Is the IPad right for me

hi guys,
i am trying to figure out if the ipad is right for me. i very much want one, but it seems to me that there are several reasons that it won't work for me.here is my situation: i travel a lot for work, so it would be in my best interest to consolidate how much i have to pack with me when i travel. right now i have to bring my 15' mbp with me wherever i go. i must have internet access for my job. since i spend a lot of time in hotel rooms, i have transferred most of my movie collection to a portable external hard drive that i bring with me....its about 600gb of data.
so here are my questions:
1) is there a way the ipad can access the movies on the external hard drive?
2) most hotels have wireless, but there are some i stay at that only have wired internet in the rooms
3) i have 64 gb itouch and an amazon kindle already, so is there any reason to get a ipad considering that i have major problems with the fact that the 3G plans aren't unlimited, and so if i only got the wireless version, i would basically have the itouch with a book reader (which i already have).
i very much want the ipad, i just am not sure if there are solutions to those problems above. i really don't want to get into jailbreaking the thing because i don't want to void the warranty, so i know that takes away some possibilities right there. any advice anyone can offer would be appreciated. thanks!!

thanks for the response julian, and to answer your question, of course i don't NEED the 600gb of movies, haha, but WANTING is something different, right ..... to be honest, no, i don't need all that, but sometimes i am on the road for 7-10 days, and i don't watch tv really, so its nice to be able to have anything i need in the area of movies. as for the airport express, i just found that solution as well, and i already have an airport express at home, so then is it possible just to create a wireless network if need be in the hotel room? i havent done that before.

Apps are only tied to one account... You can set up two iTunes accounts on your computer, however, and let his iPad sync to his account. If he has never backed up his apps to a computer, however, he will have to redownload all the apps. Afterwards, he can backup to iCloud instead of your computer.

If she is receiving your messages - then you must have somehow setup the iPad to use your iPhone number or your email address on her new iPad. How you did that is beyond me unless you set up her new Mini for her and used your Apple ID on it.
On her iPad got to - Settings>Messages>Send and Receive at>You can be reached by iMessages at>uncheck your phone number or email address of that is what is being used for the contact number.

  • Is the iPad good for taking notes or should I stick to a laptop?

Im thinking about getting an iPad for school to take notes and type documents with Pages. Is the iPad good for this or should I use a laptop instead?
    Thanks

It depends on your needs and preferences. I use my iPad regularly to take notes, but I wouldn't want to try and type an extensive paper on one without an external keyboard (my touch-typing skills just don't fit the spacing on the iPad's on-screen keyboard). I'd suggest you visit an Apple Store or dealer that carries the iPad and try out typing on it yourself and see how it works for you.

  • Do all the apps on the iPad work for the iPad mini?

Do all the apps on the iPad work for the iPad mini?

    Hi
Have you progressed your evidence based knowledge on this issue?
    I recently posted elsewhere:
"I am very interested in this issue as I want an ipad for 7 months travel in Southern Africa and the particular app I want is Tracks4 Africa map app On App store it says "This app is designed for both iphone and ipad" and later on "Requires iOS4.3 or later." and "optimised for iphone 5"
In emails with the developers their junior tech assistant says it is not compatible with an ipad mini with wi-fi.  My attempts to differentiate whether its compatible with an ipad mini running both wi-fi and mobile has fallen on deaf ears.
Does the ipad mini offer 4.3?
Could you understand why an app wouldn't be compatible with a wi-fi only app but would be ok on a wi-fi and mobile unit?"
    Thanks

  • I install the iOS 7 and the ipad asks for a code, I never put it a code

I install the new ios7, the installation when witohout a problem, but in the gettin started part, the ipad asks for a code, I never put one, so I cannot use the ipad because of that.
I can not restore it, because it aks me to go to adjust and shut down the find my ipad part, I can not get past the code.

Here it is how I solve the issue. I downloaded the iOS 6.1.3 of my device and installed via ITunes. Then a message of error appear and the ipad when directly to restore mode. Then I Just restore it and That Was it.
So I can tell That the Main issue is That iOS 7 does not have the restore mode option.
You know the one where you press the home button, then the sleep button and release the home button.

