Grief! Yes, that is costly "solution" I looked on Amazon for USB2 for SATA drives and $40.
For that kind of price, MacGurus specializes in some hot-swap FW/USB/eSATA cases so you can use it with multiple drives (giant floppy).

is airplay mirroring possible with mac with osx lion?

It is a feature of ML not Lion and only if you have a fairly recent (2011 or later, check first) Mac.  Airparrot app will do the mirroring on Lion for a couple of bucks.

  • My Wifi keeps going in and out a lot lately on my Snow Leopard 10.6.8 Macbook. Mac virus or malware or not possible? Macs based on BSD isn't it? Whats the chances it's Virus/Malware related?

Do you recommend a certain Anti-virus or Anti-spyware for Mac, or you don't believe that my Wireless going out frequently has anything to do with that? Something else possibly like a software issue?

Your wireless issues don't have anything to do with malware. There's no known Mac malware that behaves that way. See my Mac Malware Guide for more info about that topic.
Are you having problems will all wireless networks, or just one? (If you haven't tried it on more than your home network, try taking it to a local coffee shop or library that offers free wifi and test it there.) When it "goes out," what exactly happens?

  • Is virtual hosting possible on Mac Mini OSX 10.8.5?

I have a Macmini4,1 with an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz processor with 8 GB Memory. I want to use it as a webserver for half a dozen websites with fully qualified domain names running as virtual domains under one IP address. They have been running fine on an older Mac Mini with 4 GB Memory running OSX Server 10.5.4 for several years, but I'm afraid that machine is going to curl up and die shortly.
I have purchased the 'new" $20 Server App 2.2.1, but I'm not convinced it's capable of handling them, and if it is it's sorely lacking instructions.
What server software should I use with the newer computer?

With Apache directly or via Server.app (Mountain Lion) or Server Admin (Snow Leopard Server) you can define a website to be a normal http unencrypted site, or a https encrypted site. For unencrypted http sites you do not have to have a certificate.
It is also possible to generate your own self-signed certificate although this would not be user friendly in this scenario. What might be a more worthwhile possibility if needed is that you can be what is called a 'wildcard' certificate e.g. *.domain.com i.e. anything.domain.com however it sounds like in your case you want multiple domains rather than multiple hosts so this would not perhaps help you.
    So to confirm
    http://www.domain1.com/
    http://www.domain2.co.uk/
    would not need a certificate.

  • 1 POP email sync'd on 2 Macs.  Possible?  (.Mac?)

I have a single POP email account I would like to manage across 2 Macs (home and work) such that they are kept up to date with each other. Is that possible? I do have a .Mac account if that is necessary for the syncrhonization. Any tips appreciated.

Hi!  For syncing I can recommend Chronosync:
    http://www.econtechnologies.com/pages/cs/chrono_overview.html
Very powerful (customisable), and you can install ChronoAgent to avoid having to mount external locations.  Traffic goes over your local network, and not externally as dropbox does.  ChronoAgent also has the ability to encrypt data transfers.
They also have free demo trials..
    Hope this helps!
    Derek.

  • Time Capsule: Connection possible despite mac address control activated

    AirPort Utility version 7.5.2
I control access to my wireless network with WPA2 and restricted mac addresses for years now and I know it worked - but not anymore.
I recently realized, that it is possible to connect a "new" device without registration currently, only the correct password is necessary. I noticed this first when my new iPhone could connect with only password and could reproduce this with another iPhone and a notebook of a friend.
Checking Time Capsule settings everything is okay, mac address controls are set to "Timed Access".
I can't find an explanation for this behaviour on my side and I'm afraid this is a software problem. Can with the same configuration check against please?

but you can set access to "never", this does the job too.
Correct. That is what I meant when I said that you can "edit" it.
I have lobbied Apple several times to make this setting and setup more clear. Most users do not understand the confusing "default" rule, which allows access to any computer with the password unless the MAC address is listed in a separate rule. Users assume that no computer will be allowed access unless it is specifically allowed, when that is not the case. It is really confusing.

  • Remote session via RDGW fine with Windows - not possible with Mac ...?

