Is Fuji RAW files supported in iphoto ?

I have been trying to down load my RAW files from my fuji 9000. I have all the lates updates 10.4.9 and iphoto 6. I read in another post that fuji raw files should be supported, but i still get unknown files downloaded. Am I doing something wrong ? should i be turning some feature on in iPhoto or in the system ? At the last MacWorld I was encouraged and inspired to shoot more and to shoot more in RAW by all of the speakers. any help would be appreciated.

According to iPhoto 6: Supported RAW format cameras if it's a FinePix S2 Pro** or FinePix S3 Pro** camera then it's supported.

Fuji raw files support

I've got a macbook air Processore 1,7 GHz Intel Core i5, Grafica Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB, Software OS X 10.9 (13A603), Aperture version 3.5.1, raw 5.01 build 718.1, digital camera raw support 5010, build 91.8.
When browsing thumbnails of the raw files from Fujifilm X100s or Fujifilm xpro-1, the image disappears and a meesage comes out saying that file type is not supported. Sometimes they work for a while than suddenly get into the error and don't work any longer.
Is there a solution or shall I throw away Aperture and move to Adobe?

Raw support is camera specific - it needs to take into account the sensor characteristic, and if possible, the lens.

The sensors do differ, the lenses are treated differently, the X-E2 can record 14bit raw. It definitely needs a different raw support.

Fuji raw file support

With the long delay for X-E2 raw support, how can I be assured that Apple is truly committed to stay current and cutting edge? This delay makes me, a prospective Aperture user, a bit hesitant. Fortunately, the X-E2 and X-T1 update came together, but the E2 was announced 5 months ago!

You're not talking to Apple here just other users. If you want assurances of Apples commitment to Aperture you're asking in the wrong place.
Unfortunately there is no right place to ask because Apple will never respond to the question.
You're first post sure seemed like you had reservations about buying and using Aperture, you yourself said you were "a bit hesitant" about it. If I was "a bit hesitant" about any vendors commitment to software I was thinking of buying I'd look elsewhere.

Raw file support for HS50EXR in LR4

When will raw file support for the new Fuji HS50EXR camera be added to Lightroom 4?
I noticed the the other fuji cameras from the HS/EXR range are supprted but the new HS50EXR has not been added as yet...can i hope that raw file support for the new Fuji HS50EXR camera will be added real soon?...please!

I suspect it might have been released a bit late for the next camera update version, it really depends on how soon Adobe get their hands on a camera.

Import fuji raw files

Is there any way for Aperture 3 to import Fuji RAW files? Lightroom does.

X1 Pro - RAW not yet supported. Understand it takes a little while as it's a new sensor type but Lightroom has caught up now and Aperture is supposed to be a serious photographers' tool; just as the Mac has always been a serious photographer's computer.
Come on Apple....!

When will we get better handling of Fuji raw files?

Why is it that Fuji raw files (I'm using a Fuji X-T1 camera) are treated so badly in Lightroom? I have just tried Irident Developer and just exporting random photo of my son with default settings in Irident got me a vastly better result than I able to get from Lightroom.

I was quite concerned myself when reading some of the posts about LR processing X-trans files, even after the fix done in LR 4.4 (Adobe's Fujifilm X-Trans sensor processing tested: Digital Photography Review)
What I noticed though, is that the articles with "comparisons" are biased and usually talk about "detail" and trying to "fix" it to no avail. My experience with every single raw file available was, however, that it is possible to do a much better job with LR than what the articles present, leading me to think that the authors are either clueless or marketing agents in disguise.
Moreover, some of the files that are presented as "better" are in fact quite over-sharpened showing an obviously digital result.
My recommendation is to try and see with your own eyes. I was able to test the packages using trial periods and finally ended up sticking to LR for the overall way it handles the images.

Sony cameras A7 raw files support?

