Is it safe to delete the cache file folder from library

is it safe to delete the cache file folder from library ?

As I understand it Robo doesn't really 'do' third-party
source control. We use SourceGear Vault, but really only as a
repository for the files. We can't really work concurrently because
Robo needs exclusive access to the top level project files. But it
kind of works for us, because we're on opposite sides of the globe.
I see what you're saying on the 'local' versions of (say) the
cpd files conflicting. If anyone else has an informed view, I'm all
ears. We've set it up this way ourselves - I don't know of anyone
doing the same. If someone tells me this is a bad idea, I'm happy
to think again.
Cheers!

  • I deleted a specific file folder from my Seagate backup drive, via Time Machine. Instead of only deleting that file, it deleted ALL my files for that date.

    1. Why? I was quite obviously selecting one file folder ONLY.
    2. Is there any way to retrieve the lost items?
    3. How do I avoid this happening in the future?

Never had any issues while deleting specific files/folders from a time machine backup.
However, regarding the original post, what do you mean by "file folder"? Did you select a FILE for deletion, or a FOLDER? These two terms tend to be quite different, you know.
If you selected a FOLDER, then ALL FILES inside the folder have been deleted. If you selected a single FILE, then only that file should have been deleted. "Delete all backups of..." is a completely different story.

  • TS1368 I had to delete the Itunes files entirely from my computer. Now that I want to download Itunes again, I can not find a site that it let me to do so.

    Hello,
I had to delete Itunes from my Windows Xp, now that I am looking for a site to download it again, I can not find any. I went to Apple, I got as far as "download" but when I klicked on it, nothing happened. What should I do?
    Thank you for your help.

  • Can I delete the Mobile Apps Folder from my Mac?

I would like to separate my two iPad 2 units from my desktop Mac. Each time I open iTunes it tells me how many updates to my apps are available, usually over 100. I have tons of apps stored on this system. I would rather use my iPad 2's separately and update/install apps on those individual units.
Currently, I don't connect either iPad to the computer. I did notice they were wireless syncing. I think I disabled that now. I used the option to prevent the devices from syncing automatically as well as clicking on each device and turning wireless syncing off. When I quit iTunes and then relaunch it, I'm not seeing them auto sync so I think that part may be done.
My mobile applications folder is 117.6GB in size. I would like to eventually delete that if possible. I don't particularly need the space, but I find my Mac runs much more smoothly when I get rid of excess files I don't use. Plus it saves files on my Time Machine drive that don't need to be backed up anyway. I use icloud to backup my data and iTunes Match to put my music in the cloud. I will likely leave my music on this system and then just download what music I want on each iPad from the cloud.
Are there any things I should consider while slowly separating these devices from auto syncing? It seems pointless for me to keep downloading and updating mobile apps on my desktop computer when I can't use them on it. I currently make all my purchases of apps from each individual device. Both devices are feeding from the same iTunes account/login as well. I'm thinking the only potential issue is if an app is released and then pulled from the app store. If it's pulled then the only way to recover it would be if I stored a local copy on my desktop. I don't own any tethering apps. I think I bought one app once that was a duckhunt clone that got pulled. I never play it anymore anyway. Now that I think of it, Apple's Texas Hold-Em is another but I don't use it.
Is there anything that would prevent me from doing this? Will all updates to iOS have the option of doing it on that individual unit? Will I ever need to connect them to my desktop Mac again?
    Thanks!

  • Safely deleting the mail files - getting triplicate (and more) attachments

    Hello,
I've been weeding out duplicate files using Tidy Up and so far so good.  Though I've yet to get the hang of it, because it appears to be missing some files.
At any rate, I've noticed (and I suppose it's been observed on here) that Mail (which I've installed so that it apparently downloads all my gmail stuff), has put several files that are now quadruplicate or quintiplicate files (particularly bothersome are the attachments that I seem to keep downloading).
Just wanted to check if it were "safe" to delete the entire mail folder in Library from time to time, to get rid of all this stuff?
    Thank you.

