Is it possible to backup LR keywords without export/import?

Hi everyone,
I know that I can periodically export my entire keyword list as a .txt file, and that from this I could subsequently reimport this file in order to reconstitute the rather extensive hierarchical list I have carefully built up over the years in the event of a hard drive crash, new install etc.
What this approach relies upon however is that I routinely export my keywords to a file that I later backup. As I am constantly making incremental additions to my keyword list and know I will not be disciplined enough to export a new .txt file each time I am looking for an automated solution I can incorporate in my daily backup routine that backs up my entire keyword list every day so that incremental additions are captured.
I have a daily backup routine running from Syncback which backs up a number of directories. Included in this is my Application Data\Adobe\ folder, meaning all of my personal PS actions, and Workspace settings are backed up, as well as my LR Develop Presets folder and others. The Keyword Sets folder is backed up, but this simply holds the .lrtemplate files that correspond to the various keyword sets I have created. There is not, as far as I can see, a file within the %User\Application Data\Adobe\ folder that provides the entire keyword list.
Is there a single file for the keyword list that Lightroom creates, and if so what is its location? Or is this data embedded in XMP within the catalog?
Thanks and hope that's clear,
Dave M

Thx DJ.
That's helpful to know. I do have LR set up to prompt me to backup the catalog every week which I almost always do, and the original Lightroom catalog folder is part of my routine backup, done each day. Good to know that the keywords are in there.

  • Is it possible to backup my iPhone without getting into the phone?

I have a white iPhone 5c 16GB. It's my second time owning one, and the current one I have is from Asurion insurance company. I have heard those have been refurbished, so when I received my current phone I felt like it had already been old. iPhones don't have long life spans, for one. I would drop it a couple times and the edge of the screen would pop out but i would just push it back in using some force. Another problem it had is that it would die even when it had about 30% of battery left. Earlier today, it did the same. Trying to get my charger, the phone accidentally fell off of the bed while it was dead. As usual i check for cracks or the screen popping out and that didn't happen. I charged it and when i tried going on my phone I was only able to use half of the screen. The other half was covered in those lines that appear when the screen is damaged. My immediate reaction was to plug it into my laptop to backup the phone before more damage happened to the phone but I had procrastinated on updating itunes. It took about two hours for iTunes to completely download. Meanwhile the screen had just completely failed on me showing only the colorful lines, but i was still receiving calls and the phone could still vibrate, i just couldn't see or check anything at all. Once i was going to back it up, itunes said my phone was in recovery mode and that i had to restore my phone. I have precious photos that i want to keep when i get a new phone. Is it possible to backup the phone without using itunes and just using icloud? its saying my phone is connected yet im unable to see any proof of that other than the sound my laptop makes when i plug it back in. Also, if that doesn't work or is not possible, will i be able to just stick my sim card into a new phone and will i be able to keep my data?

That's what I figured. When i go on icloud it shows the bar of the storage, and since i havent purchased extra, i only have the free 5gb. in icloud the bar shows the amount ive used and it says "backup" on the bar. It's not a link it's just a label. Does that mean it's backed up automatically on icloud?

  • Possible to backup an iphone4 without upgrading to ios7?

Is it possible to backup and restore an iphone4 without installing the ios7 upgrade?

Your right, it may already have ios7 installed. It's a gamble. Verizon was getting the phone from their warehouse, so there is a good chance it may still have ios6. If it does in fact have ios6 (which I am hoping for) would transferring my data from my current iphone4 with ios7 to my new iphone4 with ios6 affect the ios? How would I transfer the data...icloud, itunes? As you can tell I basically use my phone for...well...phone calls!

Though you have got links already for using the exp/imp , I would strongly suggest that when you mention backup/recovery, RMAN is the tool that you should be using. Exp/imp is/was never considered as a backup tool. You should read this paper to get the answer of "why rman" ?

  • Is it possible to backup an iPhone without the SIM card?

