Is it possible to use portal service written in Java?

Hello,
I've written a certain portal service in Java and deployed it to the portal and it is working OK.
My question is if it is possible for .NET developers to use it and it's method in their projects as I am using in my Java and DynPro projects.
Roy

Hi Roy,
What you asked requires interoperability between two very different technology stacks - Java and .NET (which is basically what the .NET PDK does for you).
What you need for this is a mechanism to "translate" between these two stacks. This can be done with various 3rd party tools (that you can buy from companies who specialize in this kind of tools).
BUT
The quick, easy and cheap way is to use the industry-standard of interoperability, which is, as Tsachi told you - Web-Services.

  • Is it possible to use Enterprise Service in PI 7.0?

    Hi....
    I just wonder that is possible to use enterprise service in PI 7.0.
    In PI 7.0, there is no ESR.
    Thank you.

    Hi,
          I suppose you can publish you PI interfaces as a web services on the UDDI repository of SAP WAS or any other third party UDDI system ;
          Als  it is possible to expose FM as a web services on SAP UDDI repository which then can be invoked / consume by the PI .
         Yes but complete features of ESR can not be achieved here.

  • Accessing custom Portal service from a java application

    We have a custom portal service that connects to BW using xmla. How do you access this portal service from a java application. Not from web dynpro, jsp or servlet but from the java code.
    Can we use the INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY to get access to the portal service.
    Thank You
    D.K

    Now I tried the following:
    I've added the prtapi.jar and the service's jar to the additional-lib folder and added the appropriate entries to library.txt and reference.txt.
    Now I can obtain now the PortalRuntime, but this is not initialized.
    Has anybody a solution for this problem? Help would be high appreciated!

  • Is it possible to use Magnetic Strip Card in Java Card

    Can Any body knows that is it possible to use magnetic strip card instead of IC MicroProssesor card in Java Card technology ?
    is it possible to write java card applet on magnetic strip card ?
    Please Help me in this topic
    Thanx in advance

    If you mean having a combo of mag stripe and cpu/memory on a card, which support javacard tech, then yes.
    If you mean having a mag stripe only card which supports javacard, then no, it does not support javacard technology. Correct me if I am wrong but a mag stripe only holds a couple of bytes of datd doesn't it? Regardless no way enough for jcre, applets etc.

  • How to make use of Portal service in the web dynpro application

    hi
    I have some portal service and how to use that in the web dynpro application.
    and also what is the main diff between Portal Component and web dynpro application.
    do we required portal to run web dynpro application.
    thanks
    mmukesh

    Hi,
    >> I have some portal service and how to use that in the web dynpro application.
    Yes. U can use Portal service in webdynpro. Check the link given by subathra.
    >> and also what is the main diff between Portal Component and web dynpro application
    Portal Components are components designed to run in portal server while webdynpro application can run in J2EE WebAS.
    >> do we required portal to run web dynpro application.
    No for general cases. Just WebAS is sufficient to run webdynpro appl. But if u use portal service in ur webdynpro appl, then make sure both (portal service and webdynpro appl) run on same J2EE engine. That is mandatory.

  • DB access in Web Dynpro Portal Service / or EJB with WebService ?

    Hi,
    I will develop a web dynpro application which will run in the EP and use an DB. How are the best practices in this scenario ? Should I use a Web Dynpro Model (EJB or WebService) for the persistence operations or should I use Portal Services ?
    Regards
    Flo

    Thanks,
    ok some words more... , I want to find out the differences between VC, PDK and Web Dynpro. Most of the parts of the application will be written in Web Dynpro. It´s possible to access portal services in Web Dynpro. But not with a Web Dynpro Model, so will going to use EJB/Webservice.
    But here I have one more question... I am wondering why EJB a n d Webservice in combination !?!? Can´t I only write a Webservice o r a EJB to achieve the DB connectivity ?
    Thanks

  • How to call a  portal service from a servlet

    Hello all.
    I have a functioning portal service that I would like to call from a servlet.
    When I try to do so, I get a ClassCastException when I do this (on line two):
    IPortalRuntimeResources runtimeResources = PortalRuntime.getRuntimeResources();
    IDocumentPersistence docPer = (IDocumentPersistence) runtimeResources.getService(IDocumentPersistence.KEY);
    However if I do the following I can get a generic IService and use reflection to invoke the method (in the IDocumentPersistence interface) that I want to invoke:
    IPortalRuntimeResources runtimeResources = PortalRuntime.getRuntimeResources();
    com.sapportals.portal.prt.service.IService aService = (com.sapportals.portal.prt.service.IService) runtimeResources.getService(IDocumentPersistence.KEY);
    There must be a better way to use portal services (hopefully like scenario one above) in servlets. In web dynpro you can use portal services and cast them to the correct type. What am I missing?

