Is it possible to search for strings containing spaces and special characters?

In our RoboHelp project, there are figures with text labels such as Figure 1, Figure 3-2, etc.
When I search for "Figure 3" I get all pages containing "Figure" and "3", even if I surround it in quotes. Similarly, searching for "3-2" treats the '-' character as a space and searches for all pages containing '3' or '2'.
Is there a way to search for strings containing spaces and special characters?

In that case I think the answer is no if you are using the standard search engine. However I believe that Zoom Search does allow this type of searching. Check out this link for further information.

I'm searching for a way to find a specific string in a specific text frame and make it bold. so my thought was to search and then apply a character style from my template doc. I thought this would work, but I went wrong somewhere.

@caseyctg – If you want to apply a character style to a text object in a specific text frame, you could restrict the scope of your script to that specific text frame:
Example with the variable "myTextFrame" you have to define before:
myTextFrame.changeText();
Btw.: you are doing a text search and clearing your GREP find/change preferences at the start of the snippet? Why is that?
You could do a:
app.changeTextPreferences = app.findTextPreferences = NothingEnum.nothing;
or:
app.changeTextPreferences = app.findTextPreferences = null;
set before the search and after the change, if you want to be on the safe side…

View -> Extended search. In 11.1 it would query against plscope dictionary views supported by rdbms. In lower versions it would reduce to querying all_source.

Is it possible to search for multiple folders with the same name and then select them all and change the permissions on just those folders .i.e. Search for the budget folders in all client folders and lock them down to just the project managers. Without having to go to each folder and apply the permissions.

PDF Search: Escape chars / search for words containing dots

Hello,
i'm trying to do a search for ip adresses in a pdf document - eg for "10.100.0.1" - but it seems that adobe reader doesnt cope with the included dots.
Is there a way to search for words containing dots? Maybe some way of escaping the dot?

Reader can find dots just fine. There's probably something going on with your file, like font issues or spaces between the text, or something like that.

Searching for String literals in a ResultSet

Hi! I am currently working in a little project in which one functionallity should be the possibility to search for customers over a special dialog. This dialog consists of a JTextField and a JTable. Now when the user enters e.g. 'a' in the textfield all the customers which include an 'a' at the beginning of their name should be displayed in the JTable. When the user enters a 'b' addtionally all users which fit the condition 'ab' are shown. Currently I requery the DB every time a key is pressed. But this is not very performant over the network. Is there a way to store a buffered ResultSet in RAM and make queries on this ResultSet?

...but there must be a easier way to deal with it!Either you have all the data in the GUI or you don't. If you have it there then you have to get all of it. And then do something with it. If you don't get it all, then you are going to have to do a query each time. There is no other solution.
You could do a partial solution, for example do the first query after they type the first letter and then after that handle the data yourself.
(Keep in mind that this sort of GUI is 'really cool' but generally serves no pratical purpose particularily for large businesses. Day to day work doesn't support such usage.)

Searching for text containing diacritics (accents)

iTunes doesn't find titles when searching for texts containing diacritics (like "âàéêèëîïôöûùü", in french). Even when a song title is copied and pasted in the search field, it is still not found. I get the same problem when I call the search from AppleScript. When searching for only the part before or the part after the diacritic, then iTunes does find something. I think it is a bug. Is there someone that knows what to do?

Too bad the problem is back with the new iTunes 8.0. It is quite annoying since I got a lot of entries with those diacritics...

Possible to Search for a Calendar

Somehow I ended up with Calendars named "Untitled", "Untitled 2" and "Untitled 3". I don't know how these showed up and don't know what events could be associated with them. Don't want to just delete these Calendars without knowing what they have in them.
Is it possible to search for all events within a particular Calendar? Or maybe organize/sort events by Calendar?

Enter the " character in the iCal Search field which is located in the upper right hand corner of the iCal window. When you do that you will be presented with a results pane in the bottom of the iCal window. The results pane will have four columns at the top (Calendar/Date/Type/Title). Click on the "Calendar" column to see the results organized by specific calendars.
Alternately, you can (⌘ + click) on any calendar in the "CALENDARS" source pane to deselect all calendars, then the calendar that you want to display, and enter the " character in the search field. That will display only the entries associated with that particular calendar.
As a side note, the search field has a magnifying glass icon with a small down arrow which can be used to specify what items to search in.

Unique regular expression to check if a string contains letters and numbers

Hi all,
How can I verify if a string contains numbers AND letters using a regular expression only?
I can do that with using 3 different expressions ([0-9],[a-z],[A-Z]) but is there a unique regular expression to do that?

You either have 1 or more digits followed by 1 or more letters or 1 or more letters followed by 1 or more digits. Once that is out of the way, the rest of the string must be all alphanumerics. The ^ and $ make sure the whole string is included in the match.
(I have not tested this at all, just typed it up hopefully I got all the brackets in the right place).
I think you just made my point. TWICE. While the lex class would be much more readable as a ring.... I know all my brackets are in the correct places and don't need to hope.

I am having hard time to copy text. Basically, I need to search for mail in gmail and copy text to be sent as text message or copy as note.
1 In ff and default browser, I can search for mail, but no select option
2 In Nokia messaging there is no option for even search.
When I swipe from left to right, whole scree is moving. Appreciate any help.

For Copy-Pasting from Gmail, I am not aware of the technique of doing the same from a browser. The copy-paste function works well from a text-field to another text-field.
So, I just forward the Gmail message, so that the body of the text appears on a text-filed inside the browser......and then I copy-paste it................without really forwarding the message to anyone

Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.
Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
Restart your router.
Reset the Apple TV (Settings > General > Reset > Reset all settings)
Restore the Apple TV (Settings > General > Reset > Restore)

Hi, you can do a small work.
you can split the char string into substrings at spaces.
if there is space then it will be splitted and then you can check the sy-subrc.
if sy-subrc = 0,
then the char string had some space in it.
