repeat -is Internet Explorer incompatible with Airport Extreme for connecting to the Internet- I am trying to hook  up my sister's / Windows 7...HP mini computer to my wireless connection (Airport Extreme to cable /BrightHouse ) all I get is -failed due to 'error 651' -am about to call the jockeys at the cable company to see if they have work-around. Any comment appreciate. Thanks./jimiros

Diane,
I have added very few apps to my G5. The majority of my time is spent editing photos with PhotoshopCS3. I have software updates set to run weekly and have always kept them up to date. I really believe it's a disk permissions issue...but repairing them doesn't help.
*+Upon installation, I used Archive and Install.+* While I agree that Erase and Install may sound like a good idea, it makes me nervous. I do have everything backed up on a bootable CMS drive, but I'm a photographer and was hoping to not have to erase the G5.
Yes, as I mentioned in the original post, I've downloaded and installed the Airport firmware update. And all software is up to date.
All was working just dandy before the upgrade. Unfortunately now it's sounding like I may have to erase my hard drive and install fresh.
If I do that, is it just a matter then of dragging my photos from the backup disk to the G5? And documents? Etc?? The thought of getting all my photos and important information back on the G5 seems a bit staggering.

If the AirPort Exteme is not connected to the Internet, then Internet connections will not be available on wireless or wired connections.

  • Will a WD hard drive work with AirPort Extreme to connect with an iPad Air

Will a WD hard drive work with Airport Extreme to connect by a iPad Air

If you already have an AE and a WD drive .. the best idea is plug it in and see on a mac in airport utility is the drive recognised.
If not you have problems.. if it is formatted correctly (Not NTFS mainly) then it can be a drive that is not compatible.
assuming it works get your ipad and pay for filebrowser or at least download a test copy and see how it goes.
Always the best way to find out.. try it.

  • Can't connect wirelessly to the Internet

    Hi all,
hope someone can help me with this.
I'm running OSX 10.3.9, have an ADSL Nation X-Modem and AirPort Express.
My wireless network is up and running, I have strong signal and AirTunes can connect and play fine wirelessly.
However, when I try to open Safari and connect to the Internet, it doesn't connect ("Can't find Server.")
When I plug the X-Modem direct into the Mac with the Ethernet cable, I can connect to the internet fine, so the modem and cable don't seem to be the problem. I've tried running throgh the AirPort Express SetUp Assistant and restarted AirPort and rebooted everything many times. In Network Preferences, it says it's happily connected, has IP address etc, but I still can't connect wirelessly to the Internet?
    Any help greatly appreciated!
    thanks
    Nat

    OK, here it is again
First you plug the Ethernet cable from your Internet modem into the AE. Then plug it in. The light will go amber. Run the Airport Setup Assistant. Create a new wireless network. Call it what you want. Enter the information about your modem, in the fields just like you do for your Ethernet connection on your PC or Mac. This means DHCP or static IP and subnet..... most if you use DHCP will be filled in for you. Now that you have saved the info and the AE has restarted, look for the network that you named in the available networks. If you have set it up to dish out IP addresses, it will give you one. If you have started out with WEP or WPA the connection process is much more difficult at first.
I leave it wide open until I can connect to it and then I create MAC access lists. I'll leave all the security stuff to you after you get it working basically.
Run Airport Admin Utility. It will scan the area for AEs and AEBSs and you can select yours from the list. Click on configure. Here is where you set all the details up on how you want it to work. Here you can configure the details, place your securities etc. Notice that you are accessing it wireless and then you can go through the various Tabs to configure how you want it to operate.
There is an Internet tab. This will show you how it is configured. It should look the same as your NIC parameters did when you hooked straight to the modem. There are also many more tabs that allow you to configure each area, like do you want it to be the gateway of your network, dish out IP addresses etc. My advice is to let it do that if more than one machine will connect and you don't require defined addresses to get to say a server.
The two important areas are the Internet and the LAN area. These tell it how to interact with your modem, and the machines trying to connect to it. If the AE doesn't see the modem or can't interact with it, one of the parameters is wrong. Same goes for the LAN side of things.

  • Remote access the airport extreme usb hard drive over the internet with multiple users?