    Hi Kim,
    how did you integrate the references to your Portal Service Interface into your web application?
    You should do this using the references in your application-j2ee-engine.xml, did you do this? It might be a problem with the classloader otherwise.
    The way you are calling portal services does work normally, however it is not the recommended way as it is documented in the SAP documentation.
    Please check the SAP documentation on how to access a portal service from a j2ee app:

  • Using Portal in complex apps.

    We are developing a fairly complex database application and we cannot get an answer on the possiblity of using Portal as a user interface, such as forms which we have used. Is Portal robust enough for us to use instead of forms. Can anyone give us a deployment of a like application.
    null

    I've tried both, adMob and Medialytics. Both Frameworks are very easily integrated with adMob being a little bit more elegant. It literally took me 5 Minutes to integrate ads in my app - from DL of the framework thru reading the docs until first run with ads!
    Medialytics took a little longer to integrate...about 20 minutes I'd say but that was the analytics framework, not for ads. As far as I know medialytics is still not ready to serve ads.
    Two days ago on October 5th I submitted my first app with ads. Still waiting for it to get ready for sale...

  • What is the lifecycle of Portal Service

    Hi,
    I am thinking in building a Protal Service as a bridge to Stateful Session EBJ.
    so i have two question:
    1. what is the lifecycle of Portal Service?
       When the PRT destroy the Portal service
    2. what is the relation between Portal components and Portal Service and User.
    For example i have to two user
    that used the same Portal Component whitch used Portal Service to creat Stateful Session EJB.
    are two users useing the same ejb client?

    Hi Raja,
    a service is started with the portal startup, if the "startup" property is set to true, or, if not, a service is started on request. It can be restarted manually via the portal interface (System Administration -- System Configuration -- Service Configuration). So a service is destroyed when the portal stops or if the service is restarted manually (then the old instance gets destroyed and a new one gets created).
    A service behaves like a singleton, so you access the same instance, independent of users and components they come from; if you want to differentiate, you have to implement the differentiation by yourself.
    Hope it helps

  • Use Enterprise Services without service registry?

    Hello experts,
    this question is following me since days: is it possible to use enterprise services from an erp-system without a service registry?
    From my understanding the service registry at runtime determines the endpoint where the service is implemented. But when there is just a single erp-system is it then possible to use this services without any additional systems?
    Thanks for any answer.
    Regards,
    Norbert

    Yes you can.
    The service registry is just a "phone book" of services. as much as phone numbers exist well without the phone book services exist without a registry.
    actually, if you really ever have only one source system for enterprise (or other) services you don't need the service registry. even if you have 3 source systems and you know how to find an overview of the services in each of those 3 systems and if you don't use a 'global' data model you do not really need the service registry.
    but this is just my 2 cents. 'publishing' seems to be a common source of joy these days

  • Accessing portal service from abstract portal component

    Hi
    I have created a portal service where it contains getdata() and putdata(String) methods.
    I have created a abstract portal component and trying to access the portal service from this component.
    In portalapp.xml file of the portal component i have created the sharing reference and i have given the service name.
    When i run the component it says service not found.
    Please let me know if i have missed some things

    Hi Prakash
    Sorry for the latereply.
    find below the code for the interface

    import com.sapportals.portal.prt.service.IService;
    public interface IGlobalContext extends IService
        public static final String KEY = "IGlobalContext.GlobalContext";
        public void putData(String strUserID,String strSessionID);
        public String getData();
    portalapp.xml file of the portal service.

              uid.putData(userid,sessionid);
              response.write(" Response from Service " + uid.getData());
             }catch (Exception e)
                  response.write(e.toString());

  • Calling Portal Service using result as Java Bean Model impossible?

    Hello folks,
    we try to achieve to call a portal service (working) which gives as a result a list of object of type com.foo.Report. We want to make use of this class as a model class, so we have the class as a model node in the context. The class itself is part of the service DC.
    Unfortunately at run time it gives us a NoClassDefFound Exception of com.foo.Report.
    As the com.foo.Report is part of the same DC as the service, it is no option to add the PAR public part to the used DCs of the WD DC because then there is this type conflict when we call the service (service look up). Or am I wrong and this is the way to do it? I mean I struggled quite a while to get the service look up right and needed to remove all the PAR/lib used DCs from the used DCs of the WD Project, when I got it working this Model error came up. I also tried to put the Model class in a separate DC but that caused the same error.
    how is it possible to call a Portal service from WD and using it's return vale as a Model class
    our system iis 7.0.17
