Is it more trouble than its worth?...

Hi.
Not used apple stuff in a long time after a few bad experiences with apple stuff in the past.
Im getting twitchy again as I would like a decent music player and have been recently looking at the 80gig video.
I am sort of up to speed with the problems some ipod users are having with the pods at the moment.
My question is, is it worth getting one or is it worth looking else where ie Creative or wait until Microsoft release their Zune?
One of the BIG factors that puts me off getting a pod is that their is still no user replacable battery and hate the idea of having to send the pod back to apple to get a recon back, have known so many friends send in their mint ipods to get trashed ones back.
My last pod I had was a 40 gig color and it had majour problems with sound quality which was fixed when I got rid of it. Do the 80 videos sound good?
Really dont know what to do, I know that their will be lots of people who have them and have had no problems hence dont post, and I know thier are a few that do post that have great pods, but I would say their are more with problems than those without.
Im just getting peoples feedback before I part with £260 and re-enter apples monoply.
Cheers!

with 14 million + ipods sold in the last quarter of 2005, I highly doubt there is more with problems then without. Typically the only people who come to help forums are those with problems, So i think you will always find more people posting with problems then without problems.
I have a iPod video and I think the sound quality is great, I didn't buy it for the video, and really didn't expect that much from the video, but I was very surprised by the sound and picture quality.
I hope whatever you decide to do that you find ya a good music player.

Sorry, What I meant was that the 99% of users who are working well aren't posting here. Only the 1% who have troubles come to this site.

  • Why can't I accept the new terms and conditions for iTunes?  It has been since I updated to ios7. Really thinking the update was/is more hassle than its worth. Ready to throw my phone from a moving car

TThis whole update has been nothing but trouble for my phone. Yes there are some nice features but this is ridiculous. I have tried what others have said to do with no help.

Tell me where you are planning to throw the phone out of your moving car.  I want to pick it up from the side of the road and resell it.

can I "unload" iCloud?  it's more trouble than it's worth.

You can turn it off, in iOS5 as well on Mac and PC. Always Systemsettings/ControlPanel -> iCloud. There are your options. From within iOS5 you can also delete the complete account.

Also my itunes doesn't allow "enable disk use" anymore. Can anyone help? My ipod now says that it's the 4.3.4 version

That may be a problem with the VLC plugin. VLC has never worked for me properly on the occasions that I've tried it on Windows and Linux, so I have stop using it. There are usually other plugins or media players available that work better.
What kind of media files are that?
For WMP files you can install the new Windows Media Player plugin you can also try RealPlayer and QuickTime if it is about media that those programs can handle to see if that works better.

  • How do I copy whole farm in 2013 Test to 2013 Production or is this more trouble than worth?

    Hi,
We are migrating from SharePoint 2010 farm to a TEST SharePoint 2013 farm as Microsoft recommend. The test farm is almost complete. The Host Url Site Collections under the main Web Application all use a Sharepoint UAT prefix style name i.e. SUAT<unique
name>. I want to be able to move everything from TEST farm to Production in one foul swoop i.e. Service Applications. How can I do this - farm-backup? Or should I update the Service Applications and restore my Host Url Site Collections without prefix with
powershell script I have or is this more trouble then it's worth.
    Thanks.
    John.

    Hi John,
Step 1 is straight forward; you are upgrading content from the 2010 to the 2013 version.  I agree with the recommendation to move to a testing environment as a best practice.  However, setting up your pre-production and moving the content there
    will save effort.
Moving content and containers between 2013 test to 2013 production is a matter of copying and attaching databases.  The trick is the farm level configurations, as they cannot be easily "copied."  There are some steps to save effort, for
instance the Term Store can be exported (https://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/office/PowerShell-for-SharePoint-a838b5d0).  However you really need to plan for building two sets of service applications.
Also, make sure you plan for deploying any Apps or Features between test and production.
There are 3rd party tools to simplify this, my firm has a tool DocAve Deployment Manager.  But before taking the plunge on any of this additional effort, be sure that using a pre-production farm is not best for you.  This
is especially true if it will be offline until after the full migration.
    Hope this helps,

