings fine. I can debug complex projects on air simulator even launch it on an iphone or ipad...
    BUT it keeps throwing me JAVA errors (null pointer exceptions and things like that) when exporting that makes no sense at all (different errrors without making any change, now no error now another one...).
    More info on the projects provoking this behaviour:
    They are mobile projects (ios mainly). They use several libraries. Some of them come from compiled swcs from flash cs6 (wich contains classes we are using as views). All libraries have been double checked. They are fine. The problems emerge when trying to export targetting the apple store. Weve double checked the provisioning and the certificate. They are correct. In fact, when we try to generate the ipa using adt via command lines on ms-dos it works!
    Weve tried to remake and the rebuild the project class by class, even recreate the flas we are using to generate the swcs to be used as libraries on the project... it only works when the project is almost empty. As soon as some content is added.. bumm! Java errrors all over when trying to export.
    Our main machine is an i7 2.93 Ghz, 8 GB ram, 64 bits. Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bits, using Flash builder 4.7 64 bits and flash cs6 64 bits. But we have checked on other mahines and sme thing happens.
    Doesnt anyone else have these problems? Is there any other way to overlay the air sdk?
    Thanks again.

  • Design mode in Flash Builder 4.5

    I've seen from previous discussions that newer versions of Flash Builder wouldn't be supported in design mode because there would be too many SWCs to maintain, but I wanted to check if it'd be possible for the LCCS team to only support the current/active version of Flash Builder?
    It wasn't too bad before because I had Flash Builder 4 on my old Macbook Pro. I recently bought a new Macbook Air, and I was trying to find Flash Builder 4 specifically for the purpose of being able to use design mode. I like being able to quickly mockup things in the design mode, and I've always been more visual personally (I still use the command line when I have to, but I'm a designer by nature and so I always prefer being able to visually layout my interface instead of code it out). I think it's a matter of preference, and I probably could switch to just using code, but I really liked the design mode.
    Anyway, I don't think it'd be a problem, except I can't find any download links for Flash Builder 4. The only thing I can get is Flash Builder 4.5, and the design mode is not supported in that version. Would it be possible to find a download link (even for a trial) of Flash Builder <= 4.0?

    Hi all,
    Exact same problem for me as well. Can someone please help ?
    Thank you !

  • Flash Builder and Adobe AIR: anybody there?

    Hi,
    I've recently posted quite a few posts reporting very serious bugs of both Flash Builder 4.6 and Adobe AIR especially on mobile platforms, and asking about possible fixes and workarounds.
    I would have expected immediate replies by someone at Adobe showing some interest in such blocker bugs that render Flash Builder completely useless, and developing AIR apps for mobile impossible. But there was no reply at all.
    I wonder, are Flash Builder and Adobe AIR being maintained, or have they been abandoned? Because in the latter case I'd rather know it and stop wasting my time using this platform for development.
    thanks
    m.

    I feel your preoccupations, Matteo. I have them too.
    A few days ago, Gartner issued a document, called - as usual for Gartner - "magic quadrant", related to Mobile App Develpment 2012.
    This document explains the situation of the different vendors so one can make an educated choice about the IDE to use for platform-independent mobile things.
    Adobe is well-positioned in this quadrant. However, Gartner (who have talks with vendors before issueing their reports) only referred to PhoneGap when explaining how Adobe addresses mobile app development.
    This is a shame, because FB is powerful and uses ActionScript (which many of us like).
    I have bought FB last year and had fun with it. I don't think it's going to last for long, if I Adobe doesn't show that HTML5 + CSS aren't the only way to go.