If the people are using Windows, make attachments Window friendly.
    From Mail help.
Tips for sending files to Windows users
Make sure Edit > Attachments > Always Send Windows-Friendly Attachments is selected. Or for a specific message, click the Attach icon in the New Message window and select the Send Windows-Friendly Attachments checkbox.
Use filename extensions, such as .doc for a Microsoft Word document, in the names of files you send to Windows recipients. This way, the files can be read by Windows apps.
If you send a file (for example, “MyFile”) to someone who uses a Windows computer, the recipient might see two files: “MyFile” and “._MyFile.” The recipient can ignore the file named “._MyFile.”

  • I want to delete temporary internet files. Notice I did not say clear the cache. That does not work! How can I delete the temp files? Why did you take that feature away? VERY frustrating that you would do that!

I search for how to delete temp int files and keep coming up with the "clear cache" crap. That is not what I searched for. Clear cache does NOT delete the temp files. Why would you take that feature away??

The Windows temporary internet files folder isn't used directly by Firefox. Firefox uses its own cache folder and you can see its current usage on the about:cache page via the location bar.
If anything does show up in the temporary internet files folder then it is likely caused by using MS plugins like the Windows Media Player or Silverlight. You need to clear that folder via IE or the control panel (internet settings).

  • Is it safe to delete ALL caches and/or receipts?

how about receipts located in "user/library/receipts" and/or in "macintosh hd/library/receipts"?
    how about unders "user/library/preferences"?
    thanks for the help.

Regarding the preference files at Home > Library > Preferences, these are the preference files for your applications and the Finder, etc. so if deleted for a particular application, this will require resetting your preferred preference settings for the application. If there is a preference file available for an application you have deleted, the application's preference file can also be deleted but these preference files take up very little hard drive space and cause no adverse effects if not deleted when the associated application is deleted.
Are you trying to free up hard drive space? If so, check this link.

    Hi,
I developed a web application using HTML5-Offline Application Cache mechanism. Inspite of deleting the cache as mentioned in the above steps, Firefox still maintains a copy of the page in it's cache. Also, a serious bug is, even though we delete all temp files used by Firefox, and open the previously cached page, it displays it correctly, but upon refreshing/reloading it again shows the previous version of the page maintained in the cache.

We have had this issue many, many times before including on the latest 3.6 rev. It appears that when the applicationCache has an update triggered by a new manifest file, the browser may still use only its local network cache to check for updates to the files in the manifest, instead of forcing an HTTP request and revalidating both the browser cache and the applicationCache versions of the cached file (seems there is more than one). I have to assume this is a browser bug, as one should not have to frig with server Cache-Control headers and such to get this to work as expected (and even then it still doesn't sometimes).
The only thing that seems to fix the problem is setting network.http.use-cache to false (default is true) in about:config . This helps my case because we only ever run offline (applicationCache driven) apps in the affected browser (our managed mobile apps platform), but it will otherwise slow down your browser experience considerably.

  • I have to keep deleting the cache. Facebook and hotmail issues

Ok, i guess 2 months ago, nobody answered my question. I get very frustrated.
Here we go again........I have to keep deleting my cache in order to use facebook and I noticed with hotmail as well. so please don't tell me to clear my cache, I already did that. I use igoogle for my start page. I noticed everything on google doesn't load. So I clear my cache. The it happens again, it happens several times during the day. I also uninstalled and reinstalled.....nothing is working. Next step is to reformat my computer. So does anyone know what the issue is?

If you need to delete the cache that often then it appears that you have either an extension or external (cleanup) software causing problems with the cache. If shouldn't be necessary to clear the cache under normal conditions.
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

  • Ok to Delete the Contents of the Render Files Folder?

