Is it possible to change the size of a partitioned hard drive?

I use an iBook G4 (PowerPC) and partitioned an external hard drive. Is it possible to adjust the size of the partition without losing the contents of the external drive? If so, how?
Thanks!

Hi The Zach;
Please read the requirements of these applications for resizing partitions very carefully! Most of them suggest that you back up prior to using them.
After reading all of these warning rather then using any of these applications what I simply do is the backup first then change the partitioning with Disk Utilities and restore. I find this method to be quick and inexpensive.

    Thanks for the reply UKoC. You are close on the size. I would say they are about an inch to an inch and a half in width and only seven across the row. They just seem quite large on my display and I figured there would be an easy way. I kept thinking I just had to be missing the way for adjusting them since everything else seems to be so easy to personalize. Funny thing is that I have watched an online tutorial twice now on Apple's web site showing Launchpad and the icons shown there are smaller and more of them. I just thought I was missing the fix somehow. Thanks for confirming this.

    I am a first-time user of the photo book application in iPhoto. I am wondering if it is possible to:
    1. change the size of a text box
    2. have more than one text box on a page
    3. move the text box around.
    Thanks, in advance, for any suggestions someone might have.

  • Is it possible to change the size of the 'Close' button in Full Screen viewing mode?

    I am currently using Firefox for a kiosk type scenario. We require that the browser run full screen. The issue is that the 'Close' button is not large enough for users to consistently see, so they're having issues figuring out how to close an active browser window.
    Can anyone tell me if it's possible to change this icon? I've tried using themes, but they tend to theme everything but the close button.
    Custom configuration details are below.
    Firefox version: firefox-3.0.4-1.el5.centos
    Customisations:
    Access to local drives disabled:
    Modified the contents of /usr/lib/firefox-3.0.4/chrome/browser.jar, so that browser.js has the added stanza:
    <pre><nowiki>if (location.match(/^file:/) ||
    location.match(/^\//) ||
    location.match(/^resource:/) ||
    (!location.match(/^about:blank/) &&
    location.match(/^about:/))) {
    loadURI("about:blank");
    }</nowiki></pre>
    Various menus & bookmarks disabled in chrome/userChrome.css
    <pre><nowiki>/* Kill "normal" bookmark icons in the bookmarks menu */

  • If I change the name of my internal Hard drive how will it affects my time machine backup

    Hi can anyone tell me the answer to this please?
    My mates Hard drive is called Ian's HD and he wants to change it to My HD will it affect the Time Machine backup?

    Thanks so much.
    That's what I thought but it's always best to get a second opinion.

  • How do I change the name of my external hard drive?

    When I updated to OSX Mavericks my external hard drive changed its name from "HD-PZU3" to "HD-PZU3 1". Which you can imagine has messed up all my applications, the most important being iTunes, and it would be great if I could just change the name back so as to keep the preferences on most of my applications the same.

    In the Library module, in the Folders tab on the left, do a right-click "show parent" until you can see the root of the drive.
    From there, if you cannot rename the drive from there, then rename it in the OS finder/explorer. Then you just need to reconnect that one root directory or drive entry and Lightroom will do all the work for you.

  • How can I change the settings of an external hard drive?

    I have a 250-GB external hard drive connected to my Mac mini, whose files and folders I can´t delete as it shows up as a read-only disk. According to the Mac help, I can use the files on a disk by clicking on the "Get Info" label and selecting "Ignore ownership on this volume" at the bottom of the menu. However, when I try to do that, the "Ignore ownership on this volume" checkbox doesn´t even show up on the menu. Any suggestions or alternatives to get to delete those files I no longer need? Thanks in advance for your assistance.

    If you want to erase the entire drive you can format it with Disk Utility (in Applications/Utilities).
    Mario is right about NTFS. If you drive is formatted as such (which would mean it was used by Windows at some point) then the issue is related to permissions (actually NTFS-formatted drives don't have permissions, but Access Control Lists instead), it's just that Mac OS X can't write to these disks.