I am on Holliday and started an iOS upgrade to my iPAD 2, yesterday.  The security lock have never been enabled.  After the upgrade via WiFi in the hotel, the iPAD asks for a 4 digit kode to access my iPAD!   ?????? APPLE, what programming subroutine is forgotten during functional testing prior to release of the latest iOS upgrade???? - Now from a borrowed hotel guest computer I post my ”HELP NEEDED”.  Please advice if there is a way to skip a security kode I never enabled (nor even tried out and diabled) – WITHOUT spending time to find a Apple store helpdesk  that restore via iTunes, and delete all my local data.

During the setup of iOS 7 which you went through after installation it asked if you wished to create a passcode. It is possible to skip setting up a passcode at this step but you must have created one.
If you can't remember the passcode and you have enabled "find my iPad" you can use http://www.icloud.com/ to remote erase your iPad, then you can set it up again, and restore it from an iCloud backup.

By sharing the same Amazon account on each device. You may also have to use the same Apple ID and password.

  • Is the iPad safe for Internet banking?

Is the ipad secure for Internet banking?

Nothing in the world is 100 safe from everything.   Having said that,  most major banks have specific apps to accees their services .  Others, you access over the net the same as if you were using a pc.   I have been 100 dependant on the pad for banking connections and have had zeor problems.
It is at least as safe as any other computer banking approach.

I would certainly not recommend it for college.  You can't add the apps which serious courses are likely to require.  The same could be true for HS, depending on what kind of courses you are taking.  If all your teachers are using MS Word, then you should use that too for submitting assignments, and that requires a real computer.

I need to know when it will be available o if there's another way for me to buy iWork for iPad.

  • I got the iPad 2 for Christmas 32gb and for some reason it did not come with the green messages app. Is there any way to get this on my iPad or am I out of luck?

Ipad2 came without messages app. Please help me in figuring out why! :)

What version of iOS have you get (Settings > General > About > Version) ? Messages was introduced with iOS 5, so if you aren't on that then you can update to it and you should get the Messages app.
Connect the iPad to your computer's iTnnes and copy any purchases off the iPad via File > Transfer Purchases (you may also want to copy photos off the iPad as well) and then force a backup of the iPad by right-clicking the iPad 'Device' on the left-hand side of iTunes and selecting 'Backup'. You may also want to copy off the iPad any important documents, notes, files etc e.g. via the file sharing section at the bottom of the device's apps tab when connected to iTunes, via wifi, email, dropbox etc - they should be included in the backup, but it's best to have a copy of them outside of the backup just in case.
You can then start the update by selecting the iPad on the left-hand side of iTunes, and on the Summary tab on the right-hand side clicking the Check For Updates button.

  • IPad right for me?

    Hi everyone,
I am looking for some advice on whether an iPad would be right for me.
I run the IT and support side of a small company that requires me to:
    1. Connect remotely to Windows PCs & Servers using Remote Desktop or Teamviewer.
    2. Communicate with remote devices using UDP and also to ping them (the UDP part can be achieved connecting to a Windows system).
    3. Usual small business stuff like proposals, presentations, e-mailing, etc.
    4. MS document support.
I'm looking for a portable device that has WiFi and 3G and that is portable enough to keep with me at most times. I recently purchased an iPod Touch and am completely blown away by almost every aspect of the product. It already allows me to a lot of the above, except that it lacks 3G support.
As a result, I've been considering the iPad. From a usability and stability point of view, I have no doubt it will perform well. BUT, it is a little pricey and it has virtually the same footprint as a Netbook, i.e. not really that easy to carry around all the time.
The iPhone is another option, but I'd have to buy one outright online as I already have an existing contract on a BlackBerry (if only I'd considered Apple).
Do any of you have any recommendations and advice?
    Thanks,
    Checco

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
You can do any of the functions the iPod will do with the iPad...infact there is an entire knowledge base article on iPad in the enterprise. Quick search should turn up all the info you could want in that area. There have also been a number of threads recently from people doing what you want to do and how they have worked around some of the issues.
