Is it possible to keep a macbook pro charged to only 60%(when plugged in)?
My purpose is extending the battery lifespan of my rMBP battery. I only use it at home. I know it needs some modification in OS X or Battery firmware and it's not an easy thing to do, and no one has done it yet. Any possibility for this?
According to battery university keeping SoC between 20% and 80% is best for maximizing the lifespan of all kinds of batteries and car makers do this for electric cars' batteries, so why not to do this for laptops? for example imagine when the battery SoC reaches to 60% or 80% the light on magsafe turns green and charging stops.

1st Gen. Macbook Pro Turns Off Suddenly, Even When Plugged In
Help Me!
My 1.83 Ghz Intel Core Duo shuts down without warning after I start it up. Sometimes it's 1 minute into the startup, sometimes its 10. But after installing snow leopard 10.6, it does this everytime without fail. My screen doesn't work, so I have it plugged it into an external monitor. When it's turned on and working, it functions perfectly. But all of a sudden, it will turn off. I copied the power information from the system profiler, which is pasted below. Any help on possible fixes would be great. Maybe some sort of MPU reset or something. Also, I tested the battery I'm currently using in another Macbook Pro of the same exact model, and it works fine. Help Me!

So I tried to upgrade to Mavericks today and it failed (same error as in this post which seemed to be a common problem). It wouldn't let me repair the disk, and after trying all sorts I rebooted my computer in recovery mode - it wouldn't let me reinstall Lion because the hard drive was apparently locked and I could see no way around this. So I decided to restore from a Time Machine backup on an external hard drive and that worked okay, except my MacBook now only works when the external hard drive is connected. If I remove the external hard drive, I'm back to square one as it still won't let me reinstall Lion as the HD is locked!
I have no idea what's going on. HELP!The startup drive is failing, or there is some other internal hardware fault.
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider.
If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
Keeping your confidential data secure during hardware repair
Apple also recommends that you deauthorize a device in the iTunes Store before having it serviced.
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed. -
Macbook Pro i7 Won't Sleep When Plugged In
I have a macbook pro 15in i7 model 6,2 that will no longer sleep when plugged in anymore. It seems to have started after I applied the latest firmware updates the other day.
I have tried two different power adapters and still have the same problem. If I close the lid, it will start to go to sleep, and then will wakeup, over and over again. As soon as I unplug the power cable, it will go to sleep. If I plug the power cable back in, it powers up and starts cycling again. The fan never really cuts off and the display will go black, and then flash back on.
Any ideas? I really don't want to have to reinstall the OS just to find out it's a firmware issue. I'm not sure what to do from here.
ThanksI have the same issue - sleep works fine when unplugged, but when plugged in it just cycles on/sleep/on/sleep if the top is closed, or just comes back on seconds later if i sleep it with top open.
Resetting the SMC does nothing. This only started to happen in the last weeks, and not much has changed on my system except mac updates, so it must be something in there...
A real pain.

Keep Macbook Pro Charged or Use Battery?
I'm confused on whether or not to keep my Macbook Pro charged or use the battery from 100% until it reaches 0% and charge it again. I've read other posts and websites and they say I should keep it charged. I know you have to calibrate it, but I'm still confused on how the battery usage works. I currently have 63 loadcycles.
"For proper maintenance of a lithium-based battery, it’s important to keep the electrons in it moving occasionally. Apple does not recommend leaving your portable plugged in all the time. An ideal use would be a commuter who uses her notebook on the train, then plugs it in at the office to charge. This keeps the battery juices flowing. If on the other hand, you use a desktop computer at work, and save a notebook for infrequent travel, Apple recommends charging and discharging its battery at least once per month. "

How can I keep my MacBook Pro from heating up and crashing when I play Sims 3?
I have a MacBook Pro that is only about 9 monthes old. When I play Sims 3 on my computer it heats up very quickly. I can get about an hour of game play before the computer becomes slow and extremely hot. Then cetain parts of the screen turn white untill the whole screen turns white and a message appears saying something about an error happening. I am not sure if it has something to do with the computer heating up or if it's a EA problem. But if anyone has had a similar experience and knows how to fix it, that would be great. Also, any tips on how to keep my computer cool while playing games or watching movies would be great.
Thank you!Your computer is going to run hot while playing CPU/GPU intensive games - it should heat up and the fans should be noticably loud. As to why it's 'crashing' - can you post a kernel panic log? You may have some third-party kexts that are causing the problems.

