Is it possible to sort by dates in a column?

I have a column of dates and would like to sort either ascending or descending, but Numbers sorts by the first number. Is there any trick to getting it to sort dates?

I would guess that if Numbers is only using the first number to sort then it may not think the information you entered is a valid date.
Here is an example showing that Number does not think my last entry is a valid date:
Column A has no special formatting. In this case when I enter a date Numbers right justifies it when it recognizes the entry as a valid date. In the event Numbers does not recognize the entry as valid it left justifies it. Do you see any entries that are not valid dates?

When I sort by date added in Column View in Finder, how can I make the most recent files appear at the top of the list?(Mavericks)

In 10.8, when I sorted Finder by date added or date created in column view, the most recent files would appear at the top of the list. Currently, this happens as it should in every single view mode EXCEPT column view (which is pretty much the only view I ever use). Currently, I have a folder with over 2000 files in it that date back to 2011, so now I have to scroll for like ten minutes just te get to files that were most recently added. Who in their right mind would want to sort by last modified with the oldest result listed FIRST? Ridiculous. I can't figure this out. Any help?

Thanks for the reply leroydouglas! Unfurtunately this doesn't cause the column to be ordered correctly either. After selecting this option, the files seem to be ordered by label, and the most recently added file is somewhere in the middle of the list. I'd like it to be at the top, and have other files/folders descend in retrochronological order by their add date.
Any other input from the community would be greatly appreciated, even if it's just confirming that this is/is not expected behavior. I'd be super bummed to find out that this IS expected behavior, as it's really counterintuitive and extremely inconvenient.

Sorting TDM Data

I've a datalogging application which stores data in TDM format which contains 8 data fields ie, date, time, data1, data2 ......
Now when I want to recall the data in a seperate vi, is it possible to sort the data recalled according date or time or any data field i give.
Another doubt is that is it possible to work simultaneously on same TDM file using two vi's.
Using LabVIEW 8.0, 8.0.1, 8.2

In LabVIEW, there is not a simple VI to sort the data in a TDM file automatically. But you can do it by yourself. For example, set the datetime as a property of a channel and read all channels' properties before read the data.
If just read data from a TDM file, I think there's no problem for you to read in 2 VIs simultaneously. But obviously, we can't write into a TDM file in 2 VIs simultaneously.

Is it possible to wait for data on a column instead of waiting for data on a table.I knwo there is ODIWaitForData for which I can use the Filter Column and Filter Variable expressions to wait for data.But I do not know what is the value that I amy recevie ,so in a sense I do not know what is the value that I may be expecting.So how else can I wait for the data on a column.Note that I have used even the SQLFilter option in ODIWaitForData..

Thank you for responding to my post Niel. The HD is completely empty like it's not even formatted and no partitions yet. I have the installation DVD that I borrowed from a friend. I tried to insert it into the external CD/DVD drive, restarted the PC while pressing and holding the C button then I see the apple logo after a while it was showing a not allowed sign, the icon that is circle and has slash in the middle of it. I replaced the HD because my old HD crashed after upgrading to OS X Mavericks.

You can implement a trick for that. Each time user clicks the standard selection column we make deselection of the row in a programmatic way.
To implement this add in wdDoBeforeNavigation() event handler of your root component controller the following code:

Each time user clicks some check box you need to set the row as multi-selected or vise versa:

I sort mine 5.1.11, 5.2.11, etc. - that works (adding letters to the numerals does not work as well). Starting with the month will also work better because there are only 12 of them (rather than a repetition of days).

Is it possible to sort data in reading mode?

Hi everyone,
When user view WEBI reports in reading mode, are there any options or API that allow them to sort the information as their desire? User should not switch to design mode for just to sort the data.
Currently, I'm on BI 4.0.

Hi Daro,
You can sort the values in read Mode without having Admin privileges. You just need to select that column and Click on Sort button like Microsoft Word. To see "Sort" option, you have to open the Report toolbar as below;
Open any Document->View->Toolbar->Report
Now Report toolbar is visible and you will get "Sort" option there. Now click on any column you want to sort and after that click on SORT button in Report toolbar.
Try it and let us know if you face any issues.

Is it possible to sort text/iMessages into alphabetical order instead of just by date?? Would be great to have the option to sort by different filters or even to initiate a search of a particular subject/word or persons name.

Why is the file browser unable to sort by date added (Safari, Mail, etc)?

