Is the file embedded.mobileprovision a necessary file in OS X?

I was uninstalling an application from my applications folder (the app is called AB2CSV.app - a third party app for exporting contacts) when I discovered an additional file (listed as a document) inside the package contents folder (not inside the folder "Contents", but next to "Contents" inside the package).
Can I delete this document?  Or should I move it to another location in OS X?
From my quick google search to explain what this file is, it seems that this is a common file that developers add to the install package to enable certain mobile functionalities - thus, I tentatively conclude that this file is NOT an essential or integral component within OS X.
I am not a programmer, so OS X file structure is not something I'm fluent in.

  • How to Open PDF Files Embedded in an Excel File

This is a solution for Mac users who need to open .PDF files that are embedded inside an Excel file created in Office for Windows.
I hope this solution works for other file format combinations. I am doing some experimentation to find out and will repost if I have new learnings.
    Problem:
    - Colleague sends me a .XLS which has an embedded .PDF on one sheet
    - Office: Mac 2011 will not open the .PDF because of lack of OLE support
    Solution:
    - Copy the .XLS file to a new file
    - Rename the file from <filename.xls> to <filename.zip>
    - Open the .ZIP with Archive Utility
    - Browse into the resulting "decompressed" folder to filename > xl > embeddings
    - Find the file of interest, named something like <oleObject2.bin>
    - Rename to <oleObject.pdf>
    VOILA!
The PDF is recovered in its fully glory.

  • Xcode misplaces embedded.mobileprovision file on distribution build

    Hi,
I have two apps (free and paid versions), Snatch and SnatchTest which are two targets of one Xcode project (the project name is Snatch.xcode). I'm about to submit an update to the App Store so I did a Distribution build. For Snatch it worked fine, the bundle contains the embedded.mobileprovision file, but for SnatchTest when I did the build (after cleaning all the targets, quitting and restarting Xcode, even restarting my computer) the SnatchTest bundle shows up without an embedded.mobileprovision file. However in the build directory another app bundle appears with the name of Snatch, containing the embedded.mobileprovision file (and nothing else).
By the way the same thing happened to me a couple of times when I submitted the original 1.0 versions, but when I quit Xcode and restarted the problem went away. Now it just won't go away. So I'm thinking what to do. It seems that the embedded.mobileprovision file was simply misplaced by Xcode, so I figure if I can't get it to work I'll simply move it to the SnatchTest bundle, submit that and explain in the submission notes (under the "Demo account" field which I presume the Apple people read) what happened and hope for the best.
However, in the meantime I wanted to know if by any chance anyone has had this same problem, what they did to fix it and what happened in the end.
    Thanks!

Took me forever to figure out what was going on. Boo. I reported it. Apple confirmed as a bug. So just use your work around for now.
When I do a release, I delete all the targets I don't want. Close the project. Re-open the project. Build my distribution build of that target. Then revert back to an older version of the project file. But dragging it to the top of the list may be an easier fix if that works every time.

I can't open pages files from USB and iCloud due to : "The necessary file index.xml is missing". Original file is written on iMac (2014) and saved to an USB stick and then transferred till macBook Pro (2009, Yosemite) for editing. Then I shared the files by iCloud but I am not able to open them on iMac again. Niether can I use the USB stick to transfer the edited files back. I'm running Pages '09 4,1 (923) on the macBook and Pges 5.5.2 (2120) on the iMac.
    Håkan

Pages 5.5.2 is extremely incompatible with even other Macs let alone the vast majority of PC and MsWord users out there, so not a good idea to leap into the fire with both eyes shut.
After having done that to the first Pages 5 files, Apple has repeatedly done it to even the most minor point updates. Apple can't even anticipate its own erratic changes let alone what everyone else needs doing.

I have used the "Share photos as embedded images" feature frequently, but today when I went to use it, it wasn't there, only the option to send email with files attached. How do I get back the ability to send emails with photos embedded. I like adding the frames and backgrounds and I think it's easier for recipients to look at the photos. Thanks for any suggestions of things to try.

I had a similar problem in that my wife's iphone 5 could not send pics with imessage.  Had to set the settings to default to SMS or whatever.  After laboring many hours on the web I coincidentally was on the phone with the internet people to question my internet speed.  They changed the router channel, which is something that I am capable of doing myself.  After that, the pics go over imessage.  My own Iphone didn't have the problem.  We are both latest IOS 7.0.6.

  • Can a search engine read the contents of a Library file embedded in a page?

Can a search engine read the contents of a Library file
embedded in a page? Or would SSI be the way to go. I'm creating a
large library of text-based information and links, and I want to
have much of it modular so I can add a link and all the many pages
on my site updates to reflect the change. A big concern is that
when a search engine visits my site, can it read the content
embedded in the library item, or is SSI a better method to help the
    search engine read my content?
    Thanks

Yes, search engines can read Dreamweaver library items. The
library only exists on your own hard drive. Once you add the
library item to your pages it's in there as regular HTML.
If you have more than 20 pages on your site, they say SSI is
better, because when you update you only update the SSI. If you
stick with library items each page has to be uploaded every time
    the library is updated.

I just bought a MBA and I need to move my photos and itunes to an external hard drive (from my old MacBook Pro) because they won't fit on the Air.  I got the photos moved fine and I followed an online tutorial to move the necessary files for itunes, but it didn't work.  The files copied fine, but when I tell iTunes on the Air to look at the external drive for the library, it doesn't find anything.  What I copied was the entire iTunes Media folder.  So, how do I move the necessary iTunes files from my old Pro to a external drive so I can access them from my new Air?  Whew!

iTunes- How to move the library to an EHD
After you move the library you need to open iTunes by first depressing the OPTION key then launching iTunes. You will be given a choice of which library to use. This can then be made a permanent change, if you wish, in the Advanced section of iTunes preferences.