  • Flash 8: More trouble than it's worth

I'm an animator, so I do not use flash for it's more
complicated tasks such as action scripting. However, I have had so
many issues with just drawing, and animation, that I'm about to go
back to flash mx. I cannot remember all of them but here is a small
list off of the top of my head:
    - Images exported now come out the size of your finger nail,
    instead of actual pixle size
    - ctrl + z is now done in such a way that after a few hours
of drawing and pressing ctrl + z, a computers resources are almost
completely leeched, and flash will crash if you attempt to do it
any more. I've gotten to the point where I was waiting about 5
seconds for a ctrl + z to work, and I've got 4 gb of ram.
    - When using a wacom tablet, you can flip it for the eraser.
Well don't even bother, because the eraser stays the same size as
the pen you were just using, so it's about the size of a pin head,
    and completely useless.
    - When pasting in many frames (going from frame to frame
pasting things), certain pen strokes become untouchable. You cannot
erase them, or changes them. To fix this you have to click the pen
mark, then the backround then switch to the tool you want again.
This has to be done for every frame and can become very annoying as
    any animator will know.
    - Flash 8 claims to be able to export files so that flash mx
can use them. Nope. The files are corrupted when opened with flash
    mx.
    - When drawing with the pen tool, you occasionally get an
exploded line. It just shoots off in some direction. This happens
mostly when holding shift and using the pen.
    - simple action scripts such as button command "onDrag" are
next to impossible to find without the index tool, and even then I
get errors in action script. I'm not an expert programmer and flash
mx was easy enough for me.
    - My biggest complaint is the color mixer. It has been
reduced to about 1/4 the size and I have to smash my face up
against the screen to fine pick a color. All to make room for the
now over-sized box that shows you the color you have picked. An
alternative to this is to click on the paint bucket and then the
color wheel, which isn't too hard... but as I explained, after
doing it a thousand times, I'm sick of it.
    - A tiny, yet incredibly annoying, glitch for flash 8 is also
in the color mixer. It involves trying to pick a color and having
it immidiately snap back to black, or white, or whatever color you
had previously. The color is indeed chosen anew, but if you want to
choose a color and then lower opacity, I'm afraid flash 8 just
    doesn't allow it.
There a few more things I have forgotten, but I'm sure I've
    said enough.
    ~Thanks for reading.

    jjjooee,
Not sure what you hope to gain from your post, except maybe
    to blow off
stream (which is fine, I guess). But in case a reply would be
    helpful, here
    goes ...
    > - Images exported now come out the size of your
    > finger nail, instead of actual pixle size
When I export images from Flash 8, I have to option to
    specify
resolution, depending on the format (PNG, for example).
    Images certainly do
export at actual pixel size, though. Not sure what's going on
    in your case.
    > - ctrl + z is now done in such a way that after a few
    > hours of drawing and pressing ctrl + z, a computers
    > resources are almost completely leeched, and flash
    > will crash if you attempt to do it any more.
I don't experience this at all.
    > I've gotten to the point where I was waiting about 5
    > seconds for a ctrl + z to work, and I've got 4 gb of
    > ram.
Sounds like an unusual case. I have 2GB of RAM (even less on
    my laptop)
and simply haven't seen this issue.
    > - When using a wacom tablet, you can flip it for the
    > eraser. Well don't even bother, because the eraser
    > stays the same size as the pen you were just using,
    > so it's about the size of a pin head, and completely
    > useless.
This one, I've heard about from someone else's post. I have
    a Wacom
tablet but haven't tested this particular feature. This one
    ... you may
    have a point.
    > - When pasting in many frames (going from frame to
    > frame pasting things), certain pen strokes become
    > untouchable. You cannot erase them, or changes them.
    Haven't experienced this.
    > - Flash 8 claims to be able to export files so that
    flash
    > mx can use them. Nope. The files are corrupted when
    > opened with flash mx.
Nope. Flash 8 makes no such claim. What it can do is export
    for Flash
MX 2004, and those files open just fine. I regularly
    subcontract on
projects where the other team members have only Flash MX 2004
    and haven't
had any problems. In the increasingly rare cases where other
    team members
only have Flash MX, I save for Flash MX 2004, then open in
    Flash MX 2004 in
order to save for Flash MX.
    > - When drawing with the pen tool, you occasionally
    > get an exploded line. It just shoots off in some
    direction.
I begin to wonder if you have gremlins! This just hasn't
    happened for
    me -- I think ... ever.
    > - simple action scripts such as button command "onDrag"
    > are next to impossible to find without the index tool,
    and
    > even then I get errors in action script.
Not sure what you mean by "index tool," but regardless, your
    best best
for programming to get comfortable with the ActionScript 2.0
    Language
Reference. I realize it can be intimidating if you're only
    getting started,
but I find it really helps if you can think of things in
    terms of objects,
then look up the class entry for the object at hand.
See if this article helps you get a better sense of footing