  • How to migrate a flex app from Flex Builder 3 to Flash Builder 4.7

    Hello,
    I have written an extensive application using Flex Builder 3. I have maintained the app for several years using FB3. In the mean time I have created several mobile apps using Flash Builder 4.7. So I am very familiar with the the new framework. However, my client has requested some big changes to the app. I figured this would be a great opportunity to migrate the app to FB4.7. I would like to keep the mx structure for the time being. So, are there any good documents concerning this migration path? What SDK should I use. Should I start using the Apache Flex SDK?
    Thanks,
    --randu

    Hello Raja,
    Thanks. Your reply has been very helpful.
    For deploying the Flex app, as a web on NW 04S, I did the following:
    - Created a web project and included the following files as web-content. These files were created using the Flex builder or in the Flex development perspective of NWDI - CE, you can find them in the "bin" folder of your Flex project.
       - AC_OETags.js
       - your-app.html
       - your-app.swf
       - history.htm
       - history.js
       - history.swf
       - playerProductInstall.swf
       - crossdomain.xml - This file is important, if our Flex app wants data from the server.
        ( I made the simplest possible crossdomain.xml containing
           <allow-access-from domain="*" secure = "false"/>
      -  Declare "your-app.htm" as the welcome file in web.xml
      -  Package, this .war after building this web project in an Enterprise application project and build it.
      Now, you have the .ear made, which is deployable on your NW Web AS.
    Apart from this, another thing which is important to be included in your Flex mxml code is the following:
    ( Thanks to Abesh for this........ )
    - You have to tell the Flex app, in the action script, as to from where should the Flash engine pick the crossdomain.xml ( in case you are accessing the server for data from your app)
    You might have noticed, we packaged the crossdomain.xml along with our other web content in the .war.
    So mention, something like this in your action script.
    Security.loadPolicyFile("http://<hostname>:<http-port>/<context-root fo your web app>/crossdomain.xml");
    The code will work like a charm.
    Hope this helps everyone.
    Thanks guys.
    Best Regards, Gagan.

  • Installing SVN in Standalone Flash builder

    Hi
    This should be easy, but installing SVN on the Standalone FB on the Mac OS X 10.5.8 fails! I had to install a newer version of SVN (you can get a nice packaged binary from here ) then you can use  Help->install new Software ->http://subclipse.tigris.org/update_1.6.x add new software.
    If you dont have Mylyn installed and I dont then you uave to uncheck Sublcipse intergration for Mylyn and Subversion Revsion Graph.
    Adobe Please ship with SVN pre installed nobody uses CVS anymore!
    Richard

    You don't mean subversion, you mean a subversion plugin.  Subclipse?  Or the other one (I forget the name)?
    Anyway this is how it has always been for SVN + Flex Builder (or Flash Builder, meh), you have to deselect a few things, but it works fine when you do so.  You don't need Mylyn integration if you don't use Mylyn anyway, right?  (Good call not installing that magic trash btw.)
    How did you try to install it?  In my interweb-disconnected environment I always have to install from an 'archive site'.  Or did you do the remote site/download (I assume)?  I'll be trying this one at home (interweb-enabled environment) this weekend.
    Installing an SVN plugin by default is a nice idea but you should really talk to the Eclipse team about that (and/or Subclipse people).  (Of course this would only help with FB 5.)  FB is just going off of what Eclipse provides for free, CVS integration being one of those.

  • Adobe creative cloud cc install has messed up my Flash Builder 4.6 serialization

    Hello,
    I have been a flash builder user for several years now. I have had FB 4.6 installed on my computer as a free upgrade from FB 4.5, which came with my copy of creative suite 5.5, which I purchased in 2011.
    FB 4.6 has been working fine - even when I moved to adobe creative cloud last May (2012).
    However, now that I have installed the new creative cloud (CC) applications (and uninstalled the creative cloud cs6 apps) - I am having problems with Flash Builder 4.6. I open it and get a message that my 'trial period' is up. Again, I own FB from my purchase of CS 5.5 - not to metion that it was included in creative cloud. I know that I can download FB 4.7 from creative cloud, but it doesn;t have the design view. So I want FB 4.6. I have seen some solutions to similar problems on the web that recommend reinstalling as a trial and then inputting the serial number once it launches. But I have FB 4.5 on my CS 5.5 installation disc - not FB 4.6 - and I'm not even sure how I could get FB 4.6 anymore. Not to mention that uninstalling - reinstalling 4.5 - and then upgrading from 4.5 to 4.6 - even if possible - would be a huge hassle.
    Can someone please help me to get my FB 4.6 working again? To reiterate - everything was fine until I installed Creative Cloud CC apps and uninstalled Creative Cloud CS6 apps
    Thanks

    Hi bobba1,
    I am experiencing the same problem. DId you ever get this solved?