  • Can't seem to change the permissions on an external hard drive

    HEELLLLPPP! We have a Western Digital terabyte hard drive that we initially set up on our Mac. We backed up both my husband's and my iTunes libraries to this hard drive from our individual work PCs, and reconnected to the Mac to do some duplicate file clean up. . . only the durn Drive seems to have it's permissions now locked as read only. Is there a way to re-set the Western Digital permissions on the Mac so that we can truly clean up and delete all duplicate files? We both just spent a combined effort of about 25 hours in iTunes deleting (we THOUGHT) almost 25 gig of duplicates, but when they didn't delete from the hard drive. . .
    Repair of this drive in Disk Utility is not available (all options grayed out), we have re-hooked it up to our windows PCs and reset file attributes, security, etc. and given "Full Control" to all users, and it still shows up as Read Only on the Mac.
    Anybody have any ideas?

    Select the drive in the Finder and choose Get Info from the File menu; if it is listed as being in the Windows NT Filesystem, install a software package such as this one onto the Mac.

  • Is it possible to change the size of the Picture in Address Book

    Hi, the contact pictures in the Address Book are way to small, is there the possibility to show them bigger??
    Thanks

    No, I don't think so. When you put a picture on the card you can control what part of the picture is used, but there is no control for the subsequent size.
    You could try using OS X Feedback and ask them to change it in the next release ...

  • Is it possible to change the font and font-size in Richtooltip?

    Hiya,
    For "RichTooltip" I'd like to change the font and/or font-size is that possible?
    Is it possible to change the size of the tooltip box so that it is wider?
    Currently my tooltip looks quite ugly:
    I tried reading the help but I couldn't find a way to do this using the API for sap.ui.commons.RichTooltip
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi,
    you can use something like this for formatted text.
    <script>
                var oTextField = new sap.ui.commons.TextField({
                      valueState : sap.ui.core.ValueState.Error
                }).placeAt("content");
                var sHtml = "The rating specifies the trustworthiness of the account. You can choose between the following values:<br>";
                sHtml += "<ul>";
                sHtml += '<li><strong>A:</strong> <font color="blue", size ="2px" family="Helvetica">Highly trustworthy</font></li>';
                sHtml += "<li><strong>B:</strong> In generel trustworthy but some weak moments</li>";
                var oRttTextField = new sap.ui.commons.RichTooltip({
                      text : sHtml
                oTextField.setTooltip(oRttTextField);
                </script>
          </head>
          <body class="sapUiBody" role="application">
                <div id="content"></div>

  • Changing the size of fonts in InDesign's menus and toolbars?

    Is it possible to change the size of fonts in InDesign's menus and toolbars? I'd love for the Control Panel at the top to be a bit easier to read.

    Thanks Bob, didn't see it anywhere but figured it was worth asking. I think the size is a little biased toward people with better vision than me but I guess I'll have to live with that.

  • Can you change the size of the preview images on an Apple TV without changing video resolution?

    I have a 32 inch LCD TV. My room is relatively large and I can't easily see the preview images or read the text on the TV across the room. Is it possible to change the size of preview images in the menu screens without increasing the resolution of the TV itself? I think this should be possible, but can't seem to find a way to do it.

    No that's not something you can do on the Apple TV.
    If you have any suggestions that you think might enhance the Apple TV you can send Apple your feedback here.

    Christopher,
    Also If you want, you might look into the "Zoom" Accessibility feature.
    System Preferences > Accessibility > "Zoom" in the list on the left > Pick the Zoom settings you like.
    I myself am fond of and use the options "Use scroll gesture with modifier keys to zoom:" and Zoom Style: "Picture-in-Picture"
    The "Picture-in-Picture" makes a little magnifying like glass that follows my cursor around compared to the whole screen zooming in.
    The Modifier key one makes so that When I hold down ( Control ) and scroll it zooms in. You can control the depth of the zoom by scrolling more or less.
    Apples Help info on Zoom:
