Is it possible to embed a file that can be opened with another app in IBA?

We're making a music instructional book and would like to "embed" a .tef file that can be opened by the free tefPad reader:

I don't think it is possible, but wanted to see if there is some trick we haven't found.

Check the iBooks Author, > Help > Media and Graphics and / or if you an iTunes Connect account, open and > > Deliver your Content on the right of some of the options are links to a number of PDF, Asset Guides, Formatting guides etc,.
iBooks Authur has a few widgets and there are many thrid party widget makers online such as Bookry, who may also be able to create what you want if its technically possible - at a price.

Sorry, I cannot post a URL to the file because it is for intenal use only.
I noticed that the pdf file can be opened outside of IE browser if I disable the Adobe Reader add-on (active-X) in IE browser. If I enable the Reader add-on, the Reader cannot complete the file download. The progress bar goes in a half way, and stays there.
Just FYI, the pdf file was created by Distiller 7. Do you think it is the issue of Reader add-on? Thanks.

Zip a file that can be opened with winzip

I have a bit of a problem in finding a solution, to how to I compress a file and open it again with winzip?? PLease can anyone help me!?

Max number of files that can be opened in harddrive through AEBS?

What is the maximum number of files that can be opened in a external hard drive (Lacie 500 GB, USB 2.0) connected through the AEBS? Looks like there is a limit.
When I am trying to 'seed' files through a bit-torrent client (Azureus 2.5.0.4) many of them give an error "Error: too many open files". I never had this error before.
When I tried to delete a file in the hard drive, I got the error "too many open files". Then I stopped 'seeding' in Azureus and I was able to delete the file.

Is it possible to only view files that could be opened by a program?

Hello all, this is my first mac and for the most part I find it as good or better than windows in almost everyway. One feature that I guess I took for granted in windows was that it only displayed files that could be opened by a program in that program. For instance when I am in powerpoint and I want to open another powerpoint file, I would hit open and it would only display powerpoint files. I have noticed in OS X if you go to open, then enable all powerpoint files all it does is grey out everything but the powerpoint files. Is there anyway instead of graying them out, it just doesn't display them like what happens in windows? Thanks for your help, Scott

This has nothing to do with the OS. It's controlled by the individual program. The programmer has to write the specific code for what will or will not be displayed in a file dialog. If the programmer uses the code primitives "normally" then unmatching files are grayed out. This way you can still see files in the directory in case you want to open a file that has the wrong extension. Usually the application provides a drop down menu where you can select options such as display all files, only matching files, etc. However, the programmer has to implement these features.
One thing that will help you a great deal is to stop looking for OS X to be like Windows. Although there are many elements that are similar there are many more that are not. If you haven't read this yet, you may find it helpful: Switch 101.

How to read data from a file that is already open by another program

Hey..
I have made IV, where I'm trying to read data from a log file, that is being updated by another program while my IV runs.
To be clear, this program writes data continuously to this file and I want to read from the file in LV at the same time.
The problem is that LV reports an error when I'm trying to read the log file, even if I use to "read only" mode.
I believe that the program that is producing the file, have some kind of lock on the file. I have tryed to copy the file and then reading from the copied file, but LV throws already an error when I try to copy the file.
Has anyone tryed this, and found a solution.?
Additional info: The program that produces the file is STM Studio

when that file is locked by the other program you can't do anything about that - apart from quitting that other program. Probably this isn't an option to you…

i am getting an error "Too many files open".
I am closing the streams i dun want but just that I have to open many files.....
what is the max number that can be opened? is there any way to increase this number?

LabVIEW binary format that can be opened with Python

I need to save data in a binary format which can be opened with Python. I have tried the "Write Waveforms to File (1D).vi" and can open them back up in LabView, but the binary format is not published anywhere, so I cannot open them in Python. They appear to be saving as DataLog type binary files.
Is there another binary format which I can use that I can open in Python?
The reason I need this is that with 16-channel DAQ at 20kHz I can only save about 30 seconds of data. For longer periods, the task of writing to a text file consumes all available memory and cpu.

I found a solution. I found an open-source project called pyTDMS (google for it), and it can read tdms type files sometimes. It was some trial and error to get my data saved in a way that pyTDMS could open the file, but in the end it works great.
I have two digital output channels as well as 16 analog input channels, so here is how I had to save the data within LabView:
The 16 analog input channels were saved as a 1D array of waveforms. Then the digital output channels were made into another 1D array of waveforms. The trick was to use the write tdms subvi twice. Once for the analog input channels and again, on the same file, for the digital output channels. pyTDMS opens these files just fine, and I can use the metadata to sort out what channels the data goes with in Python.

Is it possible to save a file that won't open anymore?

I have an Indesign CS6 file that I haven't opened for a few months and now it won't open and crashes Indesign each time I try opening it.
All other Indesign files are OK, but this one???
Does anyone have any suggestions bar recreating the file, which is my last resort. I do have the PDF that I sent to the printers, but need to add in two new pages.