  • When attempting to install add-ons, Firefox generates a message saying it is unable to install add-on because Firefox cannot modify the necessary file. To what file is this referring, and how do I fix this problem?

When I download an add-on such as Colorful Tabs and start the installation process, I receive a message that Firefox cannot install the add-on because it cannot modify the necessary file. To what file is this referring?

That is usually caused by Firefox not unpacking the extension.
You can try to set the Boolean pref <b>extensions.alwaysUnpack</b> to <i>true</i> on the <b>about:config</b> page.
To open the <i>about:config</i> page, type <b>about:config</b> in the location (address) bar and press the "<i>Enter</i>" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.<br />
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.<br />
*Use the Filter bar at to top of the about:config page to locate a preference more easily.
*Preferences that have been modified show as bold (user set).
*Preferences can be reset to the default via the right-click context menu if they are user set
*Preferences can be changed via the right-click context menu: Modify (String or Integer) or Toggle (Boolean)

  • Indesign CC packaging process fails with the error message "Unable to copy necessary file(s)"

When I try to package a file with a lot of links, the Indesign CC packaging process fails with the error message "Unable to copy necessary file(s)". I am able to make a PDF of the same file, but when packaking the process fails every time. The app does not crash, just gives an error message. What gives?
(I'm using a MacBook Pro Retina Display with 16 GB RAM, running OS 10.9 and all CC 9.1 updated with the latest patches).

@John – that's really strange… the thing with the file names depending on the file type. That could eleminate Mavericks a bit from the equation and put the weight more on InDesign CC.
    Provided:
    1. You give it a go with InDesign CS6 v8.0.2 and tests are showing it will work fine in this regard.
    2. The same composite characters are present in both file types, the ai files and the PhotoShop ones. On a Mac OSX characters for files and folders can consist of "composite" components:
ü for example is a two component one: the u and the two dots above the u. On a machine with MS Windows, this is not the case…
InDesign CC was programmed from scratch for a 64 bit architecture. So it could be a severe bug in InDesign CC.
Maybe other readers in this forum could test for these cases…

Can you have a DIAdem file embedded in a web app and then when you click the link to the DIAdem file it invokes DIAdem?

    Hello JCN,
I will keep in touch with the current Applications Engineer who will be assisting you with this issue and update the forum with the status of the problem. I personally think that your best option would be to create a link that opens DIAdem and then runs a script to load the data from a predetermined file (Rather than a link to the file itself).

  • Add-on could not be installed because Firefox cannot modify the necessary file.

I see that for the issue:
<Add-on> could not be installed because Firefox cannot modify the necessary file.
    The usual fixes include:
    - ensuring that xpinstall.enabled is set to true
    - ensuring that extensions.alwaysUnpack is set to true
What might be the non-usual fixes as I have set both to true and I still get the message above.
I have tried installing the <add-on> after I have set the values to true, then again after restarting my browser, then again after restarting my computer and finally tried creating a new profile and repeated each of the steps after setting the 2 preferences to true.

Can you at least update to the latest Firefox 10.0.10 ESR version?

We are trying to close caption our telecasts. We get the captioning files done out of house, pull them back into Premiere, and then embed them. The TV station requires .mxf files with the file embedded as a 708 stream, to play on their Grass Valley K2 video servers. We have tried multiple scenarios and cannot get the captions to display.
Whenever I export, it becomes a 608 stream, and will not play on their servers.

    Hello there,
I'm sorry to hear you are having a problem. Thank you for taking the time to post here.
    Here are some questions:
    1. What version of PPRO are you using? MAC or WIN?
    2. Is the caption data you are embedding a 708 caption stream?
    3. When you re-import the MXF with captioning embedded back into PPRO, does it show 708 closed captions in PPRO?
PPRO will embed 708 caption streams to MXF -- I just did this, re-imported the embedded MXF to PPRO, and I see the captions in the MXF.
If you could share one of your files with me, I could take a look.
    Take care and thanks again,
    CM

  • Extract embedded png and jpeg files from InDesign, or do I even need to for 4/C printing?

I am creating a catalog, both as a pdf for nxtBooks (online) and they want to use the same files for printing. I don't know if it's digital or, if that would even matter. I was given and old document to pull some information and images from. Some of those images appear to be embedded into their old ID document. This is not something I have ever done, but I'm old school. To make it even better, these images are old screen shots, and no one kept the originals. They appear to be scaled down in their document, so doesn't that mean there is a larger file hiding somewhere?
On the other hand, is this necessary? I know it will be OK for online viewing, but what will happen when I create a press quality pdf? Will this cause problems for the printer?
And while I'm at it, are printers OK with linking jpegs rather than psd or tiff files? I know the color would be more accurate if I converted, but this client doesn't particularly care about exact color matching.
    Thank You!

But the image does not connect to anything in the links palette. It is showing up as if it were a jpeg, png or tiff, but it sure isn't acting like it. So strange.
Pasted images don't show in the links panel. If you export the page as a PDF/X-4 and look at the image via Output Preview>Object Inspector you'll get its effective resolution, pixel dimension, and color info. Recent versions of InDesign are capable of maintaining full resolution and color properties of pasted images.
    See this thread:
Copy | Paste vs. Place image: are they equivalent?
If you set the scale of a pasted image to 100% and export as PDF/X-4 with no compression or downsampling, you might be able to extract the original image from Acrobat.