    > - My biggest complaint is the color mixer. It has been
    > reduced to about 1/4 the size and I have to smash my

This one ... absolutely. The mixer really should be bigger
    than it is.
    > - A tiny, yet incredibly annoying, glitch for flash 8 is
    > also in the color mixer. It involves trying to pick a
    > color and having it immidiately snap back to black,

I *think* I know what you mean here, but not exactly sure. I
    agree with
you that color selection could be improved, and I'm not
    really sure why this
particular feature went a bit astray.

Sure thing. I'm sorry to hear you're so frustrated. Aside
    from the
couple issues where I concur, I personally find that Flash
    just keeps
    getting better.

  • How can I revert to the prior version 9pre-3.6.13 update of firefox, as the new oone is causing more trouble than it's worth?

The 3,6,13 update has disabled real player and occasionally locks up my mouse while in firefox. I don't see the advantages of the update if it's causing this much trouble with other software.
    ''locking as a dupe - https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/771591 ''

Changing versions often does not cure problems, but it does increase risks.
    * ( Do Not ) [[Install an older version of Firefox]]
The search options will not be changed by downgrading, but there is a method of changing that without downgrading.

I am not sure the changes in Firefox 35.0.1 would cause your audio issues

The first step in troubleshooting that may be to identify the tab or page involved, then try Firefox with only the newtab page and the problem page open.
IIRC Firefox is intended to continue streaming audio even if a tab does not have focus. That enables users to stream audio in the background whilst browsing. What you hear may be intended behaviour.

  • Flash Becoming More Trouble Than It Is Worth

I play a lot of Flash games, including Evony. There are many people who have noticed problems with these games since the latest Flash update. So, please do not give us your standard "this must be a user error because we are perfect" answer.
Since this latest Flash player update, we've seen the following:
Sometimes the GUI is half blanked out
Buttons which used to take one click now require several clicks before they work
The chat window pops back to the top every time someone enters new text
Scrolling around sometimes takes forever or freezes up
    Lagging has increased exponentially
Are we all tired of Flash becoming more and more unusable? YES
As a former Flash Developer, I understand how easily Flash programs break and/or become obsolete with subsequent updates. I have become increasingly more frustrated and disillusioned by Flash and it's relevancy to the internet. As a Mac and PC user, I find it disgusting that I can no longer use my G4 to access the internet appropriately since Flash is so prominent and does not work properly on "older" Apple computers.
Please, please get it together Adobe before we all start moving on to something else. You are rapidly losing your fan base. Especially all the artists and developers that helped you popularize Flash usage on their APPLE machines.

Hi, Have you tried turning off the hardware acceleration feature? Right click on any video and click on Settings, then Display Settings and Uncheck it.
It has also been recommended to update the graphic and video drivers to the latest versions. Sometimes just turning off the H.A. takes care of the issue.

  • Anyone else feeling like this is more trouble than it is worth?