Is it possible to connect a MacBook Pro (prev model 2009, 2.26ghz) to an Apple Thunderbolt display: will the cable fit?
Sorry it won't work. It will fit but the laptop can't communicate with it. Please see many of the other threads here, specifically this one just above your post, that is discussing this exact question.
Apple's specs for the ThunderBolt display state that it needs a ThunderBolt-enabled computer. Your laptop has a mini-display port connection so it is not compatible with the new displays. -
Good evening ! recently, i noticed that my macbook pro make a weird sound when i open the screen, it's like there is something keeping the screen from moving correctly.the little noise comes exactly from the left side of the axis.please advice me what to do
(i live in morocco and i need to know where i should take ma macbook to get it fixed and if the warranty take this problem in charge)
thank you in advance
macbook pro mid2012 i7 (here is my e-mail adress : [email protected])You should take it to an Apple store or an AASP (Authorized Apple Service Provider) Carefully inspect the hinge joint and make sure there is no debris that you can see, you can try carefully sliding some sticky tape thru the joint to clear any loose stuff out. But this sounds like there might be more going on here, and the hinge is something that you do not want to fool with.

HT5628 Is it possible to install MS-Windows on MacBook Pro as the only OS
Is it possible to install MS-Windows on MacBook Pro as the only OS, using all the space of the SSD, by de-isntalling thus completely the Mac OS?
Yes.
but
You will have to erase the drive completely and install Windows, you can't achieve it just by deleting OSX
I do not recommend that you do it. -
Is it possible to upgrade a macbook pro 15 late 2008 memory upgrade to 8 go
Hi from Belgium,
Is it possible to upgrade a macbook pro 15 late 2008 memory from 4 to 8 go. And if yes would i have to replace both memory modules.
I'm also experiencing problems with the battery. Could you tell me if the new replacement batteries are based on the new techonology (long lasting) or if the replacement battery will be the same as the original one.
Thanks and have a good day.
FrancisHi CMCSK and thanks.
Maybe it's because of the SMC reset I've done.
My computer wasn't responding to the power button when pressed and used to shut down unexpectedly so I did the SMC reset as per the procedure hereafter.
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964?viewlocale=en_US
So according to you, the battery seems to work properly and doesn't need to be replaced.
Don't know if it's important but the figures I gave where the one with magsafe connected.
In fact for the time beeing I only use my computer with magsafe plugged.
I just unplugged the magpower and here are the new figures after 10 minutes.
Charge Information:
Charge Remaining (mAh): 3103
Fully Charged: No
Charging: No
Full Charge Capacity (mAh): 3491
Health Information:
Cycle Count: 245
Condition: Normal
Battery Installed: Yes
Amperage (mA): -1431

How do I keep my macbook pro from automatically rearranging my folders and PDF files on my desktop
How do I keep my macbook pro from automatically rearranging my folders and PDF files on my desktop? It seems to happen a lot after I've hooked my laptop to my Thunderbolt in my office and then I unhook my laptop to go present at a clients of taking my laptop home to work. Every once in a while if even places all of my folders and PDF files in the far upper left corner of my screen. Needless to say, having to constanly rearrange my desktop is extremly annoying and would love to know what the fix is for this problem. Thank you in advance for any help offered!
Thanks for the tip "baltwo", unfortunately my desktop settings were already set to NONE. I've had one of my IT guys here this moring helping me look through all of this and we're at a wall trying to figure out why it's doing this. This morning when I docked to the Thunderbolt all my folders and PDF files are in the upper lefthand corner stacked on top of each other almost out of view. If I go to settings, displays, and swith to mirroring, all the folders and files go right back to where they're set up on my MacBook desktop, but I lose the ability to utilize the entire screen of the Thunderbolt. Very frustrating to say the least and after searching through and reviewing several forums, Apple is very much aware of this issue and seems to be keeping silent on the issue. Hoepfully they'll launch a fix soon!
THANKS again for the tip, it's much appreciated! -
How long is to long to keep your macbook pro on?
I'm downloading a movie and it's gonna take a while and I am wondering what the maximum time is for keeping your macbook pro on for.
As long as you need it on. I never shut mine down, I keep it active all day, and I just put it to sleep everynight. That allows Apple to make updates to your mac.