When I use the file browser (e.g. when I browse for a file to attach to an email or browse for a file to upload through a form) and try to sort by date added, it doesn't work.
I can see the column for "date added" and it displays the correct date. I can sort by other properties and it works. But when I sort by "date added" it lists files that were added a while ago under "today" and the files recently added are under "no date" (even though they all have a correct date). The list doesn't seem to change day-to-day (e.g. files under "today" remain the same).
Does anyone know what could be wrong? Am I the only one with this issue?

Performance tip: Keep the Desktop clutter-free (empty, if possible)
Mac OS X's Desktop is the de facto location for downloaded files, and for many users, in-progress works that will either be organized later or deleted altogether. The desktop can also be gluttonous, however, becoming a catch-all for files that linger indefinitely.
Unfortunately - aside from the effect of disarray it creates - keeping dozens or hundreds of files on the Desktop can significantly degrade performance. Not necessarily because the system is sluggish with regard to rendering the icons on the desktop and storing them in memory persistently (which may be true in some cases), but more likely because keeping an excessive number of items on the Desktop can cause the windowserver process to generate reams of logfiles, which obviously draws resources away from other system tasks. Each of your icons on your desktop is stored as a window in the window server, not as an alias. The more you have stored, the more strain it puts on the window server. Check your desktop for unnecessary icons and clear them out.
Keeping as few items as possible on the Desktop can prove a surprisingly effective performance boon. Even creating a single folder on your Desktop and placing all current and future clutter inside, then logging out and back in can provide an immediately noticeable speed boost, particularly for the Finder.
And it is why Apple invented 'Stacks' for Leopard.

Is it possible to sort the Aperture Library by Lens used? And get statistics on the different Lenses used?
I'm using latest Aperture.

I would just add that your Preferences settings have to be set to show the columns you need. Go to Aperture -> Preferences, and select the Metadata tab. in the "List View Columns" field, for whichever set you have chosen with the radio button, choose the set of data from the pulldown list that shows the fields you want. For example, I have the lens model field set in EXIF-Expanded set. I choose that set and those fields will show in the columns in List View.

N80 Gallery - Is it possible to sort?

Can anyone tell me if it is possible, and, if so, how to sort images in the N80 gallery. I have about 300 photos I have downloaded onto the handset, but they are not in the order I would like them. Is there any way to sort them, or an application out there that I can use for this?

Had the same problem. So called up NCL within a week of purchase a few months back. I was told that the gallery can only sort by date.
Am creating a bash script to touch the files so that they can be arranged in the manner I wanted. But I hadn't got the time to work on it. PM me if you're interested, and I'll send you the script once its completed.

My photos not sorted by date in photos

my photos are no longer sorted by date after change to photos when viewed in all photos. Also how do you change the order from oldest to newest down the screen. An option for black background would be nice.

The problems reported here occurred right after updating to iOS according to the users as TD mentioned.
It's a compatibility problem between iPhoto and iOS6 that the only workaround would be to possibly batch change the date of the photos in iPhoto . Therefore we'll have to wait for it to be fixed with either an iPhoto update or an iOS update, which ever Apple feels is the proper item to to be changed.
If they update iPhoto first (which is probably what they'll do) it'll be called an iPhoto problem.

convenience, instead of moving away from it? :PSome people think it's convenient to have all of the possible search options shown to them at once. Other people think it's confusing, and they'd just like to have the simple ones shown to them. From the posts I see here I would guess that there are people from both camps on this forum (although the ones who would find it confusing generally can't even find it). Perhaps Sun surveyed their users before making this change, or perhaps some people had a meeting and discussed the problem in the abstract. Who knows?

Can't sort by date created in Bridge

I have raw files from two photographers that covered the same event. When I combined them in a folder in Bridge and apply view >sort>by date created, the images are only arranged in chronological order within each photographer's photos and not as a whole. How can I get both groups of photos to sort together by date created?

It should work as you expected, that is if both have correct time settings
in their dSLR set.
First try the purge cache for folder option, while pointing Bridge at the
problem folder go to the menu tools/cache/purge cache for folder and let the
cache build again for the files in this folder before you give it a try.

I just upgraded to the latest version of iTunes and it duplicated virtually every track in my music library. I need a quick way to delete the duplicates. Sorting by "Date Added" will not help because they are all listed as added on 12/12/2011.