I've been an iPhone 3G user until recently when I bought my unlocked iPhone 4S. I was informed that I need to get my SIM card clipped in order for it to fit the new phone. My situation is that I'm actually traveling in overseas at the moment and do not have my computer with me to backup my old iPhone 3G. So my question is: can I go ahead and clip my SIM card now and then backup my iPhone 3G later without any SIM card, and finally syncing my new iPhone 4S? Or must I have my SIM card in the old iPhone 3G while backing it up?

Having a SIM card in the device has no bearing on whether it will backup or sync with iTunes.
A SIM card is required to activate the device and use a carriers services (voice, data, sms).
Instead of trimming the SIM card, you are better off getting a microSIM from your carrier.  If you accidentally mess up trimming the SIM card it will become useless.

  • Backup the database without shuting down the database

    Hello All,
Just want to ask if any one can tell me if it is possible to backup the database without shutting it down
When can you do so if it is possible?

A hot (or on-line) backup is a backup performed while the database is open and available for use (read and write activity). Except for Oracle exports, one can only do on-line backups when the database is ARCHIVELOG mode.

Any software to decrypt the files , mostly word and excel files , any solution please let me know as soon ad possible.
    Thx

If you formatted the entire "C" drive (Format C:\) then you don't need to decrypt them but rather recover them.  Recovery is somewhat doubtful but one application you can try is called recuva.
You will not recover 100% of the files and may not recover any

    Hi,
It is not possible to scroll the menu without lagging.
The latest version has been restored but nothing.
I think the touch screen is having some problems.
I wanted to use the Set Up a Repair / Send In for service but it seems that the application form doesn't working.
As soon as push the Continue button, nothing happens.
Is there anybody from Apple who can check this issue please?
    Thank You.

Restoring a phone from a backup will put the device back to the state it was when the backup took place, i.e. all info that you had on that phone before using the backup will be gone.
You could try to restore the phone, which will back up the actual data on the phone, including the passcode, and use this backup to set up a new phone with. The passcode will still be the same, because it is  part of the backup.
More info here, iPhone and iPod touch: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen
Not being able to fill in the passcode is not much different from forgetting it.
If you cannot remember the passcode, you will need to restore your device using the computer with which you last synced it. This allows you to reset your passcode and resync the data from the device (or restore from a backup). If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present. Refer to Updating and restoring iPhone, iPad and iPod touch software.

  • How to backup MacBook Pro without AirPort Time Capsule or External hard drive

How to backup MacBook Pro without AirPort Time Capsule or External hard drive

This is crude but if you need a work around, just plug the USB drive directly into the iMac.. copy the files to it.. then plug it into the TC.
You also do not need to use the TC as an intermediary between your iMac and MBP.. just turn on sharing in the computer.. so you can directly copy files from one to the other.. Macs have public access directory preconfigured for each user account.
As far as mounting the TC..
In finder use Go, Connect to server.. and type.
    AFP://TCname or TCipaddress
Where TCname is the actual name of the TC.. I strongly recommend you follow SMB network rules.. ie if your TC has a name like
    Fred Blog's Time Capsule 2445566.
It is too long.. it has spaces and it has non-alphanumeric characters.
    Shorten it to FredTC
No spaces no characters that are NOT alphanumeric.
TCIPaddress is simply the standard IP.
You can also use CIFS://TCname which according to the article forces the connection back to SMB1 rather than SMB2 which as usual is broken.
But I would definitely use AFP if possible. I cannot understand the decision to move to SMB as standard.

  • Is it possible to create "places" tags without the maping feature?

Is it possible to create "places" tags without the maping feature? I updated from PSE 10 (where I created my own list of "places,") to PSE 12, where "places" seems to require the mapping feature. I would prefer not to use the map, and stick to my old way.
    Thanks for any help!
    Tom

Apparently, not only is the mapping feature required, but once the GPS-loaded Place tag is created, it is not listed in alphabetical order with other place tags.  It is listed by country, then by state, then by title!!  !! VERY irritating!!  And what if I want to create a place tag (of which I already have many) which does not have a recognizeable address, like, say, Grandmother's House?  VERY irritating.
And if I use the Keyword feature to create Place tags, they will be in an entirely separate list from the other Place tags.  VERY irritating!
Who designed this upgrade?  I will soon start looking for an alternative, though I have used Photoshop Organizer for years and have thousands of photos in it.  My upgrade to PSE 12 has caused me nothing but headaches.