I'd like to echo Peter's concerns about opening PDFs in Illustrator... Illustrator is not a PDF editor. The only PDFs that can be safely opened in Illustrator is a PDF that is saved from Adobe Illustrator using File>Save As>PDF.
There are other options available - Markzware can and do as far as I know convert the InDesign file to Quark and back to InDesign as a service - you could try contacting them if all else fails http://markzware.com/support/

Create a PDF file that can be opened in PS

Hello,
I a cartographer that is creating a map with thousands of contour lines (among many other layers) in .ai. Unfortunately, I can't open this map in PS. PS will think for upwards of 10 hours trying to rasterize this file (and at that point it was about 1/100th converted). If I turn the contour layer off, PS can open/rasterize the file in a matter of minutes.
My goal is to open this .ai file in PS and then save it as a .tiff for printing. Does anyone know how to go about doing this? FYI, I have opened this file in InD and exported it as a PDF, but PS can't open it either.

I have an information plug-in that gets a little more specific. In all I have 850,000 verticies (2 points and a connecting line segment) which equates to about 5,250 paths. I can't simplify too much, however, I have simplified the paths 5 x at 99%. If I try to simplify at just 95% my contour lines will not line up with my streams and valleys.
Do you know the maximum amount of verticies that can be handled?

Need Help With Exporting EPS Files That Will Be Opened In Another Program

I am trying to export some files from Illustrator in EPS format, to be used in another program called "Blufftitler". Their documentation is pretty sparse and doesn't go into much detail. It only mentions the following:
"Limited support
BluffTitler has limited EPS support. It only imports filled shapes built out of lines and curves from uncompressed, unoptimized EPS files."
No matter what settings I try in Illustrator when exporting the EPS file, it won't open in Blufftitler, and keeps throwing me errors. I tried Choosing "Illustrator 3" as the format, and turning off the preview option. I also tried "expanding" the shape itself several times too. Is there some other way in Illustrator to just export a bare-bones EPS files without any extras or other stuff that might cause problems with other programs?
The funny thing is, when I create EPS files with another program, such as Vector Magic, they work fine in Blufftitler - it just seems to have a problem with EPS files created in Illustrator specifically.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!

The main problem is with BluffTitler is it doesn't have a very good eps handler as it can really only import eps files that are about 10k each and are not overly complex. If you look at all the sample .eps files that come with it, each one is about 1 or 2k each. A simple circle in Illustrator, even when saved as v3 without a preview, is around 258k. The reason for the larger file sizes is due to the extra things being saved in the file that aren't even on the page, such as brush presets and graphic styles. The sample .eps files that come with BluffTitler don't have these presets so the files are already smaller.
Something you may want to try is to open up one of the sample eps files and use that file for your vector work but save the file with a new name. I found that by doing this I could get the files down to a much smaller size. You may also want to setup any vectors in Illustrator first, save them, and then open the files in InkScape, http://www.inkscape.org. From what I've read, InkScape can get you fairly small file sizes so it's something you should check out.

Use LV to read data from a file that is already open in another program.

My operators use an office application where they pull up PDF and Word data sheets for various components that we test.
The URL looks like this:

I have no idea how to get to this from LV.
What I need: when an operator selects a document (PDF or Word) from this list I want LV to know what document was selected and have LV read the data from it.

I mistyped. It's not an office application but a Windows application that stores documents on our company intranet. The user clicks on a hyperlink of a document that can be either in Word or PDF format and it opens the document. I want LV to "see" this somehow so I can get the text data from the document. I realize this is more Microsoft/.net/magic than LV but was just wondering if anyone else has done something like this.

We have just received an illustrator v17 file that we cant open with our boxed version 16.0.4...

is that is then - is this the start - it seems too soon - of the slippery slope that will see us have to upgrade to the new version - what meaningful reason makes these files incompatable... other than the obvious marketing ones...

It is hard that it is completely impossible to open a newer version (with Clipping Masks/flattening/whatever). But maybe it is a protection against unnoticed crucial/unacceptable changes in the files.

How can I increase the number of .pdf files that can be open at once from 20?

I like the new integrated pdf viewer in Firefox a lot because I'm constantly browsing datasheets at work. However, it seems to have a limit of 20 simultaneous files. The machine I'm working has no danger of running out of memory any time soon, so is there a setting I can change to increase this limit?

hello michael, this limit is not directly related to pdf-files in the internal viewer, but you can try the following to work around the issue: enter '''about:config''' into the firefox location bar (confirm the info message in case it shows up) & search for the preference named '''dom.workers.maxPerDomain'''. double-click the preference and set it to a higher value.

How to export output to Excel (or file that can be opened by excel).

Have entered an SQL statement and Executed the Statement. Now I want to save the result in Excel. But I cannot find a way to save the result. When I choose to save I only save the SQL statement.