  • Restricting access to a  cube while it is being maintained

    Hi,
    We are trying to restrict access via discoverer/excel add in to a CUBE while cube is being maintained. We were able to achieve this by revoking privileges to certain roles before the start of the cube build.
    I would like to know if there is any better way or built in functionality(out of box) that restricts access to a cube a while it is refreshing? Any help is appreciated.

    Ragnar is correct, the best way to do this is to attach the AW in exclusive mode. You can either do this manually yourself before starting your load job, or automatically by scheduling the job and using mutiple processes to load and solve the cube.
    The problem is removing users currently viewing data via Excel/Disco when the job starts. If you can ensure there will be no users accessing the AW when the job starts, then the exclusive attach mode will prevent any users from attaching the AW during the processing. If you cannot guarantee this, then there is a problem because the job will fail when it tries to attach the AW in exclusive mode. Obviously you could put this in a loop and wait until a user exits the front end application and releases the AW. Alternatively, you could write a SQL script to disconnect/kill all sessions accessing the AW - not very nice for the users though if they are building a report because they will lose all their unsaved changes.
    When the AW is attached in exclusive mode, bad news is that Discoverer/Excel will probably generate a nasty Java error message when a user tries to connect using Discoverer/Excel.
    Therefore, overall not an ideal situation. But I cannot think of a really good way to manage this at the moment. Sorry I can't be more helpful.

  • Is there a limit to the amount of SWCS I can use in my Flash Builder app?

    I have 3 swc folders in my flash builder project that includes about 40 swcs total. Each swc is a simple flash animation with a size of about 500 kb each. When I include and complile about 20 of them in my project, things work fine.
    When I try to include all my swcs, the app compiles, but when i make changes in my code and save those changes, each time the compile becomes slower and eventually my flash builder freezes at about 52%, gives me a "java heap error" message, and then crashes. After restarting FB, when I take out most of the swcs from the build, FB acts normal again. Attached is a screen shot of my error.
    Is there a limit in size or amount of swcs that I can use in my FB application?

    There are no limits. But there is a known memory leak (which is being fixed for a later release).
    Would it be possible to attach a sample SWC so that we can confirm whether this is a known leak or not? I'll take care of filing this in bugs.adobe.com.
    Meanwhile, in your Flash Builder installation directory, you can edit FlashBuilder.ini to bump up max heap size by editing:
    -Xmx512m
    to
    -Xmx800m

  • Flash Builder 4.5 Data Services Wizard, setting up REST service call returns Internal Error Occurred

