Is it possible to use Facetime between Mac and iPad with the same Apple ID?

Hello,
I have a MacBook Pro and an iPad. May MacBook is used by my wife and me at home. I take the Pad with me when I travel. On the MacBook I have and Apple ID registered. It is the same I use with the iPad. Do I need a differnt ID for my wife if we want to use Facetime? Or do I need to create a seperate user-profile for my wife on the MacBook?
Thanks for your feedback in advance.

I use the same apple id for the same thing when i travel between myself and people at home over my iphone and the ipad i leave at home always seems to work of for me
I normally just give it a little test before i leave each time by signing in of both devices and trying ringing myself

  • FaceTime between Mac and iPad with one iCloud account?

I moved my MobileMe account to iCloud and want to set up my Mac so I can call my new iPad with FaceTime. In the iCloud system preferences I have "Mail and Notes" unchecked but the sole email account in Mail preferences is pointed to the iCloud mail server and I am receiving Mail. The account appears in Mail and seems to be functioing normally.  If I check the "Mail and Notes" option in the system preferences a second iCloud Mail account appears in Mail with identical contents to the one that is there with this option unchecked. I'd rather not have this duplicate set of mailboxes in Mail so I'm leaving the option unchecked (is this OK?). I added my AOL address as a second email address to my Apple ID so I can use my AIM account with FaceTime and have set FaceTime to receive calls to my AIM address and I have added a contact with my iCloud email address.
On my iPad, I have set up FaceTime to receive calls to my iCloud email address and added a contact with my AIM address. This set up works when calling my Mac from my iPad but does not work the other way. How do I get it to work in both directions?
    Thanks for any insights.

In partial answer to my own question, it seems that Mail and Notes option in iCloud system prefs on the Mac should be checked. The duplicate account that is then created in Mail (which points to the original account so it's not really a duplicate, as CS1sound  pointed out to me) can be disabled in the Mail program prefs. This eliminates the dual mailbox sets in Mail.
Regarding the FaceTime calling between my Mac and iPad, that seems to have been resolved as well. The FaceTime iCloud account required more characters than the password for the old MobileMe account. This was unknown to me until I tried to view the iCloud account from within FaceTime preferences, when I got a message saying I needed a longer password. When I entered the new password it updated the FaceTime password and also updated my iCloud password (the password associated with my Apple ID). So now everything seems to be working nominally.
For others experiencing problems with FaceTime calling between Mac and iPad I suggest making sure your Apple ID password is at least 8 chars long, has letters (at least one cap) and at least one numeral. (This is the spec my FaceTime error message provided). Then attach an AIM  address to your Apple ID as a "rescue" email address. Apple ID will send an email with a verification link to this address which must be clicked and this account will then be associated with your iCloud account (along with your original iCloud email address). Next, set the iPad up to use the iCloud email for Mail and FaceTime and create a FaceTime contact with (which receives calls to) the AIM address, for calling the Mac. Then set the Mac up to use the iCloud email address for Mail and set FaceTime up with the iCloud email, but with a "receives calls at" address pointing to the AIM account, then create a contact with the iCloud address, for calling the iPad.
Posted this because I saw others have had the same problem. Sorry for the verbosity but this is just a blow by blow recounting of what I did. I hope some of the board gods and moderators will vet this for mistakes. I don't want to mislead any fellow pilgrims, but it worked for me .

  • How can I use FaceTime between 2 I-Pads sharing the same email account

How can I use FaceTime between 2 I-Pads sharing the same email address

    Cstearns-
I only have one iPad, but was able to add myself to the list of Favorites.  When I tried to call, I was not available!
You should also take a look at the Skype App for iPhone.  It works on the iPad, where you can choose 2X to expand the display.  I haven't tried to add myself to Skype, but have been able to have it connected on both my computer and the iPad at the same time.
You might also consider getting a second address from G-Mail, just for use with FaceTime.

  • HT4314 I have a iPad and iPhone with the same Apple ID, but on Game Center I have used the same id for both devices and they are two different profiles and I was wondering how to have one of the accounts on both devices.

