Is it possible to use an AirPort Time Capsule as both a Time Machine and an external hard drive from which to stream from?

I recently purchased a new 2TB Time Capsule. I purchased it in hopes that I can set it up in 2 ways.
1. Empty my almost completely full MacBook harddrive onto it (mostly movies, music, and photos) that I can stream directly from via iTunes and my Apple TV (this will allow me to free up much needed space on my MacBook)
2. Use it as a wireless Time Capsule to back up what is left on my harddrive
I currently use another external harddrive as a time machine but it is a cumbersome process. I know that Time Capsule's weren't built to be partined for needs such as this, but I've been told by Apple that it is possible. Does anyone know how? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, you can use the Time Capsule to provide both a wired and wireless network AND media storage to stream from an iTunes host device to an Apple TV. As an example, you can place your iTunes Library on either the TC's internal HDD or an external USB HDD attached to the TC. You can then access this library from iTunes located on a Mac or PC, and then, stream it to the Apple TV.

Yes, you can use the TC as a backup destination for either Time Machine or any other network-ready backup program. Again you can either use its internal HDD or an attached USB HDD for this purpose.

Simple UEFI GPT Dual boot with windows 8 boot partition question.

appears out of date and so I need to ask you fine people my question.
If I want to dual boot Arch with my Windows 8 my question is on the boot partition. I have an existing windows EFI boot partition. should I mount this partition to my "/mnt/boot/efi" folder and then copy the files to this partition when I am setting up rEFInd (my chosen bootloader from wiki page, comments/suggestions are welcome) or should I setup a separate boot partition for my arch installation. I assume from reading about rEFInd that the former is how I should do it as this seems to be how refind would be able to "see" my windows bootloader.
The reason I am double checking and asking here is I know that windows can be a temperamental beast and is very prone to not booting so I don't want to mess with the windows boot partition unduly.

also, ok, gummiboot, I'm glad I can mount the esp as /boot (that was my original thought but reread the tutorial and wasn't sure) just double checking, it is the esp created by windows 8 that I mount?
in addition, as I am slightly new to this is there any tutorial that can tell me how to set up gummiboot? I've looked here:

This thread is a bit old, but I thought it would be worth while responding (as I was wondering the same thing a day ago).
The answer to the OP's concern(s) is YES, you can install DAQmx on your Windows 7 embedded TPC-2212 touch panel device while connecting to your cDAQ hardware. YES, it will function (depending on your memory constraints). DAQmx BASE is NOT a requirement (which, to me, seems very ambiguous if you're referring to NI's documentation for the LabVIEW Touch Panel Module).
My confusion began when it seemed using the Touch Panel Module for the 2212 was a requirement, not an option. If one proceeds with this assumption, then referring to the TPM documentation:

NOTE: this link above is to an older version, but the content itself (also installed locally with the TPM in \\manuals\TPC_Getting_Started.pdf) remains relatively unchanged.
Section "Installing Additional Tools" clearly states "You must install additional tools on the target depending on the functionality you need." Immediately following is the installation procedures for DAQmx Base. You'll see the same statement in the LabVIEW help files that get installed with the TPM on your development machine. Nowhere does it state, for Windows Embedded, that it's possible to use DAQmx itself.
Because DAQmx is a bit of a heavy weight, you'll probably want to go with the Runtime (with MAX) as I did:
Search for 'NI DAQmx Run-Time Engine - Configuration with MAX'. I would have posted a link, but NI's site was down for maintenance at the time of this post.
Connect to your 2212 over a network connection (I just used a cross over cable and connected directly). Create a shared directory and copy the downloaded installer on over - install. You could, of course, download direct if your 2212 is already networked with web access.
I have my test station application running beautifully with an attached (USB) cDAQ chassis loaded with a variety of modules.
I hope this post is as useful for somebody else as it would have been for me.

Archlinux dual boot with windows 7 (UEFI)

Hello, i've just installed windows 7 (with UEFI) now i want to install archlinux i have a free partition with 400GB.
- Should i have create another EFI partition?
- What should i do in order to install grub?
- (I followed the wiki but each time i fail)

Is there a question there? You haven't explained what you have tried or how it has failed.
You say that you tried to install grub but failed each time. You do need to install Arch (or another Linux distro) first as far as I know. That is, you cannot begin by installing the boot manager - you need to install the system first.

I am not aware of any way you can get iChat to reveal this info directly.
You could use iChat with another Screen Name and Little Snitch.
Little Snitch is a Utility that will tell you what IPs and Ports an App is trying to use.
This way you add your old ID as a Buddy.
If they are On line then send them a Video Invite. You do not have to go the whole way but just enough for Little Snitch to tell you the IPs involved (A Public and possible a LAN IP).
Once you get that far past the Little Snitch Pop ups you can end the chat
Little Snitch will keep a running record in its Application Interface for you to fully note down the details (the ISP will also be listed)
I would also contact Moblieme about this.
If you can get hold of any of the email I would also look at the Full Header info
In Mail you can set this in Viewing (Preferences).
This will also list the ISP (Servers) it has passed through.
You can also generally see if the name has been spoofed.

is it possible to move or copy mp3s from the player back to the hard dri've of pc or laptop?
i have a creative zen sleek 20gb and using the creative labs software that came with it etc.
havent used it in a long time and i cant remember if i ever was able to move my mp3s back onto my computer again?
does any know if its possible? the creative media source software doesnt seem to let me or give me any sort of
opinions for moving it back.

