Is it possible to import a .idea file into Illustrator CS3?
I have sketches and files on Adobe Idea on the iPad. How to I bring them into Illustrator and preserve the layers, etc? .png, .pdf and .jpg don't seem to do this. I'm sorry if this is a "no duh" question, but I am just starting out with these programs and would appreciate the help. The question didn't turn up in a forum search.
Thank you in advance!
~Anna
Mr. Zimmerman,
Thank you for taking up six post spaces on this forum question. Obviously I haven't read any of the app information, or subscribed to the adobe cloud, or searched the forums, despite having used those to discover this problem. Perhaps I should have underlined the program name that I mentioned in my original post, and the file formats I listed, which are only available if downloaded from the cloud, so that you could have more easily understood my question. I should have included Google link for the application so you wouldn't have to waste time looking it up for yourself. Maybe I should have mentioned that I called support and they suggested that I post in the forums to see if anyone else had gotten around the problem.
Also, sadly, the link doesn't answer my question. You seem to think that I am simply trying to export files. I have demonstrated in my original question and my reply to a previous answer, that I have already exported in every file available for use with the app and the cloud. I was asking, since I need to clarify, why .idea files would not open in Illustrator CS3, and why, when other file formats were tried, did they not preserve the layers. Also, since they wouldn't, was there another way to export besides the -listed- export file formats that would allow layers. And, as before when I tried a search in the Adobe Ideas forum, there was no answer to how to open an idea file in CS3, or preserve the layers in CS3 in any of the other file formats offered.
I am sorry that you misunderstood my question.
Have a lovely day!
~Anna

Import Quark 6 files into InDesign CS3?
I'm looking to import my old QuarkExpress 6 files into Indesign CS3. I saw that there is a plug in for about $199 that would allow Indesign to import these files. Is that the only way, or is there a cheaper way to make this happen?
Thanks for any input. This is not a design question. Please ask in the ID forum.

Can not import PhotoShop CS3 files into Illustrator CS3
Worked just fine yesterday. I can place a JPG. I typically just drag a PSD into Illustrator. I now get an error message sayng it can not read the file. I have tried placing the file and nothing happens (no messages or warnings).
I tried saving the PSD as a TIF, but no luck here either.
I have tried opening a new file and dragging various PSD files in. It seems that none of the work any longer.
And yes I've rebooted.I have the exact same problem. I haven't placed PSD files into Illustrator for quite a while, but I just tried it this morning and it doesn't work (just like the OP). I even opened a file about a year old, which used to work just fine, but now the PSD file doesn't appear and I can't re-import it. So it has to be some issue recently introduced.
@Galumph - I have Vista x64 and 8GB of RAM. Is there a specific issue that applies to this particular combo? -
Is it possible to import an avi file into iTunes?
I am trying to import in a TV show that i have downloaded as an avi file into iTunes. However when i try to import it nothing happens, if i try and change the file format into a mp4 it wont recognize it. Does anyone have any ideas?
I can not find it in any other file format anywhere online.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank youExport the OMF from an audio app like ProTools or Logic as a stereo pair AIFF, then use that with your video. Chop it up if you need to checkerboard.
Of course this will only work if the audio is very simple - overlapping audio will mess you up. If you can figure out the audio app part, you can split up your OMF into separate tracks.
But then if you can't get it into an audio app, you're a bit hosed. -
Importing Photoshop files into Illustrator CS3
I'm running into a problem in Illustrator CS3 when I try and import a native CS3 Photoshop file. If I try and place the file as a linked file I get an application error stating that there was insufficient virtual memory. And, if I select cancel I get a run time error and Illustrator crashes.
If I try and embed the file I get the same results. It doesn't seem to matter what the file size is and .tif's work just fine up to huge sizes 100Mb+.
As to the system I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate (x64) 8Gb of ram, two SCSI drives with virtual ram assigned to both so memory issues, well, shouldn't be issues.
Anyone got any ideas?Ok, so ADOBE needs to get up off their a$$e$ and address this problem, However some of you guys make it sound like its the end of the world... Here's a way to go around it in the meantime- at least this is how my PC is reacting (you might not be as lucky, but worth a try)
After getting my "insufficient virtual memory" error, try closing Illustrator down and then open the file from the OS window (not from within illustrator or browse)by double-clicking the file you'll automatically open Illustrator,it might take a couple of tries but after my second attempt it opened my file (took a little long) and I got a different error message "there was an error with the embeded file what do you want to do - replace file, correct file, ignore file, cancel" (msg not verbatim but close - not at my comp right now)
Then just ignore the files delete the links (they'll show up as blank boxes) If your just using those embedded psd's for previewing purposes you'll just have to save a flattened tiff everytime you make a change and keep saving over that same tiff so illustrator will automatically update it to you illustrator file.
sorry for the long post, but hopefully it helps ease the pain!