    Hi Jamesdwills,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
If you are using the same Apple ID on both devices, the Game Center profile should be the same.
Check out this information from the iPad User Guide.  Try signing out of the Game Center on both devices and then sign back in with the correct Apple ID:

Game Center settings - iPad User Guide
    http://help.apple.com/ipad/7/#/iPad9a13d039
    Game Center settings
Go to Settings > Game Center, where you can:
Sign out (tap your Apple ID)
    Allow invites
    Let nearby players find you
Edit your Game Center profile (tap your nickname)
Get friend recommendations from Contacts or Facebook
Specify which notifications you want for Game Center. Go to Settings > Notifications > Game Center. If Game Center doesn’t appear, turn on Notifications.
Change restrictions for Game Center. Go to Settings > General > Restrictions.

I'm have iPhone's & iPads with AT&T.  I want to change to Verizon. Can I still use my old iPhone and iPads with the new company?

To change the iCloud ID you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, then sign back in with the other ID.  When you delete the account it will prompt you about what to do with the iCloud data.  If you need to migrate it and merge it with the data in the new account choose Keep on My iDevice; then choose Merge to upload the data and merge it with the new account.  If your data is already in the other account and you don't need to migrate it to the other account, choose Delete from My iDevice.

  • Can't message or FaceTime between iPad2 and iPod touch on same apple I'd

Here's my story.   Have an iPad2, works great, love it.  husband loved it too, but big and bulky, he goes with the iPod touch.  Tonight we set his up using the same apple id, because we want it to be simple and we truly want to share everything.  BUT, we want to be able to FaceTime and message one another.  Obviously realized we couldn't when the other was always busy, so I use an addtional e-mail to assign to him.  When it didn't take initally, I think ok, I need to turn off iMessage and FaceTime to get them to reset.  when I go to log back in, our apple id wasnt recognized and I eventually reset our password as a last ditch effort.  That gets me to the next screen, "what e-mail address do I want to use?"  I choose the secondary one, but it acts as if it hasn't been verified, but I've checked my settings information and it has been,  I've actually deleted and verified it twice now. I even tried the main e-mail address.  I've also powered off the touch too.  So what am I doing wrong, because at this point I can't even get messages or FaceTime to work on the touch.  I do not want to remove my log in from my iPad for fear of it locking me out there as well, but I need help! At a minimum I should be able to get our messages from both devices!  Thanks!

I decided to reset the iPod touch to factory new settings and then it worked fine.  I have no idea what glitch I came across, but am glad that I can now FaceTime and message with my husband!

  • Will 2 iPads with the same Apple ID connect using facetime?

I recently bought a second iPad 2 for my business. Naturally I use the same Apple ID on both to sync apps and data. I will be away on holiday in a few weeks and want to lend one iPad to my mother, who is ill, to keep in touch with her using Facetime.
When I try to connect one to the other with Facetime, it calls briefly and then says neither of us are available for Facetime. Is this because Facetime is linked to the same Apple ID with the same email address? Do I need to set up an account for my mother? How then can I share my apps and data?
I've tried all the suggestions on this forum including changing DNS servers and nothing works. I think Apple should set up an FAQ for Facetime. They might just help with supporting very expensive products.
Any advice would be very welcome?
    Thanks,
    Eamon

    Hello there, Flamingo1000.
The following Knowledge Base article offers up some great recommendations for what to do before giving away your iOS device:
What to do before selling or giving away your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5661
If you still have your iOS device
Before you sell or give away your iOS device, make sure that you've removed all of your personal information. Follow these steps to protect your data and get your device to its factory default state for the new owner:
    Back up your device.
Go to Settings > General > Reset, then tap Erase All Content and Settings.
This will completely erase your device and turn off iCloud, iMessage, FaceTime, Game Center, and other services.
If you're using iOS 7 and have Find My iPhone turned on, your Apple ID and password will be required. After you provide your password, the device will be erased and removed from your account so that the next owner can activate it.
Contact your carrier for guidance on transferring service to the new owner.
When the device is turned on for the first time by the new owner, Setup Assistant will guide them through the setup process.
Important: Do not manually delete contacts, calendars, reminders, documents, photo streams, or any other iCloud data while signed in to your iCloud account, or the content will also be deleted from the iCloud servers and all of your iCloud devices.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.