I am currently under the grandfather plan of unlimited data, text with 450 minutes and an employee discount. I have enjoyed the usage of my Droidx for almost 3 years now. It had a good run, but the pinch of an $80 smart phone plan just doesn't seem worth it anymore. To be honest, for me the pricing of cell phone plans is getting out of control. Like everything else it seems, prices have gone up, but per usual, my income has not.
The share-everything plans look like absolute nightmares and terrible deals, and to switch over would increase my costs by $20 for what I feel is a very bad deal, seeing as I do not use many minutes on my cell phone. Although I take very good care of my phone, I am not naive enough to think that it will last forever. 2GB data plan is hardly what I would call a pot to pee in, especially with e-mail, web, pictures, etc.  I realize the bottom line of the company is to make money, but lately it just seems like all of the hooplah that comes with smartphones is enough to try the patience of any saint. I'm contemplating alternatives, but I am not sure where to start. Perhaps it's time just to go to good old prepaid cell phone, and pretend I never had internet to begin with
I think the turning point for me today was the phone call I received from Verizon regarding my bills. I've never had a late bill in the 16 years I have been with them, but for some reason, my payment for February did not go through. The first words out of this lady's mouth were "I'm _____ from Verizon Wireless, you owe us ___________ how will you be paying your bill today?" Seriously? First time being late, and even though I have e-mail notifications, this is the crap I am greeted with upon answering the phone. No thank you, kiss my rear, nothing? What am I, chopped liver? Lol.

It sounds like you've been scammed. Firefox is a completely free browser that doesn't require either payment or registration. Never download it from anywhere but the official site:
    * http://www.mozilla.org/
Please report the offending site on the page below:
    * http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/legal/fraud-report/
You'll have to sort out the situation with whoever took your money, or failing that, with your bank or credit card company.

  • OracleConnectionCacheImpl opens more connections than its max!

Hi there, I have an application that uses lots of connections... I have a pool of connections that I implement with the Oracle class: OracleConnectionCacheImpl. I set the maximum number of connections to 50, and for some reason, sometimes it reaches the 50 connections and ever more! It reached 60 connections at some point... So my question is, what are the reasons that a pool implemented with a OracleConnectionCacheImpl object reaches its maximum connections and more? How can I fix this?
    Thanks!

It's probably a little bit too late to answer but it may serve someone else:
By default, when the maximum number of PooledConnection objects exists in the cache, and no free connection instance is available for a request, the cache will create another PooledConnection object, therefore exceeding the specified limit. Choosing a connection cache scheme can alter this behavior. There are three connection caching schemes available in the Oracle connection caching implementation.
         Dynamic
         Fixed Wait
         Fixed with no Wait
The connection cache scheme is set using the setCacheScheme() method by passing in one of three constant values, DYNAMIC_SCHEME, FIXED_WAIT_SCHEME or FIXED_RETURN_NULL_SCHEME.

  • Does Lion save more battery than ML?

Recently my macbook pro retina 15" has been running short on battery, whether I am playing Minecraft or surfing the web. Will downgrading to Lion save more battery?

Yes 10.7.5 will probably get you slightly better battery life, but to downgrade you have to erase your whole drive and perform a complete reinstall.  Time machine backups will not work so you will have to manually move your files back into place and reinstall anything like Microsoft Office or the Adobe CS software. Probably more trouble than its worth for most people.  If you want to read about it a little more Arstechnica does a good comparison article: http://arstechnica.com/apple/2012/08/mountain-lion-update-can-improve-battery-li fe-for-some-mac-notebooks/

I am feeling so ripped off right now. I have wanted a Mac for years and believed the hype about it's stability and I have had more trouble with this Imac 2011 than I have ever had with a pc. It locks up with several software products from APP store. I have already had to have a technician to look at it and really couldn't figure out what the deal was.  I was told that the APP store software should give me no problems but the truth is that it locks up on the software. This machine is only 4 weeks old and I am using 37 g on a 1 T hard drive. There is no reason for it to be locking up. Also, when I try to use the help program, it always tells me that I am not connected to the internet even though I have used both the mail program and the browser with no problem just before that. I successfully used the help program on my pc lots of times. I did not need a $2000. plus machine to just get email. I just wanted to unload on somebody that might understand my pain and after checking out this site...I think there is a few of you out there.

I was told that the APP store software should give me no problems but the truth is that it locks up on the software.
The apps downloaded from the Mac App Store are written by third party developers, not Apple. If you have problems  with those apps you need to visit the support area for their websites. Launch the App Store, locate the app name. You should see a support link.