    Hello Hello
I remember from using various PC Video Editing programs that each program established for itself a 'Render Folder', or sometimes called an 'Auxiliary Folder'.
This folder contained the contents of the previously rendered files as they related to a particular DVD burned project. Once rendered, the files were there to sort of help reduce the process time, (render time), required to burn another DVD disc.
In FCE HD, there is also a folder called 'Render Files', and also another folder called 'Audio Render Files'. Naturally the contents of these folders could easily amount to 2 gigs or more depending upon the project size.
Well - (aside from increasing Re-Rendering Time in regard to a new DVD burn), is it safe to delete the contents of the 'Render Folder' in an effort to free up hard drive space?
    Thanx
    Mike

    Hi Mike,
You may have a couple of things mixed up.
In FCE the Render Files and Audio Render Files folders hold the render files produced by FCE. FCE uses those render files when you play the timeline, print to video or export a movie. You can delete them at any time because you can always re-render in FCE. However, you do need to be careful at the point when you export a movie from FCE (for example, to use in iDVD)
If you export to a QT Self-Contained movie, all the media for the movie you export (including rendered video & audio) is incorporated into the resulting QT movie file. Assuming a successful export, you no longer need the FCE render files.
However, if you export to a QT Reference movie, you need to keep the FCE render files available when you import your project into iDVD and build your DVD structure. When iDVD encodes & multiplexes to burn your DVD, it will use the QT Reference movie, which in turn uses the FCE render files (and your original media).
In iDVD, after you burn your DVD, you have the option of keeping the 'rendered assets'; these are iDVD render files and are inside your iDVD project file; they are not the FCE render files.
If you really want to save time burning subsequent DVDs, in iDVD you should Save As Disk Image (instead of Burn DVD), which gives you a completely finished, fully encoded & formatted DVD disk image. You can then use the Finder, Disk Utility or Toast to burn additional DVDs for only the burn time, you won't have to go through iDVD's menus & re-rendering just to burn an additional DVD.

  • Is it safe to delete driver zip files after driver udpate?

I have recently updated some drivers on my computer and I would like to know if it is safe to delete these zip files once the drivers have actually been installed. There are also some that are just files in the same update folder which are not compressed.

  • How to clear the cache files in folder Temporary Internet Files

When one user opens files such as pdf. or doc. from Portal,  the same file will be downloaded into the Temporary Internet Files folder. if another user copied the files out of the Temporary Internet Files folder from this computer and save to someplace else, then we face one security problem.
So my question is: How to clear the cache files in folder Temporary Internet Files??  Can we delete the files automatically when close the files in Portal??
or is there some ways to make encrypty???
    Thanks very much!

    Hello,
this is a basical security problem which should be resolved by the OS standard security setup . No other user should have access to the temporary file folders in the personal directory. The user account must be secure. Normaly your security problem should not be a problem if basic security exists on the clients.
You can resolve this problem if every user has his own account on the client
The users having no administration permissions on the clients
The folder for the temporary internet files is placed in the personal profile folder of the user account.
On default no other user has access rights to you personal folder, this means the client OS is setup correctly.
You can setup the IE that no temporary files are saved (but it reduces performance)
You can enable IE to delete automaticly the temporary files if IE is closed.
    Hope it helps.
    Regards
    Alex

Every time I sign in, it signs me out immediately. I've tried deleting the opm file and it's unable to do so because "Adobe CC is currently running this file." I've also changed my LAN settings and downloaded something else that was supposed to help me out but nothing seems to fix the problem.

I think you'll find that the official Adobe advice here is misguided.  First, deleting bits of the program and program data is, as you've noted, perilous and often impossible.  Shame on Adobe for doing such a poor job of coding that such steps are needed.
The solution I recommend is as follows:
Restart your Windows machine and boot in "Safe Mode" with networking using the F8 key just as Windows starts.
Go to the Control Panel and select Programs. Find and Uninstall "Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop".
Reinstall it by downloading it from the website  https://creative.adobe.com/products/creative-cloud
    Restart your machine.
Only in "Safe Mode" are you likely to be able to accomplish these tasks reliably.