    Hi,
I've configured a fresh single RDS Server (all roles on one Server including Gateway) based on Windows Server 2012 R2. Everything works fine when we use Windows 7 with current RDP Client to connect via Gateway/HTTPS.
When we use a Mac (OS X 10.9.3) with current Version of "Microsoft Remote Desktop" (8.0.7), no RDP Connection is established. Error message: "Unable to connect to remote PC. Please verify ...". Login on <external.domain.name>/rdweb
works fine and I'm able to download the .rdp-file and open it with Microsoft Remote Desktop, but after a few seconds the error above appears.
I did some traffic analyzing on our Firewall and it seems that the Mac try to connect on port 3389 on the public ip of the RDS Server, which is blocked. I manually configured a RDP Connection with Gateway - same error. The log of Microsoft Remote Desktop:

I remember that there was an issue to establish SSO based on DNS resolve (external Domain Name to internal ip address via Gateway Connection); but we resolved this with a new DNS Zone. But why is it fine on Windows, but not on Mac OS X with Microsoft
Remote Desktop? I wondering why the MRD is not using the Gateway Connection to resolve the RDP host ... ?
    Many thanks,
    Erik

  • Blocking a domain - is it possible in mac mail

I'm getting an extraordinary amount of junk mail (at work) from one particular domain. Is there any way to block a domain so that my office no longer receives all of this nonsense. Yes, I've already marked it as junk and it all goes to the junk folder. But I'm soooo sick of this junk. I'd love to block it -- clean and simple. But is that possible?

Try using the firewall in your router. Or just change the rule in Mail to delete the incoming from that domain instead of putting it in Junk mail.

  • Error possibly on mac mini 10.4.11

After the last security update, all of the letters in all text on my desktop turned into squares with a CAP "A" in the middle of the square. Anything that I open in the finder has the exact same text problem. Een the names of my harddrive and external...anything that show up on the desktop. I can open apps just fine but the box is in the top bar.
Does anyone know what this is? It obviously must be a bug in the system somehow. It is really hard to navigate to where i need to look since every letter looks the same.

Hi Loribwith, and a warm welcome to the forums!
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=4395251&
    First...
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Tiger Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
    5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
The usual reason why updates fail or mess things up, is if Permissions are not fixed before & after every update, with a reboot... you may get a partial update when the installer finds it doesn't have Permissions to change one obscure little part of the OS, leaving you with a mix of OS versions.
Some people get away without Repairing Permissions for years, some for only days.
If Permissions are wrong before applying an update, you could get mixed OS versions, if Directory is the slightest messed up, who knows!
If many Permission are repaired, or any Directory errors are found, you may need to re-apply some the latest/biggest updates.
May even need to do an Archive and Install if you have room on the HD, but saves all your files and gives a new OS...
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107120
I only use Software Update to see what is needed, then get them for real via...
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/
That way I can wait a week or so, check the forums for potential problems, and get Permissions & such in order before installing.
If all the above fails, then it appears to be time for a relatively painless Archive & Install, which gives you a new/old OS, but can preserve all your files, pics, music, settings, etc., as long as you have plenty of free disk space and no Disk corruption, and is relatively quick & painless...
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107120
Just be sure to select Preserve Users & Settings.

  • Acrobat 9 Enterprise Install possible on Mac?

I need to create a install package for Acrobat 9 to pre-serialize and turn off other installation questions. I have attempted to use Adobe Application Manager Enterprise Edition 2.1.98 and Adobe Customization Wizard 11.0 and neither one will recognize the Acrobat 9 package. Is there a tool available for doing this or am I just using the wrong version of ADMEE or ACW?

The product version and Wizard version must be identical. Thus, the 11.0 Wizard can only be used with the 11.0 product.
The 9.x product is no longer supported and I'm not familiar with the 9.x Mac documentation. However, if you received Acrobat with a CS product, then you should refer to the 9.x CS deployment documentation which contains a chapter on Acrobat deployments.
The 10/11 Mac doc resides here: http://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/AdminGuide/mac.html.