    Dear all -
    I am writing with the confidence that someone will be able to assist me.
    I am using the Flash Builder Data Services Wizard to access a Server that utilizes REST type calls and returns JSON objects. The server is a JETTY server and it apparantly already works and is returning JSON objects (see below for example). It is both HTTP and HTTPS enabled, and right now it has a cross-domain policy file that is wide open (insecure but its not a production server, it's internal).
    The crossdomain file looks like this:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <!DOCTYPE cross-domain-policy SYSTEM "http://www.macromedia.com/xml/dtds/cross-domain-policy.dtd">
    <cross-domain-policy>
       <allow-http-request-headers-from domain="*" headers="*" secure="false"   />
       <allow-access-from domain="*" to-ports="*" secure="false"/>
       <site-control permitted-cross-domain-policies="master-only" />
    </cross-domain-policy>
    The crossdomain file is in the jetty server's root directory and is browseable via HTTP and HTTPS (i.e. browsing to it returns the xml)
    Now before all of you say that using wizards sucks (generally) I thought I would utilize the FB Data Services Wizard as at least it would provide a template for which I could build additional code against, or replace and improve the code it produces.
    With that in mind, I browse to the URL of the Jetty Server with any web browser (for example, Google Chrome, Firefox or IE) with a URL like this (the URL is a little confidential at the moment, but the structure is the same)
    https://localhost:somePort/someKey/someUser/somePassword/someTask
    *somePort is the SSL port like 8443
    *someKey is a key to access the URL's set of services
    returns a JSON object as a string in the web browser and it appears like the following:
    {"result":success,"value":"whatEverTheValueShould"}
    Looks like the JSON string/object is valid.
    I went through the Flash Builder Data Services Wizard to set up HTTP access to this server. The information that I filled in is described below:
    Do you want to use a Base URL as a prefix for all operation URLs?
    YES
    Base URL:
    https://localhost:8443/someKey/
    Name                    : someTask
    Method                    : POST
    Content-Type: application/x-www-form-urlencoded
    URL                              : {someUser}/{somePassword}/someTask
    Service Name: SampleRestapi
    Services Package: services.SampleRestapi
    datatype objects: valueObjects:
    Completing the wizard, I run the Test Operation command. Remember, no authentication is needed to get a JSON string.
    It returns:
    InvocationTargetException: Unable to connect to the URL specified
    I am thinking - okay, but the URL IS browseable (as I originally was able to browse to it, as noted above).
    I continue to test the service by creating a Flex application that accepts a username and password in a form. when the form is submitted, the call to the service is invoked and an event handler returns the result. The code is below (with some minor changes to mask the actual source).
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
    <s:Application xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009"
                                     xmlns:s="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark"
                                     xmlns:mx="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/mx"
                                     xmlns:SampleRestapi="services.SampleRestapi.*"
                                     minWidth="955" minHeight="600">
              <fx:Script>

    It's a simple application to be sure. When I run it , I get the following returned in the text area field txtAreaResults:
    An Internal Error Occured.
    Which is equivalent to the following JSON string being returned:
    {"success":false,"value":"An Internal Error Occured"}
    It appears that the call is being made, and that a JSON object is being returned... however it does not return the expected results?
    Again the URL constructed is the same:
    https://www.somedomain.com:somePort/someKey/someUser/somePassword/someTask
    So I am wondering what the issue could be:
    1) is it the fact that I am browsing the test application from an insecure (http://) web page containing the Flex application and it is accessing a service through https:// ?
    2) is the JSON string structurally correct? (it appears so).
    3) There is a certificate enabled for HTTPs. it does not match the test site I am using ( the cert is for www.somedomain.com but I am using localhost for testing). Would that be an issue? Google Chrome and IE just asks me to proceed anyway, which I say "yes".
    Any help or assistance on this would be appreciated.
    thanks
    Edward

    Hello everyone -
    Since I last posted an interesting update happened. I tested my  Flex application again, it is calling a Jetty Server that returns a JSON object, in different BROWSERS.  I disabled HTTPS for now, and the crossdomain.xml policy file is wide open for testing (ie. allowing every request to return data). So the app accessing the data using HTTP only. Browsers  -  IE, Opera, Firefox and Chrome. Each browser contained the SAME application, revision of the Flash Player (10.3.183.10 debugger for firefox, chrome, opera, safari PC; 11.0.1.129 consumer version in IE9,) take a look at the screen shot (safari not shown although the result was the same as IE and chrome)
    Note that Opera and Firefox returned successful values (i.e. successful JSON objects) using the same code generated from the Data Services Wizard. Chrome, IE and, Safari failed with an Internal error. So I am left wondering - WHY? Is it something with the Flash Player? the Browsers?  the Flex SDK? Any thoughts are appreciated. Again, the code is found in the original thread above.

  • How can I get to the compiler arguments in Flash Builder 4.6?

    Howdy!
    So far I've been unable to locate any information that could help me with my task. The ultimate goal is to build my project's SWF with mxmlc. I was not able to figure it out and thought I'd install Flash Builder in the hopes of being able to get to the compiler arguments. No luck.
    First, I'm not the lead on the building of the SWF. This is done by another person via the Eclipse plugin; her hard drive crashed last night too. In fact I'm not a Flash developer. I'm coming at this from a Build Infrastructure perspective.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers,