Importing CAD files into Illustrator CS3 - does'nt scale dashed lines
In CS2 you could import a CAD file and it would scale dashed lines.
In CS3, Illustrator no longer does this. It scales the stroke weight, but does not recognize the dashed line information.
Is there a solution to this?
Thank youYou can expand dashed lines first and then scale them.
Then you will get a whole bunch of vector objects, one for each dash.
I am not very familiar with CAD, but I know that imported CAD files are sometimes fiendishly difficult to edit because vector lines are often in small pieces that don't join up properly.
So I reckon Expand on all lines and then judicious Unite in Pathfinder would probably be the best way of going about things. Unite makes Compounds of closed paths so you have to be careful, otherwise you might get a huge file that won't print without splitting.
But remember that once you've expanded the lines you won't be able to edit their weight.

Is it possible to import a wav file into flash that is 48MB?
If I can only crunch the file down by 90% then I'm still at a
huge amount of MB. What is a "reasonable" amount of MB's that can
be uploaded so it loads quickly enough for dial up folks?
I have a client with a 10 minute video. He has it saved in
MPG and WAV. In wav he just told me it's at 48MB.
Should I even bother with a file size this large?
Any advice out there??
LindaHi,
If you target audience will use a dial up connection, then
you should consider the SWF file size to be small, I do not know a
standard, but I guess not more than 200-300 k. And use a preloaded
in the first of it.
The large WAV files helps increasing the file size, but it is
not the only reason. You have to tell your client to consider the
size in the files he or she sends. And you can optimize your file
and idea storyboard to keep the size small. -
Importing a .class file into my package?
Hi. I'm making a java program but I need to use an external .class file to get variables and use methods from. Is it possible to "import" a class file into my package to be able to do so?
ThanksBasically, for our last project we created a class
that held the information about a year: how many days
were in a month, how many months were in a year, etc.
etc. For this project, we'll be having to use that
same class to make a GUI calendar. Our teacher
provided a class which he compiled for us to use in
our projects incase our previous class had some flaws
in it, which mine did. Unfortunately, it's in .class
format and I don't know how to use it in my package! That's going to be a problem then. I would assume that it is going to have an API like your old one did. Same name and same methods etc. So do you know what the name and method signatures of your class were supposed to be? -
Importing a WAR file into WebLogic 8.1
Hello,
First post here so go easy on me :-D
Is it possible to import a WAR file into WebLogic 8.1? If so, how?
I have a WAR file created using Eclipse and want to test if I can take that WAR file and rebuild the project in WebLogic.
Any help is appreciated?
Thanks,
TommyI,
your domain should be started in developement mode. Then, just copy your
war file in the "applications" directory under your domain directory.
Emmanuel
Tommy Dunne a ?crit :
Thanks Emmanuel, I had a look at that link you sent me.
Im still isnt 100% clear to me...In tomcat when you have a WAR file you can just put it in the webapps directory and tomcat will automatically expand it for you and you can run the application straight away.
Is there such functionality in weblogic? How do you get weblogic to see the WAR file? Do you have to create a project or anything?
Sorry if this is a very basic question... -
"Input contract violation" error message when trying to import a .wav file into AE?
I am trying to import a .wav file into AE and keep getting an "input contract violation" message from the program followed by it shutting down. If it means anything, I bought the song online, but it has been paid for and I downloaded the .wav file after my purchase. Any idea of why this may be happening? Are there any particular settings which may be mandatory on the project timeline to import a 3min song? Thank you!
YOu have not provided any system info, not told us what version of AE you use, your audio setting, what specifics in the audio file and a million other things. See how it may not be possible for anyone to tell you anything beyond "Your computter sucks!" ???