  • How to synchronise the fonts between mac and ipad in the keynote app?

I use Keynote on both Mac and iPad machines. Unfortunately, the font set in iPad is quite different than in Macbook and because of that, every presentation must be re-writen while changing the device. This is a bit annoyent and I cannot find the solution.

Only use fonts on your Mac that you know are available on the iPad.

  • I have two ipads with the same apple id but my 3 year old uses one of them, how do i update hers witht he apps she can use instead of everything that is on min as well?

I have two ipads using the same apple id.  My 3 year old uses one to play learning games.  How do I set them up so my apps arent displayed on her ipad?

When you connect that iPad to iTUnes, go to the summary page and scroll down, there should be a box saying 'automatically update' or something to that effect. De select that.
With automatically update on, what you buy on one goes onto the other. but with that box off you can choose.
On the iPad itself, it's under
    Settings
    iTUnes and App Stores
and then you can choose what you want automatically updated between the two devices.

  • Is it possible to use Adobe Illustrator in multiple computers with the same account?

    Hi guys,
So our company is a small designing tile company,
we wanted to purchase the Adobe Illustrator and was wondering if it was possible to use it in multiple computers with one account, as we have two computers that are frequently use for designing, or do we have to buy two separated Adobes Illustrators for each computer?
    Thanks

From the End User License Agreement (EULA):
2.1.3 Portable or Home Computer Use. Subject to the restrictions set forth in Section 2.1.4, the primary user of the Computer on which the Software is installed under Section 2.1 (“Primary User”) may install a second copy of the Software for his or her exclusive use on either a portable Computer or a Computer located at his or her home, provided that the Software on the portable or home Computer is not used at the same time as the Software on the primary Computer.
So, while it CAN be installed on more than one computer, they may not both be in use at the same time.

  • Can i use lightroom on my PC, Mac and ipad with the photography CC subscription?

I have read that desktop programs may be used on 2 devices but does the mobile version count as one of those or can I use it on all 3 with the photography CC subscription?

The mobile versions do not count against your number of devices.  I am currently running LR on a MAC, an iPhone and an iPad With no problems.
Note that you can also install CC on more than two computers, but you can only have two machines signed in to CC at the same time.  To run on a 3rd machine, you would have to sign off on one of the other two machines.
    hope this helps.

  • Will iBooks sync between iPhone and iPad with non-iCloud Apple ID?

I have two Apple IDs. One is an email address that I've used for all my iTunes purchases. The other is a .Mac account that I've had for I think ten years. The .Mac account has, of course, been converted to an iCloud account. I got an iPad recently and have bought some books from the iBooks store using my non-iCloud Apple ID. I have books on both my iPad and iPhone and have Sync Bookmarks and Sync Collections enabled on both devices. Both devices are connected to my iCloud account. But the two devices don't sync. Is this because my purchases were made with my non-iCloud account? Is there any way to get them to sync?

I don't think you are missing anything...
On the iOS devices tap Settings > iCloud. Switch Photo Stream off then back on then reset the devices.
Hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home button down at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
See if your photos sync now between the PC, iPad, and iPhone.

  • Can sync  to mac and windows with the same device

I just bought my partner an iphone, and he wants to know if once activated through itunes, will the phone sync to any computer regardless of the operating system as long as itunes is installed. We have Macs at home but he has windows in the office.

iphonecuty...I connect & sync my iPhone with an iMac at home and a Windows PC at work. However, the work PC only syncs my calendar and contacts; all of the iTunes content is synched only from the iMac. Works fine this way.

  • How do I face time from my iphone to my mac with the same apple id?

how do i facetime from my iphone 4s with my mac at home with the same apple id

On your Mac computer you would need Osx 10.6.6.  You would identify your Mac with an email address which would be used as the Mac's calling Id.  For the iphone you would simply use its telephone number as the calling Id.  Actually you can use a separate, individual e-mail also, but it certainly makes sense to use the already assigned tel #.