I just purchase the new airport extreme 802.11n and set it up on my LAN behind a comcast modem with broadband.  I plugged a 3 tb Seagate hard drive formatted with fat32 (default) to it and have set it up for access for all of my computers, ipad, iphone, android in my house.  Everything works as expected, internet access, file access to the USB HD on all devices locally through back to my mac.  I would now like to allow my daughters in another state to access this drive through the Airport Extreme remotely from their location and have there own accounts on this hard drive to store and move their files for on the go access.  I have studied many of the forums and have enabled share disks over WAN, Enable file sharing but no body really gives an exact method of connecting remotely.  I had one of my daughters try on her Macbook Pro laptop through the finder, connect to server, by giving her the IP address.  She could see the name of the Airport Extreme but could not access the hard disk and got a "Not able to connect message".  I am obviously missing something simple that needs to be checked or setup but have drained my brain trying to figure it out.  Most of the forums describe clicking manuel setup on the Airport utility, but with version 6.1 this is now where to be found.  I have a DYN account but could not figure out where to input this in the Airport utility.
There is a network option which has DHCP lease and range and a box for Enable NAT port Mapping Protocal with Enable default host at:
I am guessing that this is for some other purpose though.  Please help

Try installing AirPort Utility 5, then you may be able to follow the guides you mentioned earlier:

  • Is Leopard incompatible with Airport Extreme 802.11g?

I'm still having issues with Leopard. I've worked my way past kernal panics and frozen blue screens. I've re-installed Leopard twice after the initial upgrade. I've updated all software & the firmware for the Airport Extreme. So here's the issue now:
When the G5 is turned on initially, everything seems fine. The Airport status is showing as strong in the menu bar. *The system profiler tells me that I have an airport card and gives me its information.* Within less than 5 minutes, the computer freezes. I force it off with the power button.
I restart it and then there is no airport status showing in the menu bar. +And the drop down menu says "No Airport Card Installed."+ Checking the Airport card on system profiler now says, "No information found." But NOW the G5 functions normally and does not freeze. Which, of course, leads me to believe there's something incompatible between Leopard & the older model Airport Extreme. As mentioned, I've downloaded and installed the firmware update for the Airport Extreme. No change.
I've booted from the Installer disk and run disk utilities several times - one of the permissions that was updated today was for the Airport. However, it made no change.
I've been fighting this ever since the initial install of Leopard - over a month ago. How I wish I had Tiger back!
    Ideas?

  • Need help with Airport Extreme and my new Verizon Fios Internet connection

I just got the Fios install, and the tech and I couldn't figure out how to use my Airport Extreme as my wireless connection. I'm not real tech savvy (and I've only been a Mac guy for about 18 months). My current arrangement is the basic Verizon setup with the Airport out of the loop. How can I go about moving from here back to using my Airport Extreme? I need the range! Thanks in advance for your help.

Have you tried resetting and reconfiguring the AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS)?
Are you using OS 10.5 or OS 10.4 or earlier?
Are you using the round 802.11b/g AEBS or the square 802.11b/g/n AEBS?
If you are using OS10.5 OR the square 802.11b/g/n AEBS you should refer to "Designing AirPort Networks Using AirPort Utility" (direct PDF link).
Otherwise you should refer to "Designing AirPort Extreme Networks" (direct PDF link).

  • Unable to connect wirelessly to the Internet

I have a Linksys WAG200G connected via ethernet cable to an Apple Base Station.
I can connect wirelessly to the Base Station (as it appears in the Airport Menu Bar) but I'm unable to connect to the Internet.
I can, however, connect to the Internet via my iPhone so it must be something to with the MBP.
I've run disk permissions but still nothing. I've also attempted to connect wirelessly direct to the Linksys Router and that also works okay.

Why do you need the Apple Base Station? The WAG200G is a modem/router. Just connect to it and you should be able to connect to the internet. Connecting to 2 routers has them fighting for giving out IP addresses. Yes you can connect to both but you must disable one of them in their function to provide IP addresses.

  • PC Internet Not Working with Airport Extreme

Hey guys, just got a new Airport Extreme to replace my old one. Me and my brother's MacBook's both work in terms of the internet, but my dad's PC's internet will not work. It is connected to the Airport, but has no internet access. Any ideas? Thanks.

Apple's support section (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306256) says "How to enable Cisco VPN connections
You should use Cisco's VPN client software to establish a Cisco VPN connection via an AirPort Extreme base station. Note: In the Cisco VPN client preferences, make sure the "NAT-T" option is enabled.
Note: Some corporate firewall configurations may cause issues with the Cisco VPN software.
Please contact AppleCare support if you are unable to contact a Cisco VPN server via Cisco VPN client software and an AirPort Extreme base station.
I'm experiencing the same thing. DellLatitude D610. Netgear rangemax wireless PC card (WPN511). I can connect to the internet but I try to vpn into work I get half way through the connection process and get an error which states" Secure VPN Connection terminated locally by the Client. Reason 412: The remote peer is no longer responding. I've spent 2 hours trying different settings. I really want to stick w/the apple product but will have to return it if I can't get it to work. I need cisco vpn via wintel for work.