Error While Importing from EIF file into AW
Hi All,
I am facing the following error while importing from EIF file into AW using AWM as well as from sql prompt.
java.sql.SQLException: ORA-36786: (IOSEC04) File POCAW/abc.eif does not exist or cannot be accessed.
ORA-06512: at "SYS.DBMS_AW", line 42

at oracle.olap.awm.ui.dialog.ThreadedDialogActionThread.run(ThreadedDialogActionThread.java:49)
i have already created the directory pocaw.
i have done the following steps :
CREATE OR REPLACE DIRECTORY POCAW as 'D:\Olap_POC\export';
GRANT all ON DIRECTORY POCAW to PUBLIC;
execute dbms_aw.execute ('aw create ''POC_AW''');
execute dbms_aw.execute('cda pocaw');
execute dbms_aw.execute('dtb attach POC_AW rw');
execute dbms_aw.execute('import all from eif file ''/abc.eif'' dfns update ');
any idea or thought would be appreciable.
thanks n advance
anwarexecute dbms_aw.execute('import all from eif file''/abc.eif'' dfns update ');
Maybe one of the following file names could help
(have never tried it):
''abc.eif''
''POC_AW\abc.eif''Yes,
you don't need the slash. CDA is like setting a default directory. -
Cannot import a .mov file into the library
I am trying to import a .mov file into my library so I can
create a .fla file. Every time I try to import it into the library
using the import wizard, it starts the importing process and always
quits not quite two minutes into the process. It then returns me to
the front page of the import wizard. I have done this before with
absolutely no problems.
The one thing that I am wondering about is the size of this
particular .mov file. It is 377MB. Do you think this may be part of
my problem? Thank you in advance for anyone's input or
suggestions!Jeremy Williams wrote:

I would consider 10mb to be too big for a flash file. Even if
it was CD
I would load it dynamically to avoid performance problem.
377mb is out of the question way beyond flash ability to
maintain stable
performance, not just the final output but the IDE itself.

How to import a Photoshop file into Indesign CS6 so that it's layers show in InDesign and it can then be edited/saved as an InDesign file?
MyTienN wrote:
Someone had mentioned the possibility of saving each individual layer in Photoshop as a png file and importing into Indesign and adjusting it in there
What do you mean by "adjust"? Editing of Photoshop images should be done in Photoshop.
Sure, it's possible to save individual layers from an image in Photoshop as inidvidual files in a variety of formats, but what's the point? You could just as easily import the layered file, then copy/paste it into a new layer for each layer in the image and use layer visibility to control which ones show. I don't think that will do you a lot of good, though, if you use adjustment layers or opacity controls on the layer in Photoshop. -
Importing a csv file into addressbook
So I did a search & found this question has come up quite often, but with the person having a slightly different problem, so here goes.
I am trying to import a csv file into address book, when I go import -> text tile it comes up like it should do and I pick the file, if I select ok at this point, it will quite happily import all of the data no trouble (but in the wrong categories). So I make the changes to what I want ie. Phone other --> Phone (work). Then when I click ok, the button goes from blue to white but nothing happens.
When I open the csv file in textedit I can see all the values separated by commas.
Any Ideas?I too just had this problem. To clarify all fields work and you can map them. I found that the Outlook CSV file had two problems which were tripping up the AddressBook import function. Note these were both in street address fields so I suspect the poster who said that addresses don't work may have been having that problem.
The CSV load program does not work if you have commas "," in your data. In my case this was very common for some European addresses as well as some company names. And then the second problem was if there was a carriage return or new line character in a field. This later one was a problem with the address fields. I suspect an AddressBook export to CSV might have this same issue. Specifically, when there were multiple lines to the street address, they had been entered as multiple lines in street address one, as opposed to entering them in multiple fields such as "street 1", "street 2", etc.
To solve the problem I opened the CSV file using Numbers and did a global find and replace on: commas, substituting the string --- and on the newline character "ΒΆ" (ALT+Rreturn) with *.
Note to reduce some of the remapping I also changed all of the labels with "business" in the header row of the CSV file to "work". This made it a little easier for the AddressBook import function to map fields more correctly.
After these set of changes rather than the alternating blue then white with nothing behavior it cleanly loaded all of my names. I could then search for "---" and "*" in addressbook's search field to identify all addresses which I had to clean up.
I hope that is helpful to someone else. The import function really does work. However, it is not robust enough to deal with certain oddities in one's data.