1. Well that's not actually true. There is frequently a lag between the release of the camera and Adobe offering Raw support. They are often faster to add it, true, but they do not "always" get converters out before the camera hits the market.
2. I'm not really sure just what this proves, of course. How often do you change cameras?

Olympus e-m5 mark ii raw file support in camera raw (pse 13).
I cannot open an .orf file from the em-5 mark ii even after installing latest updates for pse13 / camera raw.
Do I have to wait for support to be added by adobe / olympus, or can I do anything against myself.

You do have to wait, yes. The last updates to Adobe software came out in mid-December and the camera was not commercially available until some weeks or months after then. There is software from Olympus, and perhaps a few others companies that will work, but nothing that will do Adobe rendering, yet. You could use the Olympus software to create TIFs from your raw images and edit those in Photoshop Elements or just shoot RAW+JPG and edit the JPGs until there is an update from Adobe.
I would expect the next update to Adobe software to have support and it's been about 3 months since the last update so one would normally be out about now; however, I think Adobe is actually going to release an entire new version of Lightroom and the camera-raw plug-in with matching functionality, perhaps synchronized with a new version of PS, and if so there are many more things to get working properly before an update can be released. It's possible that updates were planned by this time, and there have been too many bugs to get ironed out and maybe Adobe would release at least a beta DNG Converter that understands the new cameras so people can do something while waiting for the main releases of the new software, but that is more my speculation than anything Adobe has said.

You see only half of the story. The Problem with JPGs is that this file format applies a "lossy" compression, and with each <save> "unnecessary" pixel information is deleted and lost irretrievably. And this happens each time the JPG is re-saved. So after a few saves the JPG is of very poor quality.
Even with LR that saves edits in the catalog and not in the pixels, you cannot avoid multiple <saves> of a JPG., for instance by exporting.
Also, how many quality settings for JPGs do you have in your camera? I have three: fine - normal - basic. And I have no way of knowing if "fine" corresponds to 100%, 80%, or 75%, or even less. I have practically no control over the quality of your JPG but maybe your camera gives you more control?
IMHO JPGs should only be used for
- e-mail;
- web-use;
- delivery of Lo-res for layout purposes.
The only scenario where I can see a pro shooting JPG is this: You cover a sports event for a sports magazine. The game is on a Sunday and starts at 3 PM and ends at 5 PM. The deadline for the magazine is at 5:30 PM. There is no time to edit Raw images. The photographer has to shoot JPGs and send them off to the magazine right after the game has ended. Maybe there are a few other scenarios that would justify shooting JPGs.
But if you value quality - forget JPPGs.
I use JPGs for the above stated three purposes. But I create them in Lr only when I need them. And I delete them regularly after a while.

Fuji X-T1 RAW files support

I own LR4 v4.4 but it does not support the RAW files from my new Fujifilm X-T1. Does LR5 standalone upgrade support these files?

Have recently purchased a Fujifilm EXR 600 compact camera. It can capture jpeg and RAW, but Aperture does not seem to recognise the RAW format - "Unsupported Image format"; neither does iPhoto recognise RAW. Is there any way to access and process these files?

Apple have historically been rather unresponsive with regard to supporting new camera RAW formats. Until they support your camera (if they ever do) probably you have to use the software that came with the camera (or some other 3rd party software) to convert the RAW file to a TIF and import that into Aperture.

Fuji XE-1 RAW and LR 5--Does LR 5 recognize Fuji RAW files?

I currently have LR 3.6 and cannot open RAW files from my Fuji XE-1 camera. I would be tempted to upgrade to LR 5 IF I was assured that Adobe has updated its RAW converters to include this camera

Panasonic Lumix FZ1000 RAW files support in Lightroom 4

The above says that Panasonic Lumix FZ1000 RAW files are supported in camera raw 8.6. I specifically checked before buying the camera. Everything I have ever read on the Adobe website for some 3+ years said that if a file in supported in Adobe Camera RAW, it is also supported in Lightroom. Particularly, the above URL did NOT give any warning about the FZ10000 RAW files NOT being supported in Lightroom 4. I went ahead and purchased the FZ1000, only to find I'm now having problem with Lightroom 4 not recognising the RAW files at all. I'm really annoyed, as I was so careful to check the Adobe website first. WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON WITH CAMERA RAW AND LIGHTROOM?????