You did not say you had no access to the XP computer. MDT 2013 + create 5 recommended UEFI/GPT drive partitions

My end goal is to deploy a custom x86 image to a UEFI device (tablet) using a USB stick. It is likely that my .wim file will be >4GB, but for now, I'm just trying to get the process working with a standard OEM <4GB .wim file.
As per this post, I have performed steps under sections 5.1, 5.2 and 5.3 MANUALLY, by booting the tablet using a WINPE 5.0 USB and running
1) diskpart /s E:\CreatePartitions.txt
and
2) E:\ApplyImage E:\Images\ThinImage.wim
Q: Above worked perfectly and it's exactly what I'm looking for. How do I incorporate 1) + 2) into MDT, or do I simply attempt to replicate the code from 1) + 2) under "Format and Partition Disk" under PreInstall\New
Computer only step?
Any advice or pointers would be really appreciated.

Recovery images, that's a different story.
First option is to increase the size of the System partition to the desired size:
BdeDriveSize=5000
Otherwise, the best solution I've seen is to build the standard MDT partition configuration using the default MDT "Format and Partition" step. and *THEN* shrink the partition to the desired size. Yes Shrink.

[SOLVED, kind of] UEFI bootable USB from ISO doesn't start

Hi there,
out of curiosity I wanted to create an UEFI bootable usb stick with the latest Archiso 2013.01.04. I've followed https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/UE … B_from_ISO
and created two directories
# mkdir -p /mnt/{usb,iso}
Then I've mounted Archiso to /mnt/iso
# mount -o loop Download/ISO-Images/archlinux-2013.01.04-dual.iso /mnt/iso
After this I used cfdisk to create a FAT32 filesystem /dev/sdb1 on the usb stick, followed by
# awk 'BEGIN {FS="="} /archisolabel/ {print $3}' /mnt/iso/loader/entries/archiso-x86_64.conf | xargs mkfs.vfat /dev/sdb1 -n
Then I've mounted /dev/sdb1 to /mnt/usb and copied all iso-files there:
# mount /dev/sdb1 /mnt/usb
# cp -r /mnt/iso/* /mnt/usb
Followed by:
# umount /mnt/{usb,iso}
# sync
After rebooting and hitting F11 I was presented with the UEFI firmware-tool from which I can choose UEFI (and other) applications to start. I could choose my usb stick in UEFI mode, but - only the screen turned blank for the blink of a second and the UEFI tool was on again.
Because my system is already booting in UEFI mode using rEFInd, I wanted to try rEFInd on the usb stick instead of gummiboot.
Following https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/UE … B_from_ISO I've copied /usr/lib/refind/refind_x64.efi (from refind-efi 0.6.4-1) to /mnt/usb/EFI/boot/bootx64.efi and created a /mnt/usb/EFI/boot/refind.conf with this text:

And yes, I've checked the "loader" and "initrd"-Paths - they are correct, as well as the archisolabel

Even my last attempt - keeping the original name refind_x64.efi in /mnt/usb/EFI/boot didn't help.
Via efibootmgr I can see:

Hm, funny thing - now it's working, but I don't know why
I've tried to convert the partition table of the usb stick from MBR to GPT using cgdisk. There I had a problem with setting the partition type to EF00. It worked under cgdisk, but then I couldn't mount my usb stick (dev/sdb1) anymore to /mnt/usb. Then I've tried to set the partition type to vfat, but couldn't identify what is vfat under cgdisk . I've tried different types of "Windows" but whatever I tried, the usb stick won't mount on /mnt/usb.
Journalctl always says:

So I tried it again with cfdisk which nagged about "unsupported GPT" but kept working. This time I choose "0C W95 FAT32 (LBA)" as partition type - maybe this did the trick because in my earlier attempts I did choose "0B W95 FAT32".

But - as I said earlier - I don't know what did the trick

Is it possible to remove my hard drive from the Macbook and install it in a new Macbook Pro?

I currently have a 2009 Macbook and am wanting to upgrade to a new Macbook Pro. I have upgraded my hard drive in the macbook to a 500gb and have a duel boot with Windows 7 installed with Boot Camp along with other software that I do not want to lose. Is it possible to remove my hard drive from the Macbook and install it in a new Macbook Pro?

A much better solution is to hook your two Mac together and the first time you start the new Mac and it asks if you wish to recover data from another Mac, answer yes. This will invoke Setup Assitant which will do the job for you but intelligently.
I know because I just used Setup Assitant. It worked like a charm.

How to move full OS bitlocker partition to larger hard drive?