  • Is there any possibility to format an Imac without backing up all datas (re-install the OS without touching to Itunes-Iphoto-Safari Bookmarks etc.)?

    Hi everyone,
I guess the question pretty much speaks for itself. My Imac is running very slow these past few months and I would like to reinstall the whole OS.
However, I would like to avoid loosing any data by formating the Imac without touching the user desk. Is that possible? And if so, what are te steps to proceed?
Thanks in advance for you help!

Formatting a drive is a destructive process, so you cannot format a drive without losing everything on the drive. But it is possible to reinstall OS X without reformatting the drive.
But you need to tell us what version of OS X is installed. I would recommend you backup your drive before such an action.

  • Is there a way to backup the iphone without entering a passcode that was previously set?

I have a passcode on my iphone, which I recently dropped. Both the front and back screens are cracked severely. I can see when someone txts / calls, so the phone appears to be working, however it is not usable. I cannot access anything on the phone using the touch screen. The screen continues to shake as if there are multiple fingers trying to operate it at once.
Although it would be nice to get back into the phone, I would prefer being able to back it up just one more time. I sync frequently to icloud, but the last time I backed it up to my pc was 11/16/2011. I can access everything I've backed up(txts, images, etc via other applications), but I have some important correspendeces that took place between then and now that I would like to have.
Is there way for me to backup the phone without entering the passcode?  Also, I have read through some of the discussions, and pardon my ignorance but I wanted an unequivocal answer to this question:  If I restore the phone from the backup of 11/16, will I lose everything after that date? And, are there other alternatives?
I have tried some things which I thought would be clever ways to bypass this problem, but alas...here I am asking for help. I find it frustrating that I can sync to icloud (still) yet I cannot backup to my pc without passcode. I guess a good alternative would be if I could access my txts on icloud? I may consider replacing the screen, but I don't know if this will fix the problem since the phone looks pretty bad. I also prefer not to replace the screen since I wont be using this phone any longer.
Your comments / suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    reaL

  • Is it possible to backup all purchased media in iTunes to an external hard?

I have a large media content that I purchased through iTunes that is only stored on my Mac Book Pro. I have not backed-up any of it yet because of the number of CDs/DVDs it takes. Is it possible to backup all of this purchased media onto an existing external hard drive or even a thumb/flash drive that I have instead of using a ton of CDs/DVDs that I will probably lose or misplace?

Absolutely. Just drag the files themselves from your home folder (usually Users/yourname/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music - at work at the moment, I believe that is the specific path) onto your external drive.
I have a smart playlist created which lists all files containing "Purchased" or "Protected" to help me isolate the files I need to back up periodically. This might also assist you as well.

          2) How SAP System Validate Profit Center in material master. ? is it material Type wise ?
          3) Whether PO Order Creation,GRN & MIRO Possible for those material Master without Profit Center.?
    Kindly Explain me clearly..
    Thanks & Regards,
    Swetha

    Hi,
Profit center is at the plant level.
You can create material master even with out a profit center. This field will be there in the costing view and and general sales/plant data.
while creation of the materila master if do not select these views system will not ask for that.Normally it is pertaining to the costing analysis.
A profit center manager is held accountable for both revenues, and costs (expenses), and therefore, profits. What this means in terms of managerial responsibilities is that the manager has to drive the sales revenue generating activities which leads to cash inflows and at the same time control the cost (cash outflows) causing activities. This makes the profit center management more challenging than cost centre management. Profit center management is equivalent to running an independent business because a profit center business unit or department is treated as a distinct entity enabling revenues and expenses to be determined and its profitability to be measured.
Business organizations may be organized in terms of profit centers where the profit center's revenues and expenses are held separate from the main company's in order to determine their profitability. Usually different profit centers are separated for accounting purposes so that the management can follow how much profit each center makes and compare their relative efficiency and profit. Examples of typical profit centers are a store, a sales organization and a consulting organization whose profitability can be measured.