I do appreciate the many RAW file formats being created by the camera manufacturers, as I have had varying cameras with the varying formats, and so am very aware of the whole business of making sure how those formats will fit into my software. And, as already stated, appreciate Adobe's efforts to deal with all those formats.
This whole exercise has been upsetting, and there has been some good advice and info provided in this discussion.
And unfortunately, some input that has been a little too technical and not particularly helpful. I feel that some of the input was a little too critical and didn't recognise that maybe some of us aren't so are highly involved and knowledgeable in Adobe products and the technicalities of how the software works, dot versioning of software, executable coding etc. because we don't need to, and shouldn't have to. I have bothered to learn Lightroom well in terms of its functionality including matters raised by you (eg making LRoom edits visible in other software, knowing that LR is not making changes to the actual files, rather they are in sidecar or xmp files etc.). I have bothered to learn a reasonable amount of computer-related info to understand things in plain English terms, such as "to have PShop and LRoom to recognise my RAW files, I need to have ACR. To have them run on my PC, they must be compatible with Windows operating system version xxx. For many people, this level of knowledge should be enough.
I have NOT said I expect Adobe to get advance copies of file formats from manufacturers; I have NOT said that I expect Adobe to support every new camera model immediately.
The technicalities of the coding and whether Lightroom "uses" the ACR plug in or not is not quite so much the issue, and I don't find the statement that "Lightroom does not use the Camera Raw plug-in" helpful. I don't think it's really right either. Lightroom - one way or the other - DOES "USE" ACR as the ability of Lightroom to recognise files is very much dependent on the version of ACR that you have. LRoom may not use the ACR plug in as PShop/Bridge in the exact same way (eg for the actual editing of files such as exposure, white balance etc.), but Lightroom DOES USE the ACR PLUG IN.... in regard to the file recognition issue.
And Yes.... I made a mistake. Somehow, despite what I thought were good efforts to research the Lumix's support in PShop CS6, Bridge, ACR and Lroom 4, I got it wrong. I will accept that it was my mistake and I'll accept my part in this, but I won't be made to feel that that it's been "totally" my fault, stupidity, whatever.
Thanks to all the people who have provided useful comment and input to my original question and subsequent responses throughout this discussion. I will indeed now consider options like the DNG converter. I was aware of the whole cloud thing, and had been thinking I would upgrade in perhaps a couple of years time (for both Pshop and LRoom) - I'll have to consider upgrading sooner rather than later.

Raw files transferring from iPhoto into Lightroom as JPEGs

I know this makes me sound like a newbie but in lightroom 3 the raw files were listes as .crw when I imported them from iphoto but in lightroom 4.1 they are showing up as .jpg. Am I doing something wrong? Are these actually RAW files I am working with or is lightroom converting them before I get a chance to work with them.

Lightroom's not converting them, but it sounds like you may be exporting JPEGs from iPhoto instead of the original raw files. Would you like to tell us a little more about your workflow so we can hunt down the problem?

I have imported some raw files into iPhoto but I cannot locate them in finder. I want to import them into another machine. I can find all other photos but nothing recently

Are you running a Managed or a Referenced Library?
A Managed Library, is the default setting, and iPhoto copies files into the iPhoto Library when Importing. The files are then stored in the Library package
A Referenced Library is when iPhoto is NOT copying the files into the iPhoto Library when importing because you made a change at iPhoto -> Preferences -> Advanced. (You unchecked the option to copy files into the Library on import) The files are then stored where ever you put them and not in the Library package. In this scenario you are responsible for the File Management.