  • Internet Sharing problem with Airport Extreme

I can connect to the Internet with my iMac running 10.4.11 fine. The problem is that I can't share the connection with my laptop. When I go to System Preferences and select Sharing/Internet, Airport doesn't appear anywhere as a connection option. I tried running Airport Utility and I got the message, "AirPort Utility was unable to find an Apple wireless devices".
This all started when, originally, my laptop could connect to the Internet, but was unable to connect with the iMac. In System Preferences/Network I got a message that says "Your network settings have been changed by another application" and the only way I can get out of it is to force-quit system Preferences.

    Hi,
Must ask, if you have an AE, why do you wan't to go through Internet Sharing?
When I go to System Preferences and select Sharing/Internet, Airport doesn't appear anywhere as a connection option.
You mean as a to: or a From: option?

  • How can I create a guest network on an airport extreme that connects wirelessly with a Timecapsule

I have a Timecapsule in one place of our house, that is connected to Internet.  I need to extend the range of my network:  1.  my private network needs to get to a remote location to make connection with speakers (Itunes).  for this I need to first extend the range of my private network, because the speakers are too far away from the TC.  2.  I need to set up a guest network, but at quite some distance from my TC, in an other part of the house, too far away from the TC (so a guest network on the TC won't do).
For this, upon advice from an apple store, I bought an airport extreme, which I have placed on a location where it can connect to the TC, to extend the private network.  On the location of the speakers, I have an aiport express (connecting to the extreme), to play music from Itunes.  The setup at this moment is:  TC makes connection to internet, and broadcasts a private network.  Extreme connects to this private network, and broadcasts it further to the Airport express, that captures it and plays the music.  I would now like to create a guest network on the Airport Extreme, while this Extreme keeps on connecting to the private network of the TC and keeps on broadcasting it to the Express.  Is this possible?  How can I do this?  Thanks for the help !

I would now like to create a guest network on the Airport Extreme, while this Extreme keeps on connecting to the private network of the TC and keeps on broadcasting it to the Express.  Is this possible?
Unfortunately, the "main" router...your TC in this case....is the only device that can create a Guest Network, assuming that the TC is connected to a simple modem.
Unfortunately again, the Guest Network cannot be extended.  Your only real option here is to create a Guest Network on the TC and hope that it will have sufficient coverage for your needs.

  • Can I use an iPhone hotspot and the Airport Extreme's Wlan capabilities (excluding the internet function)?

Hi, I am trying to use my iPhone's hotspot for my internet connection and use my airport extrem just for the wlan capabilities. Every time I connect to the AE-Wlan I lose the internet connection from my iPhone. Any suggestions? Thanks!

When you say "wlan" are you trying to use your computer for internet sharing over wireless to other machines, and have your computer be the machine that routes the internet signal coming off the phone?
A better configuration would be to setup tethering of internet over Bluetooth for the phone, and then the computer can use its airport card to share the internet.
If you have an Airport Base Station, you can set it up to echo the WiFi signal being sent by the phone, and use the phone to share its internet over WiFi, using what is known as Wireless Distribution System (WDS).
Mind you internet on the phone being shared has its limits as your account probably is capped at how much data it can use in any one month.  Computers using phone internet use a lot of data.
If this is over your head, you may want to bring the phone, your computer, and your Airport base station to an authorized repair shop, or Apple usergroup meeting where someone can at least configure everything as needed to share with the rest of the computers in your home.

  • Airport Extreme 802.11g disconnects from the internet randomly. Help =(

    O.K.
i have had this airport extreme (old one shaped like a dome) for about 5 years now... its been working fine until about a couple of months ago it has started to randomly disconnect me and my family from the internet. I know its not my modem or my ISP because if i connect my computer to my modem directly i get internet. Im not sure really what to do. Every time it does this, i have to restart my router and it works again. It does this at least once every day. Any idea how to fix this?
By the way: i bought a time capsule a week ago, thinking that it was time for a new router, but instead it was twice as slow and i couldn't even load a page. I've tried restarting it over and over gain and it has yet to have solved the problem. I guess I'm just getting unlucky :/

Define "router" - do you mean it works if you restart your AirPort Extreme or the modem?
Just because your modem works with your computer does not mean it's not buggy when used with an AirPort base station.
The fact that you had issues with a Time Capsule seems to confirm that.
