Is Safari 5.0.1 safe to download?

I got the Software Update alert a few weeks ago, but when I saw some of the horror stories on this discussion board, I was afraid to download it and do the update. Are the problems people are having few and far between, or are the problems with 5.0.1 fairly universal?
I guess a better question to ask is, is there anyone out there who really likes 5.0.1? Or are you wishing you could go back to the previous version?
(I'm currently on Safari 4.0.5 running OS 10.5.8)
Thanks. I'm self-employed and use this computer for my biz, so I'm always hesitant to rock the boat when everything is working fairly smoothly.

I laughed when I saw your reply. Yes, you have gauged my expertise level.

Your MacBook Air is an Intel-based system. To download the current version (11.2.202.228),  go to http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ and download it from there.
If there is still a Flash issue, you can try the Google Chrome browser, which has the current Flash built into it, to see if it works any differently with the videos. It's available from https://www.google.com/chrome

  • Malware - Safari users - disable Open"safe" files after downloading

For those not aware there's some malware floating around which goes by the name of MacDefender and other variants.
It's a scam that may show a page suggesting 'virus' infection on the user's machine and/or download an installer file.
Visiting malicious sites or apparently just browsing some Google Images searches will automatically download a zipped file.  If the Safari Preference to Open "safe" files after downloading is checked it will unzip and run the installer for the malware.
While installing requires user intervention to click through the installation, the most recent variant will apparently install for a user without needing an administrator password.
Once installed the malware apparently opens unsavoury websites randomly and prompts for credit card details to remove them.
This is unpleasant scareware to steal your credit card info.
    Beware.

I can not download any files using Safari ? when I choose to download application file the URL include the file name and stop responding. Any help??

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up a guest account” (without the quotes) in the search box.
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem(s)?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault in Mac OS X 10.7 or later, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The Guest login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under Mac OS X 10.7 or later, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • Is it safe to download google chrome

Hi is it safe to download google chrome?

It's safe to download, however it all depends upon what you consider "safe"
Google isn't know for respecting a users privacy, and have been fined and busted by many governments over their tactics.
They do install a root level updater that updates all their software which many people later have problems with and is certainly questionable as being unnecessary intrusive.
I would say their software is safe, just not your privacy with using anything they have. They give away free stuff to use it to data mine it's users.
If your looking for the most user friendly/choice browser that won't spy on you, then Firefox is certainly the best.
You can customize it, add themes, personas, and tons of add-ons to do just about anything. Some add-ons are available no where else but on Firefox.
You can see I've modified my Firefox to my tastes above, when the default is the below portion.
Also Firefox can be greatly speeded up with a hack, search for "make Firefox 10x faster" makes entire web pages load in a flash. Makes Safari look like sloppy seconds.

It is safe to download if your phone is not jailbroken. Before you download it, however, take some precautions:
    Reboot your computer
    Disable your antivirus and firewall
Connect the phone cable to a USB port directly on the computer, not a hub
Before updating right click on the name of the phone in iTunes and choose "Backup"
When you are given the choice choose "Download only", not "Download and Update"
After the download completes successfully click the Update button to install it.
Most of these steps are just being overly cautious, as most people ignore them and have no problems. But occasionally the extra steps save grief.

  • Is it safe to download adobe flash drive update from the internet (came via a notice from Adobe)

Is it safe to download an update from Adobe Flash Drive via the internet? A message from Adobe has popped up on a number of videos I'm trying to access.

If you are sure it is from Adobe, yes.
If you have the least little bit of doubt then go to the Adobe site yourself and download from their site and then install it.

  • Is it safe to download java yet?

I have a macbook pro mid 2009, and my question is, is it safe to download java yet? i was planning on playing a game but it said that I needed the java plug-in, so I don't know if I should install it or not. Thanks

No, there seems to be a vulnerability reported by programmer, but Oracle says it's a feature and they are going back and forth if it's a exploitable or not which the researcher says it is and Oracle saying it's not and if they fix it it would break Java.
So since the vulnerability is known, it's exploitable it's only a matter of if and when, then Oracle will be screwed as well as those who install Java.
Oracle is working on Java 8, which should fix the problem pernamently.

  • Is it safe to download adobe and jave to ipad?

is it safe to download adobe and jave to ipad2

If by Adobe you mean Flash, you can't. Flash isn't compatible with iOS5 (any iOS honestly)
    I'm  not sure about Java.
The closest you can do is look for a browser in the app store that works with flash. Puffin, Skyfire are two that are mentioned

  • Is it safe to download from macloops.co

Is it safe to download from macloops.com?

Macloops seems to be a legitimate site and rates as OK in places such as Google SiteAdvisor. It's impossible to be absolutely certain that you won't get malware or a corrupted file, but it seems unlikely.