Dear Microsoft Win7 Experts,
I have a fresh Windows 7 Enterprise image on my laptop's 100 GB hard drive. There is only one C: partition with OS+ stuff and it is Bitlocker encrypted.
Now the hardrive is almost full. I want to do following:
Buy and install a new 320GB hard drive
Copy the full Win7 100GB hard disk image into the hard drive (using Gparted)
Extend the 100GB image to entire 320GB to use it
Done. No reinstalling everything is needed.
Is this possible? We have Finnish on-site support from HCL "India's leading IT and technology company". They say that the above plan is impossible because of Bitlocker and that Win7 reinstall is absolutely needed.
Is this correct that I must reinstall everything when moving to larger hard drive?

Since this is one of the articles I found using Google, I hope my experience will help others.
I have a Dell mobile precision M6800 running Windows 8.1 Pro. It shipped with a 500 GB hard drive.
Work was kind enough to later buy me a Samsung 840 EVO 500 GB mSATA drive.
I had already setup Bitlocker and had it running with TPM + PIN for bootup, UEFI only with Secure Boot (All the paranoid options basically.)
I was able to clone the disk successfully by doing the following:
1. Suspend Protections on the source disk.
2. Use Clonezilla (Alternate AMD64 image) installing onto USB via TuxBoot. (Supports UEFI boot.)
3. Do a device to device copy, letting Clonezilla pick options for me. (Took about 1.5 hours to clone.) Not sure if just luck or Clonezilla being smart, but the partitions all lined up on 4096 boundaries.
4. Either remove the source disk now and delete the partition table, set it aside for emergencies, or reboot into clonezilla and use parted to wipe the partition table.
5. Boot from the SDD and enjoy. (I installed Samsung's magician software at this point ad tweaked the settings.)
What I had to do:

5. Had I just wiped out the source I would have been fine, but no such luck. I tried online-ing the disk is disk managment but that just broke its booting, and had to use the Dell backup and recovery USB stick to get the SSD booting again (Windows repair
did not work.)
End ruesults: bootup is about twice as fast (not nearly as instant as I would like), but application load times are almost non-existent now.

Upgrading Windows 7 (Legacy BIOS/MBR Disk) to Windows 8 (UEFI/GPT/Secure Boot)

I've recently purchased a W530 with Windows 7 pre-installed. Ultimately, I'd like to replace this with Window 8 + Secure Boot. I believe I can get Windows 8 via the Microsoft Upgrade offer for a reasonable price, since this was a recent purchase.
What's the best way to reach my goal?
The Windows 7 install uses Legacy BIOS to boot with an MBR disk.
I had a quick look at Acronis, and I can see that it's possible that the "OS will be automatically converted to support UEFI booting" (http://www.acronis.com/support/documentation/ABR11/index.html#14021.html) when using it's tool.
If I don't use this approach, what can I do? Can I:
1. Use Rescue and Recovery in Windows 7 (Legacy BIOS/MBR disk)
2. Wipe the drive and reformat it with GPT?
3. Install Windows 7 with UEFI enabled using the Rescue and Recovery made in step 1?
4. At this point, I would now have UEFI and GPT.
5. Perform an Upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 8 and enable Secure Boot?
Any thoughts as to whether this would work?

The Acronis approach ends up in failure. Didn't give it a second look at the reason, since the tool it's not necessary. I also tried several other "automatic" tools without success.
The recovery approach will fail because it's tied up to BIOS boot.
But I've performed the conversion from BIOS to UEFI two times successfully. After some digging, is not SO hard. It's just... "undocumented". Very, very undocumented, hehe. Anyway, if you don't have data/software, I would go for the clean install approach.

Edge e520 i5 UEFI/GPT Dual boot Windows/Ubuntu

I have an Edge e520 1143GVG. It has an UEFI-Board with Win7/64 on MBR-Harddisk.
What I want:
GPT-Partition scheme and dual boot Windows 7/64 and ubuntu 14.04/64.
I managed to backup the partitions on an external HDD, install GPT on Harddisk, recopy saved Partitions and have now a fully running Win7/64 on GPT-System (it wasn't that easy as it seems here).
Next Step is to install Ubuntu on a separate Partition. I took a standard Ubuntu boot-CD, startet the pc with that boot disk (Board-Settings: UEFI/BIOS "Both", UEFI First) and installed Ubuntu without any trouble. Unfortunately no boot entry has been generated, so I tried to add one with EasyBCD. That doesn't work, an error is shown like "Windows cannot be startet, no valid file /NST/grub.mbr" or something like that.
I think the reason is that the cd booted in BIOS Mode, not UEFI. If I set board setting to "UEFI only", the boot CD will not start. So I built a bootable Ubuntu USB-Flashdrive with GPT-Scheme, but it didn't start as well.
After that I updated BIOS hoping UEFI-Boot from external devices will be possible then. It isn't.
The e520-board seems to be outdated or faulty, it is not possible to boot from USB or CD in UEFI-Mode.
Does anyone knows a solution? Will Lenovo update the BIOS?

I have to update my problem:
booting in gpt/uefi-mode is impossible from usb-key, but is ok from DVD. I managed to install Ubuntu now, everything runs well, after I took a 64-bit version on a dvd.
